It sounds like battery replacement is quite common… my battery show 76% battery health under Coconut Battery app. Thanks, I think I will go ahead and replace them.
i sure wish i saw this video instead of the video i actually watched when replacing my battery, he didnt even show calibration process just everything before that and it caused me to break my fpc cable and now i have a brand new battery inside that wont connect. Any tips on replacing that battery connector?
Hi. I am having 2017 Macbook Pro 2017 touchbar model. But the problem is to find the right and exact model battery to replace it? Any idea how do i cross check that info? Please guide. TIA
You can go into the "System Report" Application. There you'll find the Model Number (Letters + Numbers). With that code you should be able to find the exact battery you need.
Great video. thank you for making this! Was reading that Simplo Technology is the Taiwanese maker of the original Apple battery. But, where are these actually available? Apple service centers / custome rservice say they only sell it to their own authorized service centers and not to end users. guessing if Simplo would sell these in the open market as well or with some other name. Any suggestions from your end would be helpful, because the quality of the batteries matters so much, especially from the backup & safety point of views.
It can have many problems. Outside tempereature too high? That was a big one for me. Then also dirt in the fans? Battery can help but usually not the first thing when it comes to overheating.
They are using a liquid glue "softener" or something and for that process they want to be "extra safe" and remove everything. I just used a hair dryer to warm up the glue pads under the battery pads and it worked perfectly. The minimal bent in the main board should not be a problem. But of course: all done at your own risk. This is just my experience of doing the process twice.
@@ChrisSpiegl Thanks for your reply, what do you think of removing speakers connectors from the mainboard? is it necessary? is there any risk when we lift the mainboard up for speakers?
I am running the latest macOS - now Monterey. And in terms of calibrating the battery, please refer to the article by iFixit linked in the description.
@@euphoricmonk I always upgrade my operating system since that's how things go. There is no point in staying on the old OS (unless you have software running which is not supported on the newest release).
@@ChrisSpiegl In a pure genuine world that makes sense but with big Corps these days I'm noticing less privacy and more geotracking telemetry algos etc.
@@euphoricmonk Isn't apple one of the few companies who are kind of working against that? And the latest release is a push toward that direction with Mail and such having the option to protect a bit more. Not sure if I'll use that stuff but it's there.
You have to scrape the battery quite hard and it is worth it to remove the touchpad, doesn;t take long and if you follow chris' advice (don't turn laptop upside down) it works very well. I think only 8 screws to undo the touchpad
Thanks for your video. Is it possible to lay the new battery on top and just plug in the tiny 6-pin power connector from the new battery to make sure it works? I’m not even sure a battery is the issue…. My MacBook stopped turning on, Apple said it needed a new logic board (after 6 seconds of diagnosis). I let the laptop sit for 3 months and then miraculously it turned on, as if waking up from sleep, all apps, tabs opened up. Battery worked fine. But after three weeks of problem free usage, it stopped turning on again (plugged in or not).
With this complicated a diagnosis, I would probably try to go to a 3rd party fixing office. It does sound like there is more going on than just the battery.
@@ChrisSpiegl Thanks, the battery is arriving today so it's worth a shot anyway. If I can get it to turn on again I'll back up the SSD and then take it in for proper repair. Mainly want to know if it's possible to plug in the new battery without removing the old one first. Is the only connection to the motherboard the little 6-pin ribbon or does the battery controller have to be screwed in too?

If you look at my video, you will see that I had a similar issue and in my case it was that the first battery I put into my MacBook was faulty and I requested a replacement from the seller. Got that, put it in, and all worked out nicely. This may be what is going on for you as well.
Greetings from Jakarta (Indonesia). Just want to thank you for a great video, very very helpful. I switched my battery and my speakers at the same time and feels like my mac is ready to go for another few years!
I am currently sitting in the sun in Marbella, with my MacBook unplugged and I usually get about 2 hours of normal use (light audio editing, web browsing, note taking, UA-cam watching) at max display brightness.
Your detailed tutorial is amazing, we followed and worked! Can't thank you enough!
Great to hear!
Thank you Chris, I was able to do my first modular battery swap within 2 hours. The Macbook Pro is working fine again.
Thank you, the procedure worked fine for my 13 inches version A1706, the size is different but everything is at the exact same place
That’s awesome. Congrats on the battery switch. 🔋
Thank you Chris, because of your video i checked the battery voltage before changing and lo and behold the voltage wasn't nearly as needed.
Thanks. I just used your links to get my new battery and a tool kit. Hope it all works out.
Good luck (and some patience). You'll get this.
man so glad i stumbled on your page with this actual battery replacement guide and the resources you mentioned...thanks man really a life saver

Probably possible, but I have never done it. So, researching youtube / ebay for the new connector - or going to an actual repair shop.
How long should i charge the mac after replacement

my macbook a1707 has overheating problem can be reason battery problem be?
It can have many problems.

Great video! Is the example Macbook that you use on this video a model A1707?
Yes, that's exactly the model I used in this video.
Where did you buy this second battery? What is its brand name? Was that a good choice? Thanks for your feed-back.
I bought it on ebay. No special brand name.

Is not necessary to extract the trackpad to do it safely..
True, but removing the trackpad is also not really complicated and I felt more comfortable that way.
Do you have to remove the Trackpad?
You don't have to, but it's so easy I'd rather remove it than break it.
