Instead of using anything on the bottom got use foil to hold the tamales off the bottom of the pot. And it only needs one cup of water. Let it self release, open and let tamales rest for 10 mins with an open lid. Thank you for a wonderful video. I always enjoy mom and daughter episodes
Maybe you could explain why you think it's stupid? It really isn't. This is actually the coming I was hoping to see. You don't need more than a cup in the bottom. And natural release is an important step in the cooking process for pressure cookers. It affects the final texture. Using foil at the bottom would allow more space. No need to use both steamer racks, and the folding one takes too much space
Thank you, my wife is making tamales tonight and asked me how to do it in the instapot (crock pot version for us), this was the video I needed not some long drawn out mess, thanks again
I liked the way your mom "corrects" you, she's awesome, that's what a real beautifull moms do... by the way,we cooked our tamales and they rock. Thumbs up!!
Hilarious how you fought with your mom in the video lololol so real! Thank you for this I am currently fighting with my mom to USE the pressure cooker this video persuaded her. 😀😀
This is perfect!!!! I live in a small house so I can’t just be buying all kinds of things like a giant steamer pot to make tamales for just me and by husband. This looks like it’ll make the perfect amount with a gadget I already own. Thank you!
I think the video is more meant to be “if you have an instant pot you can steam them in here instead of a Tamalera”. Those things are huge. I found one that fit about 18 at a time and that’s all I needed for my family untill I’m the older mom who cooks for everyone 😆 Besides, the instant pot takes place of a slow cooker , rice cooker, steamer and idk what else. I just got one today as a surprise . I’m gonna steam some in my traditional pot and some in here. I have a family of 5.
Thank you so much for this❤ My pressure cooker isn’t exactly like the one you have but it does have a steam feature in it which is what I needed to know; the setting and for how long. I have all the parts you are using too thank goodness. Your instruction was absolutely PERFECT‼️ Only thing is that I would’ve liked to see you open and taste a tamale solely because yes I have some “too fat” ones also I’m concerned about as we had some friends help in making them that had never done them before but we had a blast and the more the merrier😊 Guess I’ll find out…
Ah, you cooked on steam setting. I guess you do loose steam on that setting. I use high pressure and about 35 to 40 min, depending how many I’m putting in there.
Fun video, your interaction with your mom was priceless. At Christmas we had tamales from Costco...they were way fatter than your moms and they were just too big. I have some in the freezer purchased from our local Mexican deli (Hatch chile and cheese!) and thank you for showing the time and method for the IP. Planning on serving them for my daughter's birthday.
The big tamales, mom knows best. Ha! Thanks for the video. I recently bought an Insta-Pot, as I call it, and I'm gonna be making some pork tamales soon. Your video set me on the right track to doing so in my new gizmo.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!! JUST GOT AN INSTANT POT AND I AM TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT. YOU GAVE GREAT INSTRUCTION, I WILL BE MAKING TAMALES FOR MY FIRST MEAL IN THE INSTA-POT. THANKS GIRLS!! YOU TWO ARE ADORABLE BY THE WAY.
have you had success with less time? my pressure cooker can do pintos in about 15-20 minutes at pressure (recipe says 6 minutes but, i like them ready to mash and fry), tamales aren't dry like pintos. i also saw another video which said 20 minutes. what do you think? i did a batch today, mine were salty. since i didn't have broth and used the Knorr. i am trying again in a couple days since i already had all ingredients out, i saved some for a second try. mine is presto, not instant pot. i got too rows in mine. next time, i will use canning rings to set the rack on to get another row in. my bowls were pretty high that i used to set rack on. i think it is a 23-quart. thanks for posting. people need to get unafraid of pressure cooking in this fast-paced society. It is a time-saver for sure!
I cook a lot in my IP. I make my dog home food every week. Bistec picado, rice, beans and more. I also have an Air Fryer, no more oven or stove for, hardly use the microwave. A new era.
Your mom is to funny, I made my tamales bigger this year...I like them both bigger for adults and a small er ones for the kids .. Nice video... Happy Holidays
Love it! Have you tried resteaming tamales after cooking, freezing and thawing? How long do you think these tamales should be reheated/steamed for? Thanks
I have never owned an instant pot. I love Nesco and actually do a lot of canning with my bunch of pots all going at the same time. For fresh homemade tamales I use 20 minutes, low pressure, instant release and let them sit and cool with the lid off a minute or two. I own 5 different brands of electric pressure cookers. I have a couple huge GoWise 14.5 quart pressure cookers (I use for water bathing fruits and veggies -under pressure because it's a better process... and I don't have to babysit the equipment throughout the processing times). The huge Go Wise is great for large parties where you need plenty of hot food fast. I haven't used it for tamales just yet but the processing time is just about the same as the smaller pressure cookers. 40 minutes on some cookers is going to be just too long. I'd suggest that people who do not have an Instant Pot to literally experiment with shorter processing times. I think she used steam though which would increase the times. I use pressure method. I even use pressure for hard boiling eggs... as long as they aren't clanking into one another on the steam rack - 3 minutes is great (quick release) perfect eggs every time. Some variations for tamales call for chopped hard boiled egg in them.
I loved this video! You guys are so cute together, it reminds me of my mom and I! I was looking for a video to teach me how to make tamales in an instant pot, so thank you 🙂 however I don’t have that other insert and I wanted to make them today 😭 I may have to improvise somehow until I can find one of those!
Love the bond you two have together. I like how you both went back and forth about standing them up. It's what other channels are missing. Keep it up!
I agree with your mom! Fat tamales ARE better! Your mom is funny!
Thank u.
Yes! We love fat tamales! 🙌🏻 Go Mom!
Yup I agree I love fat tamales.
Definitely fatter is better! I hate buying tamales and the filling inside is the width of a pencil...
No skinny tamales!...
Instead of using anything on the bottom got use foil to hold the tamales off the bottom of the pot. And it only needs one cup of water. Let it self release, open and let tamales rest for 10 mins with an open lid. Thank you for a wonderful video. I always enjoy mom and daughter episodes

This is perfect!!!! I live in a small house so I can’t just be buying all kinds of things like a giant steamer pot to make tamales for just me and by husband. This looks like it’ll make the perfect amount with a gadget I already own. Thank you!

Take out the bracket that came with the pot & use only the steamer basket.
You can then stand them up & put More inside.
Thank you to you and your Mom. This made making and steaming my tamales so much easier!
My wife and I tried your technique and they came out great! Thank you!
Jajajajaja Amo a tu mamá muchoooo, (love your mama like crazy)
Thanks for the video going to try this out.

I wanted to see how they came out!!!
Sorry we couldn't wait and started eating them 😂 next time I will.
I love that your Mom wanted to cut the corn husks😂. That is the exact conversation we would’ve had in our house with my Mom or Abuela😂😂😂
I cut the husk last year🙏🏽😎
Trying my Instant Pot for the first time with Corn tamales. Following your cooking directions and keeping my fingers crossed 🤞!!
I feel like I was at home w my mom and grandma arguing about tamales at home 🤣 I love it
Loving your mom ❤️
Just bought my first instant pot. Can't wait to make my first batch of tamales real soon... Thanks for the instructional video.....
Did you buy the strainer? If so, could you point me in the right direction. ✨
Thank you so much for this❤

Guess I’ll find out…
I'm going for it this Christmas, Wish me luck you Beautiful ladies!!🤘🏼😜🍀
Let us know. Happy holidays.
Your video is awesome!! Love your accent!!
💓
Right on , i needed this tonight!!
1 and 1/2 cup of water should be fine in the bottom. The IP won’t loose any to steam escaping. Less comes to pressure and down from pressure faster.
Ah, you cooked on steam setting. I guess you do loose steam on that setting. I use high pressure and about 35 to 40 min, depending how many I’m putting in there.
This is great! Real people making tamales in an Instant pot. It was just like being there in the kitchen with you. Thank you!

I forgot how much I love this video ❤️
I’m with your Mom, in thinking that I prefer “a nice fat tamal”! 🥰🫔👍🏽
Maybe if You had used a Flater Steam rack, You could Have Fit More Tamales in..? Good job, But Wiuld Have Liked to See How they Turned Out..😋😋👍
Thank you for the video. I was really hoping to see the actual cooked tamal.
this video is super helpful and super funny
Thanks for the tip on time to cook, I've looked all over and it runs the gamut 20 minutes to 90 minutes...
I am so glad I found your video! I had this idea the other day and was gonna try it on Saturday! I am so excited to do this! Thank you so much!!!
The big tamales, mom knows best. Ha! Thanks for the video. I recently bought an Insta-Pot, as I call it, and I'm gonna be making some pork tamales soon. Your video set me on the right track to doing so in my new gizmo.

Love the video. Going to try it with my pressure cooker 😀 for Xmas🎅🏼
Hii. Where did you purchase the strainer?
have you had success with less time? my pressure cooker can do pintos in about 15-20 minutes at pressure (recipe says 6 minutes but, i like them ready to mash and fry), tamales aren't dry like pintos. i also saw another video which said 20 minutes. what do you think? i did a batch today, mine were salty. since i didn't have broth and used the Knorr. i am trying again in a couple days since i already had all ingredients out, i saved some for a second try. mine is presto, not instant pot. i got too rows in mine. next time, i will use canning rings to set the rack on to get another row in. my bowls were pretty high that i used to set rack on. i think it is a 23-quart. thanks for posting. people need to get unafraid of pressure cooking in this fast-paced society. Did them once in 25 minutes...
I cook a lot in my IP. I make my dog home food every week. Bistec picado, rice, beans and more. I also have an Air Fryer, no more oven or stove for, hardly use the microwave. A new era.
I have to make sure the dough is cook and cause mine are a bit fat I rather make sure they r cook.

Aww this is how me and my mom interact with each other
Hi! If my tamales are already cooked but I just want them to heat them, should I leave them for like 30 minutes instead? Thanks!
Love it! Have you tried resteaming tamales after cooking, freezing and thawing? How long do you think these tamales should be reheated/steamed for? Thanks

i clicked like because you and your mom crack me up.

Thou can always place a plate in the bottom. I never done it but hopefully it will work. Or a strainer.
Soledad St. Hilaire I actually found an instant pot brand silicone steamer basket! So I bought that and it worked great 😊
Love the video. Thank you
Tamales are meant to be fat .. they were the main meal . They were lunch for the aztec workers
Finally a video...boiling my chicken now. Was intimidated to try in my instant pot. Thank you!
