This tech was crazy when it was discovered. Had Ultimate not come out 2 years later, this would have definitely become meta. ESAM made the switch, hell I was beginning to practice Bidou.

I'm trying to learn this. My brain is burning and it's frustrating. Undoing years of muscle memory and trying to remember what button to hit now is so hard. My right thumb used to move so much around the controller, now it's supposed to sit on an analog while my shield finger attacks and jumps? :l
I switched the controls around. So hard to remember on the spot where everything it. My thumb just moves down to the other buttons without me noticing lol. Gonna be learning this until I'm comfortable with it before trying any techniques

Nintendo releases Smash Deluxe Edition for the NX, which uses a controller with 27 buttons. This game includes all smash characters across all titles. The 27 button 'elite' controller allows pro players to realize their full potential. Tourneys are now TAS melee Foxes, Brawl Meta Knights, and frame perfect Bidou Bayonetta's. The tech skill is so insane that nobody ever gets hit. Matches always time out and our now decided by who can survive the bombs long enough. The winner is now determined by finger endurance where the first person to tire out wins. Top level players are hand fed by assistant players for days waiting for match results. EVO is now a 100 man bracket but is a year long event regardless.

Not sure how many will see or need this, but here's why Bidou is entirely irrelevant in Ultimate:
1. Ultimate's buffering mechanics eliminate the ability to hit a trigger for Specials while doing another move without activating said Special immediately afterwards.
In simpler terms, you can't activate Bidou without using a Special Move first, removing the seamless activation process that Sm4sh (and Brawl?) had.
2. Perfect Pivoting was completely removed from Ultimate, which is a massive blow to Bidou's usefulness right out of the gate. This also means no Crouching Perfect Pivot, Instant Smash/Tilt Perfect Pivot, Sliding Spotdodge, or Quick Step.
3. Ultimate officially added the ability to dash instantly out of a Crouch, Crawl, or Running state. Ultimate doesn't force you to wait for a character to slow down after the stick returns to neutral. All of this makes Bidou pointless for dashing out of these character states.
4. Instant Dash Attacks were properly implemented in Ultimate with the use of the C-Stick, so long as it's mapped to Tilt Attack. Once again, Bidou becomes useless for

Not that I can imagine, however you can do a reverse perfect pivot immediately out of foxtrot which is pretty similar to what a reverse quickstep would be. It's really good for reading inward rolls, plus if they don't roll you can ftilt/turnaround jab at them directly out of the perfect pivot.

+Miror B. Yep. lol I even recently completely removed face buttons from my gameplay. Now I only use the sticks, the triggers and the bumpers for maximum Bidou efficiency. I see insane potential in this tech and am willing to go as far as necessary to utilize it.
P.S. I've been doing better in tourney bracket the last few times, only slightly though. Still, one step closer to Bidou mastery and world domination

The best part for me is that I've been using this since smash 4 released purely because I like having one action per finger:
L - jump
ZL - shield
R - special
ZR - attack
Right Stick - tilts
XYAB - all on attack because I never even use them and attack seemed like the least offensive accidental button press.
The only real change for me if I want to learn Bidou is to swap the right stick to specials and get used to using my left stick + one of my 5 attack buttons for tilts. I've tested the setup I have now (same as above with only the right stick changed) and I can reliably do all the techniques in the video in training mode (being able to during live gameplay will take me months and months and months I bet... lol).
My largest problem is since I'm so used to using the right stick for tilt attacks I'm naturally still reaching for it when I want to, and pulling off tilts with the left stick + attack button is damn near impossible for me right now, I always seem to do a jab or smash attack, and if I take the time to be extra careful I've missed the window where the tilt woulda been useful. It'll take a while for me to train my muscle memory.
I'm also messing up aerials for the same reason... blarg lol.
This game just got MUCH better. Can't wait until this tech makes it into the tournament scene.

Guys, you can still use this like the c stick set to tilts. During bidou if you hit attack and special stick directional input at the same time it basically becomes c stick set to tilts.

smash 4 is popular bc it doesn't need tech. that's why it has an overwhelmingly casual fanbase. if ppl wanted to play a tech intensive game, they might as well play melee. in fact, I'm more confident that if this tech does get popularized, it'll attract more ppl to melee once they've experienced what it means to truly have control over your character.
This might be the tech to REALLY escalate competitive play. Which might put competitive Sm4sh into that scary to enter range.

+Edwin Vargas before I saw this not really. There were a few techs to learn that were useful, instant ledge grab, shield drop and some characters had a good fox trot, perfect pivot is useful. These took maybe an hour in the lab to learn and integrate. This changes controller, buttons, and the entire punish game woth things like slide spot dodge.
After the movie Despicable Me 2, I thought I would never want to ear the noise "Bidou" again, but now this sounds interesting.
I am amazed. This will be extremely difficult to learn, but It'll be worth it. Thanks for this awesome tech video, I doubt I'll be using any other scheme now until I perfect this!

Ever wanted to use bidou on a new 3ds system with a c stick. Here's a way to do it. Set your 2 shoulder buttons to attack and special. Have a+b smash attacks on and then hold attack and special on your shoulder buttons. This can be through an air dodge or an attack or recovery ect. While holding both attack and special on the shoulder buttons, use the c stick to the left or right and it will be a direction and not an attack. This is bidou not attack bidou. Bidou tech like perfect pivots and crouching perfect pivots are possible but attacking out of a perfect pivot is more difficult because if you use the attack shoulder with special still held then you will charge a smash. You will have to release special in order to attack, turning off bidou. All bidou tech not involving attacks will be possible. I literally just found this, I don't know the limitations of 3ds bidou but hey you now have the option. The reason that you need a+b smash on is because the c stick is for smash attacks and like how for bidou you need to cancel the special move by having special held and for attack bidou to work you need tilts to be canceled by having attack held. Since there is no smash attack button, a+b smash can basically be a smash attack button to cancel smashes from the smash stick.
No one knew this is what Sakurai really wanted, he hid it deep inside the game and waited for people to discover it.

I can honestly say that this tech is definitely game changing. Well.. once you get passed the awkward controls.The only shoulder button I changed was the left one. A lot of my smash buddies thought this was useless and I honestly thought the same as well until I actually took the time to lab it. The perfect pivots are extremely easy to pull off and gives you so much more options. For sword and Fox players, I highly recommend mastering this control scheme, especially Marth/Lucina mains.

It'd be interesting to see how their Smash 4 play evolves after mastering it, though.
This tech encompasses so many other smaller tech possibilities, like perfect frame movements, dash attacks out of crawls, faster ledge punishes, pseudo wave-dashing etc etc, that it could literally become THE defining feature between competitive and non-competitive Smash players.
I could see tournaments quickly becoming filled with Bidou tech jargon from the announcers commentating the matches.
