We've been on the road for almost a week now and have free camped our way through some amazing FREE outback campsites. We forgot how good the sunsets are out in the west!

      Forgot to say Mataranka is one of my favourite places, a true hidden gem that so many would just drive past and never know existed. Bitter springs is just as nice around the corner 👌

      @@SmartTouringSystems 💯 we pushed with minimal stops from whyalla to Mataranka to spend a few days there relaxing before the leisurely drive to Katherine and then Darwin a few years ago. Then made sure we stopped in at Mataranka for another few nights to enjoy the springs before heading home to SA.
      If your doing litchfield this trip be sure to stop in at buley rock hole another hidden gem in the NT 👌
      Enjoy your trip, looking forward to the next episode

    100 kph is the maximum towing speed limit in Aus. 110 kph risks your insurance.

    Great set up guys
    Wondering about your travel weights?
    In Wa they are starting to hit traveler’s up
    I’m led to believe over east it’s a regular occurrence
    Cheers

    Great info mate, we are a week into our trip traveling north from Melb and Currently in Coober Pedy.
    One question do you drop the cruiser into 5th gear at all on the flat roads? Our tow vehicle is a 76 and are towing a 3t van, I want to go to 5th but not sure.

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Matt. Yeah some days it will cruise along in 5th happily other days 4th is the go depends a lot on the wind I find.
      I think 4th is easier on the ute though as a general rule.

    • @troopy7834
      @troopy7834 2 роки тому +1

      Hey guys, I've been told to never ever tow in 5th gear particularly if you've got the taller 5th gear on the cruiser. I've got a 78 series Troopy and we're towing a 3.5t van and I only ever tow in 4th gear. I sit on between 90 and 95km/h and find that's the sweet spot for speed, fuel economy and safety.
