    Whilst chatting with a friend who's been having menopausal make-up issues - we realised there isn't a lot of discussion or advice around this subject. This film hopefully breaks that taboo with some useful tips, warm friendly advice and a good sprinkling of humour (always good in these situations!) Great for anyone experiencing it themselves or for mums, family members or friends going through it. Huge thanks to my dear friend Debora Weston for being so brave, funny and generally amazing! Thanks for taking part and sharing your wisdom and humour. Ps Deborah is 56 (for those who asked) X

    Debora has been trying to post this comment but hasnt had any luck so she emailed it to me and here it is:
    "Hello team/gang/ community of Lisa Eldridge devotees! I am so pleased to have joined you all. I am afraid to admit I am still more comfortable talking on a telephone than chatting globally with my cyberpals but my 15 year old helped me figure out how to do this. Thank you for your warm comments. I am trying to find a way to print your commentaries up and make wallpaper to cheer me up when those mood swings get too steep.
    And thanks for all your suggestions: I have gone out to buy fish oil and serenity cream, primrose oil and now have a 15x mirror. I DID have a 5x one but could not see a thing.As to skin care, if you want to know the truth, I tend to use cheap Vaseline (or whatever is on sale). I put it on most nights as I lie in a bath looking at the ceiling trying to remember what I forgot to do that day. My grandmother used Crisco Lard, a type of cooking fat (this was in the 30’s ,40’s and 50’s). Every once and a while I splash out on a treat from Chanel or something I see Lisa recommend. And thanks for the comments about being too young: I am 56 and have been running on this cheap hormone-depressed petrol for 2 years now. I love that Lisa is helping us look great at all ages. Now if only she could do something about my missing waist and back cleavage!!! "

      Using vaseline/crisco/lard actually has a bit of a truth to it, in that it keeps moisture in the skin. That and sunscreen which Lisa & Debora were talking about in the video. Thank you, Lisa & Debora!

    I can't believe someone commented on her applying her make up on the tube. He's the rude one. At least she wasn't driving to work and applying it in the car. I hate how some men get annoyed when women wear make up and other men expect us to. The worst part is there's nothing I can do that will piss them both off :P

      I really love watching women put their make-up on, on the tube. It's interesting to see what they do and what effect they achieve (though not always good!). I'm always tempted to strike up a full-on make-up conversation. Make-up is the best thing about being female. I can't think why anyone would be offended by someone doing their face on the train. It's completely practical - and the light is pretty good, too.

    I reached menopause early on, just as I turned 40 (I recently turned 45). I've been using sunscreen religiously since I was 18. There are many things that I just recently began doing like acupressure, oil cleansing method, I naturally have oily skin, but it has normalized somewhat since using OCM. I have gravitated more to the use of BB creams than foundations, as they seem too thick for me now. I am even transitioning in my quest to let my hair grow white, lol. I've had white hair since adolescence, and have been dye-free for almost ten months now. I accepted the aging process with grace, as I've always been young at heart. It was a blessing to see this video, and I hope others find it as helpful as I have.

    Lisa, you have no idea just how much I needed this tutorial! I'm 36, & have been in menopause for 2 years. I had a hysterectomy, which of course sent me into menopause immediately. It has been very difficult to adapt to. I have hot flashes ALL day long. I live in state that reaches 100+ degrees in the summer. So, makeup has been a real challenge. Sometimes I sweat so badly that by the end of the day, my eyebrows are down by my eyelids! My brows are so thin & sparse, that I have to fill them in, or I look sickly. I relate to Deborah, & very much appreciate her willingness & courage to discuss her experiences & challenges with menopause. And, I also appreciate that you gave such great tips & took the time to make this tutorial for those of us that are in Deborah's same situation. Sending light & love your way.🌹

    • @TheSnflwr
      @TheSnflwr 8 років тому +2

      +candice bergstrom I'm so glad I saw your reply to this, I didn't go through a hysterectomy but menopause hit me way earlier than expected. When we tried to get pregnant years ago they said I would menopause early and my mom menopaused at 45 so I thought that would be my deal. I have been going through menopause for going on 4 years now and I'm turning 43 next month. I started at 39 and I have been taking bioidentical hormones since then. The problem with me is that they work for a few months, I have no hot flashes( and I get them all day every day between 40 min.-1 hr. apart), no depression, no mood swings( rage) and I sleep through the whole night, which I can't remember what that feels like. When they stop working each time my hot flashes get progressively worse. I used to just get hot behind the neck, face and chest, than they moved all the way south and now....I'm sweating with each one. I think my biggest thing is that I'm not sleeping so I have bags and blue/purple under my eyes worse than I ever have and can't seem to find a concealer to cover them right( I have a whole drawer full, lol) and my eyebrows aren't growing back no matter what I use on them to get them to grow back. I just had a huge boohoofest last night with my hubby about not feeling sexy anymore even though I'm working out and my body is looking better, the fact that everything else on me feels old doesn't help. He's so patient with me with everything but he says he hates that I waste so much time that we could be spending together, putting makeup on. My makeup is very natural but, like you, I have to draw my eyebrows in or just fill them empty spots up and that takes time because sometimes they cooperate( my MUA friend says they are sisters not twins, well sometimes mine look like distant cousins or not related at all, lol) and other times they don't. I'm trying so hard to hide the blue/purple under my eyes that it takes me forever. I tried to explain that I'm not 20 something with flawless skin and a full nights sleep, it takes more to cover up the uneven skin tone and etc... Anyway, after last night it was nice to read your comment and realize I'm not alone. Debora is lucky in that she doesn't have the deep dark circles under her eyes. I found a new foundation last week after 3 weeks of searching and it's from Exuviance skincare and I found it at ULTA. It's called Exuviance Cover Blend Skincare Foundation. I find that even throught the hot flashes and heat of Texas that it stays on. I don't even need to set it with a setting powder which is really nice. It's not as glowy as what I used to use but it's not completely matte either. If you have an ULTA near you go try it and see what you think. I also found a beautiful blush that just glides on with it and isn't dry and powdery looking. The blush is from BECCA cosmetics and it's called a beach tint, the one I got was Watermelon/Moonstone, it has the highlighter mixed in just a little. I...love..it...I use my small dual fiber MAC brush to apply it. Anyway, I'm writing a book. If you can go try those 2 things out and see what you think.

    I am 55 years old, I think the biggest challenge of aging is learning to adjust our makeup and keeping our figures.. ...as Debora mentions, seeing becomes a big problem...I also think keeping our skin in the best shape possible helps, without the FIRM canvas...it at least, has to be in good shape....Love the tube story....never get on the wrong side of a woman going through menopause...LOL..Wonderful video...I am always looking for ways to educate women about skin and CHANGING our makeup techniques and products....Thanks for featuring a woman of age, her skin is beautiful! ( oh and lip wrinkles, don't get me started on them)...BISOUS!!

My mother has already moved past menopause but I see her not being happy as she looks into the mirror and it is rather heart breaking when everybody else thinks she's just gorgeous and she cannot see it the way we can. it's ridiculous how it's not necessarily seen as an "okay" thing to be putting on makeup in public but also as women, we're expected to appear somewhat presentable at almost all times... I heard there are men who judges women for not putting on any makeup at all!

    There is a lot of trial and error in makeup for maturing skin, the number one thing for me is the crepey eyelids and finding the right eyeliner and tools to make the makeup go on without the skipping marks across the lids. I for one hate the fact that I have to gently pull the skin to even everything out. I would like tips and suggestions and recommendations on application and products in a video. Thanks

    This is a great video. I'm almost 49 and believe I've just about completed menopause. All my life I've had oily skin but now it's much drier, which makes me happy. As far as aging, my hooded eyelids are not fun to deal with, but it's manageable. For all the younger ladies out there, ask you mother what her experience with menopause was like. More than likely, that's what will happen to you. When you do start having some premenopausal symptoms, don't fight it. After your first hot flash, you 'll know what to expect and it won't seem so terrible. The woman in the video talked about the hot flashes making her sweat. Maybe I'm strange, but I never broke a sweat. It was more like a heat originating from deep inside and spreading out; more like a cold sweat. I carried a bottle of water with me and found that it helped to take a few large drinks when one would start. If you start to stress, try to remember it's only temporary! It's just one of the lovely things about being a woman :) Thanks for this video, Lisa!

I have continued to modify and update as the years have gone by, but now the change needs to be a different sort of shift. Thank you for showing the way back to feeling pretty again! You have mad skills...the term 'makeup ARTIST' is certainly apropos at your door. Very best, Dina

      +haret0n We aren't "losing our looks and marbles" we are finding new ones! And as to foregetfulness, what were we talking about? I know, it can be annoying, but I get so much more exercise now that I must take several trips to recall what I meant to do (get, put away) the first time. Celebrate your experience and enjoy your new adventures.

    I cannot say how pleased I was to see a tutorial for mature women dealing with menopause. I am in that category and it's wonderful to learn some good tips to deal with the unpleasant effects of this life process. I think it's high time that there were more videos about what women can do to still look their best even when their skin, hair and body is going through such a change. I also have to say that Deborah is amazing. Such a great personality, such warmth, intelligence and humor! A great example to us all!

Thank you very much.

    I love Deborah so much! You're absolutely stunning. It's so refreshing to see someone with both a glow and natural beauty but with some evidence of aging-- REALNESS. I'm in my early 40s and have seen many MANY changes in the last couple of years, but I am not willing to relegate myself to a place that "older women" are supposed to go-- i.e. disappear. It's so infuriating that to be a natural beauty past your 30s is somehow considered an exception. Revolution!

      VeshOfficial There are facial waxes, but unless you really trust it and have good experience with waxing, I recommend against it. I've tried it and on every place I waxed, I broke out like crazy. Looked like a clown for weeks! (thank god for concealers)

    • @Brittanylish91
      @Brittanylish91 10 років тому +2

      VeshOfficial
      You can use a depilatory cream like Nair or Veet but I wouldn't recommend that for sensitive skin. Olay also has a good one (I have sensitive skin and the Olay one doesn't burn or break me out). You can also wax it off (I'd have it professionally done). Some girls even have their cheeks threaded. With waxing,depilatory creams and threading it won't grow back coarse or black so you don't have to worry about that. (I'm an Esthetician so I learned all about it in school lol). If you don't want to go the removal route, a good tip is after you apply your foundation and powder take a clean brush and stroke downward lightly on your face so the hairs lay down. Hope this helps!! :)

    • @LouiseT2405
      @LouiseT2405 10 років тому +2

      As you get older you forget that peach fuzz exists, trust me no one is looking at your peach fuzz and everyone has it! Don't go get waxes or anything at 14. I used to be horribly self conscious of peach fuzz and i was convinced i had side burns (actually just my hairline finishing close to my ears). Once you realise no ones actually looking and its totally normal then you'll feel better. It comes with age (i'm 20)

    I would recommend her to take some oil fish or Omega 3 every day, I started that and all the symptoms disappeared. I take one gel pill every day, and no more sweating, no more anything, if this can help.
    I have a dry skin too, so thank you for the tips.

    I am utterly confused by blush, the advice seems to be totally random depending on the make-up artist, place it high, not too low, not on the apples of the cheeks after your 30's, 40's 50's (I'm 58) and yet here you are putting blush on apples of Debora's cheeks to beautiful effect. Could you clarify? Personally, I believe that the problem is that most of the make-up artists here on youtube (which I adore) are all young... :D Debora's make-up is stunning and so well done, thank you.

    • @suzan1mal

    I loved Deborah , I live the same problems since I received the diagnosis of early menopause when I turned 38. At first I was startled by the heat, I thought I was having a stroke hahaha My doctor was very gentle and attentive to me because he knew it was difficult for someone young go through all this . Always had good humor and , like Debora , amuse me with the challenge . Play with everything and give funny answers to people is a way to go through it more easily .
    I won the magnifying mirror of my husband , he has always done everything to help me , is patient and does not tire of saying that I am still beautiful and the great love of his life .
    It makes my heart warm .
    I do not do hormone replacement for medical advice (I have relatives who have had problems ) then I make use of foods that help , Tofu , soya and nuts.
    In the most ? Have fun, we are alive and full of health, have passed by menstruation is now easier ...
