Exactly why I put 8 6.5s in my single cab but when I went to my first show not one person noticed because of all the stunt walls and exterior speakers. Imo the more drivers the more interesting.
Yeah I really like the sound of smaller subs! Great musical clarity for all genres. Super build IMO, I got a '19 JLU that Im prolly gonna do 4 SA.v2 SK8s...
This is a hybrid 4th, essentially a 6th using the trunk as the chamber where the 2 ports meet. Though it may not have been his intention, that top wall is redirecting the soundwave in the same direction as the aero. Its more effective if you seal off the trunk to maintain a certain amount of air space as another chamber with a properly sized opening into the rest of the cabin. Its still very cool looking!
If you think about it it's pretty close to having the same surface area as 4 12s but I bet they are super responsive with a smaller surface area per sub but I dig it 💯
I did that same "style" box with two 10's. I was just trying to replicate a down-fire box, or an under seat box. It does the job. I had more clipping running my DS-18 3k at 4 ohms than I do now at 1 ohm. It gets down, and the wife is happy. All that matters lol
Nice build. I run a lot of sundown installations. Did he say he was running 1600 RMS on these meaning all 8? Or on 4 each? Just wondering. I thought these were rated @400 RMS each so I'd imagine 3200 to feed them well on all 8. If not they still sound really good.

I have the same type of style but with a Kicker L7 8” in a horned loaded enclosure with a 2” L port tuned tune to 32hz and lemme tell you the air coming out of the port is amazing. And the horn loaded pushing back that pressure along with the port to catch more bass response 🔊🔊🔊
not even close. 6.5"s have very little cone area. although I don't know the cone area of 6.5 or 12"s, I can compare 10"s vs 18"s. 10" = around 300 cm2 18" = around 1,160 cm2 this stuff is easily found online if you look
Not 6th order. To equate the cone area you first need to find the Sd of those drivers and compare it to a typical 12" Sd. Apparently Sundown does not list that spec. Okay if we look at Skar EVL subs here are the sizes in cm²: 113 6.5 188 8 314 10 471 12 779 15 So 3 of the 6.5" is a little more than the cone area of a single 10". All 8 of the little drivers is a tad bit more cone area than a single 15"
@@JacobViral Two 12 inch High Excursion Sundown Subs Would be better Than all of those Six inchers it's way louder I know because I have Them on 4 Thousand Watts
No, because the upper "chamber" is not resonating or restricting output in any way. It's simply focusing the output a bit like a horn (but it's not a horn). It's similar to facing the cones toward the rear hatch. He's focusing the output rearward which also has the effect of increasing the path length making the small interior seem longer. That's all.

Sorry, but that math doesn't add up. Perhaps the bigger subs enclosure is not designed correctly and loses output or has narrow bandwidth. Then the smaller enclosure is designed just right. Maybe then it would sounder louder and better. But generally speaking, all things equal, the larger surface area is going to have higher output levels. Like MBE says, cone area is king. Lol
