I never put my portable game consoles in my pocket even as a kid. I always put em inside a storage case and then in my little bag. That said, this Rg556 seems appealing to me if I can play Genji, Onimusha, Okami, Shinobido, The Warriors, FF12 in it flawlessly. These are my favorite games for the PS2
It's some part hardware and some part limitations of the emulators, even on a powerful gaming pc they can struggle to run some Xbox 360 games at 60fps. @@sonumalik..
@@mr.commenter395yeah I have the Gamma boot loader on it for stick improvement (no need to physically replace them!) and then installed ES-DE as a front end and reassigned the home button to it, and then manually installed the emulators. It now runs like butter.
@@mr.commenter395yeah download Gamma’s bootstrap loader to do the stick fixes first as that’ll wipe the system anyway and give you a fresh canvas to work with.
Use the Aethersx2 1.4-3060 version then find the "hardware download mode" change to skip readbacks. Also enable widescreen patches. Those settings alone gives a better emulation and experience already
I have the 556 but this makes me want to play toca for the tracks on PC even if emulated 😄 I had the first 2 on playstation. I love the 556 for playing up to Dreamcast on a big oled and a decent price. Nes/SNES/psx also. It's good that you point out it's shortcomings and I think that racing games are some of the hardest to emulate due to rendering fast moving 3d environments. But I'm glad there's a less premium priced handheld with an oled screen for enjoying older titles.. without resorting to those 3.5" LCDs which are just too small for big hands and to soak everything in.

I guess we're just still waiting for that perfect mid range PS2 emulation. I think going for the PSP version of TOCA Race driver might be the best bet!

I guess we probably need an influencer from these parts to create/prove that market segment/audience interest.
I can play almost all PS2 games with Redmi Note 12 Turbo 26gb ram 1Tb rom using xbox360 controller and $4 mobile phone holder. Not pocket friendly but smooth gaming

I play video games to get excited about watching a race. It didn't run PS2 games very well but I was surprised it couldn't run fortnite. The switch sized console doesn't fit well in my pocket but it does fit well on top of the trash in my car.
I dont want to bother myself with it's emulation capabilities because I know it's cpu is not that powerful enough. But when you use it mainly as a streaming device then everything is already perfect. I love it so much because it has an amoled display. The best streaming device so far. And yah, it's cheap too 👌. Just cast all your games including emulation, no hiccups and low fps to deal with.

how get an android thingy retroarch? i hate only 1 thing at this handheld its the os ... android sucks hard...please ambernic build the same device again with linux and a usb/usbc for data transfair :D

People really look past great consoles cause they’re not made by any media bigwig. If you look past the licensed Consoles you could actually find amazing stuff Like the playmate and the analog pocket.
Playdate is a great console and totally unique, just really overpriced to get it out of the US. Analog Pocket, I'm personally not a big fan of. I think many much cheaper retro emulation devices do pretty much the same thing at a fraction of the price with a lot less faff.
I agree with you on that although there are still a lot you’re missing out on if you just go the xbox/nintendo/playstation/sega route without ever diverging from it.
You should play Race Driver 2006 on PSP instead. Pretty much whenever there is an option to play a PSP version of a PS2 game it is going to run better.
@ChronikSpartan only problem with psp versions is franchise/dynasty modes in games. They are either not there or handicapped. Otherwise I think this good advice.

I specifically went and got the rg556 knowing that the retroid 4+ was more powerful. I own the 3+ and they are so uncomfortable you need to order handles for it immediately and it takes away from the aesthetics and it can't fit in the case it comes with anymore. Also 556 has a much better screen.

I love my RG556, once you install better emulators and tweak the settings it runs PS2, 3DS and even Vita with ease
