Tower of Power is one of the most underrated bands of all time. It's an amazing band with incredible musicians. They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

My dad loved this band...and when I hear this song I think of him. It makes me emotional. Rest In Peace dad...almost seven months he’s been gone. You must check out ‘What Is Hip?’ off this same album.

We first saw TOP in Cleveland Ohio at the Agora when they just released East Bay grease. No one knew them, there were maybe 20 people in the audience. The next time they came back to Cleveland you couldn't get into the club. One of the greatest groups of all time and should be in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They are real musicians and have "Soul with a capital S." 🎼🥁🎷🎺🎲

Yes!!! An old Bay Area group, Oakland to be exact, brings back years of memories, not necessarily from cookouts although I agree that this is a smooth cookout song. Most certainly playlist, and you might wanna listen to What Is Hip? if you feel so inclined.

This takes me back. Just think, we heard stuff this good every day. TOP had it all. The vocals, the lyrics qnd the music, especially the horrns. Mr. Lennie Williams did the darn thang on this one. He was trying to get us ready for his solo Cause I Love You.

I could watch people react to T.O.P. all day long. The horn section was the tightest in the game. Time to turn up the tempo and check out "Soul Vaccination," "Down to the Nightclub," "Only So Much Oil in the Ground," "What Is Hip?" and "Maybe It'll Rub Off." Vocals are on point for all of these as well.

I have been enjoying your reactions - especially for RUSH. The way you get into Neil Peart's lyrics is thoughtful and awesome. Then I see you reacting to my favorite band of all time - Tower of Power! They have been putting out the best funk and soul music for 50 years! You reacted to an older tune - maybe check out their latest album....the song "You Da One" would be a good place to start. Keep up the great work!

I was 13, and in a dreary Midlands town in the UK when this came out. 49 years later, been through and loved punk and everything that followed, but still this would be in my top ten of all time. A complex and exquisite song, beautifully performed. Hate to be an old boomer, but they simply don't make music like this any more.

Again. Bongos are small, twin, attached drums held between your knees. Congas are large drums that sit on the floor. Many conga players have more than one, sometimes up to 4, floor sitting drums. What you hear here are conga's (pronounced cun-gahs). That is also the great Lenny Williams on vocals here. The saxophonist, Lenny Pickett has been the sax player on Saturday Night Live since 1985 and its bandleader since 1995. Try them doing my personal favorite, "What Is Hip".

The love of my life took me to see Tower Of Power twice live. He sang "This Time It's Real" along with the band, to me. Fate can be cruel. The first time I met him, our eyes met and time, honestly, stood still. I knew we would be together and 1 year later we were. We didn't stay together, but I have beautiful memories.

Hope you are on the mend. Great choice and recommendation. This was from their third album which brought TOP into the spotlight. Other songs on this album to check out, What is Hip and Soul Vaccination. They are still going strong 50 years later. The TOP horn section has been on countless albums for many, many artists over the years. From their first album, East Bay Grease 1970, I recommend Back on the Streets Again. Little bit different sound, little grittier, but unmistakable horns. Thank you for a great reaction and opening yourself up to another rabbit hole. 🔥🔥🔥
