how to make SHEPHERD'S PIE (cottage pie)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 січ 2020
- In today’s episode, we learn how to make Shepherd’s Pie, but I actually make Cottage pie, I just like that name Shepherd’s pie much better. The difference between shepherds pie and cottage pie is that the former uses lamb and the latter uses beef. Besides that, both dishes are basically the same. Shepherds pie was a smart way to use up leftovers and its something super comforting and delicious.

OK. A Brit here. Love the way you made the distinction between shepherds and cottage. Spot on. This is one of my favourite meals, either with lamb or beef. BUT (you knew there was a but) sweetcorn has no place here. Other than that, nothing but glowing praise for you my friend. I'm learning so much from you since I found your channel a few months ago. I've always known that cooking food is one of the greatest shows of love.
For me, food is love. . . This channel is the embodiment of that rarity that is Unconditional Love. Thank you!
That’s so lovely to hear ❤️
@F*CK tRump you REALLY had to bring politics to the table?!
Omg! This is exactly how I feel about this channel ❤️
Okay okay okay! So i watched this recipe this morning and I was salivating so I decided to make it today! I'm a vegetarian so I made a few swaps like green lentils instead of the meat and OMG - hand down THE BEST Sheppard's pie I have ever eaten in my life!!
You sir are amazing, it was so beautiful and rich and just cosy and happy and I am so so happy I discovered your channel! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can't wait to make all of your other recipes 😍😍😍😍😍
@TRUMP WEARS DIAPER FUCK TRUMP , ahhhhh aggressive and a person who wishes death upon another person.
How's that inclusion coming along?!
This is probably one of the most underrated cooking channels in UA-cam. He goes simpler, more traditional, but gets the job done every single time. Keep up the good work!
A lot of his stuff is relatively simple, you're right, but he goes into detail and theory, so you understand *why* you are doing things. Not just blindly following instructions, and that means you can apply those lessons to other things you may cook. It's a really great channel.
I'll never grow tired of this channel. Definitely my favorite cooking channel on UA-cam, but what makes me love it so much is the attention to detail and the bond you create with your viewers. When you talk, makes me feel like you're one of my closest friends.
I almost never take the time to comment on UA-cam videos, but I simply can't not interact with you. Congrats on another great recipe, keep doing your thing!
PS: you also helped me a lot with my English as I'm not a native speaker (I'm Brazilian)
Another great vid bro. As an Irishman I condone this recipe. (apart from the sweetcorn) Its a dish created out of necessity by subsistence farmers or tenant farmers growing what they could to get by, at its basic its just beef/lamb/venison with whatever root veg you could grow topped with mashed potatoes.
Love you for the kobe intro bro. Respect.
you’re the sweetest. this looks like a really good way to cheer everyone up: the unity of food. peace and love from me to you, dude
That “Kobe” intro was heartfelt
Made this yesterday. Followed the recipe perfectly and it was AWESOME. My buddy's 15 year old that won't touch anything with veggies in it ate two servings. Thank you so much! Love this channel.
Thanks. I'm glad you made this and commented on it. You watch these cooking videos but never know what the food really tastes like!!! 👍
I made this for dinner last night and I thought it was delicious. It reminded me of being at a Pub. The pie had so much flavor, the Guinness, the thyme and rosemary. The seasonings were perfect. Thank you for sharing another great recipe. I look forward to trying more of your recipes.
That tip at the end is the truth. Love how deeply you connect with cooking and share that joy with your viewers, Much love.
You have an incredible spirit and soul my friend!! Your videos are therapy!! I studied culinary arts and yet you teach me something new EACH video, thank you! Sending good vibes and hoping your week turns around!! ❤️💕
We need to protect Not Another Cooking Show at all costs!!!!
Im an Irish man in Ireland, this is a fancy shepherds pie 😂 we wouldn't be putting the Guinness in but it's common for a restaurant to do it
I absolutely adore the Kobe tradition you pulled in the beginning, NEVER STOP DOING IT.
This is actually a shepherd's pie recipe I'm going to try, I've searched far and wide for one with corn and this is it. Thank you!
Right?? I love the corn in it too! I’m debating on whether to leave the peas in or not though - not the biggest fan of them.
The soundtracks are always amazing on here.
Interesting watching this today - 3yrs later. Thank you for all you do
I can’t get enough of this channel. Keep doing you man, I’ll just keep enjoying the delicious meals I steal off ya.
Keep on keepin’ on, man. Your videos are a source of inspiration, and they brighten a gloomy month. Thank you.
I didn't know about this video! I just made the pie the way you would've made it based on your other videos. Spot on!
Found you channel recently and I’m soooo glad I did. You’ve got a unique vibe and I haven’t found many new cooking channels in a while. Anyway, I think you explain how I feel about cooking so well. People don’t understand why I like to make dishes that take so much time, prep, steps, etc. But it’s because I love it and it makes me happy! My favorite hobby by a long shot. Much love 🤘🏻
Probably the most sound advice I’ve ever found on the internet. Thank you. Recipe looks great too.
Love your message in spreading that love of feeding others. Excited to make this recipe soon. Great job man!
I love this channel is one of the best cooking on UA-cam.
Love from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦❤️❤️❤️
The intro! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
TahitiaRose so good! Absolutely nailed it.
wow, just what i needed today. Hate Less, Cook More. thank you for this all-time comfort food. keep cooking. awesome channel!
Ok, so I made this last night, and it was absolute heaven on a plate. If anyone hasn't made this yet you are missing out.
I substituted dark beer for smaller amount of IPA and more stock. Truly phenomenal recipe.
There's such a relatable human element tied into the food made in your videos. It makes cooking approachable for people without experience and enjoyable regardless of skill level. I love that you don't even edit out some of the mistakes (the onion crying face was amazing haha) you just roll with it without skipping a beat. I hope some day you land a show akin to a modernized version of Mr Rogers or The Joy of Painting because it would be great entertainment. Thanks for the work!
I've made cottage pie a bunch of times but this recipe looks stellar, will have to try. Thank you.
I spent my teenage years living in UK 🇬🇧, and this brings me some of the best memories!!! Thank you so much! I will DEFINITELY be cooking this soon
Looks so good! Now I’m craving it. I couldn’t agree more, comfort food during stressful times. God bless
I love this so much! The recipe, the sentiment... it is very inspiring to watch you do what you love. KOBE!!!!
I made this for my family and it was AHHHHHMAZING! Thank You for this
I just have to say: thank you. I don't need therapy, I feel calm after watching you cook.
I'm from the UK. Whilst the UK doesn't have the best dishes in general, or that many... this is an absolute killer and easy to customise... a lot of people just make it traditional but I add spices, beef stock, all kinds of stuff to enrichen the flavour of the beef mince and my god... it can be one of the most delicious things you ever eat. Also super easy to sneak a lot of veg and goodness in
As fellow persin from the UK I'm not sure what planet you live on but your entire statement is utter BS!
Detox through love via your gift. THAT is a blessing of a tip.
This was so good I made it again for my kids and grandkids. But my son came up with an idea for shepherds pie stuffed baked potatoes, so I baked the potatoes and scooped out the skin filled with the meat mixture and topped with the mash and cheese and baked like that. We all loved it!
You're so inspiring ❤x it's been a difficult time but watching this gave me a great comfort! I feel the same when I'm baking 😊 just focus on making me & the people around me happy x thanks for the video and the recipe, will be trying it out at some point next week! ❤ stay strong, stay happy & stay healthy. X
This is the first video I've seen from things channel. Dude seems like a good guy, I'll keep watching.
I made it last night and it came out more than delicious!!! Me and my husband enjoyed it so much. I'm so glad I did the same as you. I actually made enough for 3 batches. Yeeeeeiiiiii!!!!!
I love the way you made it. Great job Steve!
Glad you covered this, took me forever to figure out how to get the meat “savory”. I determined Worcestershire sauce and/or dry mustard was key. My niece and nephews love this! Def will be incorporating most of your technique. 💜
I had this growing up - my mum also made the beef mincemeat version too. It was my favourite meal AND we always called it "shepherd's pie". So I'm not changing that now. Coming from the north of England it was pretty indigenous there - so I think you might be overstating the Irish roots. Of course I'm certain you get great shepherd's there too! Your version sounds great - will try on this New Year's Eve and report back. You add more condiments and add cheese and a yolk to the mash, which I'm very interested to try.
Another winner! I have some leftover brisket and now I know what I’ll do with it.
Just made this. Holy moly. It was phenomenal. Thank you!
Feeding others is my favourite! Super awesome comfort food recipe!
This looks delicious! I was ready to eat my phone. 😂
This is an amazing channel! Love the positive vibes at the end!
Oh wow!! I haven’t made shepherds pie in years. And I absolutely agree, it’s a very comforting dish. I’ll have to make this with winter quickly approaching. Thanks for sharing!!
Your recipes are amazing! I love you channel! I’m making the kale salad tonight!!!
I’ve been wanting to make this for awhile! Now I know it’ll be done right!
#ForkDon'tLie
Shout out for Kerrygold cheddar and butter!
Got rid of my TV 10 years ago, radio 4 years ago, quit newsfeeds 3 years ago, and then got serious in the kitchen. My mental health has never been better, so Steve, your advice is spot on.
Just finished my 3rd batch of this greatrecipe, this one is for St. Patrick’s day.Thankyou! 🇨🇦🍀👍
Absolutely incredible video. You always hear critics say, where is this ingredient. Or no corn in cottage pie. I tell those people, you do you. This looks amazing and I will be sure to make it this coming week with St. Patrick's day coming. Thanks for sharing!
OMG! Yummo! Going to have to give this a try. Such a big fan of your cooking style.
Love all the details and problem solving!
I really like your style. I cook much like you. The die hard Irish commenters just don't understand that all recipes are a variant of the original. Cook on!!!!🧆🍻🍽
Made this for dinner tonight. It was the best shepherds pie, I’ve ever eaten. Thank you so much for the recipe
Will you do a video similar to the pantry video, but for your fridge/freezer?
Love the show. I'm a home cook and watching verifies I think I know what I'm doing. Technique might be different, but it gets the job done.
Go Giants!!
Ive never heard of the dimple cleaner until today, wonderful.
Thank you Stephen!
Food is Love❤️
Always looking for ways to improve what I'm doing and the beer came to mind. First one I've seen so this and I feel like I was on the right track. Great job yo!
That looks amazing, man! Great job with the channel.
Easily my favourite cooking content, keep it up. Much love from Canada.
i really love your channel man! keep em coming!
Awesomeness my brother. Uplift the world with love and food.
Wholly wow I can't believe how good this is and I just made it. I did use dried spices instead of fresh Rosemary and thyme. I added a pinch of chipotle pepper spice and smoked paprika. Love your message, and love your recipes, and love the love you send out in each video
Cooking this now!
You are the BEST ❤️
Luv your videos! I definitely will be trying this dish out, I luv shepherds pie since I was little and my grandmother made it. Hated cooking growing up, didn’t fall in love w/ cooking till I was married w/ children. Now they’re grown, so cook for my family and friends!!
wow man .. you just reminded me that was the first thing when i was at galway a few years ago .. can't wait to cook it for my wife on sunday and get some of that good memories going .. thank you for your great work !!!
Love it! Can figure it all out after the first 60 seconds. That was a sweet montage!
You are such a good boy ! I love how you cook! I love cooking myself! ♥️
Thanks for sharing the love of cooking. I've made Shepherd pie in the past but it was nothing like this. I'm hoping to try this recipe.
I’m definitely trying out this recipe!
@NOT ANOTHER COOKING SHOW 15:38 into the video is TRUTH. Feeding yourself and others good food brings emotional detox for me too. Well done sir!
I think I was a big fan of the channel before this, but something about this episode made me love the channel. I used this recpie, and adapted it to be a vegitarian versions with lentels and mushrooms as my wife had a doctor asking her to eat less meat at the time. The pandemic was full on shortly after this and I took time to really get good at cooking, largely based on your videos. Now I'm starting to cook again after spending a couple of years going hard on a small business which is now in the place where I can take one day a week to work from home and enjoy cooking while I do so, and this is the recpie I am going to make for my wife tomorrow. Thank you my friend.
Love the channel and the passion!
looks so good.
thanks for sharing
Best video yet. Love it.
On point bud, it looks awesome. thanks.
I wanna go home and make this. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one! Just made one myself - great time of the year for it!
It truly is a dang tasty recipe I have eaten. Congrats on doing it this great way . Thank you for sharing.
Best channel on UA-cam man!! You inspire me time after time! Keep inspiring others Stephen!! #RIPKobe
Dude - I love you. Thanks. Your approach to a cooking channel is very close to what I've imagined doing. I never would have done it anyway, and if I did - you would still be better than me at it. So, cool.
You're not focusing on the actual recipe so much as you are on the concepts of the dish. And the occasional reminders of when to go nuts and when not to, when to be precise and when not to.
For this dish, the detail of the fact that the mashed potatoes are only a part of the overall thing, so keep them stiffer than you would and not so stand-alone perfect as you would, is key.
Appreciate and love what ur doing !! Thank u
You always Kill IT! Love your channel.. keep up the great work.
Thanks Brother; I needed that.
As a Brit this looks great! Not sure on the Sweetcorn in there tho, I’ve never seen that before
Trying to get those veggies in
I’m also against the sweetcorn haha
@@maxiuxoxo Yep me too, never used Guiness in a cottage pie either. Looks great though.
I used to get sweetcorn in mine during school dinners, it was probably just the school trying to get more veg into our diet but it wasn’t bad! I enjoyed it
That's how we make it in Québec, Canada. Look up "pâté chinois", which means "Chinese pie" in French. It's called like that because it was originally made as cheap food for the railway workers.
Great recipe and video really inspires people to get cooking this tasty dish
Definitely making this
One of the best comfort foods. 😍
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DISH!!
I can’t wait to make this for my kids!! 🤍🤍🤍
The absolute ultimate comfort food!!!
Your cottage pie is just like my mom's...she always said ' sorry, it's cottage pie ' we loved it. When thing's were better money wise we still asked for it...Mom was our best!!!
Great recipe and I like the little twists. From a curious cooking Irishman. Keep up the great work
I’m actually having the hardest few weeks of my marriage/pregnancy. Watching this video really opened up to me and pushed me to distract myself from all the problems and negativity I’m dealing with. I really needed this I feel like you are talking to me. 💝
Sorry to hear you’re having a hard time! I know the feeling. Cooking always helps!
The difficult part is always the "putting the mash on top of an almost-liquid layer" - I think you mastered it Steve!
Just put it in a piping bag (or a ziplock with a corner cut off) and pipe it on!
Let it sit for awhile and the liquid will thicken, makes it way easier.
You can put your mince into your baking dish and pop it in the fridge until sets. It's going to heat through in your bake. Cheers!
