The Omni pod or Omni slot is a mech weapon hard point that is designed for mounting any mech based weapon system of appropriate size or smaller (a 3 slot size weapon can fit in a 3 or a 4 Omni slot but cannot fit in a 2, no matter how much grease, force and bad language you use, it just won't happen), correct? In other words, if your mech has ballistic, missile and energy slots, the corresponding weapon system has to be mounted in it's designated slot i.e. LB__X/AC/ultra AC/gauss/machine guns must be fitted into the ballistic slots and SRM/MRM/ATM/LRM missile racks must go in the missile slots and small/medium/large {heavy/standard/ER} lasers/PPC/plasma weapons go in the energy slots but an Omni slot can mount any mech weapon system regardless of it's classification. So my question is: if a mech has Omni slots, why have standard mech variants? Such as the Timberwolf A, B, C etc. variants. I know the Timberwolf has fixed weapon slots (like it's "mouse ears" missile racks) but it also has it's Omni pods in it's arms (I forgot what the slots on the left and right torso below the cockpit are). They were literally designed to accept any mech weapon system (provided the slot is large enough). Interesting mech, shame it's one from the Green Chickens :P IIRC the fixed wing has been employed on a few other mechs, I'm thinking I've seen a picture of a Shadowcat or similar with one. Like it needed to be more jumpy...
I look at this mech as style of substance. The green gulls may have made a mech that is mobile, and can seem imposing as it uses its impressive jumping ability, but each of the designs are far to specialized. Just like all other specialized mechs, all you have to do is recognize the loadout. Once you do that, it will be easy to clip their wings. When you make a mech to look imposing, you forget that it has to back up the look with devastating force to remain imposing. Like the atlas did.
Don’t really agree. Running this mech is pretty simple. Jump pretty much all the time, stay out of minimum range. The prime is pretty general purpose. Clan ERPPCs have no minimum range, so they are just as effective up close as at long range. Punch big holes, search for crits with the HAG. HAG has a minimum range of 2, but the jump jets should ensure it’s never firing within minimum range. Alt-A is a short range powerhouse, but with a jump range of 7, it will close pretty quick. Alt-B is nasty at long range with twin gauss rifles, and even nastier up close with the improved heavy large and medium lasers. Again, jump jets ensure that it should never end up staying inside minimum range. Alt-C wants to close to Talon range, but can keep up fire all the way in with it’s ATMs. You have to be pretty mobile to try and kite it. Alt-D is sniper, so I guess you could try and stay out of LOS with LRMs. But again, only the gauss rifle has a min range, so getting close isn’t a great option. Alt-E warcrimes model is short range, but it has the supercharger and jump jets to get there, so… I’d honestly take any of these against an Atlas (of any vintage), and give a good chance of killing it with a decent pilot. The Atlas has similar or worse throw weight, worse mobility, but better armor. The Atlas will also have much harder time hitting any of the jumping variants.
Not me trying to fugure out how to bastardize jump jets and a partial wing onto a Wolfhound, completely ruining its straightforward nature and design philosophy. 🤔 "Jade Wolf was a thing for a little while, right?" "Please don't do this."
To give it it's fair shake I'm fairly certain that rasalhague was viewed as far more valuable by the lyrans and the cappies as a buffer state, because otherwise quite frankly what business does it have existing in the inner sphere and not out in the periphery where something like a democratic system would make more sense in universe
@bigred40k Sorry to bust your bubble, but on the Record sheet in RGIlclan 22, the Partial wing is listed as "1 Partial Wing RT/LT" and under heat sinks it has " Partial Wing +3 ". +2 jump and +6 heat dispersion would make Partial Wings way too broken. unfortunately. I love this machine though, as well as the Hierofalcon and the Ion Sparrow(Butcherbird), and since it says in Redemption Rites that the Dragoons took the best salvage from Terra, Pg54: "Weapons, armor....all the secrets the Wolves, the Jade Falcons, and the cooling corpse of the Republic possessed...." Therefore my SuperNova Binary is composed of Jade Phoenixes, Hierofalcons, and Ion Sparrows with the Dragoons logo.
@@BigRed40TECH true I did the same thing with the Shrike. I think that is what caused the problem. Shrike is listed as having RT and LT Partial Wings (plural). I believe CGL will fix that whenever Shrike is reworked in the RGIlclan books. Great Video though, I really like your work. *edit* Well, color me stupid. I apparently have 2 different versions of RS 3145 and the newest one has the Shrike with ONE Partial Wing spread across RT and LT. Oops. Damn. That's like my original RS 3085 CE that has the Karhu C stats on the Karhu Prime sheet. I need to check my sources better. Oh well, the world won't end. Now to go wash the egg off my face....😕
Okay so one of the newest mechs this time. I cannot take the Jade Phoenix seriously. Its rather lightly armed for an assault mech especially a Clan one, but also that its a copy of a copy. First there was the Turkina a 95ton assault mech for Clan Jade Falcon. It was quite good as jump equipped assault omnimech. Second there was the Shrike 95ton assault battlemech. That one added wings, talons, and a claw but its not an omnimech to fit the regression of the early Dark Age. It has less firepower but more speed and mobility. The Jade Phoenix seems to be a combination of those two. It has dual gun-arms rather than the claw the Shrike had, but its faster than the Turkina. Its basically a what-if you took the Shrike, traded out the ER Large Lasers for ER PPCs, replaced the Ultra-autocannons with a Hyper Assault Gauss Rifle, and totally removed the long range missiles. It overheats even with the partial wings.
100 years of occupation, and all we taught the Clans was how to kick with their BattleMechs. I do hope the Jade Falcons can regain some of their old nobility. I would honestly like to see them move closer to Aidan Pryde in temperament and thought than keep going the Malvina Hazen route. Vicious psychotic monster. Say what you will about Clan Wolf under Alaric, the Falcons under Malvina were infinitely worse. So glad she finally got what was coming to her, and most of her cult went with her.
Malvina is the natural outcome of staying true to original clan ideals in the IS, malvina before she became a monster was stripped of everything she cared even remotely about cause of it, her beloved was stripped from her in a horrible way and she hated world for it she saw free and happy people outside the boarders of her clan and she was stripped of that experience, she burns the world down for the clan teachs their warriors killing not about weaknesses like feeling or trauma, the clan made the monster that is malvina, it is deserved, if Aiden survived and watch his daughter die and later his wife you will see the same thing happen, people who lose everything died the moment it happened.
Those short and useless arms for physical combat I do not like at all, it is as if the designer believes that the mech will never be at the distance of another wanting to shake him and he has to dirty the actuators with that type of fight. At least in this mech, it does seem less likely to be caught in one of them, but it still seems to me an oversight on the part of the design team (there are worse ones, of course).
Ah, the clanners. Can’t win against a real mechwarrior so they have to grow mutants in tubes to do it for them, and build mechs that can be reconfigured to compensate for their inability to use their mechs effectively based on what they actually have… Jokes aside: it sounds like an effective mech, which of course it is because it’s a clanner ride. I still don’t like clanners though.

I’d honestly take any of these against an Atlas (of any vintage), and give a good chance of killing it with a decent pilot.

@@idiom2805 This is true lol
To give it it's fair shake I'm fairly certain that rasalhague was viewed as far more valuable by the lyrans and the cappies as a buffer state, because otherwise quite frankly what business does it have existing in the inner sphere and not out in the periphery where something like a democratic system would make more sense in universe

It's Kerensky Fired Falcon dude.

A mech with wings......wait a second, land air mech?
Nope.
Just misunderstood the reading of it. It's not much of a burst bubble.
And in a system where you kill your way to promotion why would anyone care about your ideals If you wind them battles and win your position

Can’t win against a real mechwarrior so they have to grow mutants in tubes to do it for them, and build mechs that can be reconfigured to compensate for their inability to use their mechs effectively based on what they actually have…
Jokes aside: it sounds like an effective mech, which of course it is because it’s a clanner ride.
I still don’t like clanners though.
Clan logic: that warrior is 25, he/she is too old to be useful in battle. We have the technological edge
Clan logic: Oh God, we got outsmarted by an old man with one eye, if only we had someone in a lance level that experienced enough to not run into a gun line/ambush.
