- I had to change the discs and pads on my 159 so I thought I would record it and hopefully help future DIY'ers. So this is my 159 Brembo brake disc and pad change video!! Valid for any Alfa Romeo Brembo setup such as v6 3.2 and some Brera models.
es.wikipedia.o...
www.brembo.com/
UPDATE: Have had to remove the tracks - royalty infringement.... Hope you like the classical music instead!!
few notes:
-its good practice to measure thickness of brake disc: front not less 26mm at back not less 10mm
-brake pads come in different shapes according to axis(front/back)
-i didn't knew alfa 159 had brake sensor, definitely will search for that
Aciu. Now off to measure mine
And we have more tips:
When removing rims check for cracks (mine was cracked from inside)
good practice go to the shop for balancing (my rims was badly balanced and one even bent)
before that i always blamed country roads for car shaking...
As an Alfisti, great work. Tunes are spot on aswell!
One thing i would suggest, is checking the pistons and their seals on the calipper for any damage or signs of corrosion. This should be done every time brakes are changed. If any of the rubber seals are damaged, even a tiny hole will allow water in and corrode the piston. The piston will then get stuck jamming the brakes or just making them stuck slightly and brakes will overheat. Then the new disc and pads can go to the bin.
An austrian vals and an italian diva. Good cambination. Love it.
These calipers are masterpiece!
Hey good video, erverything is visible, the quality is good and the cutting ist perfect, but:
You should always clean everything with a wire brush (inside of the brake caliper, the screws and the wheel hub) !
Especially the inside of the brake caliper: it is very important for the mobilty of the brake pads, if you dont do it: dust can stop the mobility!
And you should use ceramic paste, especially on the sides of the brake pads, because they are moving over the inner sides of the brake caliper!
Also there is a mounting for the cable. You should use ist!
Have a nice day :)
גם מוזיקה יפה וגם אתה מחלפים ברקסים קדימיים 😃
Great video. I just completed same job. Had to drill out the pins though.
man, this is same as my shimano saint brakes on my bike. :D easy job :D
Are they Hex bolts holding the caliper on - if so do know what size? Mine needs doing. Great vid
Grazie mille, ottimo video.
Love the video but mine is rusted to absolute non-movement. 🥺
great tutorial video! complimenti !!!!! You helped me. I subscribed to your channel
Thank you a lot!!!
Why the brake pads are a lot more slim than the ones on 1.9 jtdm?
Thanks a lot for this video!
What's that one screw for in the brake disc? Is it just made for easier installation?
Because mine seems very worn out and I'd rather leave it out than risk having to drill it out next time i want to replace the disc again.
The disc will be held in place firmly by the wheel bolts. However, I wouldn't risk NOT installing it just in case the disc slips on a wheel change. I would install it, just don't tighten it too much and you should be fine next time.
love your dog

Is it a easy job if I want to swap ordinary calipers from 1,9jtdm, to these brembo calipers? My wheels are already 17" from 2,4jtdm.
Was the video time length meant, as it is 9:39 the same as the moder of alfa romeo lol. 👍
MrNuvolari1980 well spotted!!!!! Total coincidence!! 😂👍🏻
With a brake pad that is in dire need for a change, Will it or does it affect Power Steering if left to long? Does a malfunctioning VDC affect Power Steering? PLEASE
Thanks for the great explanation! :)
Do you have the torque specs for the two hex bolts holding the caliper itself?
No sorry, and the 159 is no longer with me so I haven’t got much info around.
9:14 what rims are those,17" right?
Yes those are the original 17" i have those on my 159 aswell 👌
Forgot to depress the pistons?
It's the first thing I do: 0:05
What is the name of that paste you are using on the brake pads
Hi Jason, at 2:03 you mention "hex driver" but don't these screws look like they would require an STX 20 driver rather than hex?
You are absolutely correct! Now I need to figure out how to fix it on the video.... 😅 Thanks for the correction.
@@JasonNeil thank you for your reply! By the way I do not know which size it is I was mainly commenting about the shape. Some forums mention E18 or E20 socket
@@JasonNeil by the way, thank you very much for this video as I will be using it to do this for the first time on my 159 SW TBi soon :)
My pins were so bad, they didn't even move, i ended up breaking my caliper while trying to remove them . ;/
330mm disc??
great video.. please I need help I have brembo calipers for brera and I put in my giulietta with disks 330x28 I need pads can I have information please?
I bought pads and disks from alfisti.net
Torsten Just translation please?
he means that at the inner side of the calipper, there is a conduct für the warning contant cable, you should use this. also, you should use ceramic paste instead of copper paste when a vehicle has abs system on board (i dunno why to be honest)
Hey man thanks for showing! Did you ever have problems with stuck pins that hold the brake pads and wouldn't move?
Did you ever have corrosion on the inside of the brakedisc or such? Thanks!
Alex25CoB hey no problem, glad to be useful. Fairly dry climate here so no rust or sticking pins fortunately!
Apparently it isn't uncommon for them to be a real pain to remove. They are a different material to the alu calipers and this causes corrosion at the interface. Heat and violence is supposed to be the way forward.
Can you fit 16 inch wheel over that?
Desmo S I seriously doubt it.
Hi. Whats The driver you used to remove The brake disc?
OK, I just managed it by removing disc from hub then slowly drawing caliper fwd just enough to release disc. Can't bend it away on 2011 model.
Ive got the same modelyear. For some reason we have Hardlines right to the caliper...But if you remove the clip holding it through the suspension ( cant remeber wich part) you can move it enough to clear the disk. Hope it helps someone.
🇮🇹👍🏻
Mine has no flexible brake line to calipers - how to change discs without brake fluid loss?
Seriously? I have never seen a solid brake line to calliper in my life. There has to be some flex to take up suspension movement.
Alfa romeo 159 2.0 jtdm 136bhp solid brake line from vertical ally suspension casting to caliper. It has flexi on other side of shock absorber. New to me as well!
Ive got the 2011 20. Jtdm 170 PS. For some reason we have Hardlines right to the caliper...But if you remove the clip holding the hardlines through the suspension ( cant remeber wich part) you can move it enough to clear the disk. Hope it helps someone.
Hi, i'm planning on doing this in a few days. Can you remember the socket size of the external torx bolts that hold the caliper? I need to go and buy it and. Thanks!
Bit late for you but it is an E18 - at least they are on the Mito with Brembo calipers.
@@MT-zn6tc indeed a bit late but thank you for answering anyway! 👍
I eventually found the answer to my question somewhere on the interweb, bought the right socket and got the job done... Don't ask me if your answer applies to the calipers of my 156 ti because i already forgot the size.. .... 😅 I will check tomorrow.
Hello what disk you put;;; brembo?
Yes, OEM but sourced from an independent.
no need any locktite. those bold will never undo themselfs.
"Good clean" XD
is it 330 mm or 310... I thought only the bigger red brakes with brembo aluminum callipers...
330 on the 2.4 and I think the same on V6 and maybe TBi too.
+Zenderman you are right, i think with ti trim or on the sportiva trim with sport package they made these brakes available for also smaller engines, but they painted the calipers red. it should be the same aluminium brembo calipers, such a strong good brakes.
hey there, do you need a hex driver or a zxn driver for the screws of the caliper?
Hi John, you need an external torx driver for the two caliper bolts. Take it very slowly if you get some resistance and squirt some penetrating oil and leave to soak. This side was fine but on the other side I was close to sheering a bolt as it was very seized.
@@JasonNeil hey thanks for your quick answer, just ordered a torx driver set on amazon :D
I will soak it the night before changing
@@JasonNeil I did it today, did the change of both sides in 1,5 hours with a 10 min smoking break between the sides. the passenger side was much harder to loose, i took a 70cm torque wrench for more leverage, it worked. Driver side was very easy with a little wrench like you used in your video.
External torx driver E18 worked also perfect for me, got a whole set with extern and internal torx drivers for 20 euros
John Pyle cool! Glad you got it sorted. :)
@@JasonNeil Yeah thanks to you, i wouldnt have done it without your video.
+ little fun fact: i dont own a “persuader“ , so i took a large screwdriver and pulled with both hands, when the disc came off its edge felt right onto my knee, its still hurting but totally worth it xD
PLEASE PAINT CALIPERS RED

Copper grease and aluminium? No, no, noooooo!
ipad tres cuatro where is there any contact with aluminium? The back of the pad does not touch anything aluminium. It contacts the pistons which are steel.
Have you heard of a wire brush......
dee106ful like the one you use to brush your hair with?
@@JasonNeil HaHa clearly not
