Finally, all I was trying to do was clear up my confusion with identifying the difference between a standard strut replacement (one that already has its own spring seat) versus these cartridge type replacements. I assume they phased this out in newer cars? I'm trying to replace the struts on my 1986 Toyota Camry, and already bought the proper struts online, but was confused as to which set was which and how the cartridge fit. Thank you, all the other videos I watched didn't show a cartridge strut nor mention the different types.
On this replacable cartridge type system, you only replace the shock absorber itself wich seats inside the strut assembly . the strut ,the spring, are kept if still in good shape. They are often used on "imports" cars, and was popular in the 80's 90's as i know like saab, volvo etc... the spring seat is welded on the strut cylinder(or shock itself) in any cases and systems. seen all the pressure it has to handle manufacturers don't let peoples mess with the spring plate.(except adjustable struts where the spring plate is just threaded plate screwed on the strut itself) image.superstreetonline.com/f/49383948+w+h+q80+re0+cr1/sstp-1303-04%2Bcoilovers%2Bthreaded-body-design.jpg
