      Vif is an adjective synonym to Vivant, which means alive/living, it has another meaning which is rapid/prompt/reactive - "full of life per its fast movement".
      à vif is more an expression adejctive that means that there is nothing protecting the skin, it directly touches the skin or even the layer under the skin.
      So à vif is also used in the context where there is an open wound on the skin quite deep - likely to leave a scar because it crossed the first layers of skin.
      Brûler vif => it means to be burned alive - just like Jeanne d'Arc or witches back in the day.
      Brûler à vif => it doesn't mean anything, this is not a common french sentence.
      à vif is also used with the word fire in the context to cook. à feu vif means cooking with hot/high fire/heat (feu=fire).
      you can cook à feu vif, à feu moyen, or à feu doux - basically high/medium/low heat.
      Here "à vif" is the name of the movie with Bradley Cooper, basically they used the à vif from the cooking expression à feu vif - but it could also be interpreted with the other contexts of the expression depending on the themes explored in the movie.
      I can understand why he said I don't know ahhaa basically à vif means a lot and nothing - if i was asked away like this i would also say I don't know or something
      It's not because he's not fluent in french ahaha

    I don‘t know the actor that was enraged about his German counterpart, but just so you know: his German counterpart is one of our most famous actors and one of very few who is internationally known.
    He played Stilgar in the Dune miniseries from 2000. And he played in Das Boot. His name is Uwe Ochsenknecht and that picture is very unflattering.
    Oh and about Robbie singing in Germany. I think the story is hilarious, but, just for context: he sang the one part of our anthem, we eliminated, because we did not want to put ourselfes above others again. So, that part is seen as racist and very Nazi. That‘s why the Germans were displeased.

      @nebelland8355 Місяць тому +5

      That is a myth. The first verse of the Deutschlandlied is not forbidden. It’s just not the national anthem anymore.
      The Deutschlandlied itself is not „Nazi“ or something like that. It dates back to the time of the 19th hundreds students movement that wanted one unified Germany with more democracy instead of little kingdoms and princedoms with authoritarian rulers. That context puts „Germany, Germany above everything…“ in a complete different light. Germany as one nation didn’t exist to that point of time….it was what they wanted.
      But back to our laws: you can find the complete song easily on the Internet. Just google Heino Deutschlandlied. He published it in the 70s. I remember the discussion about it, but it wasn’t forbidden 🤷‍♀️

    • @nebelland8355
      @nebelland8355 Місяць тому +1

      @sachadee.6104 It’s not illegal. It was forbidden to sing it in public in the American zone until the foundation of the federal republic of Germany in 1949.
      Technically the whole song (3 verses) was the national anthem of Germany until 1990, but only the third song should be played during official events.
      Somehow the myth came up, that the first verse is forbidden. I even learned that in school end of the 70s. Don’t know why.
      The official statement that only the third verse is the national anthem only dates back to 1991.

    FYI "à vif" can be translated as "raw". Brûler à vif would be "to burn until the flesh is raw"

    • @MonkidiMaude6
      @MonkidiMaude6 Місяць тому +1

      Vif is an adjective synonym to Vivant, which means alive/living, it has another meaning which is rapid/prompt/reactive - "full of life per its fast movement".
      à vif is more an expression adejctive that means that there is nothing protecting the skin, it directly touches the skin or even the layer under the skin.
      à vif is also used in the context where there is an open wound on the skin quite deep - likely to leave a scar because it crossed the first layers of skin.
