- For 2021 Honda have introduced the Civic Type R Sport Line with tamer looks and more standard fit toys in the cabin. Many potential buyers just couldn't live with the wild looks of the regular Civic Type R but will this Sport Line version bring buyers back to the showroom and is it a GR Yaris rival? Let's find out..

I daily drive my 2021 Type R and run it at Sebring and Daytona for track days. I also have a 2020 Cayman GT4 and find I spend about 3 times more time in the Type R due to it being so practical and comfortable. I may in the minority but I think the Type R looks awesome. I’m 55 years old and have owned a 308GTSi and an F355 so I’m not a stranger to good looking cars, I guess beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.
It does , people who moan are people who like everything to look gray and dull
I agree with you that it's an awesome looking car👍
Indeed mate, indeed
I also love the look - I have a black one
When are you in the mood for morning drive through nice local road which would you choose? :) I own 2021 and love it. Had a chance to spend a day with GT4 PDK and it’s the best sports car I driven. Ps. Honda helps me with kids and weekend trips.
This is why this channel is for real car/motor people.
Even though this car is in no way fits my needs and definitely not on my potential purchase list, I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and learned a few things.
Great review.
I agree, I would never buy a car like this - I'd borrow one for a few days though lol (I tend to buy nicely torqued V8/6 front engined, rear wheel drive sleeper sedans) yet it's a cool hot hatch and Harry presents it well.
It’s the first car that needs a body kit that removes all the fins and vents.
You're right, basic Civic looks okay.
Lol
look like gundam
These cars from this era, in 20 years time will be remembered as the most ugliest design of cars in history of car making.
@@writenamehere0000 agreed - none of these will be fondly remembered as a classic design. They’re ugly now and will be ugly then.
Well I like the looks, especially with the big wing. On the road they stand out and makes the car more unique and easily identifiable.
Had one 2+ years and I’d say that’s a very fair review. A shame so few people will drive one because of its looks, because behind the wheel it’s superb. So easy to live with too, which probably isn’t what people expect. As a bonus they’re holding their money well too.
+1 to that, mine is with 10% more than I paid for it 6 months ago! For better or worse, they're definitely a rare site on UK roads compared to the usual German hot hatches.
@@shred-ed303 I know, it’s amazing isn’t it. I bought mine new and it’s lost less than 10% (maybe even 5%) of the price I paid over 2 years ago.
@@mikewhitehead50 we're in the money! all profits going to my Nissan GTR fund, estimated purchase date, July 2041.
They just look so tragic and desperate if youre over 25 though.
@@simonlloyd7557 case in point.
"So.. what type of sport aesthetic details should we go for?"
"Yes"
For the record, I'm only watching these "latest model" vids to finance Harry's 3-on-the-go RestoMod habit.
...He requires no finance. Get on with your weekend.
Definitely different viewers out there, some love the new stuff, some love the old stuff, some love both!
😂
Pretty much. Here for the old stuff and the manual transmission rides
I love them all, started my car ownership life with classic cars - got tired of all the money and time I was pouring into them, got married, had kids etc and so moved to modern cars - still have a massive soft spot for classics.
Owned the version that this is a facelift of for 2 years (67 plate) and 30k miles and really couldn’t fault it for the whole time I owned it. The looks are dodgy, but honestly it drove so bloody well down a good road it just didn’t matter. If you care about driving and want a practical hot hatch, I wouldn’t look anywhere else. I agree with Harry, I think it looks better with the bigger wing to be honest, don’t see the point in this version. I only got rid of mine because I needed more space with a dog and baby!!! Would love to have one again.
Honda are the best, reliable and awesome
Ah, Dog and Baby - yeah I've been there too, well not the dog but the babies. I don't think I could own one of these as I do like to own a car that I look back on at the car park and it makes me smile a little, not cringe - but I understand what you are saying, driving is the best bit.
Just got my second one yesterday. A 2017 CW. My young kids love it. Wife enjoys driving it. Wins all round.
Get a smaller dog and give priority to what YOU Care so you can have another Type-R. 😉
One dog and one baby can't be reasons to sell a civic.
Proof that Type R’s get you laid.
If you take off the auto blip on the downshift, you can get a feel for how light the flywheel is on these cars. That was one thing that stuck with me after driving it. Not many modern cars have light flywheels
Also prefer the styling on the Type R. Will be interesting to see if they sell any of these
and this comment comes from someone who knows his Hondas and Type R's with it. :)
Lies
dannydc2 watching harry's garage? my day has been made
Absolutely a true comment. The light flywheel is missing on all new cars.
@@ricowswave1324 The FK2 has a dual mass flywheel but the FK8 went back to a single mass according to Honda. It's not as light as the old non-turbo flywheel (those were 5kg on the FD2 and FN2 Type R), but rather it's around 8-9kg IIRC.
I'm here in the US and I am a proud owner of a 2019 Honda Civic Type R (pre-piped in sound and leather steering wheel). Our Type R only comes in one trim which is the "Touring" or the "GT" over there. This is my second "British" sports car. I used to own an old MG and really miss that car. I really love my British made Japanese car with the engine from the US, big wing and all. This is not only one of the best cars I have ever owned, it is one of the best cars I have ever driven. The 6 speed manual in it is sublime. The complete package makes for one incredible "family" car and has made a car enthusiast out of everyone in my family, including my wife. This is also one of the few cars I have owned that as appreciated in value so quickly. My car is worth more now than when I bought it new. I'm not doing anything to it but driving it, keeping it cleaned and well maintained. No crazy modes here just all Honda OEM parts. On the eve of the electric future and the rarity of the 6 speed manual, this car is a permanent member of the collection. Thanks again for the video and keep up the great work! Also it doesn't hurt that is it a Nurburgring world record holder :)
Minus the fake vents, a lot of the things you rant about are functional. The middle exhaust is there to keep the exhaust level acceptable at lower rpm. The vortex generators (the pointy bits on the roof) direct airflow to the spoiler, thus improving its function and the extended wheel arches have that shape to smooth airflow along the side.
Unlike many other GTIs this car has actual real aerodynamics, which is one of the reasons it absolutely KILLS on tracks.
damn that was exactly my reply
It still looks horrid
@@67philipo if you want a car to pose at the red lights, get an Audi or BMW. Such has never been the purpose of a type-r.
So glad you mentioned these facts!!! Thanks!
Excellent reply. I think Harry overdid the criticism on the first part of the video and it wasn't all warranted.
Y'all need more inner 9 year old in your lives. I love the current R
Great honest review. I have a 2018 Type R with the big wing (complete with the carbon pack). I love it and there is not a time I drive it without a huge smile on my face which is really all you can ask. Its practical (have my 2 kids seats in the back and they love Daddies 'race car'). I understand the looks are a challenge for some (maybe most) personally I think it gives it character and kids love it when they see it so perhaps it helps the next generation of petrol heads which we will need to keep interesting cars on the road.
Nice review Mark.
unfortunately, the next generation of petrolheads will not exist, in a world of heavy, dull, electric, self-driving, 100 mph maximum artificially limited speed.
This whole car/petrolhead thing will end with us.
“Just play tunes on the gearbox”.Right on Harry.I totally agree with you .Nice legs(Engine) Shame about the boat race!”I worked at a Honda dealership in France ,in the. Mid 90’s until 2001.I loved having a VTI FIX every morning taking out the cars that I prepared for sale, testing them and getting petrol for them, that sound”Music” is still the same today! Thank you Harry I love your videos. That Honda Intégra Type R 190 hp model in 1996 was excellent.I remember we sold our “In Stock “Model to a famous multi millionaire family, who asked my Director to deliver it to them one Saturday afternoon.Which ,he of course duly did!
The golden years...must have owned 20 90’s Hondas.
One of my favourite shots is from the side glass camera, when you open the door, hop in and close it. Its a great arc that gives you a good interior insight.
Great review, and agree completely on the outside.
All the people watching a petrolhead UA-cam channel and judging a performance car based on its looks.
You need to stop shaving your chests.
Drive the thing. It’s excellent.
Haha, you’ll hook a few with that. Looks are a critical component of any car, this thing is a dog’s dinner. No one is denying its critical acclaim, they are just laughing at its appearance. You can tell everyone you love you ugly wife because she’s special but everyone knows you’d rather have a special one that looked great too.
I want my car to look good and to drive well. I don't want to be embarrassed if anyone sees me getting into it. None of that fakery makes it go any faster.
Yes, why don't Ferrari employ their janitor to design their cars instead of Pininfarina?
@Joshua Rosen Everyone complains all cars look the same, wind tunnel designed cars. As soon as someone tries something different its rubbished for doing so. Cant win. I think it looks amazing, hence I own one. The golf and yaris are meh...
@@Brookspirit The last Ferrari designed by Pininfarina was the F12. Which was probably the last good looking one. Maybe they gave their janitor a promotion?
I used to own the previsous generation R (the Egg shaped FK2) and it was the best car I ever had in terms of combination of racing and daily use. I miss it. Most of the "fake" vents are not as fake as you think when you find out what they were intendet for before they got blanked off for homologation/emissions reasons. Most of them can be opened even to get their function back.
I've normally reserved tastes but really like the look of this, and the standard R. Enough character and talent to pull off the daftness.
An opinion from Islamabad - Bradford, Rochdale, Leicester, Luton..........................LOL
Thank you Harry for vocalizing what I've been thinking about these the whole time
I've never heard Harry complain for longer about a car than he did in the first 7 minutes of the video. He has a point though
Nah, at this point all of the car journalists are trying to continue the Yaris hype going because let’s face it we got all worked up about something which in the end amounted to nothing so to keep the resale value they need to put everything else down 😄
@@Avto28 Ah right, I forgot the guy that owns multiple supercars needs to prop up the resale of his hot hatchback...
@@Avto28 Or maybe people buy cars because they genuinely like them...
Also someone with a 30 car garage isn't sweating the depreciation on a Toyota hatch
@@cam2792 You’re think That but his constant dealing with super cars and inability to keep and maintain a modern Ferrari or even that Pagani he used to own both notorious for their upkeep costs especially when trying to maintain their resale value, points at a person who can be on a frugal side of things. On top to that most of the media are beginning to look like clowns now that Yaris was not homologated well not it the GR guise anyway and the performance looks to be below of some of its competition on top of all the sacrifices already made for the sake of going faster in the first place 🤷🏼♂️
@@cam2792 Like I said non of them are current Ferraris or anything like that. requiring astronomical upkeep and maintenance costs even when sitting in the garage. While it’s a great collection it’s certainly not a collection where money is not an object.
As a Honda fanboy I'm chuffed that his lordship liked the CTR although surprised as to why it's taken so long to review it. Also surprised as to why you didn't get the GT LE in to review. Not much I can say about the looks. I detest the fake vents but you made a good point in that some markets love it and let's be honest, it's all about the US market for Honda where they are huge, not only with Honda products but also Acura. Maybe as a fanboy my opinion is coloured but apart from the fakeness I really don't mind it.
The GT apparently is the only hot hatch that creates downforce but I don't know about the sport line model with the lower wing. The bits on the edge of the roof are vortex generators and help in creating downforce on the GT model by directing air to the wing. Evo actually named this their track car of the year one year. The conditions were awful with very heavy rain which helped the CTR but they said you cld drive it in the wet almost like you did in the dry, the turn in was that good. The middle exhaust is there to get rid of resonance and boominess which occurs at certain revs
The sport line model was built to tone things down and they reduced the wheel size and gave the tyres a higher sidewall to ease off the ride. It also helps in preserving the wheels which can get damaged by pot holes. They also stuffed extra sound deadening in the wheel arches to make it quieter which has obviously worked based on your comments.
In time this may be the car for me. Great chassis, best manual gearbox in the business bar none, good steering, decent ride, seats and practicality. The best compliment I've read is from Evo who said "If Porsche made a hot hatch, this is what it would feel like."
Me too! Just got my second one. Had a 2019 CW now a 2017 CW.
not sure, but I think Harry is the only reviewer who does sound level stats, quite helpful
Savagegeese does that also. Agree it's a nice detail
Yet I have found his recent test drives to be very noisy - I simply cannot hear much of what he's saying while driving. Anyone else notice that, or is it just me?
The only guy who didn't giggle up the rev range. Respect and subscribed.
The Last Civic Type-R Honda made that I liked was the FD2.
Apparently the exhaust system is designed with a purpose, the middle pipe does something akin to sucking air in at lower speeds to keep the noise at a socially acceptable level.
Edit - it’s for use at higher speeds to eliminate drone etc but I was on the right track 😅
Nonsense.
@@johnsmith1474 just what was said in a jayemm review
I heard it was to make the exhaust note less booming
I didn't know why but this is interesting. tl;dr it stops droning at motorway speeds without the complexity of valves

Right pipe: smoke screen

hi Harry, thanks for great video again! Interesting insights as always! Keep the video's coming ;)!
Shouldn't really be giving out about Honda's styling choices while wearing that shirt Harry 😄

“I hate false vents”.....you hide it well Harry 🙈🙈😂😂
I'm just reading between the lines here, but I came away with the slightest suspicion that Harry doesn't like vent fakery... 🤔🤣
i wonder what he thinks about the A90 supra hehehe
Agree that fake vents are eww but the new Supra exterior is one of the best looking sports cars today in my opinion …. Especially the back end I just wish it was their own and not a bmw 😔
@@simonsauter3229 Without BMW the mk5 wouldn't existe .
That’s a crazy idea why couldn’t Toyota one of the biggest car companies in the world build their own sport car … do you know how much bigger Toyota is then Bmw?? Lotus builds its own for Gods sake!
didn't really want one until i watched this video, ace as always Harry :)
Thank you Harry. It is so good to hear a reviewer comment on some silly design issues on a car. I have seen so many reviews where the design seems to be out there and the reviewer waxes lyrical about it. I too hate fake vents. Why bother?
There's two types of people in the world - those that love the outrageous looks of the standard Type-R, and those that hate it. This car finally unites the two warring factions - they both hate it. Well done Honda.
LMAO 🤣 Gold! Oh and so true!
In your mind …outrageous looks are cool…but not tacky …you either like mickey D’s ….or a handcrafted burger. Welcome to Tokyo trash.
Dearie me, fake vents are the absolute bane of me. Can you believe even the new 992 GT3 has fake vents in the rear bumper?? Such a shame.
Yes but fake exhausts that just add weight are even worse!!
@@rob_lightbody those exhausts are actually practical. When driving in city it will only open the middle pipe for back pressure. And when you rev it up those two other gates will open to increase the flow rate. If you don’t understand the engineering inside those pipes. Don’t judge it at all.
@@lemoncc2994 i understand that no inline-4 engine needs more than one exhaust pipe.

If cars were designed on what’s needed it would all be a little boring … it’s a exciting fast car and should look that way I love it!
Great video! You remind me of James May quite a bit - in the way that you present and put your ideas across. I love that you didn't let your views on the styling bias your experience either.
Excellent balanced narration from the main man
Thanks, Harry. Not looked at these before. Quite a different car than I expected, practical and exciting when you want it to be. May prefer this over a Yaris now. Looks not ideal, but given what a good car it is, I could live with that.
Harry just doesn't understand that the Civic is so cool it has to vent the bodywork 😎
Always a class act.
Thanks Harry from Dublin.
I love that Harry is venting about the vents
The Honda Civic looks incredible on Tokyo streets, elsewhere in the world hmmm not so much
everywhere else in the world it looks like..... a civic with a spoiler LOL
The new Civic looks like the BMW 6GT which you can’t get in the UK either.

Car design will always be subjective and I understand why some people might hate it, I for one love it… great video as always Harry
There are hints of Samurai armour in the styling.
Correct! Samurai armour has indeed been the idea behind Japanese styling cues for the last 15-20 years. It's particularly evident in the 'helmet cheek guards' around their radiator grills.
Well a bit of a helmet for sure.
@@timgosling6189 Interesting but only the Fiat Multipla is more ugly.
Plastic phony transformer/samurai armor at best.
Marketing BS.
One of the best Harry's videos! So authentic. I fully disagree with opinion about the Civic design and the rest is very true! Just put your right feet on the pedal and floor it hard!
Great video Harry. The tune that engine makes is just epic. I agree not fussed on all that pointless plastic.
I can't think of a "busier" design of add-on plastics although the new Corvette C8 comes close.
Good point.
Bad point, none of the design of the Corvette is fake applications of plastics, it's all functional. Try listening to what bothers Harry, it's not the doodads, it's their fakeness.
@@johnsmith1474 bad point
BMW 4 series? I guess it's more "snouty" than "busy"
I love Harry's reviews and I love the Honda Civic Type-R being an old fn2 generation owner, yes the looks of Marmite and it's an age thing some of us that like JDM cars that are designed with a samurai sword quite like it🤣 not everyone likes a dull golf. You have to applaud Honda for making a touring car with comfort, the engines are good because Honda are racing engineers and the whole design is to be Aerodynamic.
The end of the day this is a practical hot hatch, I've driven out and it's great to drive the only thing I would say is at fault if they should always have made it 5 seater and it would have been perfect in that respect. Looking forward to the Next Generation as well even though it's calm down a little bit I've always missed the Honda Accord and I think it's going to be similar. I like Harry reviewing cars like this at the end of the day it's a 35k car not a 200k car he's used to driving.
Eye opener. Appreciate the honest opinion.
I always enjoy your reviews Harry, including this one of the Civic Type R Sport Line. It's such a shame about the design of these cars given their superb performance and handling, at least you don't have to watch yourself drive by. There's no doubt that the last two versions of the CTR (FK2 & FK8, regardless of the trim level) have had faces that only a mother (with poor eyesight) could love. Hopefully there is yet one more CTR to come, a better looking version, for the model's swan song.
The fact that all the reviewers can criticise this car only on the matter of personal preferences and not actual facts is a great compliment to the car.
Another great video! I've actually cancelled an order for a GR Yaris to get a Sport Line Type R exactly as the one in the video. I'm going from a Mk7 Golf R manual to the Type R pretty much for all of Harry's positive views on the car although I can understand Harry's thoughts on the looks and design (I actually like the looks I just never liked the red seats of the GT or the red accents, I'd like the big spoiler though). I also got tired of waiting for the GR, ordered early Feb but no sign of delivery until May 2022! I test drove the GR twice and I'm sure for pure driving enjoyment it's better than the Honda but partly due to being a family man the Type R is a great compromise between the Golf R and the GR.
How does the civic compare as a drivers car? I have a mk7 gti and have been looking at the civic as well.
@@slickTurboS I've had the Civic for about 3 weeks now, it is a better drivers car especially the steering, suspension and engine. The Golf is better as an everyday car as the ride is better. I'd really like a mix of the two.
the gry was never designed to be a family hot hatch.. it is a fvecking rally car for the road. Too bad that you canceled yours but, then again, you cancel it and some other deserving petrolhead guy got one instead of you. Good things come to those who have the wisdom to wait.. goes a saying, right?

Thanks for the video mate!
Harry shouldn't hold back so much on his opinion of the exterior design 😂
🎯🤣
I agree with him, it looks tacky
Thanks Harry. I used to own an Accord Type R (ex-Penny Mallory, no less!) and I loved its purity of approach - all the things you really wanted were spot on: Wishbones, Recaros, Momo Wheel, lighweight glass, strut braces...As well as being probably the most fun car to drive I've ever owned, it was also practical and, crucially, it was easy on the eye. I've driven the Civic and whilst the driving experience and Honda's engineering approach remains commendably focused, I have to agree that the fiddly visual stuff would stop me buying one (plus the ridiculous deletion of the fifth seatbelt).
Great video as always Harry. Have to say i prefer this version to the " full fat" Type-R.
This is the most interesting channel on youtube. Been following it for years now. I was hoping one day you could sample the new Toyota Mirai fuelcell. It would be very interesting to see a comparison against an electric car. Thanks in advance Harry
I personally think it looks much better without the massive rear spoiler. I could consider this in black! It’s always been the best hot hatch, but the looks have ‘spoilt’ it ( see what I did there 😆 )… however, I think without the rear wing, it is more sensible. I like it, and could actually consider buying it 👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely love this car and I quite like the looks. I think I’d take the full fat Type-R over this Sport Line version. Shame they are no longer in production.
Agree. Don't get those people who drone on about the looks. Go and buy a generic boring looking euro rival. I would take the current CTR any day and a lot of the appeal is the looks which I think are fantastic.
I agree too. Here in Hong Kong I see enough Type Rs, and any Type R/ Euro R has big presence and looks aggressive especially for the era they were made.
Except maybe a DC5 where it looks a bit too rounded in the edges, but a Mugen Wing fixes it...
No one is 'droning on' - it looks terrible, end of.
That said, no one can dispute what an insanely capable car it is.
I'm only about 30 seconds in and I can already tell a great drinking game would be to take a drink every time Harry says "type ahrrr" 😁
The type r "concept" from either 2014 or 2015 was clean, with a hood line that dived down dramatically and looked fantastic. This thing has been an eyesore.
Obviously I can't speak for all Americans, but I think a majority of us think it's way too stylized, just as you do.
Not me. I love it so much I bought one and my car is now worth more money than what I paid for it.
Speak for yourself! I absolutely love it and I’d say most do as well!
I agree, I just love mine and thankful for this version. The Japanese will be vindicated in the end for this version of styling. It will go down in history as the most unique Type R ever!!!
Americans love fake

No, sorry. Still far too fussy styling. Lines everywhere, plastic sticking out.... Not a pretty car in any way.
Irl it looks much more toned down than in photos. To me looks a bit better with it, without it it looks like a sport
It still looks a Hodge Podge of a mess .
No it's hideous looks like a hot wheels car
Will watch this with dinner tonight, cheers Harry.
I am very pleased to hear your opinion on the Type-R.
While I prefer rally cars over touring cars, I think the "simpler" FWD approach is the correct one. What about a Megane RS next?
To be honest, however, I'd take a Fiesta ST over any of these in a heartbeat, especially if I had to pay the bills.
The 3 exhausts are actually functional and a clever engineering design that allows the engine to sound good at low speeds, but not drone at high speeds. There's plenty of info online about it. I do like this channel, but this was another stark reminder that Harry is just another car reviewer and by no means any kind of authority to talk on the engineering or technical details of the cars he reviews.
Thanks Harry, i love my regular Civic 1.8 auto it's a good daily driver.
Great review always been a massive honda fan had many s2000/civic type r best cars I've owned soooo much fun.since changed to the bmw brand as children arrived.
What I want to say is when you drive these cars and watch someone like Harry driving them see the smile on their face!! Isn't that what it's all about??
Have a look back at the review Harry, what do you think ???!!!!
Blimey Harry, that's almost a LKJ Setright level of design grumpiness.
I already thought it was OTT then I saw the steering wheel inserts.
he is the heir to LKJ, what a treasure he was, the Shakespeare of moto journalism
The steering wheel colour inserts are the same as old Italvolanti Sport steering wheels. :)
Unpopular opinion: the original version looks far better, we need such a crazy car that stands out. Still a fantastic car underneath and would love to drive one.
Seconded
Yep. Almost feels like a modern day GC8 Impreza/Evo 4-6 styling.
You gotta love Harry!!
I'd love to see you compare the GR Yaris to a Fiesta ST. Thanks for the great content too btw
The looks were a bit much for me but I like it for what it is. The new Civics are now on the road (to me looks like a cross between Accord and A3) so let’s see if Honda builds a Type R version of it.
At least you'll no longer look like an extra from The Fast and The Furious when you nip down to Diddly Squat Farm Shop Harry.
Absolutely just loving the variety at the moment HARRY 😊😊😊 hey? Any chance you could review some of the latest offroad motorcycles? THE DAKAR Series was just EPIC!!! , Kind regards ben from NZ
As I'm a Spec C Impreza owner I loved the review🤣
This is the first time Mr. Metcalfe didn't understand for which customer this car was designed. I'm fine with that, he will always be my car related hero.
For 17 year old who just passed their driving test?
I actually love the regular Type R with large wing. Unashamedly aggressive, purposeful, distinctive. The styling is one of things that would attract me and that's before you get to the drive. Looking at German hot hatches makes me yawn and feel sleepy.
It's very subjective. For me I like the looks of (some) German hot hatches, but hate the crappy engineering. The Honda here is the other way around, hate the way it looks, love the engineering.
@@Beer_Dad1975 For people like yourself that don't like the looks but like the car otherwise, there is, I guess, the option of waiting for the next generation model. The standard car which has just been revealed is an altogether cleaner, simpler design. But I imagine it won't be on sale until late 2022.
The Type R is an excellent drivers car.
@@jdmguy44 Yes it's looking pretty nice. Can't see I'll be buying a new car any time soon anyway as since I work from home I really can't justify it. Wife's is the next to replace and she'll need something larger than a civic.
When I sit inside and drive - I don't see exterior. And as you see - it imediatelly puts smile on your face
Well the new one is out! Would love to see your take on it Harry!😁
Looks better in Nighthawk Black in my opinion , which tones down the details a bit.
I quite like design faux pas. It prevents them from becoming cliches like the German cars - yawn. The Type-R is definitely my taste.
The bits on the back are probably vortex generators, they should reduce drag...maybe.
You're spot on there my friend as actually what I was going to say at least it stands out from a crowd in a car park unlike all the boring German rep barges 🤣👍
Still in love with it after test driving it 2 years ago
Great to have you reviewing some more affordable performance cars maybe try some supermini’s next, think we should all agree that fake vents/scoops are the most crass piece of car design.
These 19 inch wheels look so much better than the 20s with the rubber band tyres, it’s the silly wide arches that make them still look awkward. If they made a Type R that was actually good looking it would sell like hot cakes. Everything else to do with driving has clearly had so much care and attention taken with it, more than any other hot hatch. The seats, pedals, gear change, steering wheel, brakes, suspension, engine, all fantastic
if it was actually good looking it would sell like hot cakes? lol, you know how hard it is to find a type-r for MSRP? They sell extremely well.
@@brokentradgedy I’m talking about the UK market.
Hilarious mate its sold out world wide 🤣
The body is designed to help guide air flow around the car. There is a metal guide under the bonnet that sends air around the sides. The centre exhaust removes drone by controlling air flow.
The flat underside works with the diffuser to create the Venturi effect. There is also clips that act as guides near the calipers to guide air to the brakes.
You’ve looked at GR Yaris, Golf GTi and R plus the Civic Type R. You’ve gotta take a look at the Hyundai Veloster N DCT. Be very interested on your thoughts having driven all these cars myself too. Great videos as always. Keep it up 👍
Hi Harry, love all your videos, was hoping to get an update on the Lancia project?
I don’t like it when Harry gets upset. 😆
I keep worrying that a deer is going jump out of the tall grass fields and cause some major damage. If you've ever driven in any area where there are thousands of them, you know what I mean and how stupid they can behave.
Stupid deer huh? ... meanwhile we travel in tin cans faster than apes were ever mean't to travel.
@@P.Galore they’re not stupid. The road was built after the field. It’s the chance you take.
Harry get's upset, so punters don't have to. It's a good thing.
@@P.Galore tried that on a motorbike. 1-0 to the wildlife!
The car looks like it was designed by a committee who couldn’t agree
a committee of 12 year olds
I agree. The Type R, overall, seems to have been designed by "ricers", meaning poseurs. It's too bad because the underlying car is outstanding.
Well said and maybe non car people who just finished looking at and playing Forza 5🙃
A transformer with tourettes mid change from a robot to a tupperware party.
So basically if the Uk government made cars....... lol
I have the GT version and love the looks, although I do think losing the red stripes would look good. All the little nooks and crannies are a pain when washing. However, my god this thing is a beast in the road!
I love it looks included
