My favorite slower cooker dish recipe Butter Beef (2022)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- This is my favorite dish for the slow cooker. It’s like a Mississippi pot roast but it’s missing the aus packet and I add Italian seasoning to it instead. I originally found the recipe on the UA-cam channel @Bigfamilylove go check her channel out. She posts almost daily what she makes and feeds her family of 6.
I make my own Italian dressing mix because the store wants almost $5 per packet of dry mix. The recipe follows:
1 1/2 Tsp garlic powder
1 TBSP Onion Powder
2 TBSP Oregano
1 TBSP Parsley
1 TBSP Sugar
1 TBSP Salt
1 Tsp Black Pepper
1 Tsp Basil
1/4 Tsp Thyme
1/2 Tsp Celery, dried leaves or flakes
To use as dressing
Mix 2 TBSP of the mix with 1/4 cup vinegar, 2 TBSP Water, and 1/2 - 2/3 cup Olive Oil or Canola Oil. Shake before using.
Slow Cooker Butter Beef
I-2 Chuck roasts
1/2 cup of peppers brine
2 TBSP Ranch Seasoning
2 TBSP Italian Dressing Mix
1 pint of mild peppers
1/2 to 1 stick of butter
Cook on low for 8 hours or more Serve with your favorite Starch or cauliflower rice.

Looking delicious! I am a bit jealous of that cut of meat! We do not have a butcher in our area and rely on the grocery stores, they don't ever had beautiful chuck roasts like that one!
Come visit me when it gets warmer. We had an ice storm over night! We just sent a steer to freezer camp this week … we have been waiting to get it sent! Sometimes I wonder if people just can’t afford the same beef I get to make videos on the dishes I cook. Thanks for commenting! It made my day!
Looks delish!!
It just dawned on me, this the second Howard taste tester I know. Perhaps he'll get more comfy on camera like Bev's husband. I can tell both Howards work very hard!
He is, I don’t know of any others besides Bev’s husband.
@@MennoniteFarmhouse We're blessed to see both of 'em!
Each time I watch your videos I am overcome with hunger!! I just wish I could smell the food too!! Your husband must be a happy man. I’ve been married for 54years and sometimes it feels like yesterday!! God bless you both xx
Thank you Angie for very kind words! I think he is happy! I read your comment to my husband! My parents just celebrated 55 years last month!
I love cooking meat with the bone. I think it adds more flavor. You have the best recipes 😋 you do everything homemade. I love that!
Thank you for the very kind words! Yes I try to do 95 % of my cooking from scratch.
@@MennoniteFarmhouse the best kind ❤️
Yummy!!
😋
Looks amazing. It’s always nice to see the husbands involved.
Bless you and your family for sharing with us.
Thanks for the very kind words! God Bless!
Looks delicious and his little smile before the bite he KNEW it was going to be fantastic!
It's amazing! Can you tell he wanted to just keep eating... and lick his plate clean!
Oh gosh Leanne! That looks so good with the mash!! Amazing recipe 🙏💝
Thank you!
You always leave me drooling with your videos Leanne. Stay safe on the farm
Thanks Paul!
LeAnne, we need to get a shirt for Howard that says “ yea, it’s good.” 😂😂 Just kidding, that’s definitely a plate picker meal! Looks Devine! ❤️
Great idea!!
Hi LeAnn! Oh my yummy goodness. Your hubby is one lucky man. I love a roast made this way. You had me drooling, lol. I will definitely be making your Italian dressing mix. Thank you for sharing and have a blessed night!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Take care and God Bless!
That looks so delicious. May Father bless you more today than yesterday.
Thank you so much! God Bless you and your family!
Another outstanding recipe! I love cooking venison this way in the skillet. Haven't thought about the slow cooker. I'll definitely be trying this one. Thanks for sharing!
Venison would be good that way too! Thanks for watching!
Looks great, as usual!! And I always love when your hubby does the taste test. You seem like such a sweet couple!
Thanks Tracy! I will tell him that… Thank you for the very nice words!
I'm so glad Scott turned me on to your channel! From rambling with the brums!
Welcome! I’m so glad you are here!
Thank you!!
Me too! I have the Rochester WA Mennonite church across the street! I love you all!!!
Oh my...I'm not hungry, but I'm drooling! This looks so yummy, LeAnne! I've got a jar of pepper rings in the pantry, and I know what I will be doing with them! Thanks for the recipe for the Italian seasoning. I would love for you to share your ranch seasoning with us too! Blessings, friend! 🙏❤
Lori, I’m hoping to get it filmed and out tomorrow. I’m dealing with either allergies or a head cold. I haven’t been this sick in ages.
God bless,
LeAnne
@@MennoniteFarmhouse Oh LeAnne...so sorry to hear you are under the weather. I pray you feel better quickly and hubby stays well. Also praying for restorative sleep and times of rest when you are able. Take good care. ❤🙏
That chuck roast look beautiful. I've always heard this called by Mississippi pot roast but I never knew why never heard it called butter beef before. I guess I just call it pot roast. Whatever the name of it is we love it here.
Mississippi pot roast doesn't have the Italian dressing packet but 1 packet au jus gravy mix instead.
LeAnne, you are such a good teacher. And you put so much into your vids. Not only did we get the butter beef tutorial, but we also got a seasoning recipe, perfect plating visuals and cast iron tips. I canned a lot of pickled banana peppers last summer for Philly cheesesteaks and now I have another way to use them. Hoping you have a blessed weekend.
Thank you for the very kind words! I have used home canned peppers in this dish! I hope you have a blessed weekend as well!
Oh my goodness! This looks amazing 🥰
If you try it let me know! I'm sure your dad will love it!
Oh my goodness this looks so good! I am totally writing the directions d❤️own I’m going to make this and the spices thank you so much!
Let me know how you love it! Thanks Jan for watching!
WOW!!! That looks amazing!!! It's also something I reckon Tanny would happily go for ... Soooo on this when we do the meat shop for him xox
I can’t see anyone not like this …. Well we will not call those people that don’t eat certain things but we certainly enjoy this!
Yum! This is how I fix our beef and pork roasts too, but I use the oven low and slow. I've heard it called Mississippi Pot Roast but never knew why lol.
Mississippi pot roast has 1 packet au jus gravy mix in it instead of the Italian seasoning mix but its close.
@@MennoniteFarmhouse hmm I've never used a gravy packet, neat.
Looks so delicious!! Thanks for sharing the Italian seasoning recipe too.
My pleasure 😊
Oh, my! I’ll be making this! Your hubby is a very fortunate man!
I try to tell him but he is more humble than me!
Another spectacular recipe LeAnne. If you ever come to Texas, …..well i could hope cant I?
I wouldn’t say never but being farmers makes it a little hard to get away! I do appreciate it though!
Looks awesome! I may have to put one on tonight. It will warm us up in the 🥶. Blessings 🙏🏾
I hope you stay warm! This week has been rough on everyone!
That looks so awesome. You presented this so well. Good Job. Hoping to see more from you.
Thank you for the very kind words! Thanks for being here!
That looks good LeAnne!
Thank you Brenda!
We call it Mississippi Pot Roast. So good!
Mississippi roast is very similar but it has au gravy packet instead of the Italian seasoning but any way you fix it, it’s delicious
I'm not a big fan of pepper rings but my husband will eat them on anything! Plus that looks so good I simply have to try it!! I agree with you about those measuring spoons! One of the best kitchen investments I've made!
Thanks Debra! I’m sure your husband would love this!
Your shy husband obviously loves your butter beef!!
Yes! He was like I already know what it taste like lol
Looks heavenly

Hey, Leanne 💖. This is making my mouth water 💦 yummy 😋
Thanks Phyllis!
I make this w/o the ranch and Italian seasoning, but add chopped onion and chopped green pepper and it's delish. Guess I'll try it w/ the ranch and Italian seasoning and see what my husband thinks! Thanks!
Let me know Julie how fast he eats it!
So yummy...thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I make a version of this about once every other month or so, it is my youngest son's favorite crockpot dinner as well! I do mine only slightly different using ranch dressing powder, pepper rings, little pepper juice, and instead of the Italian seasoning I use a brown gravy packet along with some butter. I'm going to try your version next time I make this! Yum!!
It's so good! God Bless you and yours!
Just started watching your channel and it is great
Welcome! I’m so glad you are here and loving the content!

I need to try this. Thank you for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
I’d love to see a video from you on caring for that cast iron cookware! :) I am terrible with it
You just gotta keep it away from dry from water and grease is your best friend
I've ALWAYS added the mild pepper rings to my pork roasts. It just makes such a difference! I've never thought to do it with beef or chicken before! And I'll definetly try adding the butter next time! Yummy!
I just cook my pork roasts with just salt and pepper… Im picky about my pork lion!
Love that recipe! We call it Mississippi pot roast but I’ve also made it with chicken and pork
Mississippi pot roast has an au gravy packet in it instead of the Italian dressing mix! It’s wonderful!
Yum
Yummy yummy you make good food !! Wish I could meet you someday!! You do an awesome job..
I appreciate the kind words, thanks!
Looks absolutely delicious. A definite have to make. God bless you and your family.

We are having a chuck roast on Sunday. I think it will be using this recipe!!! Sounds delicious.
So delicious!!
Looks delicious. Thank you
Thank you!
Am loving your videos. Did you learn to cook from your family? I get hungry watching. Lol
I did learn some from my folks but they mostly cook PA Dutch cooking. I try to branch out.
That recipe was fantastic ! Instead of potatoes l used cauliflower rice . Keep the recipes coming.. yummy 😋
That would be great too! Thanks for the kind words!
That looks fantastic yes lick the plate to it!!!❤
Can't wait to try it. Do you have the recipe for your homemade ranch?
The recipe I used for that needs tweaking but I should have a video soon on it!
Have made Mississippi pot roast a few times and really love it. There's many variations with similar ingredients, but will definitely try it your way next time. Thank you so much. Really love your content! Spring is right around the corner & I'm looking forward to what you have in mind for your future videos! God bless you!
Thank you Amy for the lovely comment! God Bless you and your family!
Looks sooo good, sop up that juice with some homemade bread, 🤤 thanks for sharing and do you have a video making the ranch dressing mix? God bless❤️
No I don’t have a video on the ranch dressing mix… but I think I will have to make a video on that along with my taco mix, chili mix and fajita mix. I just don’t care for premade stuff because you never know how much unwanted salt and sugar they add to stuff. Plus if I can grow all my herbs, why not? Thank you! God Bless!
@@MennoniteFarmhouse that would be very cool because I know I'll be looking for that video,
That looks so good! Do you know that here in San Antonio a chuck roast half that size costs around $13? John and I are rapidly becoming chickentarians!
Wow! I wondered if anyone was going to be able to afford the beef for this dish that doesn't raise their own. Yes use chicken in this dish.... Its just as good!
Keep an eye on when meat gets reduced in price at your grocery stores. You can use other cuts of beef, even shanks, whole flank steak, eye of round, Osso Bucco, buffalo, elk, deer, etc. Chuck is not a necessary, you can get all other meats very tender by just cooking them longer. I got a whole flank steak at my local King Soopers (Kroger) for $10 recently. I got whole ribeyes for $4.97/lb at Christmas. I bought 3.
Ask around and see if you can buy a whole cow. We get one every 18 months and only pay $800.00. It’s organically raised and I get to choose the cuts. I think we paid about $2.10/lb last September. I bought the largest chest freezer on the market and it filled it up! I already have my appointment scheduled for the next one. If you go to ranchers or look in the papers you might be able to find someone. Just keep asking around and eventually you’ll find a reliable source. I know there are websites that connect the non- farmer with the farmer in many U.S. areas. I can’t remember it off-hand but I know I’ve come across it before.
@@kp8174 I'm in Wyoming and I've not seen anyone here charging less than $6/lb and that's not including processing. Some cuts might be worth that, but ground beef, shanks, and many other cuts are definitely not worth that.
Wow! That’s crazy!
Oh man! That looks so delicious!! Thank you, I'm definitely trying this one!
Thank you for watching! Enjoy!
😘🌼🌺 That sure looks so delicious🌸🌼😂🌽🌻
Thank you!
I CAN SEE THAT YOUR STOVE ISN'T SITTING EVENLY BY WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE OIL WAS SITTING IN THE CAST IRON! Maybe have your hubby lift it and even the spindle underneath. I did that and it made all the difference! I am new to your channel and LOVE IT!. Where do y'all live? Do you live in MI. by Heather from Kneady Homestead?✝🛐
Yes Lisa, he has done that but it’s not high enough still. I had to complain to him for almost a year for him to do something with it, until he had to help cook one night, ha ha! They don’t make appliances like they did 20-40 years ago. I wish I lived near Heather… I live in PA. I’m glad you are loving the content on my channel.
Take care. LeAnne
absolutely loved this video.....i love to cook in cast iron when i can.....love the seasoning recipe will be making some....do you have anymore homemade seasoning recipes 🤔 i would love to see a video on you're homemade seasonings
Thank you for the very kind words! It’s going to be on my to do list to make a seasoning video!
@@MennoniteFarmhouse yeah....i look forward to when the video does come out
I need to put some sugar in my spice mix! Thank You!
You’re welcome!
This looks so good! Also looked great in the soup you made from the leftovers. Thanks so much for the recipe. I’m curious, what goes into the ranch seasoning?
Merry Christmas!!! I have a video on how I make ranch seasoning.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
Oh, now I'm hungry!!!
Wait! You came to watch this on a empty stomach??
@@MennoniteFarmhouse lol lol YES! Big mistake 😉
Oh my! Glad I tripped over this video today. I'm new to your channel, but I cook just like you do. Grow and make my own spices now..and vow not to blow money on spices in the grocery when I can make my own, and for less money. I really really want your MEASURING SPOONS though:-):-):-) do you know where I could buy this?
Welcome! I’m so glad you are here! I hate paying for herbs at the store and they have no flavor anyways! I got the measuring spoon on Amazon. I will find a link and post in the description box.
I have not seen the pickle rings in Canadian stories . Would you suggest an alternative?
I have used home canned bananas pepper rings already.
I may or may not have just tried to eat the screen. I'll never tell, but I have a cracked screen now. Maybe. Looked delicious, LeAnne, and husband approved, apparently.
LOL That was the best comment ever!! You will have to make it for Blinda and let me know how you like it!
lol your husband a man of few words but the important ones. “It’s good”. ….. there’s not much liquid in with the meat so I’m surprised it doesn’t burn on the bottom…….. but another nice easy recipe for me to try on jesse. 🤣🤣
I know, he only says the important ones lol I’m sure Jesse will love it! You can even cook it in the RV!
Does the meat take on the flavor of the peppers? I’m not a fan of those peppers. But everyone is posting this recipe right now lol and I’m wondering if I’m missing out. (Fomo) as the kids would say 🤦🏻♀️
I would say try it once and see if you like it. it makes the meat tender and a depth of flavor. I am not too fond of eating the peppers by them selves my self by I love this dish! I say try it.
G'day LeAnne.
Can you please stop showing your husband trying the food. It makes me so jealous! YUM!!!!!
Love how that beef just falls apart and the liquid in the pot much taste incredible.
All the best.
Daz.
Daz,
He would probably love to stop eating for the camera… He is too hungry to care about how others might want to see him eat!
Take Care,
LeAnne
Try it with pork butt. . .even better! We call this Mississippi pot roast in our house
Oh! I have thought about it... thanks for reminding me I have a pork loin roast to put in the oven!
