This song was a standard play in clubs across the country when it hit the streets. I remember the guys and gals loving this masterpiece. Dance floors were always packed with Tower Of Power tunes.
JM is learning fast how GREAT the music was in OUR youth. We were so lucky to hear these songs new and in many cases it blew our minds.@@alisonwinston2547
The Tower has had some very talented lead singers, Rick Stevens, who served as lead singer in its early years, lending his vocals to the East Bay funk group's signature 1972 hit, “You're Still a Young Man,” ... Later on So Very Hard To Go with Lenny Williams performing the vocals. The song is the band's biggest hit to date in the United States, peaking at No. 17 on the Hot 100 on 28 July 1973 and No. 4 on KHJ radio in L.A. on 31 July 1973. You have them both in your playlist.... cool
Haven't heard this song in a long time. Was big back in the day. Forgot how good it is. Something special about it. And as others have commented, I too remembered the lyrics.
I was a senior at Illinois State University in 1969 and Tower of Power played at the University Union. Great Concert indeed I played trumpet coronet and baritone in my earlier years and could read music by age12...so I love the brass section of this group.. indeed !
@@RBS314And you should have seen my date ! She was gorgeous Dance we did...memories of a lifetime....soon to be 78 what a great time was had in my youth.. indeed ! db
"So Very Hard To GO" Ain't nothin' I can say, nothin' I can do, I feel so bad, yeah, I feel so blue. I got to make it right for everyone concerned even if it's me, if it means it's me what's gettin' burned. 'Cause I could never make you unhappy, no, I couldn't do that girl, only wish I didn't have to love you do, makes it so, so very hard to go. (backgrounds-So very hard to go) 'Cause I love you so, (backgrounds answer-So very hard to go), ah, I love you do. I'd have to pay for my mistakes, I can't blame you for what you're doin' to me girl, even tho' my heart aches. Your dreams have all come true just the way you planned them, so I'll just step aside, I'm gon step aside and lend a helping hand then. 'Cause I could never make you unhappy, no I couldn't do that girl, only wish I didn't love you so, makes it so, so very hard to go. (Backgrounds-So very hard to go) 'Cause I love you so (backgrounds answer-so very hard to go) Oh, I love you so (backgrounds answer again-so very hard to go) And it ain't easy to walk away when a man love some body (so very hard to go) hey, hey, hey, hey.
LOVE TOP❣ Sweet soul sounds of my childhood. JM you should react to TOP's other top hits: "You're Still a Young Man", "Sparkling in the Sand">(will take you on a trip), "What is Hip" 🎤🎺🎷🎸✌🤩
The Perfect Classic Rock Song with Mick Taylor on guitar and Nicky Hopkins on piano and Mick Jagger voice singing his lyrics in this Masterpiece..... Rolling Stones - Time Waits For No One (Remastered)
Hey JM, you should try "Silky Soul" by the legendary group Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, the song is a tribute to the late great Marvin Gaye who put Frankie and his group on the game, he helped them to land a deal with Capitol Records. Silky Soul is the title track of the album released in 1989, wich includes the hit '"Can't Get Over You", both songs worth a listen. Cheers from Brazil!
With absolutely no disrespect to all of the great "Horn Bands" of the 70's, like Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, Brass Construction, Sun, The Ohio Players, The Brecker Brothers, etc. IMHO, Tower of Power (TOP) has the best "Horn Section" in the music business!!!
I hope you have back up for your videos in case YT goes down. I copy each one into a file and memory sticks so I will have them and share them for the foreseeable future with family and friends. I'll be happy to send you a copy any time. Thanks for the great content.
Chicago is a very good studio recording band. The horn players are all graduates from DePaul University School of Music. In a recording session they are able to go back and correct mistakes. I saw them in person and the trumpet player cracked notes and was terrible
Still remembered all the words! People actually fell in love in those days.
This is definetely a TOP classic/standard a song they always do on their shows!! A song that's 50 years old but still timeless!!
Two iconic bands from this era are Tower of Power and Earth, Wind, and Fire. EVERYBODY loves these two bands!
Don't Forget Chicago. Seeing EWF and Chicago September 1st in Concord CA!
2024 I’m 72 years old still listen to this song horn section is off the hook!!!
😆TRUTH🙌
Paula voce é uma privilegiada por ter esse bom gosto e ainda cultivando o habito de ouvir musica. um forte abraço.
I haven't heard this one for awhile, but I immediately sang along: every word, every inflection; it's in me! 🎶
I'M GLAD I GREW UP WITH THIS MUSIC, PURE GOLD.
Old-school soul from Tower of Power
Tightest band ever. Even live, never miss a beat.
Chicago is another great band who has amazing horns and amazing songs!!❤️❤️
Chicago was more of a better recording band than in live performance.
Tower of Power is still playing concerts!! I was so lucky to have their music as a teenager!! Their brass section was awesome!!❤
This song was a standard play in clubs across the country when it hit the streets. I remember the guys and gals loving this masterpiece. Dance floors were always packed with Tower Of Power tunes.
Few groups, if any had Horns that could match the Tower Of Power, Or Vocalist that could touch them. This group had it all. Thanks again. #271
EWF had great horns too
He acts like he's never heard this...bless his heart, so young, welcome to the 70s!!

I have seen TOP a few times over the years and they NEVER disappoint..OUTstanding!!
Best heard on a good vintage stereo system such as a pair of Cerwin Vega DX-7 speakers and a realistic STA 2100 receiver.

Weeping Lenny. The 2nd vocalist of TOP and the best. 😊 He came in on the 3rd album after Rick Stevens was jailed for killing a drug dealer.😮

I sang this when my first wife dumped me, with a few changes, especially I sang "I could never make you happy." Because nothing I did was good enough.
Baritone sax is off the hook.
Tower Of Power with the music they had back in the day you would create a whole new generation after fooling with that band music
