    THANK YOU!!! If I see ONE MORE JD Power award commercial about alllll these awards while MY NEW CHEVY is acting like a lemon, I’ll explode. Seriously. Just one more issue to go with loss of power, oil leaks, alternator/starter/battery issues all the way to a COMPLETE loss is power. Literally! I’m at a light thinking aw ok, the car is auto stopped as usual. The light turned green and I attempted to drive and I realized, the entire car was black. All screens, door lights, you name it. Every single tome I go to Chevy they say “Oh, nothings wrong. You have to bring it when it’s actually doing something or else we can’t read it on our computer and we don’t go off other computer read outs”. The car is finicky so it does what it wants when it wants. Great car but waaaay too new for all the headaches. I can’t get out my car for this shift issue. The car lights remain lit and it’s a whole problem. Thanks to the good ppl out there. I needed this video. Chevy needs to make recalls. This car is beyond me 😡🤯🥺

    • @tw4219

      Richard Bugarin If I remember, they said it was an issue with the pedal. Imagine that. They kept the car for maybe 3-4 days and I haven’t had that issue since. Only thing is, it actually has to be actively experiencing a loss of power in order for Chevy to do anything about it. Just a heads up, it’s not covered under powertrain and they’ll still make you pay for it even though they know it should be a recall situation. I was fresh out of my 3yr/36k warranty so all the bs I get from this car, I’m responsible for. The motor or trans is NEVER the issue.

      It looks like GM has a Technical Safety Buletin to address this issue and should be covered. Follow the link below to read about it. Also, in order to remove the cover, take off the rubber piece from where the wireless charger is and start pulling the trim off there. It should snap off, and then go around prying all of them off. Good luck.

    Thank you very much for the detailed views. That part is called a microswitch. This one appears to be made by Omron. Very common. Chances are the internal contacts are wearing, maybe from arcing. Maybe underrated for the application. Anyway if mine ('18 Volt) goes bad out of warranty I might just replace the microswitch.

    • @TheOzthewiz
      @TheOzthewiz 3 місяці тому

      The "problem" with a replacement switch (GENUINE Delco) is that it is made in Korea! What could possibly be wrong with that picture? If you could find an AMERICAN MADE micro switch that would fit, I would even go so far as to EPOXY it in place. I just would NOT trust a Korean OR Chinese part. I don't care if it says "genuine GM part"!!! Places like "Mouser" and "digikey" carry QUALITY electronic parts, IF you can make it fit! It WILL last forever!

    Thanks again for the video. I found a video telling me how to remove the trim panel. It also had the shift knob removal. However, I was able to loosen and slide the panel up the shift lever far enough to see into the shift control mechanism. I managed to pry off the little cover that hides the micro switch and access the problem tab. I made a tool by putting a slight (30deg.?) bend in the top of a 1/8th inch metal rod. I then used that rob place under the micro switch tab, for leverage while bending the tip of the tab downwards. (It sounds more complicated than it is). I did this because without completely removing the trim I found it difficult to get to it with pliers and also didn’t want to risk twisting the metal tab. Anyhow, bottom line: it did the job! No parts required, but I did get a few cuts and scratches from sharp edges in the trim panel. Thanks again! Great video! Easy and no-cost fix!

      I worked (I'm retired) on various pieces of electric and electronic equipment, and if the brand wasn't Cherry, an intermittent switch would be a bad switch very soon. It ain't just the "flipper', the internals just aren't up to even standard use. Bending will probably last awhile, but we need to know how to remove the console without breaking a bunch of plastic so when the time comes for a rebend, we can get in again.

    • @LygerTheCLaw
      @LygerTheCLaw 3 роки тому

      yeah i was going to say, he didn't even do anything in this video, many people would reassemble it and have the same issue. the problem really is the microswitch itself, so putting a bit more force on it may buy some more time, so a more proactive bend to the arm would be necessary. i also found that slipping my finger off the park release button gets the same result to get the vehicle to turn off for the time being until i can repair it properly.

    It just happened to my daughters 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. There is no excuse for Chevrolet using this type of cheap component. It's been going on with these shifters for years. It's this kind of nonsense that turns potential customers away from Chevrolet. For it to be going on for years in various Chevrolet and GMC models is obviously a deliberate build and ultimately inexcusable! It's not like Chevrolet and GMC doesn't know. This needs to be exposed on a National level.

      Artem Klimov So you did deny the diagnostic test? I just called they will charge me 150 for that and then for the parts and labor which is dumb.

      JESSE MOLINA the price depends on the state and town a lot. I’ve fixed it for $450 in San Jose (California) and skipped the whole diagnostic thing. Works fine now, one year later.

    I am planning to replace the "genuine GM " (made in Korea LMFAO) micro-switch. I have NOT had any issues, YET! But, I don't want to have to F**K around WHEN (not IF) the micro-switch acts up. I have a slightly different plan in mind. I am going to wire an "external" toggle switch in parallel with the micro. This way I can flip the EXTERNAL switch and get myself out of a "potential" jam!

  • @rosieski
    @rosieski 2 роки тому +1

    You can buy the little micro switch and replace it if you can solder very easy.

    Trying to fix this on my 2017 Malibu. That small plastic piece that covers the metal switch you adjusted. What’s the best way to take that off?

  • @w012rtb

    This problem happened in my fiance's 2016 Malibu. I followed the steps in this video and it didn't help solve the issue. So I looked up the whole shifter assembly instead and bought one for 90ish dollars off some gm wholesale part website. That was the trick. Takes a little more time to figure out but you are replacing the whole assembly so the fix will be more permanent.

  • @andrewjoseph7799

    My 2016 had it about 6 months ago.. and now again.. I bent the metal clip with a bic pen and the problem went away for like 6 months. It's been sitting a LOT lately since "STAY HOME" so I'd imagine it's kinda built in a memory. I agree GM should engineer this better and FIX IT.. some dealers are charging anything from $0 to $1,000 to FIX.. and a 2014 Chevy Camaro has a Radio issue.. popping noise then no radio except for XM the FIX for that was to pull the radio out and clip the white wire on the end of the plug that goes into the radio. it seems as though this problem occurs only on the low end models. Like those without a backup camera...it's some sort of communications wire.. my guess is it's designed for the rear camera and causes some sort of weird short via some program logic but IDK. Back to the Malibu.. I'll probably try a metal pen clip to stiffen the switch...All vehicles these days are suffering these dumb problems.. it's not just GM but they need to work on these issues for sure!!!!

    Yeah eventually you have to do something to that metal arm that contacts the button. I cut aluminum can to the same size as the arm and super glue 3 together and where it would contact the button I put a little piece of foam weather stripping with adhesive. Has worked for a year and a half like that now.

    maybe instead of bending it we can soldier on something to keep it from fatigue from bending it or risk breaking it. or maybe epoxy on a piece of plastic to thicken it up, etc.

      @juliamartinez 1st put the E brake on, then I lifted the cover where the gear shift is after putting the car in neutral. Then I bent the lil flat piece so it makes a connection properly. It lasted a long time, then i sold the car. Hopefully this helps you out. 😁
