    This car is so easy and cheap to fix, and nearly bulletproof as long as you take care of the normal maintenance!

      Are you kidding? Cheap to fix? I have spent thousands over the years to keep up my 1995 Coupe. Everything is expensive. Those speakers are $200.00 each and the radio overhaul will run you $500.00 and replacing the regulators will cost another $1,000.00 for a shop to do it...and the list goes on and on. This guy paid cheap for the can and now he can spend another $10,000.00 or $15,000.00 to get it in good shape.

      @@theaccountant5133 I would say that those prices are a bit... high. But relative to alot of other older cars from that generation the LT1 C4's are not super expensive to upkeep tbh. That being said, I have spent $15k on mine re building every part of the car. Everything is new/rebuilt at that cost. ~8k parts, 7k Labor. Running strong 20k miles past rebuild, no complaints.
      Also $200 each speaker? It cost me $500 to put a really nice 1000w audio system and a 10" sub in it. (Placed the sub in the hole next to the ABS/ASR Computer), That overhaul includes switching out the radio and adding front and rear camera's. $200 per seems very far off.
      Window regulators cost me $80 per.
      The most expensive unexpected cost was how difficult it was to get the interior looking nice. Sound deadening/New carpet/Fresh trim parts/Fresh door cards/Repairing the trunk cover/fixing the tilt pin issue with the steering wheel/repairing the LCD on the dash... ran me around $1k in parts but $3k in labor.

    I bought a white 96 a few months ago. Only 47,000 miles but the last owner only drove it less than 1,000 miles a year. Engine is strong, trans is fine, paint is good, Tires and brakes are fine, suspension good, drives like a low mileage vette should. But...My weatherstrip and belt moldings were beat so I replaced them. Car was filthy inside and out, under the gas filler door, under the back glass, door jams, etc. Oil leak from the valve covers gaskets replaced. Threw a code for the drivers side cat, replaced the o2 sensor, still have the code, cat is clogged. Interior is excellent and everything works, all the lights are good, radio is fine, I replaced the trim over the sight switches and the trim over the passenger side A pillar. Headliner drooped, fixed it myself, visors were shot, got covers for them. Replaced all the fluids, now I have some issues with the starter motor, it's being looked at.
    I figured with a 25 year old car that had been neglected I would need to spend up to half the purchase price again to get it to looking and running like a 47k mile car. That will still be less than what the dealers around here want for the same car. But this is my 5th vette and I wanted a cheap one since I'm retired and will likely only drive it a couple thousand miles a year. I couldn't justify anything too new as my wife and I both have fairly new cars and they don't get driven much.
    Anyway, hope this makes you feel better about what yours will cost. Good luck.

    What a beautiful C4. I picked up my 93 with 93k on her 2 years ago and she was beautiful and clean but…. Since I’ve :
    Refurbished gauges, replaced wheel bearings, replaced rotors /pads, new heater core, new radiator and condenser, bose rear speaker amps, water pump, opti spark, weatherstripping, led lights throughout, various inner body plastic bits and parts, chin guard, vats issues, fuel pump replaced, headlight motor bushing replaced, door ajar sensors, drivers side front window stop, rims and tires, and new blower motor along with general oil changes. Feel like I’m driving a 2020 93 c4 but she is healthy and I love her. Vette ❤️ Life.
    Ps chances are your under hood lights are just unplugged ;-)

      You said it. I have owned my 1995 for 27 years now. The engine, standard transmission and rear end are bulletproof. Everything else gets protectant spray and cleaned or it will rot. I have replaced everything except the opti-spark. When you can buy a C4 for $10,000.00 or less you can expect to spend another $20,000.00 getting it back to good condition.

    There is a 10 amp fuse for the under hood lights. It is in the lower section in front of the left front tire. It could be blown or missing. You actually take that fuse out if you are going to leave the hood open for a while. The owners manual discusses this and the location.

    The Check Engine light after warm up is an O2 sensor. It happened on my 94. Replace them. There are 3 of them. Cured the issue.
    The speakers need to be replaced but that’s a good thing. Modern speakers are way better than the 90’s tech.

    Nice Vette! Instead of a front license plate filler, you could get a “Corvette” plate, or get a custom one from a craft show with your name on it. Also suggest some premium license plate frames, chrome or gold-tone. I got the gold-tone on mine with plastic covers and they look great.
    Mine didn’t run as great as it should and I discovered that the air filter had probably never been changed. It is a big one and a bear to get in and out, but a new one made a big difference.

    What's wrong with the oil pressure gauge ?? It was reading and increased when you revved the motor? Seems normal to me. I've owned a 94 C4 since 97 and love it. Not sure what the problem is..... You bought the car this way and should have known these things before you put money down. They are all normal issues for a 29 year old car, if you want new then buy new. If you buy an older classic then expect some minor issues ! Hope you come to enjoy your great Vette more than it sounds like you do now !!!!!!!

    • @Seethenhagen
      @Seethenhagen 2 роки тому

      An engine at idle usually won't have over 40 psi of oil pressure, at least for most engines. The issue is that its reading massively high, probably due to a short in the pressure sending unit.

      Have you dropped the oil pan ? If there is gunk and gets sucked up the oil strainer it will cause the pressure to read really high or really low, and sometimes causes lifters to tap, it happened like that to my chevy work van when it sat too long.

    I have a white 96 that I've had for several months, now. It came with a Carfax statement that there were no issues with this vehicle. Well, I drove it about 40 miles, stopped at the post office, stated it up and the service engine light came on. Even though it had a Carfax guarantee, I found myself on my own when I contacted the sales person. Because of the high mileage (147k) he sold me the car for much less than other Corvettes that I looked at that may have had less mileage but in much worse condition. Here are the issues I had to deal with. 1. EGR valve. 2. Radiator. 3. Cruise control switch. 4. Low pressure sensor on air conditioner. 5. Windshield wiper motor. 6. Tire pressure monitor which I haven't fixed yet.
    For the milage, this car is very clean, dry, and shows very little ware.

    • @itsabouttime981
      @itsabouttime981  3 роки тому +1

      I have a code for EGR system failure. That’s what the check engine light was on for. I’ll have to run that down and see if its a vacuum leak or a valve not functioning correctly. Hope nothing is stopped up in the head! Enjoy your car. Half the enjoyment for me is working on it!

    Don't know how people can still be putting tops in the wrong way after 37 years of C4s... so obvious which way it goes. It has probably punched holes in your rear speaker covers already, and it would be deadly in a crash.
    The BOSE amps are about $5 to rebuild all four, that will solve that issue.
    Plug the under bonnet lights in, it is very common for them to be unplugged.

    Your speaker amps are bad. You can use the amps and if needed the CDMs from early 1990's cadillacs. Roughly 95 and earlier. They use the Bose Gold system as well. Also your top is stored in the rear compartment backwards. The rear of the top should sit in the brackets not the front.

    All typical issues for used C4's. For the lights its the gears in the motor drive for the lights. An afternoon of work and they will be fixed. Best to get the brass gears instead of the OE nylon. Senders for oil pressure are know to go weird. And the sun visors take a beating as they are not made that well from day one. Every C4 I have purchased the first thing I have to do is go online and order new ones. The radio - on mine the issue was the amplifiers attached directly to the speakers and they were bad. You have a newer model so I'm not sure if they use the same setup or if it's something with the head unit. Overall it looks like a good car.

    Headlight nylon bushings need replace. Easy fix. Instead of nylon bushing replacements, I use 5/16” solid aluminum bushing I fabricate. Bose speakers will require the amps to be rebuilt. The diodes leak which causes them to fail. There’s a guy in Florida that rebuilds them. Easy to get to on all 4 speakers on your model. None of the issues you’re showing are serious. These are really good cars, but just like all other cars that are aging, it will require attention from time to time.

      Bushings in headlight motor are Delrin standard production, NOT nylon! I replaced both of my powdered Delrin bushings with Nylon, easy fix! Do not replace the gear with the over priced Aluminum gear....

    All of the issues can be fixed relatively cheap. Except maybe stereo. Eckler's is going to be your best friend real soon. CHANGE TIRES!!! UNSAFE after 6-7 years. They deteriorate from inside. Look up what killed Paul Walker the actor from Fast and Furious. Hint 9 yr old tire blew out

    My low mile 93 had similar issues, typical 90s GM lack of quality. These cars were basket cases when they were new. I grew tired of chasing issues and happily sold it after a year. Before this car I had an 89 convertible left me stranded twice and had electrical issues. No more C4s or GM cars for me.

    What do you expect for a 30 year old car? You think these materials last forever??? Look at ANY 30 year old car and tell me everything is still brand new.

    I ran into most all the same issues with my 93 that I bought 3 years ago. Made for a fun little project. Here is a website of the car as it is today. I listed all the updates and upgrades on the site. Good luck with yours. Reach out to me if you ever have questions. Happy to help. 93corvette.website
