This is from Live Aid in Philadelphia. There were close to 90,000 ppl there.
The other side of the pond was at Wembley. There were over 70,000 ppl there.
1.5 billion ppl (including my friends and me) watched on TV over the world.
There were more than 75 bands combined. Each only had 20 minutes on stage. They made nearly 130 million for famine relief for Africa.
Queen brought in the most donations during their set which still ranks on most lists as the greatest concert. You need to check that out if you haven't already.
Phil Collins made history too. He played a set in both arenas - he finished one and flew to the other and played the too. What a time!!

As many have said Hall and Oates were pretty much involved in the writing and producing of all of their songs. They collaborated often with Daryl's ex girlfriend Sara Allen and sometimes with Sara's sister Janna Allen also writing. They co-wrote with a few other people here and there throughout their career, but they were always involved and in charge.

Daryl Hall & John Oates came from the 70's and 80's era where nearly all bands and artists wrote their own material and didn't rely on outside songwriters like today. I own a lot of Hall & Oates albums and nearly all their songs list the duo as the chief songwriters. They are one of the most popular duos in rock history next to the Everly Brothers if I remember right.

Actually a lot of saxophone players can play the keyboard and sometimes play in concert and while recording. I think the reason may be that not every song will feature a sax solo or even have horns on them at all. Other than many kind of becoming dancing performing and will play too. I'm talking choreography and everything.

John Oates was having dinner with some friends when a very attractive woman joined the group. She proceeded to talk like a man would. After dinner, the line “oh here she comes “ kept running through his head. He went home and wrote “Maneater”. He wrote it in a Caribbean style. Daryl heard John’s song and suggested it should sound more R&B. “Maneater” became the group’s biggest hit.

It doesn't have as many adlibs, but you can get a better feel for the pulsing drive of the song. They just possesed a magic, hit-making song ability. There's definitely more for you to love. :)

Sarah Smile was my all time favorite but in addition to the ones you have done, Rich Girl is amazing, One on One, Private Eyes, Kiss on My List, and You Make My Dreams were all big hits and worth your while. Their music has stood up to time well and I can listen to it now and still want more!

Oates, who came up with this song says the maneater in the song is NYC. He has a great story how he came up with the first lines of the song. Sitting in a diner in NYC in a booth with his friends he was joined by a woman who drew everyones attention as her heels clicked as she neared. This gorgeous woman sat down directly across from him and smiled at them who sat stunned. Then some of therauchiest words came out of her mouth and John thought to himself, oh boy, watchout, shes going to chew you up and spit you out.

In my opinion, it is best to watch the original video with the studio version of a song first before watching a live version, so that you know what the song is supposed to sound like. This doesn't really sound like the original version, which is superb. Live is secondary. (IMO)

Hopefully you read the comments. When you said that they surely don’t write and sing all these chart toppers and that ‘nobody does that’ I thought I would let you in on a little info. The Bee Gees had six number on songs in a row. They write all their own music. Just an add bonus for trivia purposes, they also had 5 songs in the top ten all at the same time. I just had to add that in so you know it can be done. By the way, you would be so fun to hang out and go to the disco with and hang out. I was jr high and starting high school so nothing crazy but it was so fun. Keep reacting and give those Bee Gees another listen. AMAZING 😊

The first time I heard this song was in I believe 1982 after graduating Navy Boot Camp in San Diego. There was a local establishment by the name of "The Body Shop." Obviously it was a strip club. A women that made all the young men tingle dressed in leopard pattern would perform to this song. Fond memories. That's my "Man Eater" story, and I'm sticking with it!!

John had written a prototype of "Maneater"; he was banging it around with Edgar Winter. It was like a reggae song. I said, "Well, the chords are interesting, but I think we should change the groove." I changed it to that Motown kind of groove. So we did that, and I played it for Sara Allen and sang it for her…[Sings] "Oh here she comes / Watch out boy she’ll chew you up / Oh here she comes / She's a maneater… and a…" I forget what the last line was. She said, "drop that shit at the end and go, 'She's a maneater,' and stop! And I said, 'No, you’re crazy, that's messed up.'" Then I thought about it, and I realized she was right. And it made all the difference in the song.

the song was actually a John Oates idea at first. He met a model with a dirty mouth cussing all over the place, and he thought "Oh she will chew you up". He presented the song to Daryl as a reggae song, and Daryl turned it into the song we all know. Later they both said the song was actually more about NYC at the time than an actual woman, but of course the impetus for the song was in fact, a maneating woman.

Daryl and John wrote all the songs. In the video for "I can't go for that" you were asking about the video. Daryl said that by the 80's they had absolute creative control over the music but when it came to music video's they knew nothing about it so they would often be at the mercy of these music video director's who were "So coked up they hadn't in slept two days" telling what their video was going to be like. They weren't happy with most of their music video's. That said the video for "Possession Obsession" is very good even though it wasn't one of their big hits It's a favorite of mine, and it's also a song that John sings lead.

Girl if you like Daryl Hall then you have to check out the videos from Live At Daryl's House!! He gathered the most accomplished musicians you're likely to see as a house band and then invited special guests to join them for some epic jam sessions! One of my favorites is with CeeLo. I've never heard him sound better. Daryl no longer has the show at his house but rather at a restaurant he opened so it's still his place. 😊 It all shut down during Covid but I think he recently revived it. ☮️ ❤️ 🎶 🎸 🎶

The song appeared in Dancing with the Stars. It fits the dance💃 style called two-step.
Written by Sara Allen, Daryl Hall and John Oates. Produced by Daryl Hall and John Oates. Easily the most recognized song of Daryl Hall and John Oates. The 2 write many songs. The Allen sisters were the frequent collaborators. David Allen Stewart, other writers wrote with Daryl Hall and/or John Oates.
In 1987, John Oates and Iva Davies wrote Electric Blue for Icehouse, the band where Davies is the lead singer. Oates sang backing vocals with Davies. The band is from Australia 🇦🇺.
3 years (40 years ago 🎂) before also Down Under, Daryl Hall sang backing vocals in Original Sin, as performed by INXS.
They met as students at Temple 🕍 University, Philadelphia. The venue there is Veterans Stadium 🏟, Philadelphia. Home of the Eagles of the NFL 🏈.
No, this is not about a woman! They said this is about New York City.
This song was released in 1982. Nelly Furtado was a kid then. So was I! 😎 Nelly Furtado wrote Maneater in the 1990s. Different song 🎵 and different meaning.
She did appear in CSI. Her song did appear in that episode.

If you like the sax there's a movie called "Eddie and the cruisers' Its about 50s or 60s rock band. The real band that plays the music in the movie is "John Cafferty and the beaver brown band". You need to react to "Eddie and the Cruisers - on the dark side' You'll love it.

Love this! You *must* also react to Mr. Mister, another 80s band. "Kyrie Eleison" and "Broken Wings" are the hits they are/were known for. Richard Page's vocals are AMAZING.
