Every left tackle should thank LT for their salaries because he single handedly made them the most important position on the oline
Rick Scorsese amen
Agree. Listening to Joe Thiesman commentate on that game must be surreal for Joe. Good chance without that hit Joe makes it to Hall of Fame.
Factual.
Yeah... except LT is probably keeping Joe Jacoby out of Canton which is a shame.
What about left handed qbs though 😂 RT is their blind side.

People keep talking about how the NFL athletes today are all bigger, faster, and stronger. I have yet to see a player bigger, faster, and stronger than LT in his prime.

Galactic123 I agree, in fact I would have rated him above jerry rice
Devan McClaine What are you talking about? LT better player than Young and he'll tell you that

Galactic123 on average the players today are bigger, faster and stronger. Compare line sizes, linebackers ext. doesn't mean there weren't some monsters back then

What's crazy is...he was only mic'd up for one game, and it was a preseason game against the Jets. And out of that, came three of the most iconic, mic'd up moments in NFL Films history.

I come back to this clip just hear him tell the stories.
Three sacks w/ 2 forced fumbles, even with a torn pec. That's all you need to know about LT.
All that off a Percocet 😂😂😂
LT changed the very nature of the game.

I was fortunate enough to watch LT play in his prime. He was definitely the MJ of football. He was just better than everyone else. LT used speed, hands, leverage, and most importantly instincts. Every high paid Left Tackle should thank LT because before LT they weren’t a premium position. He was a natural.
LT tackled quarterbacks while defenders were still blocking him! LOL

Lawrence Taylor is why I started following the NFL. which as a 6 year old kid in the North of England wasn't easy. LT and Warren Moon my 2 childhood favourite players. 36 years later still following the Giants and Titans.
Lawrence Taylor represents everything awesome about football
Joel Embiid Amen
God_Laughs _At_Atheists nothing wrong with drug abuse even jesus had his vices
Yeah FOOTBALL
Von Miller's playoff run this past season was the closest thing I've seen to the way L.T played, and he's still not even close. The comparison to J.J Watt isn't fair to either player since Watt plays defensive end and Taylor was an outside linebacker. He'd probably have more sacks now in the pass happy NFL. What gets lost about his greatness was the fact that he often played severely injured (torn hamstring, severe ankle sprains, etc) and was still dominant. With all due respect to Reggie White, Ray Lewis, and Mean Joe Greene, Taylor is by far the greatest defensive player ever to grace the sport of pro football.
Yea but today he would be going against ppl who are bigger strong and more fundamentally sound I think jj watt is better
+edwin asas have you looked at LT? Bigger and stronger?
GTRandy the average person he would be going against would be like 6'4 or 6'5 weighing 300 pounds he would be smaller, and weaker
LT was an outside linebacker, not a defensive end. He wouldn't be "going against" anybody directly. He'd be playing the field and causing destruction the way all dominant linebackers do. LT was 6'3" and 240. Yes, at that time he was abnormally big and fast and strong. But don't be a simpleton please... do your homework. Von Miller was this past season's Superbowl MVP and Von is 6'3" and 250. Bigger? No. Stronger? No... look at the film... LT man-handled offensive lineman like rag-dolls. Think for a moment... we're only talking 20 years, not 100's! Humans haven't evolved that much in that time. LT was also a speed demon at that position... he'd run around all the supposed 300 lb. players you think would handle him. You're uncommonly ignorant for someone commenting on this subject. Your logic is lacking, your analysis is pitiful... please don't disgrace the rest of us with your insignificant comments any further.
Russ Morey To your point (which is why I didn't reply to the comments they made), in his final season against the Great Wall of Dallas, all of whom were 300 lbs and up, LT literally shovel Kevin Googan, the left guard, backwards into Aikman recording on of 2 sacks he would have on the day. Taylor revolutionized the outside linebacker position and for those that said all he did was pass rush, look at the 1983 Thanksgiving game against the Lions and his iconic interception and return for a touchdown. I'm one of those who feel that the greats would be great in any era. Of course we can speculate about things (Ruth not facing Black and Latino players, not his fault of course, but a fair point is a good example) but LT would be just as dominant in today's NFL.
How bad ass is that line from LT after that sack “Son... y’all gotta do better than this.” Damn cold blooded
GREATEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER!!!! Jaworski still has nightmares about L.T.
Dammn straight if Taylor played in this era vs Brady he would be crying like a punk!!!!
Dwight Love you mean Brady would be crying right?
Big Blue yes
K
Reggie is very very close
When you listen to not only his head coach but other head coaches, hall of fame head coaches. They say the same thing. He changed the way the game was played. No one had ever witnessed such athleticism at the linebacker position. Not just that he had great football instincts. He is the last defensive player and the only linebacker to win the N.F.L's regular season M.V.P award. There have been some great players since his time. Michael Strahan even said that he was more proud of breaking L.T's sack record than breaking the regular season sack record held by Mark Gastineau.
Daniel Lockhart #
And at the time Taylor played, the NFL was a rushing league. I can't imagine how many sacks LT would have had they passed more during his prime!
GREATSEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF ALL TIME. Everybody who says I'm wrong is either an idiot or never saw LT's pure greatness

+Kellen Gonda that's a dub LT is arguably the greatest ever
+Kellen Gonda you don't know football
+Kellen Gonda you really don't know football do you
Then you haven't heard of a man called Jerry Rice....
i never saw Jim Brown play except for old films but i was in Giant stadium for ALL of LT's career and i saw enough of Jerry Rice to be very familiar w/his skill set and impact. My dad played for Syracuse and watched Jim Brown's whole career. He says LT's the best football player he's ever seen w/Brown a close second. Lt's easily the best football player I've ever seen as well. I have high regard for Rice and believe he's easily in the top 10 but i think he benefitted greatly from having Joe Montana as his QB for most of his career. I think w/a lesser QB his career numbers would be a lot more modest (but still great). Montana had the best timing of any QB I've ever seen. The way he seemed to hit Rice and John Taylor in perfect stride every time was uncanny. I think that added greatly to Rice's staggering TD and yards after catch stats. If he has to slow down or come back for a lot of those catches they become 10 yard gains instead of 90 yard TDs. LT, on the other hand, was gonna be a one man wrecking crew regardless of who he played for. His accomplishments were his alone and relied on no one else to make them. He was routinely double and triple teamed and still made the play. His combo of speed, strength and relentless ferocity has never been approached. His ability to shed the blocker and close on the QB in what seemed like a nanosecond was ungodly. This is why he caused so many fumbles. QB's didn't even have time to tuck the ball and brace for the hit let alone try to avoid the sack. He was like human dynamite: he'd charge the pocket and bodies and footballs would just fly all over the place. He'd toss away 300 lb lineman like they were cheerleaders. I've never seen anyone like him and, considering its been 23 years since he retired, i doubt i ever will.
TheJMSESQ I AM GOING TO BE GREATER THAN LT, HE IS MY INSPIRATION
That was very well said and most importantly - completely accurate! I very much enjoyed reading your comments!
I saw Brown play and of course your dad was on the money. Like LT, Jim Brown could been a great at least 2 other positions. Not many can say that.

Brees manning and brady are pre snap manipulators like no one they had back in the 90's. They get that ball out way too fast for LT to try and injure them.
OG Cryin Face Meme You can still add Big Ben and I'm a Steelers fan.

Best Linebacker I ever saw in my life
greeneyeirvin best defensive player ever
I come back here from time to time just to get the chills. What a dope video
For everyone who mentions JJ Watt, Khalil Mack and Von Miller just look at this guys credentials. 10x pro bowler, 10 time 1st team all pro, 3 time defensive player of the year and NFL MVP. When those guys accomplish that then you can bring them up in the same sentence. And for all of you that don’t think he could play in today’s game go look at some more of his highlight videos. All of his hits are clean. He’s not a John Lynch who headhunted with every tackle. He wasn’t just a pass rusher either. He was great against the run. Watch his run stopping and goal line defense videos. Running backs didn’t jump over the line on the goal line against LT. He would hammer them. I don’t care how big offensive linemen are now. He was TRIPLE TEAMED on a regular basis and still wreaked havoc. GOAT
You so right bro
Man, I think LT does today what he did back in the day. I can think of a linebacker with the same speed and power who could do it all like he could.
You related to John? He has the best compilation of LT videos on the whole internet.
JJ watt needs a ring an MVP and about 40 sacks to be in this convo
Chris Smith,he was 8 time first team and 2 time second team all pro in his first 10 years
I'm a Patriots fan and I loathe the Giants, but this guy is by far my favorite player of all time even ahead of Brady. IMO the greatest football player ever.
Freshmasta 85, indeed
Bellichick was also his coach
I have to say.......Andre Tippett had 2 years in New England where he lived up to the 56 on his Patriot jersey.
@@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 Andre Tippett was no joke. LT ushered in the era of the pass rushing OLB. Tippett, Doleman, Jackson, Bennett, Greene and Thomas all followed suit. Now I cant even name a pass rushing OLB today other than Von Miller.
Doleman was a defensive end.only ricky jackson and andre tippett can be mentioned in a breath with lt.they are not even close.all the others had parts of lts game but not the all around game.another important thing about lt,he almost never missed a tackle.alot of these guys trying for forced fumbles miss tackles.dt missed a sack on the last play of the game in his 7 sack game because he went for a ff.taylor would have made sure of the tackle then try for the strip
"Son, you got to do better than this!" - Hell T 🤣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As a 50 PLUS-year Cowboy's fan, I'll say LT is the greatest LB I ever saw play.
When you change the way a game is played you should be the greatest. He literally made the tackle position of the most important positions of all time. He made 3-4 outside linebacker one the most seek out player for a draft if you have a 3-4 defense. He changed the game. He's the greatest of all time. Forget greatest defensive player of all time, for someone to change the game and the way you coach, draft and play, you are the greatest ever
LT turned around one of the worst franchises at that point. The Giants stunk from 64-81 w/ zero playoff appearances. Greatest defensive player I've seen. He changed the way defense is played - after him a lot of teams drafted players like Pat Swilling, Andre Tippet, etc., and used them the same way the Giants used LT.
ehh I'd argue the team took a turn when bill belichick was there
Has anyone ever noticed no matter what has Taylor has done that no other player has ever talked bad about him publicly? That to me says it all. He's possibly the most flawed "Hall of famer" ever. Now that shows just how great his football career was. All the talk about how player's character off the field don't even apply to him(and it shouldn't) . That's what I called greatness
very true. Its like his greatness was too great...that everyone was willing to give him a pass on his mistakes
LT was like a pouncing lion. He could not be denied.
That 16 year old denied him tho
SINGELHANDEDLY made Left Tackles the highest paid offensive linemen in the NFL

Just wow. Listening to someone as hard to please as Coach Parcells talk about LT gives you goosebumps.

I am a 49ers fan and I watched (and loved/worshipped) Montana, Rice and Young, but in terms of the essence of football and the greatest exponent of it, it's LT for me. There will never be another.
@@Crisisbiker I'm a Ny'er. So yes he's the best defensive player ever. But Jerry Rice is the best offensive player ever. That guy was a trained conditioned super athlete. Always in shape. LT barely practiced. He slept during film sessions. He didn't really comply to the structure of a called play. He rushed in Man to man or drop back coverage. 😂 And he was using hard drugs at the time. LT was the reason I became a football fan. He's the only defensive player I've seen taken over games like an offensive player. LT is also one of those athletes like Jordan, Larry Bird, Griffey, Mantle, Barry Sanders and Walter Payton, when they take over a game it turned sports into a beautiful artful performance.

In 1985 LT had a down year, John Madden said he was great but not dominant. LT went to rehab during the offseason In 1986 Taylor had one of the most successful seasons by a defensive player in the history of the NFL. He recorded a league-leading 20.5 sacks and became one of just two defensive players to win the NFL Most Valuable Player award and the only defensive player to be the unanimous selection for MVP.[45][46][47] He also was named Defensive Player of the Year for the third time. The Giants finished the season 14-2 and outscored San Francisco and Washington by a combined score of 66-3 in the NFC playoffs.[48] He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated alone the week leading up to Super Bowl XXI with a warning from the magazine to the Denver Broncos regarding Taylor.[49] The Giants overcame a slow start in Super Bowl XXI to defeat Denver 39-20.[48]Taylor made a key touchdown preventing tackle on a goal line play in the first half, stopping Broncos quarterback John Elway as he sprinted out on a rollout.
With the Super Bowl win, Taylor capped off an unprecedented start to his career. After six years, he had been named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award (1981), NFL Defensive Player of the Year a record three times (1981, 1982, 1986), First-team All-Pro six times,[26] become the first defensive player in NFL history unanimously voted the league's MVP (1986), and led his team to a championship (1986).
Thanksgiving of 1982 LT single-handedly beat the lions. ua-cam.com/video/ba3akiNi1sA/v-deo.html "The pain game" - New York Giants Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor playing with torn shoulder ligaments and a detached pectoral muscle against the New Orleans Saints had three of the Giants' five sacks. He forced two fumbles and batted down a pass. Almost as an afterthought, he had seven tackles. And whether he lined up on the right or left side, he had the Saints' offense wondering: Where is he? Played with an injury that would prevent some people from combing their hair. Just as he did last season with a pulled hamstring muscle that would have put some people on crutches. "LT is the GOAT. He caused sacks to become an official stat. He revolutionized the OLB position and in turn revolutionized the left tackle position. And he was a damn great player. He murdered QBs on a regular basis. No one was better than LT. NO ONE." John Madden - "Lawrence Taylor, defensively, has had as big an impact as any player I've ever seen. He changed the way defense is played, the way pass-rushing is played, the way linebackers play and the way offenses block linebackers." Bill Belichick - "LT played his best clean, LT is in a class of his own." Taylor is considered one of the best players to ever play in the NFL, and has been ranked as the top defensive player in league history by news outlets, media members, former players and coaches.[1][2][3] He has also been described as one of the most "feared" and "intimidating" players in NFL history.[1][78] Taylor's explosive speed and power is credited with changing the position of outside linebacker from a "read and react" type of position to a more attacking, aggressive position.[79]
Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs developed the two tight endoffense and the position of h-back to prevent Taylor from blitzing into the backfield unhindered.[45][80] "We had to try in some way have a special game plan just for Lawrence Taylor. Now you didn't do that very often in this league but I think he's one person that we learned the lesson the hard way. We lost ball games."[45][77] His skills changed the way offensive coaches blocked linebackers. In the late '70s and early '80s, a blitzing linebacker was picked up by a running back. However, these players were no match for Taylor.[81] The tactic employed by San Francisco 49ers head coach Bill Walshin the 1982 playoffs, using an offensive guard to block Taylor, was copied around the league. However, this left a hole in pass protection that a blitzing middle linebacker could exploit. Later, Walsh and other coaches began using offensive tackles to block Taylor. Later it became common for offensive linemen to pick up blitzing linebackers. In addition to the changes in offensive schemes Taylor influenced, he also introduced new defensive techniques to the game such as chopping the ball out of the quarterback's hands rather than tackling him.[82] amp.si.com/nfl/2017/07/17/giants-lawrence-taylor-mmqb-all-time-draft-first-pick So there are many of the reasons why I think LT is the best ever! When you talk about defensive "Goat" it's almost always LT, When you talk about offensive "Goat" there's a handful of names.
5 hours of research what a waste of time although it was fun learning a lot of new facts lol.
He was 8 times first team all pro 2 times 2nd team.only reason he was only 2nd team in 1987 was because he pulled his hamstring on one of the greatest plays i ever saw him make.tackling randall cunningham from behind and forcing a fumble
People talk about TB12 like he not a product of a great coach. LT MADE Parcells and Belichick!! He is the Greatest Player in NFL History!!!!
This is how great LT was: He won Defensive Player of the Year, as a Rookie
Then, he decided to win it again, the next year.
I’m glad I was able to watch LTs entire career. It was a pleasure. Last defensive player to win the MVP. Will always be my favorite football player.
LT. Last of the throwbacks. Like Jack Youngblood, who broke his leg in a playoff game for the LA Rams. He taped it up, went back in and they won. Then he went on to not only play in the rest of the playoffs, he also won a Super Bowl AND played in the pro bowl right after that. Yeah, LT is one of those legends.
Lawrence Taylor is hands down the best player to play in the NFL. Never seen someone play so well, but be clean while doing it.
Oh yes Lawrence Taylor; as a Cowboy "fanatic" I had

the game, his speed and knowledge where frightening. When an offensive line has to game plan an alter their scheme you quickly free up another player to threaten your QB.
His only drawback is that he
didn't play for the Cowboys.
🤣
I’m a hardcore cowboys fan and he is by far my 2nd favorite player ever
He was listed at 6' 3" 237 lbs with a 4.55 40 yard time after The Combine
On every Game Day, he was 6' 6" 290 lbs with a 4.3 40 yard time
Lol just realized that’s Tony Dungy at the beginning
This brings tears to my eyes 😭 This guy was the definition of a true defensive Warrior! Greatness forever
I can’t even imagine how valuable was Taylor that 86 season that they have chosen the linebacker to be MVP, just better than everyone else
1:40 this is my favorite Lawrence Taylor story
If you look up the word "dominate", LT's picture and a description of his career would be under it. At 2:35 you LT destroy an OG (offensive guard) and sack the QB with one hand.
I feel blessed as a New York Giants fan, to have watched LT play for 13 years. Some of those early years, I was mesmerized by him despite a crappy VHF television.
frankiecrocker amen brother you said it well
Those lovely, beautiful almost all white uniforms. Love those Giants late 80s ones. So many dark and black and red uniforms these days. White, a bit of blue, a bit of red....awesome!
The best football player regardless of position ever to play
Lawrence Taylor, the defensive G.O.A.T. at any position on the defensive side of the ball...period.
Bill loved LT like a son 💙
Should've been #1, and if you disagree with me, LT was the most feared player of all time, he would end players' careers in a few seconds, no one else dominated the league like he did
true
Did u watch KTO's video on him?
No one else? Ever heard of Jerry Rice?
GREAT TO HEAR HE TUNA TALK ABOUT LAWRENCE AND EVEN GREATER TO WATCH TAYLOR LOVE THE GAME !!!!
That Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions where he was responsible or set up all the points was one of many amazing performances
LT was a cold piece of work. That man was awesome.
I’m a Jets fan but have to admit that Sir Lawrence Taylor is by far, the greatest NFL player of all time.
I don’t care what anyone says but lawrence Taylor is the best linebacker and I’ve never seen any linebacker like this
Gave me chills watching this
Just imagine being lined up against the dude yikes 😅
That Bill Parcells story of LT against the Cardinals is weirdly heart-warming.
The GREATEST IMO but I'm bias I'm a Giants fans lol
Lol me too
Same
i ain't a giants fan but he should be no.1
im a cowboys fan and agree. best ever
im cowboy fan to
There's LT then everyone else. Tomlinson doesn't deserve those initials, he sat out an AFC title game with a "sore knee" while Rivers was running around out there one one leg
LaDainien Tomlinson holds the NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a season. You can say whatever you want about his personality, but the simple fact is that he is one of the greatest RBs to ever hold a football.
TL2354 Only 1 Late! 56
Butter Johnson he sat on the sidelines of an AFC title game with his visor on! Then he has the balls to say Ezekiel Elliot quit last year? Well if anyone knows about that it’s him
Dont forget he was at his best with lorenzo neal as his fullback leading the way. When Neal left his numbers fell off. Same as eddie George and Corey Dillon.
@@kemosabeusmc Corey Dillon did everything himself in Cincy and New England.
Imagine a defense with LT on one side and Jack Ham on the other, with Ray Lewis and Lambert in the middle
Fat Guy Fitness can’t say I want to image that
Defensive GOAT, if you’re old enough to have watched him play, you remember it was like Darth Vader was on the field. No defender has ever tilted the field like he did, unbelievable player.
Lawrence is a beast he is explosive he can read the plays quick and powerful
