Mazda 6 with inline six. Please and thank you
Yes!
Yes 👍🏼 - LIFTED like the Subaru Legacy / Toyota Crown (8+ inches ground clearance)
@@nextleveljourney6612 Nobody wants that crap.
the return of the Mazdaspeed 6 with this engine would be truly a sight to behold
Crap?
You know this how?
I would definitely get a Mazda6 with that engine. I love Mazda's quality and attention to detail... even my '18 Mazda3 hatchback is extremely nice
Would be awesome if the new Mazda 6 is rwd like the old 929!
@@anydaynow01Maybe their 5 series competitor will be a Mazda 9.
@@anydaynow01 that was a classic. My cousin had one
I feel like Mazda has become one of those under the radar brands. Their styling has impressed me lately.
You had me in the 1st half. I'm not gonna lie. 😂
This would be a potent engine for a new Mazda6!
We need that Mazda6
I would love if they brought the 6 back
A Mazda6 with this engine and a manual gearbox.
Would make me regret just having bought a Mazda3 Fastback.
@@abrahamwilberforce9824 Yeah me regret buying a 2022 3 turbo
Funny way to spell Miata
340 horsepower/ 369 torque sounds really good. I hope they update the 2.5 Turbo and mate it to their new 8 speed transmission. That would be awesome 😎
It was exclusively designed for the RWD platform and probably would not fit in a transverse FWD arrangement like the CX-5. I do not think you will see this.
@@bobstevens7028 I meant the current 2.5 turbo 4 cylinder. They already have a RWD 6 spd manual/automatic transmission from the Miata. It would probably fit in a RWD Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX-5, CX 30, etc. I hope they go RWD on all their models.
@@Tonsofice not going to happen. The current vehicles are going to stay the same. There is a chance a new Mazda 6 comes out based on this rear wheel drive platform. And maybe a coupe. But the rest are going to keep the platform they are on. I wish they would make an 8 speed transmission for them, the 6 doesn't get good enough gas mileage.
Sorry boys, they’ll put it in a cross over with electric motors in the front before they put it in a real driver’s car
It must be turbo charged. Too bad
Mazda should bring their truck in the US with this inline 6 engine! I would definitely buy one!
This!
Get this engine in a sporty sedan or performance sedan.
Inline 6 engine, rwd and a manual transmission would be my dream for an upcoming Mazda 6. Would be the first to buy it!
My first car was a 1984 Toyota Supra with the inline-6 putting out a meager 161-bhp … but was it EVER smoooooooth!! I can only imagine this one by Mazzzzzda!! 🤩
I'de prefer the rotary to come back.
CX70 here I come!!! This inline 6 under the hood of a slightly shorter vehicle should be a great daily driver.
Would be an x5 competitor
@@Hallowsaw like an x5 but reliable and you dont have to pay a subscription for heated seats
@@Hallowsaw no it’s not 💀
@@mattmekhaeil Have you sat in the new Mazda cars? Hell, even the Mazda6 in higher trim levels is genuinely luxurious. The only luxury feature it is missing is massaging seats, a fully pano roof (not just over the driver) and cooled rear seats (has heated). Mazda Premium is very much attainable luxury.
@@michaelkovalsky4907 I have and they are nice but I wouldn't go that far comparing to a bmw
Exciting to see a new I-6 ICE come to market. I hope the new line of RWD-based Mazdas are what I think most people hope they are, and that they hit the U.S.
Hell yes I'm in.
Chrysler is also introducing a new inline 6, its a turbo motor that's replacing the current hemi. 510hp is nothing to sneeze at.
@@DrewLSsix HaHa !
I'm glad hearing that people still appreciate the awesomeness of inline 6's!
I like the smile and look of joy you have in this video. Putting this in a Mazda 6 would be excellent.
can we get this engine in a RX7-like sports car, holy crap. can we get a Z / supra fighter from mazda again please?
The new RX7 should be a hybrid rotary. Electric for the low end and rotary turbo screams for the high end.
Match made in heaven!
@@anydaynow01 God no
@@anydaynow01 theres no chance theyre ever making a rotary again, the rx9 would have their new 3.3l inline 6 turbo (possibly with hybrid) if they made one
Fuck electrics and f*** you
They should just make a Supra/Z4 sized variant of the Miata with this engine.
The in-line 6’s that BMW makes are generally pretty darn good. I have a 3.0 I6 in a Z3 and it rips😊
They're the best
Glad for Mazda - the only Japanese manufacturer that's on a right track - I6, rwd... Will definitely consider new 6!
Even though it is more costly, I use 93 octane in my Mazda 6 turbo because it makes it so much more fun to drive. It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing. :) Hopefully a new 6 will be on the market when it's time for a new vehicle.
95 octane is standard in the uk with premium being between 97 and 99 octane 🙂
Some engines have ECU's that can detect the fuel diff and adjust accordingly. Have fun. ;)
@@asianskywalker is that 95 RON octane, if so that's about 91 US (AKI) octane
@@timw2083 yeah I think so
I have the same car! I use premium too! I also have performance tires!
I've been looking forward to this engine since they first announced it, and worried the whole time they would cancel it without ever making it. I was hoping for naturally aspirated, but accepted it would likely be turbo. And now hybridization too. But it sounds like it will still be amazing and I'm now filled with hope that it will end up in a manual, RWD, luxury coupe destined to become a legend. It should look beautiful next to my (non-manual) RC-F.
Mazda is going 6 cylinder engine and most other brands are going 4 turbo in their bigger suvs. Love that Mazda is doing this unfortunate that I just got an Mdx 8 months ago or I would highly consider this when it comes out.
Trade it in haha
Acura will give you a lot for your MDX, there is a shortage
@@KirkKreifels if it makes sense money wise and I like the Mazda I will. I love my Mdx aspec though. I was originally getting a cx9 signature until I saw they were redesigning it and it had a 4 turbo.
@Michael B mazda is better refined imo atm. There was a period where it was opposite.
Well said Mazda means business a v6 or in-line 6 is a much in a car that will weigh 4,000lbs+
Exciting and I love the reveal videos Mazda has been putting out on their UA-cam channel. Can't wait to see the new video this week!
Mazda needs to bring back the Mazda 6 Wagon......yup you heard me. Step it up Mazda
I would love to see them use this engine modified for truck use and bring back the B Series pickup trucks. Inline 6 are great truck engines and combined with a significant hybrid system could make for a torque monster mid-sized truck.
Something to keep in mind though is that the L6 will be less strained than the L4. With seven main journals holding the crankshaft in, and naturally balanced forces the L6 should be structurally sound. If these come in at 40k or lower, my wife and I already plan on getting one.
While I think they’ll be very interesting I doubt they’ll come in under 40. Maybe when dealer discounts come back though
Current CX-9 Touring (entry level) is in the very low $40s so no wat this is even less expensive than that. My educated guess is mid/high 40s up to $59,999 for whatever is analogous trim wise to a CX-9 Signature.
They will not be anywhere near 40k. The CX5 turbo is at 40K and this is a much larger, more luxurious, and heavier vehicle with more cylinders and a hybrid energy recovery system. You are looking at $50K minimum for this new beast and possibly well over $60K for decked out versions. But I think the goal here is that all versions will be pretty decked out. I am not expecting like 7 trims as you have on a CX-5.
When is that going to happen?
I think they are happy producing less vehicles now and charging full MSRP and beyond.
Global collusion.
From what I saw that motor is only in the absolute top of the line 9. And will cost 60k range.
Nice! And while those lower output specs you covered bf sounded meh it probably will help with reliability. Wondering if that lower state of tune requires 93 octane. And GREAT MUSIC to play us out! Deep 80s japanese city pop/urban night drive vibes! Jammin
Please Mazda give us the car America wants 50/50 weight balance the last hurrah. For the combustion engine. 🚂. Rear wheel drive. Monster 💀.
I'm excited for the cx70. Bern holding off getting the cx5 turbo for this one
I had the 4.9L In-line 6cyl in my 82, 96 F150s as well as my 96 Ford Bronco.
They didn’t have a lot of hp, but they had a Ton of Low End Torque, which is why I bought them.
Put them in 4WD and “Granny Low” and they’d go Everywhere and climb up anything I needed it to do.
An In-line 6cyl engine has 40% Less moving parts in the engine over any V6.
An In-line 6cyl is slower than a V6 or a V8, but once you’re up to cruising speed, they’d run for 4-500K+ miles easily.
My 82 with the 4.9L and a C-6 (3spd) automatic transmission and a 2 barrel carburetor got 2more mpg than my 96, 4.9L with a 4spd auto transmission and multiport fuel injection. The lesser fuel economy was due to all the Smog Crap. So at the end of the day, the 96 F150 was less fuel efficient bc the government in all its STUPIDITY, said that it was better for the Ozone layer.
Just pathetic !
I wonder if there interchangeable
@@josewaldron6792 my 82 had a 2 barrel carb and my 96 was multiport fuel injection, but other than that, yes they were the same engine
I love the idea of a Mazda I-6 (esp co-developed with Toyota/Lexus). Can't wait to see how it drives.
wow, I am super happy for Mazda! I truly enjoy the way they reveal this car! Oh boy, I'm really curious about how the engine and exhaust sound...
Currently enjoying my 03 Lexus IS300 2JZ, always been a massive fan of Mazda I hope we get this inline 6 in the UK.
Inline 6s are wild, not going with a V6 is an interesting choice
I had a Ford F-150 with the 4.9L In-line 6cyl.
Ford said that they had to stop producing it bc it created too much emissions, yet BMW and Mercedes Benz didn’t have any trouble at all.
Those 4.9L In-line 6cyl would easily get 400-500K miles.
Shame on Ford
Celebrating ICE…🎉
Would love to see those horse and torque numbers in the six or the three. A very “cool”coupe/hatchback.
Zoom-Zoom.💪👍
This is just simply great news! Do you know anything about interior space? Will this compete with a Highlander or the Grand Highlander? Love the outro music!
will likely be more highlander sized on the inside, seeing how cx60 is cramped inside.
Man this thing is gonna rock, and I can't wait to see the 70. Sadly they'll probably be too expensive for me and I'll have to settle for the 50.
Actually the 3.3L i-6 NA engine with 282HP would be my choice for CX90, considering it gets 35+ MPG. Compare this to the Honda Pilot's 3.5L V6 with 285HP that gets only 22MPG combined, the CX90 would be a much better choice for frugal consumers.
From what I’ve seen, there are only 3 powertrains available for the CX-90, and none are naturally aspirated
Edit: my mistake. the PHEV is naturally aspirated but it’s a 4 cylinder, and not inline 6
@@matikalt1243 Yup I realized that too. Too bad CX-90 doesn't have a non-PHEV 3.3L i6 NA engine offering. If it does it will be far from the 280HP of the entry level turbo version. That makes you appreciate Honda Pilot's 3.5L V6 with 285HP.
@@martincstee5335 good point
I6 RWD mazda6 would be a dream come true
Looking forward to your coverage on the 31st. Will you be asking Mazda about a new 6 or coupe on this platform? I read in an earlier interview with a Mazda representative that the platform would not be suited for a low style vehicle like a 6 or coupe. Do you think there might be a chance of a 6 ‘outback style’ maybe? Or maybe the representative I mentioned is wrong (which I hope) I would definitely buy a 6 with an inline 6 and rearwheel drive. I own the current 6 2021 model and it’s absolutely terrific.
I hope the maintenance is as easy as the 2.5T. That engine just needed an extra highway gear for 85mph and it would have been a gas sipper
I-6 powered rear-biased AWD Mazda 6 with a 6 speed manual would be a DREAM
That CX 60 has a kind of Alfa Romeo Stelvio/ BMW X3 vibe, hopefully they can carve a little niche for themselves in that market.
Yay Mazda! Not ditching the petrol engine! Hopefully they make a Mazda 6 with it or maybe mazda60
An inline 6 in a new 6 coupe would be a dream, we can dream can’t we?
Been waiting for a plug-in hybrid family car to replace my wife’s old Suburban for a while, and as a big fan of Mazda, this might be it… Looking forward to your coverage on 1/31.
Hopefully it actually gets put in a car instead of an suv, since they discontinued the mazda 6, not sure if it would fit in a 3, hopefully a concept car coupe is coming out. That would be insane.
Didn’t Lexus stuff a run-of-the-mill V6 in their Lexus IS for quite a few years (and initially a JZ motor) with later F sport models literally getting a V8- INSIDE OF A COMPACT CAR?
Sounds moreso like Mazda doesn’t wanna put such power in their humble little 3 when they can make people buy yet another of their same crossovers (and charge more too).
@@schwenda3727 inline six's are much longer then v6 or v8's. You can't put an inline 6 in a compact car and still meet strict crash and safety regulations without extending the hood like the bmw's. The Mazda 3 doesn't have a long enough hood/body to fit the inline 6 and still retain all other functionality. They'd have to built a new chassis to do it, maybe in the 6.
More excited about lightweight and efficient. Can we plz get a small hatchback that's based on the Miata??? When gas prices gets taxed out of existence, it's the lightweight dedicated ICE that'll survive and keep their value. If it has daily utility along with sportiness...win/win
This power plant would really only make sense in the smaller CX-70’s if it’s performance you’re after.
Just imagine an RWD 3-row crossover driven by a relatively large displacement inline 6 with an 8AT....hope Mazda adds that option to its lineup.
I have a mazda 6 signature and the car has been reliable, fit and finish is amazing. Interior material quality can rival and Audi. I am digging the new cx90 and considering it for the near future.
I KNEW IT!!!! Mazda had previously commented it will be tuned differently than the cx-60 on their Instagram page.
Spirit racing variant with 400hp? Let'ssss goooooo
@@KirkKreifels there isv8 swap miatas, tires are limiting, or maybe a inline 3 version because electric turbo scavanging with would make linear correlation of sound power with driver input, low emissions will have it last long as legal to sell in market, c8 and aston tubro sounds 90 percent as good as naturally aspirated. also need hydrallic steering to communciate how close to grip limit it is, feel the speed. .. maybe lotus emira or gma t43 can sell their system to other companies?
A stretched MX-5 with this engine would be good!
Im glad Mazda made torque figures close to hp. This engine might like to be ringed out!
If they bring the Mazda6 Wagon back to the US with this I-6, I'm giving up my 4Runner the next day
I’d like to see Mazda come out with a wagon similar to the cx9(or cx90, not sure). Rwd/awd i6 dct or manual. Be super awesome if it happened
Would LOVE to see this powertrain in the Mazda 6... But, honestly, I don't dare get my hopes up. I've been waiting for the return of some sort of performance sedan from Mazda for a long time, but after all these years I don't know if it will ever happen. ☹️
Sounds great! It'll be really sad if the new 4R go to a turbo four while the CX90 gets this.
Glad to see Mazda putting our some good new vehicles
Your predictions for the engine outputs were totally off the charts in your previous video....
"Dont expect it in a miata"
Do you even understand the miata community? 😂 even if its not in one from the factory, its going in one.
The second one of these engines ends up in a salvage yard somewhere. Guaranteed someone will do it.
I am waiting for a new Mazda 6 with AWD... still driving my 2004 6s and still love it.
Mazda 6 AWD would make me happy , love my 2010 Mazda 3 Hatch 78,000 miles.
You always give the good news
Called in your November video 😊
Mazda 6 with inline 6 and a manual option I’d put my order in today!
Just wondering what car rev sound is that at the start? (0:19) I that a LFA?
So no NA inline 6 with a hybrid system?
Like im tryna have 33mpg in a cx 90
I have a CX30 but would love to see this new engine in an all wheel drive sedan or coupe. 😎
I can’t find any info on this 3.3L inline 6. Wondering if it’s Open or closed deck. Bore and stroke. also the dimensions and specs of the turbo or turbos used.
Do you know if it will be direct or port injection? Or both?
You forgot the Barra being up
There with the 2j and RB !
I was shopping at the Mazda dealership in Wesley Chapel FL two weeks ago to trade in my BMW 435i with inline six and Merino leather. If they'd had the inline six in a MAZDA6 or Mazda3, I would probably have bought one. Instead I bought a Mustang GT with a manual transmission. I liked the CX-5 and CX-50, but I'm not really the crossover or SUV type. Mazda is a bit out of the mainstream too, which is a good thing. They have very high-quality vehicles and nice leather interior, so maybe I'll trade in my Mustang for a Mazda some day if they can put that six in a sedan or sports car. A six-speed manual would make it complete!
330 HP from a 3.3 L inline 6 + Turbo , the European and American brands are definitely impressed.
Mazda6 wagon with this powertrain please 😮💨
I'm the proud owner of a 2015 Mazda 6 and hopefully soon Mazda will come out with a new rear-wheel-drive mazda6 and I would be the first person to want to take a test drive and and purchase one. This is the only application that I would be interested in and I'm hoping and praying that a rear-wheel drive Mazda 6 welcome either has a 2.54 or a 3in line 6 model. Please Mazda make this HAPPEN!!!.
All I can think of is the tuning potential and or south of bigger turbo on there with the standalone what will happen
I hope it comes to Australia and is used in the Mazda BT50 dual cab. Unfortunately as the Mazda is basically a rebadged Isuzu I doubt it very much.
Love to see more ultra efficient in-line 6 engines in commercial vehicles instead of the turbo diesel’s with their carbon buildup issues.
this is dope news. now i’m hoping for more news on the cx-70. i know we have to wait for the cx-90 to get revealed, and then hit showroom floors, i’m just an impatient kid.
‘Dope news’?
How old are you? 12?
@@richardmichael59 “dope” has been around since the late 80’s / early 90’s, maybe even before then. it’s an old fogy word now.
Now I just need to put this engine in my Mazda 3 turbo and it would be great
Every Mazda I’ve owned has been solid reliable and fast. Id like that 6cylinder
Nice to see another straight 6 from Japan
Mazda limit the power output to make sure transmission and differential last longer for home use where people will NOT change transmission fluid and filter until car dies, and also tow heavy stuff.
Mazda has been underrated for many years. Their joint ventures with Toyota has helped them tremendously.
So much better with Toyota than when they were with Ford.
This was to be expected. The NA market cares more about power than other aspects on an engine, hence why the 3.3 for the NA market is more powerful. You boo'ed a bit early with the previous vid on the 3.3 where the specs for an other market were announced (with different needs like long-term reliability than power). Wonder how the reliability will be on this boosted engine (better than other brands because we all know Mazda). I am very excited about this engine thoo, wonder what it's going to sound like!👀🤩
I wonder exactly how efficient skyactiv X four bangers would be if they brought them to the American market; something I’m shocked wasn’t announced last minute by Mazda simply given the CRAZY HIGH gas prices these past several months… barely February and it’s quickly approaching $3.50/gallon averages all across Mid-America.
The only thing I can take from seeing this video is that now I know what I can potentially swap a mazdaspeed6 with :D
I am partial to an inline 6 but the 3.6L V6 Chevy puts in Camaros is naturally aspirated and 335 HP so not sure what the big deal is. It is 5 more HP and about 80ft-lbs more torque, am I missing something?
This I6 would be great in the CX-50.
I own a Mazda 3 and have been looking to buy an upgrade. I want one of these in the Miata. I would buy one hands down.
Mazda could have had me with a third vehicle, if we were able to get the CX60. The CX5 is looking dated and I had high hopes for the CX50, but once released I didn’t like it at all. The CX90 is intriguing, but I do not want 3rd row seating or a vehicle that size.
I was really hoping the CX5 was going to get some premium updates like the CX30 when it was released, but everything went to the CX50, of which I just don’t like aesthetically.
The CX5 is almost there. I really love the looks of the CX60, which gives me BMW vibes. That’s always been the plan for Mazda for working on 2 decades now.
CX70 is going to be a sweet ride.
Speaking of of Mazda transmissions I liked my 1988 Mx-6 manual 5 speed
Mazda , under the Eunos banner , DID in fact make a 6 quite a while back . A 1.8 litre V-6 . Spun like a Turbine .
No i6 gas only, dang! Anyways, I expect north of 50k starting price.
I hope its as tuneable as the 2jz. I'll be buying one if so.
You never even seen a 2JZ 😂
Mazda has done an m50b25 from 1993. Down to the angle the location of the alternator ac compressor and ps pump. 😅
Bring me a sedan or coupe and im in..!! Im so over the crossovers. This same tech but on the mazda 3 with 2.5 turbo would be awesome too.
Hoping for decent tow specs.
Yes, I want to see 6000-7000 pounds.
Forget the sedan Mazda 6! the Wagon is where its at. I hope my last ICE is a 6 speed manual wagon with the inline 6 setup. That would be a car i'd never sell.
an inline 6 powered Mazda coupe would be bad ass.
Sucks we cant get the cx50 in right hand markets.
Imagine that with a longitudinal straight 6. Manual. All wheel independent suspension.
Functional vents.nice
I would love the I6 in the CX-50!
Can it bang limiter?? I need an engine for my e46 drift car.
Mr Kreifels, have you hiked Mt. Sneffels?
Mazda, great engine. Now please.... please for my enthusiast breaking heart. Shove this beast into the Mazda 6, Twin-turbo it, grant it Rear-wheel biased an AWD with both Manual 6 Speed/8-10 Auto, Sun/Moon Roof, Sporty Leather Interior, sporty exterior or sleeper design, do those things I'd sleep outside the dealers in my current car for trade-in and a duffle bag of cash ready to buy.
