Monster High released character designs and bios for its Nickelodeon reboot. It doesn't look better than the first reboot in 2016 but for some reason Mattel is rebooting it again only six years later. Weird.

Deuce’s snakes used to be these cute little pet kinda things, but now they’re bad influences that tell him to do bad things? WAT?! The fact that Deuce’s snakes loved Cleo like Deuce did was one of my favorite part about the original. And now his snakes are like evil little demons trying to make him make bad choices. It just ruins it for me.
That time one of snakes gave Cleo a kiss on the forehead was the cutest.
@@celtichound9889 oh my god I love part
@@celtichound9889 aweee
True they literally kissed her forehead too and he was giving them drinks by straws :(
I know right
My main problem is that they got rid of most of the freaky bold fashion and are replacing it with modern boring outfits that just feel out of place… Like the characters weren’t wearing modern 2010 clothes when the line released, they were wearing their own styles and outfits that really fit the characters..
@TheKitKatLizard Frankie’s style was preppie
And that's what made monster high unique. The reboot looks like Halloween barbie
It’s like they looked at SHEIN for the first time and used that as their entire inspo
They looked at "Descendants" and thought, "We can do that, too."
I thought not wanting to be seen a Descendants knockoff was the reason Mattel canceled the Ever After High series that paralleled Monster High. And the writing for their stories was far, far better than Descendants.
Ever After High came out before Descendants. Mattel made dolls for Disney Princesses but Disney was offended by the Ever After High line so they made Descendants as an answer to it and went to another company to make their princess dolls.
Does Mattel need to be reminded that they started the trend with Monster High in the first place? Even Descendants was following MH and EAH. Now Mattel is following the followers
eah being cancelled was brutal. however if they bring it back they probably will change the loved art style and a basic plot line because that’s what they do with reboots lol
Um, Ever After High came out way before Decedents. Disney made a knock off of Ever After High! Disney might be the biggest movie company and corporation in the world, but they make knock offs too.
ever after high AND monster high is both made by mattel they trying to copy the show that made a terrible knockoff of their own series?
People who designed monster high before: "Oh! Let's add some different aesthetics to the characters that shouts out their personality! Also, it can help other kids discover their own sense of fashion!"
the reboot art directors: "Just throw in pastel colors and 'fashionable' outfits. Those are what kids are into these days."
Also not to mention some of them look unrecognizable until you realize it’s them.
Clawdeen is the one that’s the most bastardized in my opinion. She was the coolest one to me as a kid and now she looks like the dorky awkward new kid.
Which should be reserved for frankie.
@@coffintears5821 It should be. I don't know why with this reboot they're giving Clawdeen Frankie's role when she was the one with all the confidence and sass as a monster.
She also looks like a nerd...which is ghoulia's character. They just hate that poor zombie, huh?
@@thisusernameisalreadytaken5132 oh God yeah. Ghoulia gets taken out of every single reboot it seems like.
Yes she's one of the most confident ghoul with a classy, edgy style and the reboot is not giving any of that

It pains me that out of everyone, Toralei looks the closest to her original counterpart.
Yeah. Tbh-- I kinda don't like Toralei that much at all. But then again-- I hate most of these reboot characters

@@yourmum1963 What’s her backstory?

They're making them so watered down and way too clean cut looking when just about everyone loved them for their original spookiness. That's why I liked them as a kid, they could be both "creepy" yet still very fashionable and usually nice good people.

“I’m not like other girls 🤩”
So im beginning to see a pattern...
when people or whatever say theyre going to "reboot" something
That basically means
"I'm gonna take everything you loved and thought was cool and make it boring and cringe"
Gosh, WHY in the world are they shying away from the goth aesthetic so much? It's not like kids now don't like that.
FOR REAL. The whole creepy part of it was part of what made monster high stand out against other dolls like Barbie. I remember thinking they all looked super cool when I was younger.
Ironic- I've seen a lot of teenage girls getting back into goth stuff and yet Mattel is homogenizing Monster High (a franchise DEFINED by being an alt fashion alternative to little miss perfect Barbie) into the exact opposite
@@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho Wasted potential since e girls are the new goth
Goth is ironically becoming more popular!! TikTok’s fashion videos have been almost always dark clothes and loads of jewellery. Why did they pull off into bright colours? Kids don’t like that and I don’t think they ever have! No one likes being babied, and softer colours & characters are doing JUST THAT to the audience! I really think Monster High is ruined for me now. I can’t trust them anymore
@@moistwrmonastring1017 I have noticed that too. Is there a reason dark clothes are getting popular again?
Clawdeen was already a werewolf which as I know it already means- half wolf/ half human… so now she’s 3/4 human?
Nah werewolves of Monster high work differently. It's more like their a wolf monster and when their cubs they look like full wolves and when they get older they have kind of a human appearance like human like legs and arms but still have more wolf features but their not half human. Same with werecats
They just can’t let good things RIP because they’re taking advantage of our nostalgia
While perfectly willing to call us every name under the Sun if we express that we don’t like certain things about it because they want our money from the nostalgia and NOTHING else.
You can blame the Cryptkeeper for blowing up the original school, lol.
Ha! 🤖🐔
They can only take advantage of what you give them.
At least the characters were redesigned for this.
Still awkward to see a third reboot though.
Honestly I’m just happy Ever After High won’t be coming back at this point. The franchise was just right and wondrous like it was. So was Monster High. They were drop dead gorgeous and perfectly imperfect. They should have let them just Rest In Peace and move on from MH.
‘Die as a hero or live long enough to see yourself as a villan’ explains mh and eah
I agree with you! I hate when they “reboot” characters. Just make new ones. That way we won’t compare the two so heavily. We might make fun of the fashion but everything else is based on how good the writing is. I just can’t get into the new movie and stuff. I might watch the show if I have time. But you won’t catch me tripping over myself to see it 😂
Yeah fr they can be the same species as the old ones and don't make the plot boring💀
A third reboot is questionable enough without lazily repeating the same characters.
yup bc that went so well last reboot with iconic memorable characters such as Ari Hauntington and Raythe
Same exactly. I will watch it whenever i think of it but I'm not exciting or anything
Fr
Taking away, arguably, the ONLY animated Australian character that made people remember our country existed was a MASSIVE mistake. Not only did they take away her Australian culture, but they’ve taken away the possibility for Lagoona to be Aboriginal as well, which was what many Aboriginal kids (including myself) were constantly hoping for... her redesign feels like more of a slap in the face than any of the other characters. Australia isn’t taken seriously anymore, we’re constantly mocked for an accent that’s hardly noticeable. It would’ve been really nice to have an Aussie actress play her, but I guess that was wishful thinking :(
THIs!!! one of the biggest fumbles in my opinion for this reboot, im so upset about it
Exactly, it's so upsetting :( same with Draculaura being Romanian representation. Ugh. I'm glad Abby isn't in this reboot (yet).

Monster High was what sparked my interest for alternate fashion. The entire vibe of monster High was "this is who we are take it or leave it" and in a world where everyone is trying to look like perfect orange clones of eachother this message is needed more than ever rather than g3 desperate to fit in.
Claudine looks like a librarian from New York oh sorry Boo York in her early 20's
Yes, I think that in this reboot they were drawing inspiration for Clawdeen from her older sister Clawdia
What they did to Laguna reminds me a lot of what they did to Howleen when higher up though “orange isn’t a girly enough color, girls won’t like it, change it” and then they gave her pink hair.
Howleen looked better with orange imo
I hate hate HATE how Clawdeen is now this awkward new kid nerd when she was one of the sassiest and confident of the bunch. I hope they didn’t change it because it played too much into the “diva black girl” stereotype. Ugh

I wouldn’t be surprised. They’ve done everything else in their power to be as woke as possible.
I reckon they only made her the main character because she’s black coded, to please the masses

@@kayiscrispy Hardly though. 😂 I mean they made her light skin, gave her a generic boring backstory with even more boring personality. Added bonus points that they changed her sexuality and made her steal Cleo’s BF 😒 If they wanted to be “cute and quirky” and have a black (light-skinned) girl as the main character. Just put her sister in there. NOW that would’ve been interesting. Instead they retconned every last character and made them look horrid
This made me tear up... First Barbie, then mlp, then monster high...
What happened to mattel. It's like they purposefully WANTED to ruin the series a lot of hold dear to our hearts. This is soooo sad, I can't- 😭

Not only that but some creators would silence those that criticize their work... That just shows that not only can they handle criticism but also shows them how pathetic they are.
I really don't get that isn't their a whole saying of 'give the people what they want' why do companies never follow it
I wish they would just make an animated series that will appeal to tweens, teens, young adults and adults, in terms of character design and writing. Shows like Young Justice/Teen Titans, Avatar/Legend of Korra, Star Wars Rebels/Clone Wars, the Dragon Prince, She-Ra & PoP, Voltron, and Trollhunters all did this. The writing and the character designs were neither too childish or too mature to exclude anyone. It was that sweet spot that's totally possible, which is why it's so frustrating to see MH limit their own potential.
I know it's a small detail in the scale of things, but why is Lagoona no longer blue? Ironically she has the best design here as it's not bad, but it's not Lagoona at all. Speaking of skin tones, why is Deuce green here, when all of the characters seems to be based off of the live action reboot designs? Isn't that gonna confuse people?
Also I really do not know why they keep pushing Health. He's a fun character but not on the same level as the other classic characters here. I guess I should be glad they haven't touched Spectra, or Operetta or the other classics.
yeah, I feel like heath's only interesting parts were his dynamics with Abby. Or at least, the only parts with him I remember are his intereactions with Abby.
Her and Clawdeen have the worst designs in this reboot. That is not a good design at all. If it wasn't Lagoona, maybe, but since this is Lagoona we're talking about, it's just bad all around. Being a "save the turtles" lookin @ss is NOT good look for her-
Because they don't have the other monster high characters anymore only heath is left 💀👍, I think their licensing or smthng expired and so all they got is heath
I'm glad they never touched Spectra and Operetta as well because they're my personal favorites.
Edit: they touched Spectra, I feel sick.
@@stingingcake853 Heath used to be "fire" and "funny guy", now he's just "guy constantly on fire"
I like the older Monster High generations. I like the goth / punk aesthetics that the characters had. It’s like an opposite version of a Barbie.
I thought Lagoona looked like a babyfied Ariana Grande, but now I can’t unsee the Jojo Siwa resemblance.
Literally many franchise’s reboots are making the characters look more child-like that it looks a little unsettling.
Because apparently the execs in charge of these hare-brained rehashes are convinced that kids can’t relate to a character unless they look and/or act like them
which is dumb, honestly. Kids want to be Batman; they don’t want to be Robin unless he’s Nightwing. Kids want to be Optimus Prime; they don’t want to be Wheelie or Energon Ironhide. Kids wanna be He-Man or She-Ra, not Loo-Kee or Orko.
In my opinion I dislike this more then the 2016 reboot
@@sailorduck2585 Well, at least 2016 MH still felt somewhat like the original, just in a more juvenile format. This just feels like Mattel disregarding the original for the sake of woke brownie points

@@Mayt5987 then why are selling creeproduction??
In my own opinion, if they really wanted to cater to a new audience or a new generation a new cast of character would have been a good choice.
1. it wouldn't degrade the originals and wouldn't taint their legacy
2. new character meaning new people to interact with and new merchandise
3. old fans wouldn't have a reason to bash the new designs in favor of the old generation.
I get that we are not the core demographic they are after, but constantly re-using character names and hoping it would make the older and newer fans happy is not the best option for this doll line.
1:40 This design wouldn't be too bad if it was one of Clawdeen's MANY siblings or even a cousin.
YES. I vote we rework her into Clawdeen's tomboy mechanic cousin Clawdella from Scarizona.
@@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho SECOND! Maybe fix the glasses (Purple frames, the gold/brown blends into the fur). I could see her as a little sister character for Howleen to bounce off without being a repeat of the Clawdeen/Howleen dynamic.
It would fit Clawdia since she was the confident nerd sister
@@Saltedroastedcaramel I don't know. The outfit and hair lean more tomboy (or awkward freshman). Clawdia had a more "put together" style.
Interesting idea, given that this is a new take on previous characters and you wouldn’t expect Clawdeen so be the exact same as she used to be in a reboot of the franchise
Fun fact about Deuce the creators said that was suppose to be revealed that he was actually half human but the show ended before they had the opportunity.
For the outfits and styling I can still justify them as wanting to appeal to a new generation that follows the fashion trends on social media rather than wanting to reinvent the wheel. The colors, however, are inexcusable: Deuce has too much green, Lagona BLUE isn't blue anymore and between the skin and sweater has too much pink going on, Draculaura could have had more black and white because the pink on the skirt almost matches the skintone but she is the most successful reboot design, Cleo now looks like her sister because now blue is her main color(again too much, could have been balanced with more gold) and Frankie I agree should be green even if the og design used a lot of blues. Heath's color pallette is an eyesore. Also I'm sad that we have no Abbey since she was my fave :(
Abby appeared briefly in the trailer...but she's nothing like herself, so maybe it's for the best you didn't notice lol
@@thisusernameisalreadytaken5132 You know what, yeah I'm going to stay ignorant and not find out how she looks like now🙈
the only excusable one here is frankie as it is a copyright issue. Monster High is no longer partnered with the company that owns the rights to the movie design of Frankenstein's monster so they now have to comply with some rules about making Frankenstein monster inspired characters. the character cannot be green, cannot have the neck bolts, and cannot have a scar across the forehead.
Even with the fashion, they can get more creative than that. It looks like they got each piece for 3 dollars at Walmart. Monster High was always about the fashion, it's sad to see them drop the ball so badly.
@@Chm388 Yeah I just saw some comments talking about the copy right issue that they have with Frankie. I feel they could have used a greener shade of blue but I would totally get it if they didn't want to risk it
Something that everyone seems to miss about Frankie is the copyright. Universal copyrighted the green skin and bolts. Since these new dolls are nickelodeon, Frankie can no longer have those things.
Just continue with the old stuff. It's still very liked and popular. And if they want something new just create new characters. They basically did that just change the names. If it's supposed to be a ''new generation'' why not take from the idea of the hybrid. Son of Cleo and Duse. Draculaura's and Clowde's kids, half vampires half werewolves. Make Todoroki character, half fire half ice. Why race swap? Just say it's a cousin or just another member of the same species.
I always wonder why some studios don't want to make new characters I think it's because they don't want to take a risk introducing new characters that the audience will not give them a chance because there are some people in the fandom that are too stubborn to give new characters at least a look at
@@animezilla4486 That could be it. Big companies are taking less and less risks now a days. As much as I HATE to admit it, I cam somewhat relate. I work hard on my original works but its usually my familiar fanworks that get more attention. But as the saying goes: no risks, no reward.
They don't have the same team making it so regardless the project would end up just bad.
They also don't have any original ideas in house and they aren't interested in accepting them from outside due to control issues.
Yeah. That's a sensible idea. 👍🏻
a lot of the reason why they just reuse old names and appearances for seemingly new characters is actually due to the copyright process. its a lot easier to rewrite a character you already have the copyright use for than to make a new character and have to go through the copyright process in EVERY country you sell the line in. it takes a lot of time and money and its just easier
My childhood with Monster High was a vibe now me coming back to this sh- hurts me like girlie Frankie stein be looking like a blue dried up noodle 💀
Fun fact
While Frankenstein is a free use character in the sense of copyright, the whole neck bolts/sides of the head bolts is copyrighted by universal, same for the color of their skin being green, that's why most Frankensteins outside of universal properties tend to have Grey skin and no bolts
But then again that's what my art teacher told me 3 years ago
That is interesting
Wait, if that's the case, how did Monster High get access to that on Frankie the first time?
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 well I'm guessing cause nick is 9wned by paramount which is part of comacon so it's part of universal or tied to, but at the same time I remember monster high used to air on cartoon network which is WB so idk
@@natto4now Imma be frank, this all makes very little sense
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 yeah copyright tends to be that way
If I'm not wrong why by example Frankie doesn't have the bolts on her neck and more Frankenstein characteristics is because they lost the rights to the creature (and many others) and thus can't use anything that is obviously from the monster they're based on. So yeah that's why they look so iffy and human like
These would fine if they were all new characters. Clawdeen is the worst looking of the bunch. Lagoona looks less and less like a fish the more they reboot her. They could literally stick a horn on her forehead and call her a unicorn and it would make more sense for that design. I don't like Draculaura's half and half hair. I miss the streaks, they were better looking with those colors. Everyone else is just meh. Again, better off making them all new characters.
But the question is will people especially the fans will give new characters a chance if they were created
@@animezilla4486 It would depend on a lot of smaller factors honestly. Next generation characters have worked for some series in the past and MH fans are pretty used to new characters being introduced to them. They made a bunch of new characters every doll line and movie. Having some of the older characters as teachers, parents or mentors would help.
Giving the new characters fun personalities and broad relatability instead of one dimensional sock puppets would make it easier for people to accept them. But Mattel isn't going to that no matter if they use new or old characters, so may as well make them new.
As for selling dolls, as long as they look good and have good quality, doll collectors will buy them. That's all there is to that part of the equation.
The point is, fans of a thing don't want to see the characters they love arbitrarily changed into someone unrecognizable to them. Which is what is happening here. Clawdeen is a teenaged fashionista werewolf, not a half human dork who dresses like a five year old and doesn't know how to brush her own hair.

Now I barely recognize it and it seem more like a money grab to get younger kids to watch it without having any of the good original meaning and story bed it and all the monsters.
I just don't understand the point of making a reboot that isn't for the pre-existing fanbase. They make so much changes where it might as well be its own thing and they don't even cash in on the nostalgia that much. It's just lazy. That's not to say you shouldn't make any changes in a reboot, in fact that would get stale fast and arguably is even more lazy, but change just for the sake of change doesn't improve your quality.
Having a third reboot is questionable enough without keeping the characters the same. Of course, I just do not see how changing greatly would be lazy. You yourself admitted keeping things the same would have been lazier.
Besides, it is the third reboot, so I think they could not get away with keeping things the same, or at least very similar.
@@Bezaliel13 I think changing everything and using the same IP is lazy because by that point you might as well make a new property.

I have to argue the laziness there is not in making changes, only in continuing the franchise.
honestly I think they're 100% doing it just to make more money by making cheaper dolls cheaper animation cheap live actions and overall just trying to cut Corners to save money and make more money. what makes it worse is they do release OG Dolls every once in a blue moon but they nearly triple the price so they can make even more money there by draining OG fans it's really sad and disgusting to see what Monster High has become.
@@berserkagain7976
How does that relate to "make so much changes where it might as well be its own thing and they don't even cash in on the nostalgia that much?" *I am dead serious in saying that does not really make sense.* Maybe if you had said they did not want this _competing with their "triple the price" OG dolls,_ but shouldn't the completely changed redesigns go directly against your tangent on "overall just trying to cut Corners to save money" by most likely needing new molds.
*On the dark side, I am sure you **_could_** agree on the conspiracy I just came up with.* Probably could make a huge rant on "they changed everything so they could keep triple charging on their cashcow OG," right?
But for real, your comment did not make sense on its own. Well, the movie looks super cheap, but the toys still would be different, possibly cheaper made but still different.
Cleo and Heath's design hurts me on a personal level-
According to Monster High lore isn’t Headmistress Bloodgood the daughter of the Headless Horseman from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow who was, according to legend, a Hessian soldier aka a German during the American Revolutionary War yet they cast a black woman to play the daughter of a 1776 German?
Gotta get them inclusivity points at ALL COSTS
Im not a big fan of these endless reboots, at first. But I’d just like to say that it’s fiction, fantasy fiction and it doesn’t always fit with the og stories.
For example, in the MH Great Scarrier Reef, character Kala Mer’ri’s introduced as the daughter of the Kraken, a legendary monster coming from Scandinavian folklore… while the plot is supposedly takin place near Australia ("great scarrier reef" being an analogue of the Great Barrier Reef).
I agree with you on the part of superficiality there’s in over-representation of inclusivity. Just thought maybe it wasn’t the most adequate example.

I wanted the original series to give each girl a guy that would be an interesting pair for them that could join them on adventures as well as challenge them Duce and Cleo both challenged each other and fought for each other that was a healthy couple. Give adventure meaning...monster High was loved not for the design alone but because the characters were realistically likeable. There is always a group of friends like that who are very different but they are all so close and I respected that. The reboots make them sound hallow, shallow, boring, unrealistic boardering on generic and unrelatable.
Lastly they had diversity 🙄 all those international monsters weren't a problem the people who point it out have the damn problem! I agree. I think letting the og cast grow up and show a new cast with the og characters coming in from time and time again for plot relevance (Frankie definitely would go and visit MH from time and time again) could have been such a genius idea. Companies seem to be too afraid to let go of the original cast which is why they rather reboot and completely change them - but at that point it might as well be new characters. I wish these (voice) actors got a better chance, because unfortunately, whenever fans intend it or not, there is going to be comparisons. It happened with the first reboot - but at least besides Kate Higgins, Laura Bailey and Erin Fitzgerald, everyone else returned. Wishing this all the best, I just don’t think I’m all for it personally.
As I remember, the original Monster High had backlashed from soccer moms and other parents who didn't like the striking fashions of the original designs. This is the reason why it had a reboot. Now, there's a another reboot...soooooo....who to blame?
FR😭 I don't understand what was wrong with it
What I always found funny about those parents, is that my mom LOVED Monster High, specially Draculaura (she's pink, that's her reason).
Even now she will say "you should do x and x thing like the Monster High characters", and back then the most common one was "wouldn't you prefer more girly stuff? Like the pink one?".
The only reason that stopped me from getting more into the show was money, and now that I have some...the show that the two of us liked is nothing but a memory. I wish they could just stop with these reboots...
unfortunately I think they're doing it to just make money and cut corners where they can that includes cheap reboots cheap designs cheap dolls and cheap live actions and what makes it worse is they release OG Dolls every once in a blue moon but triple or quadruple the price so they can suck the money out of OG fans well making money off of their cheap knockoff dolls at the same time it's really sad to see what Monster High has become and it's honestly disgusting
Yeah fr also the pre reboot universe had decent clothing like it had more unique fashion and it went visually better😅
Clawdeen looks like an aging librarian.
I really wish they just revived the 2010-2015 monster high
Wait, aren't werewolves already half-human-half-wolf? So if Clawdeen is part werewolf (AKA 50% wolf, 50% human) and part human does that mean she's, like, 25% wolf? And about Clawfeen's glasses. I don't mind her having glasses (well, if the frames looked fitting for her character) in fact, I like the idea of a bold, fierce character like her having them, it just seems counterproductive to give the confident girl glasses while dialing back on her confidence and making her more geeky and awkward. Also, Toralie Stripe sounds like a knock-off Moanica D'kay from the first garbage reboot.
3:55 they made him look like that one famous kid from Barbie and they made him look like he got dropped off the stairs as a child
They need to end the line if this is what they're going to be doing to it. At this point they're only devaluing it further than they did the last time!
Yeah, I don't think this franchise is gonna last.
It’s looks more appealing to Karens now. And I thought the 2016 reboot was Karen-friendly…
@@tiamystic this is worse than the 2016 reboot 😭😭 I didn’t know it was possible
@tiamystic Really doubt that the Karen’s are going to like all the queerness in Gen 3 but aight
Monster high fans: "Will we ever know peace?!"
Never got into Monster High, but I will admit some of the characters and designs from the original look pretty cool. Can definitely see it as a viable toy line (which I’m assuming is one of its main draws for people). And the play on monsters, myths, etc while a bit overdone to me, still makes for fun characters and personalities.
Will say, Frankie possibly having a prosthetic leg instantly made me think of Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon. I know other characters in media have prosthetics, but Hiccup is definitely one of the more popular and noticeable, especially cause there’s no magic, science, or techno way for him to ever get his leg back. Which just makes it odder to me that Frankie wouldn’t have an organic leg while the rest of her does. Maybe the creators ran out of geniuses?
They did such a good job running the characters!
Let's hope that the next six years will get gen 1 back and continue where it left off.
YES
Or we’ll get a Gen 4 and y’all bitches will be rounding up the pitchforks again
I honestly like *some* of the character designs, but not for the characters themselves. They could have been some cool new characters because that would work out better
If Monster High is trying to have different iterations like Transformers over the years, then Mattel should have released more series to get people used to the idea.
Jackson is so underrated. He have so much potential and can be the star of his own movie. He sid have a role in that halloween movie and an arc about him with Frankie. Plus he's supposed to be related to Heath. A movie about him would be cool.
I agree, Toralei actually looks pretty cool. As for the rest, I'm not terribly impressed either
I feel like they should just make a whole new series of new characters if they truly want to connect with the new generation and have the original characters come visit like future mentors. Like you want a new nerdy girl, a person who has uniqueness like prosthetics and make a backstory for that, an Egirl? Just make new characters! Adding it to the original characters will actually confuse future generations especially when we try to explain the differences. It just clashes. Plus the outfits should be based on their personality and what kind of monster they are (just like you said with Heath’s outfit. That just looked low budget. Like he just went to a target for the sweater and added the flame designs himself….)
Their outfits are the most disappointing to me. It looks bad. Now I will say that a reboot is a reboot and that means the characters won’t be the same. But some reboots just don’t work, like the mlp reboot. That’s because the previous version was already perfect. I think the same goes for MH
I think they should had continued with G1 monster high. Just my opinion! There’s so much more characters , dolls, & stories can come from that core of monsters. They could introduce new characters (like new lagoona).
At least Deuce looks more like himself than the live action movie... other than that, all of these designs aren't my cup of tea...
I never watched Monster High growing up, but now that I’m older, I’m really starting to gain an appreciation for it. As someone who dresses in alternative styles, the original show and doll line has a lot of charm for me. The aesthetic is so unique and it really sets it apart from other doll lines like Ever After High and Equestria Girls. This reboot makes the characters look like all of the other shows’, eliminating what was special about Monster High in the first place. Like I said, I’m new to this, so that’s just my hot take.
Imma need them to stop messing with my girl Clawdeen.
I LOVED the first iteration of her. She shares the same name as me. She was her own person who had no interest in dating and just lived hanging out with her friends. She was an older sister who called out her twin bro (another thing I loved as I have a twin named Claude) but always had his back. No one would have a problem with these reboots if they actually thought out the characters backgrounds, motivations, storyline, etc.
Torelei's backstory change made me so sad because I loved her backstory! Also Lagoona was my first fave character and they just?? She looks NOTHING alike! Shes a whole new character!!
They done massacred my childhood and now imma go in a corner and cry.
But all jokes aside, I was actually looking forward to this reboot in hopes that they'll improve from the 2016 reboot but now looking at it it looks even worse in my opinion. I'm just gonna stick to the original MH and not even bat an eye to any more reboots unless they somehow bring back OG MH
Grow up
@@one-onessadhalf3393shut up
Damn as a big fan of Monster High before and just knowing about what they did to Monster High now, breaks my heart very much.
I... ugh...
I'm sticking to the originals, thanks.,
I still have my original Frankie and Lagoona dolls from years ago, I adore their designs and the new ones are just so lifeless and mainstream it's depressing.
For the reboot to be this diverse, it feels less diverse. This is why I can't stand the diversity and inclusion crap. Feels artificial. If this was a different doll franchise, then I wouldn't have a complaint. But when it's an existing property it's less authentic.
What annoys me is that Monster High's whole thing was about being inclusive, you'll be accepted no matter what you look or where you come from. They've made it feel so forced just to get boy points...just feels so soulless.
Agree to both of these comments. Monster high was naturally inclusive of race, gender, and sexuality. It wasn't forced, it just was. The subtly of it was what made it so good. Because you got the message, you understood. Being individual with your own tastes and your own style was accepted and natural. But now it's forced, it's hollow, there's no genuine message or feeling,.it's strictly for the purpose of shoving in your face saying "hey look we are being inclusive too! See!?" Like they need to stop. Hollywood ruins everything good. Strong female leads being Mary sues these days and have no development at all, and it's so forced. Then not to mention the never ending race swapping of already years passed well established characters, sexuality, all of it. It's just... sickening at this point. Everything is just so forced these days and no one in charge of these things actually cares about quality content or original ideas. They don't know how.to come up with new plots and stories so they take well loved ideas of past, "reboot" them, and shit all over them and original fans all for the sake of greed. They still haven't seemed to learn their lesson that doing this crap actually causes them to lose money in the end, not gain. Ugh. Sorry, rant over
This whole thread is weird 💀. Increasing representation and diversity is never a bad thing. The problem is that execs don’t do it well because of preconceived biases (hence the need for diff POVs), and they can never go as far as they need to because you’ll have people like the above commenters crying foul about ever character and design change as some sort of agenda when it’s completely innocuous and/or mot giving these characters the proper chance cuz they’re holding on too tightly to their nostalgia
@@LP-ct9nk There's nothing diverse or representational about this. It's manufactured crap. Monster High was diverse in it's own way in the original. Now it's cookie cutter quota check list to keep people like you happy for like 5 seconds.
@@Saltedroastedcaramel right.
I hate how they are shying away from the Pastel Goth aesthetic and pushing the Barbie light princess look with geeky annoying charcters.
And why is Deuce BALD without his fire, this reboot is gar-VaGe
Thank the conservative karens
MH2022 being a Descendants/Zombies wannabe is ironic considering Disney felt threatened by Ever After High enough to take the Disney Princess license from Mattel and then make their own, far less thematically rich competitor in the form of Descendants.
Also, Frankie with a prosthetic limb wouldn’t be a terrible idea if it wasn’t being used for this version of the character.
Why would Frankie with a prosthetic limb be better on the Gen 1 version
Okay, but can we talk about Heath and Cleo’s show characters? Cleo looks like she came from Shimmer and Shine, and Heath...I have no words..
Ironic how "inclusivity" and "diversity" by Western standards are some of the least diverse and inclusive. I feel like I've seen the same old crap here in other recent Western media. It's the same old song and dance. Monster High makes it more noticeable because the old tagline of it was "be yourself, be unique, be a monster". But now it seems to be "be you only if you agree with our politics!" considering Western media's climate and aggression to anyone who doesn't agree with or is different to them (Vic Mignogna anyone?). Ghoulia again be not appearing, and I'm glad Abbey isn't being shown so far.
Yeah and since characters can't have accents anymore, Laura and Abbie, fans who lack representation that doesn't involve their ethnic being villains have less now.
This 100%. Every western show pushes the exact same message (“the message”)If you know what I mean.Even my mother has noticed it- she now only watched Korean shows because... well they’re way better than the bs we’re making in the west.
@@foofung9961 My mother also watches Korean shows a lot and despite noticing some similar story beats and tropes, it's still more fun, entertaining, and engaging compared to Western shows (also the music is generally pretty good). This is namely because the story beats and tropes that are repetitive in Korean dramas are not political. Nobody likes being preached to or talked down on, and Western shows do that in very condescending and smug holier-than-thou ways.
Yeah im finally accepting that childhood monster high is gone now ): this new reboot is ass
@@maskedblanks7774 silly goose, everything has politics in it, you just dont see it yet
0:43 u are so right, the live action just felt like a Disney Channel movie (especially zombies and descendants)
I have to mention this: now dracularua look exactly like Mal from descendants (mostly the 2nd film, even the hairstyle )
Not a Monster High fan but I did see the original specials on Nickelodeon and all I can say about this reboot is: HOLY SHIT!
I don't understand why they had to swap headmistress blood goods race. Like, I know that modern media needs more diverse representation, but doing that to an already established character instead of bringing in more characters with diversity just feels cheap.
yeah it feels kind of wrong in a way... i just don't know why they'd do that
couldn’t they have just brought in some of the og black coded characters? Clawdeen’s siblings etc? Robecca??
And there were a lot of monsters with darker skin/fur tones than could be rebooted well using POC (Catty Noir would look AMAZING played by a deep black skinned girl!!)
@@kayiscrispy love that idea with catty noir !!!!
I don't really care but Monster High had black coded characters already, why not give them the spotlight and develop them? Feels weird.
Omg I agree with you on so many of your points! I think Clawdeen's hair is looks like the dye washed out, I don't understand Frankie's rocker haircut, it worked well for Venus and not for them. Also did you notice Cleo has bugs crawling on her? Yuck!
Clawdeen physically hurts me so bad she was actually such a girlboss.
Cleo clearly looks like a cross between Princess Jasmine and Isabella Madrigal. It doesn't work. The old one was much better.
This reboot makes the first reboot actually look good.
Don't even get me started on Lagoona, if they wanted a Mayan monster then create a new character and give a new name.
They had one that was close it was a Manchu pichu flower monster that only blooms every several years.
@@soulsurfer7702 Amanita nightshade?
@@CelestePrimrose I don’t remember the name but that could be I but just remember she would rarely bloom as a flower and it showed what looked like a tribe worshiping her.
@@CelestePrimrose Or I might be confusing her with Marisol Coxi but they named it Monster Picchu.
@@soulsurfer7702 ah yes I think you've mistaken Marisol with the plant monster, Amanita. Amanita's origin are obscure but she's the one that a tribe worshipped before. Marisol is indeed the monster from Monster Picchu (a pun for Machu Picchu), the daughter of a Bigfoot.
By the way, the reason for frankies design lacking bolt shaped highlights, green skin and neck bolts is bc the reboots aren’t collaborating with universal anymore, like the original so she can’t have them for copyright reasons
One of the reasons I got into monster high What's my Little sister like watching them So I watched them two and I found them enjoyable They were on netflix I really Abbey Bominable She was my favorite character A character who Spoke bluntly And honestly
Perhaps a little too honestly XD
@@randomcenturion7264 what you mean?
Abby was my favorite too! I love her color scheme and general attitude
I miss the goth aesthetic it was what made the cartoon so unique
I love lagoonas reboot design to be honest, its very cute and she looks like an axolotl! But the original lagoona works better because the outfit being more detailed and fashionable instead of just casual wear and her skin matching with her last name
Edit: the lagoona redesign is adorbs yall were just some haters 🤷🏻♀️
They could have gotten around that by having her turn blue when shes under water (or even teal for that matter since Frankie is the blue one now) which on the dolls side, is a gimick mattel is been giving Barbie for decades!
And they could have made her into an axolotl. South America has tons of mythology. But nothing in her look even reads Mayan, let alone South American
I miss the old Lagoona. They could've created a different character for that design
@@Saltedroastedcaramel my exact opinion!
@@chocobiscuite I want my Australian surfer chick back
They better not replace lagoona’s love interest, Gil, with someone else because they are one of the best pairs in my opinion.
good for gouliah not even wanting to be a part of the reboot. good for all of us
When I saw the intro, and looked at Lagoona’s VA…
I immediately know who she is.
Ok, for those who don’t know, Valeria Rodriguez voices Strawberry Crepe Cookie (MY BELOVED💕💕💕💕) and Sucrose!!
WHAT---
I get the idea of making Monster High a multigenerational series like GI Joe or Transformers, but you need some serious time and effort to make that even happen. At they rate they are going, they should of stopped after the first reboot did so poorly.
When I saw a full episode on my recommended, I watched it and at the start I thought they were children of the actual characters or completely different characters

I’m actually crying right now because I saw an edit of deuce, clawd and heath and the song in the background was
Tongue tied :( I honestly wanna make a UA-cam video about how monster high shouldn’t change I’m sorry I just can’t see a part of me being destroyed I’m an adult and it pains me to see this I wish I could do something.
Draculaura and Lagonna look pretty cute so I don't mind them, but make Lagoona....you know....BLUE!!!!!
Not sure what they were thinking for Clawdeen and Heath, they don't resemble their original characters. This new look for Clawdeen looks more like this could be another one of her many family members.
Cleo doesn't look like herself at all, she looks like Isabella from Encanto
I guess Frankie is fine, but I don't like the blue and missing bolts, those worked and made sense for the character.
I like Duece's jacket, but yeah he needs other colors
I won't judge much now until I see it in action
As an og monster high fan that LOVED monster high and all the old movies, it really pains me to see what they’ve done with the characters and especially their designs, as a kid what I loved most about monster high was the fashion and that goth aesthetic that they gave the characters and I really loved how they took the time to make EVERY character fashionable and unique and their outfits always resembled their character, but now all I see is lazily done character designs like why dose every character just look like that one geek that gets picked on? Clawdeen was really one of my favorite characters because of her hair and outfit and really how dare they replace her fur jacket and instead give her overalls and glasses? And Cleo, my favorite character, they literally stripped her away from all her excellence all the gold in her hair and diamonds and instead made her look extremely basic and boring oh and Duece loved him so much but his new redesign just destroys his former excellence, and DONT EVEN get me started on Draculaura because trust me I’m really not interested in making this comment longer than it already is, but all I’m going to say is this reboot is absolute garbage they should have left og monster high as it was.
This reminds me, I should check out the original series.
