The main difference it makes in my experience is when you have the windows up but the roof off. It completely eliminated the wind buffeting which pushes into your head from above, which was strong enough to feel against your head and nearly deafening at freeway speeds. That being said, the convertible mirror extensions by themselves do a lot more to lower wind in the cabin than the hatch vent does when the windows are down.
Its not for the wind, its for creating less drag when the targa is removed so you don't lose as much acceleration ability. Rather than all the wind slamming in the back like a parachute it now has a spot to escape
I found the hatch vent really effective-I'm not sure it makes it any less windy, but it made it cooler, and to me, it made it somewhat quieter as far as wind noise went, but noisier because you can hear the exhaust more. The vent pulls air from the back of the car toward the front-if you have anything light-weight in the hatch, it will pick it up and funnel it between the seats. And if you leave the vent in overnight, and dew gathers on your car, when you drive off in the morning, you'll get a nice refreshing shower of water droplets hitting the back of your arms, lol. Also, if you get a little frisky with the throttle with the hatch vent in, the rear end gets squirrely at around 120MPH, at least in my experience.
Along with mirror deflectors hatch vent is awesome! You need both. My LT-5 long tubes and Corsa's just sing beautiful music. Tip: weld a sturdy wing nut on to head of the Torx screw. Paint it black. That's how it should have been made from the factory.
They are a bit hard to find ,but there are plastic fillers that go between the door mirrors and the ws frame. They have glue strips or you can rivet to mirror. They really cut that wind noise down. Especially above 70 with windows down. Mine were 30 bucks. I think Scorpio23 has a vid about them on his yellow car. Thanks for the C4 content and test.
Thanks for this suggestion! I had no idea those existed. I just ordered some aftermarket ones so I will make a test video once they come in. Thanks again!
Yeah those were installed on my C4 when I bought it and they are awesome. I don’t Necessarily like the look but it’s worth it for how much they stop the air from hitting you in the face
The difference in my 91' was like night and day. I would never cruise with the windows down or the top removed without one. The wind buffeting and noise was driving me crazy before. I bet it even improves gas mileage slightly by letting that air flow through. I'm in Florida also.
Wind, no wind, noise, less noise, North, South, crosswind, headwind... I am thinking that maybe there is an aerodynamic design necessity for the hatch to be shut properly. Besides the weather stripping wanting to head to Kansas, I am going to keep mine shut tight. That is an awful lot of 'sail' to be flapping loose in the wind. I can just imagine the right conditions that might cause the hatch to shatter. YIKES!
Notice the very end of her hair don’t blow around like crazy when the top is down and they have the spacer installed and the windows down compared to all the same but without the spacer you can actually see it
@@itsabouttime981 the car, I got a lady that I can't afford now.. Just have two 92 c4 in my area. One a coupe other a convertible. Both around 75k miles.
It was hot a humid here in Florida when I was trying this out. There’s no temperature difference even in the shade down here during the summer. So the answer is no, but I think that has more to do with the location than the vent.

“If you don’t look back at your car...”. AMEN, brother!!
Is that a left hand drive?
@@walterpeer9790 it’s mirrored image, not true image
Glad you posted this. Think I will skip that mod.

I like the vent. I think it helps move the air that comes in without having it circulate back through the windows
I really enjoy my hatch vent. But I have 6 speed and muffler delete. Sounds so good!!
Does it give more of a convertible feel than is the case simply by removing the Targa top?

I have used one for years, what I do find it helps with is venting heat, not much more.

Of course the hatch vent makes a difference . Just the fact that you purchased one makes Midwest Corvette more profitable .
I guess you’re right... it makes a difference somewhere. Haha

At 1:00 Ouch! Sick burn... Lol.. Just playing
Probably not buy one. Thanks for posting. I know a year ago but just bought a 93
How is it held up after a couple years of use?
Is his steering wheel on the passenger side I don't understand am I missing something
Using the front camera so it turns the image around.
doesnt it draw exhaust into the cabin?
Just a warning to everyone, these are made of pot metal and if you are lowered or have z51 you will eventually break these in half.
hatch on, windows up! big difference
Thanks for doing the test. Watching your wife’s hair, I can already tell my wife would respond the same way. I’ll skip this mod for sure.
Would it be rude on asking what you gave for her?
The girl or the car? 😂🤷🏼♂️
