I just bought a 2014 with 70k. I got a reciept with it from local chevy dealer that "diagnosed bad engine". I didnt replace the engine just the harmonic balancer and bolt. Its a high torque spec on that crank bolt. It loosened up and made it sound like a bad engine.
@@JamesSmith-xs7sr I've done a few GM 2.2's, and a variety of hondas, Hyundai's, etc... Never replaced the crank bolt, I have heard of people undertightening it, since it can be hard to torque if crank isn't locked somehow. Is this a newer model thing, like stretch belts without tensioners? after the mid00's cars just have become disposable garbage i swear (and the price tripled).
In theory you can open up those actuator magnets that cover the bolts loosen up the actuator and turn the cam because the cam isn’t keyed you can change the cam timing without loosening anything else up and when the bolt is loose you can also change the position of the exciter wheel
That sucks they moved the water pump.... I have vehicles in the family fleet with the older 2.2 ecotecs, and the water pump hangs off the back. Even though it's driven by the timing chains, it doesn't leak into crankcase (:cough ford), nor to you have to drain anything for the timing system. I also have the tool that keeps the water pump sprocket bolted to timing cover, so it can be swapped without these headaches. I'm disappointed to see them moving backwards..... At least everything is still key'ed, I'm shocked by the number of newer engines that aren't and can "slip" out of time.

A co worker did a tchain job on one of those. Did NOT replace the torque to yeild pulley bolt. Pulley flew off when he as test driving it, lol.
@@JamesSmith-xs7sr Did it break or fall out?
You probably got a good deal if you just did the balancer, easy fix.
