They say what happened to him in the song quite clearly.. Land mine has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing, taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul, left me with life in hell.
@@robjensen6227 a movie that shows the effects of war and the military industrial complex. Sending the poor to fight their wars and as a result they loose legs and arms and up not being able to say anything. Just exist.
You fellas really missed the mark with this. James literally tells you what’s going on. It’s really one of those songs that demands respect to listen and take in.
These dudes literally react to anything. So how hard is it to find the lyrics for this song? they pause to say they dont understand but dont look it up, give it a chance guys
Couple of things: 1) Boy came back from war. Lost his limbs, hearing, eyesight, everything, due to a landmine. 2) Clips were from a movie called "Johnny Got His Gun". 3) The fast "choppy" thrashing before the solo is SOS for "kill me". That's what the officer was saying in the film, "over and over again, kill me". Metallica played that. This song is a masterpiece.
I believe Metallica bought the movie rights to produce this music video. The book was written by Trumbo in 1930's - Book goes more into detail than the video. great anti-war book.
Black girl here, who is also a metal head 🤘🏽 This is my favorite Metallica song! You guys have to read the lyrics and re-listen to this song! And that double bass on the drums is EVERYTHING. Lars is a beast. This song is what made me want to learn the drums ❤ I’m happy to see other black people give this song a chance though.
I'll tell you who's the beast, that is my boy from slayer,, the drummer an I can't remember the man's name right now, but my god he blew Lars away like it's not even a contest
This is an anti-war song inspired by the book "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo. The clips in the video are from the movie made from that book. Metallica bought the rights so that they could use the footage. The book is crazy intense and I do recommend it. This song will mean much more after reading it. Also, I would recommend having the lyrics handy for all of these songs that you are listening to for the first time. So much more meaning in the lyrics when combined with the feel of the music. I really enjoy seeing you all react to the music that I grew up with. My kids and their friends are constantly exposing me to different music and I am always better because of it. Music is the universal language...put yourself where the artist is in the moment and feel the feels...no better way to express humanity in my opinion.
Bro beautiful said. I salute u champ 🫡. Music gets me by, when I'm feeling depressed, angry, sad, or just want to rock out or listen to something upbeat, music has saved my life multiple times. My mom passed away Dec 29th 2020 and I listened to Not in Nottingham by Roger Miller from the movie Robinhood, my mom used to sing that song to me when I was a kid so when I listen to it now I feel like she is still with me. Guys, this is not “screamo”. This is Heavy Metal at its finest. The band at the time this video was made had James on vocals and rhythm guitar’ Lars on drums, Kirk on lead guitar and Jason on bass.
You guys really did this song dirty. It’s emotionally deep and has so many levels. You have to LISTEN to the lyrics and the commentary to marry the deep meaning with the emotional roller coaster in the score.
I never catch the lyrics on the first listen of anything I listen to, especially if it sounds good. If anyone tells me they picked up the lyrics to this song on first listen rather than bobbing their heads, I assume they are lying.
fr like mostly this song becuase this one is about a guy with no limbs, deaf, and also blind after the war, and also with creaping death and ride the lighting
Indeed... Lmao. Then I thought if this is their first listen to Metallica, maybe they should listen to something like Breadfan by them and truly understand the level of Thrash they were at 😂
I'm going to be honest, I believe your subs probably wanted a serious intent with this particular song. Its theme is one of a fallen soldier who has given the most and is left with nothing but pain and not even the dignity of death. I think they probably just wanted this to be a seriously reacted song. One thing you might have noticed with the heavy metal fans, we are deeply loyal and FEEL the song. When we ask you for a reaction, its because we want to share that experience with you. I love you guys. You are all the same age as my kids and I love seeing you young men doing your thing so well.
Honestly, I don't think the music video is the best way to experience this song for the first time. The sound quality from the movie sampling is not great and hard to understand. At least subtitles are needed.
@@moestatk1 I completely agree. This is one for our generation. THEY NEEDED the subtitles because they haven't been conditioned to the same rhythm as us to that music. So Metallica ONE was already a HARD song to UNDERSTAND unless you were a fan back in the day, and we had the blessings of every song being printed in the tape cassette covers for us to memorize. These guys really need a re-reaction to this one with just the music and words.
The thought, the idea, of being trapped inside your own body like a prison, wishing that you could be deleted to escape, is absolutely terrifying. This song is legendary rock.
You guys it’s very very important to pay attention to the lyrics and heavy-metal music. They told the entire story as to exactly what happened to this fallen soldier. Pull up the lyrics and go back and listen to the song again and it will truly blow your mind.
You've completely missed the story, lyrics and the emotional message being portrayed here. This here is not any "rock/metal" song. It is one of the most loved and respected masterpieces in this genre. Definitely not something to be taken lightly when making a reaction video.
I will explain the nature of metal music - and this speaks to a lot of your comments: "I feel like the guitar has a voice and has something to say" "I feel the anger" "This makes me want to throw a chair" etc. Metal music has epic and profound lyrics like old-school rap. In fact metal and rap are very similar in their cadences and flow. And rap even samples a lot of metal bass riffs. Metal music is predicated on telling deep stories that speak to some serious and often times dark shit. Just like good rap music does....or did. Think of the lyrics as painting a picture like a movie does. Every good movie has music that enhances the scene. Try watching some horror without the music - not as captivating. Try watching an action scene or adventure scene without the music in the movie - not as exciting or adrenalizing. The instruments in the metal band are playing the mood music to enhance the emotion, to make you feel a sort of way that is congruent with the lyrical message and imagery. Metal music and Classical music are both the two most powerfully moving music out there; so you can see the correlation on how that music is composed in the song - to affect your emotions. Yes the guitar is talking, yes the drums are beating a war like pattern and rhythm to enhance and escalate the feelings of doom or aggression. Just like in a movie. As many have said the movie clips in this music video is from Johnny Got His Gun. The title "One" is asking the question "Well what about that ONE?" In the book that the movie was based off of, it says that a person left in the condition that the young soldier is in after the mortar shell has about one-in-a-million chance of ever surviving the injuries. Well....if there's one in a million....what do you do with that One? Now imagine this happening to someone that went to war so that you can stay home and have freedoms. When you get a moment - thank a soldier for their service.
The guy said: "what's that?" the other one said: "that is a guitar" They constantly ask "what's going on?" while they refuse to stop talking and listen for 5 seconds. And one of them fixes his nonexistent hair every half a minute. This is their IQ, do you honestly think they understood what you just said?
This was like watching The Godfather and talking loudly about the cars and suits over the "settle all family business" baptism scene. Soak this in and pay attention. Deep song.
Boys, the song is based on the 1938 Novel "Johnny got his gun" the old movie scenes are from the 1971 movie adaptation. It is about a solider that steps on a landmine and losing his legs, arms, vision, hearing and ability to talk. He is trapped inside his own mind with no way to interact with the world.
Maybe if you would just listen to the song you’d understand what the song was about. It’s about a wounded veteran that has lost his sight, hearing and all of his limbs and he just wants to die but they’re keeping him alive. Imagine how you would feel and the agony of it all if that happened to you.You guys crack me up. God bless and happy memorial weekend.Stay safe
in my country we don't have armed conflicts, but you being a country that takes soldiers to conflicts all the time, you should listen to this with more respect
How he kept asking, “What is going on?!?”while repeatedly talking over the lyrics and movie clips that explained literally everything… This was really hard to watch.
I agree and disagree, your right but one thing your wrong on one thing....he wants to die ( his head is sending a military code S.O.S. - Help! Wants to die!!) because he has nothing to live for, his father is keeping him alive and it's the patient's thoughts you hear his mind thinking out loud as to the guitarist emotions to war and deaths. 1989 I saw this video while pregnant with my first child and this song scares me to death I can feel the anger and pain and feeling so much death. I refuse to hear this song since then. War is not right and too many deaths just FOR POWER. Watching you guys watching this is not as painful because of stopping and trying to understand this music video. Oh BTW I was curious as to how you would react that's why I'm watching. Totally missed the point!!! This song is so deep to death that I could feel his pain.....when I first watched it I didn't get the video until now but my feelings still remains the same.
@@priss808 that's deep and expands on the truth of the scenario in the video, and real life. I simply was going off of what I could remember, I watched this a ton in the 90's, but I was just a little boy as well. Appreciate you expanding and correcting where I missed with it! Thank you.
Was the movie called "Johnny and his guns" or am I wrong. I know I could look it up but I'd rather shoot my shot then find out if I'm right or not here. Either way I know I've seen that film, and it's a tough watch I'm pretty sure I'm right because I think I saw a young Donald Sutherland in this video
" One" is a song about a soldier who loses his arms legs and eye sight, and when he's in the hospital the doctor is talking with the Sargent, because the doctor couldn't figure out why the guy strapped to the bed was shaking continuously in a rhythm, the Sargent side it was Morse code, the doctor asked what he was saying, the Sargent said " he's saying kill me over and over again " . Thanks guys live your reactions Gob bless. Rob Banks ❤
Sigh, I knew the video version would confuse all of them. Which is why I am starting to feel that the only real way for this group to react to videos is by using "lyric versions". Because when you have the lyrics in front of you, you KNOW that the song about wanting to die because the horrors of war has taken everything from you physically, mentally and emotionally. That due to a landmine, without arms, legs, speech, hearing, sight, that your body becomes an endless torture chamber of darkness and silence, cut off from the "outside world", slowly driving you insane. Further eroding your ability to cope to or with and comprehend the world around you
Worst reaction video ever. They should stick to the horrible mumble crappy rap of today. Zero talent music is easier to understand for people who don’t shut the f@&k up
It wouldn't be confusing if they would stop talking over the videos. They are not stupid and it's not hard to understand. The just have to pay attention.
In 8th grade I just simply loved this song. Now that I’m a 48 year old army wife, it’s meaning is on another level. Lars Ulrich is the drummer. He’s beyond amazing.
Everyone, and I mens everyone bashes on Lars, yeah as a drummer his timing is off but who cares. Lars made three classic all time albums. 4 if you include AJFA. DuDes a great drummer. Fits this band perfect.
@@cullertransportation Yea but I’m saying that those first five albums were there old fast really heavy style and the next 3 albums after that they stopped that now their newer albums have gotten faster
Johnny's Got His Gun is one of the best anti-war stories. That is one of the most depressing stories and Metallica describes the pain of this soldier like no other. The emotion you can feel in their music is magical!
The story is a soldier went to war, lost his limbs, and when he is moving his head up and down, he's using Morse code to say that he wants to be dead. Landmine has taken my speech Taken my legs Taken my hearing ... I have never seen anyone smiling as they listen to this tune...
I feel like some of these reactions require a follow up video after y'all read the comments or after y'all do more research on the song history. I know that some people think that having the lyrics up is cheating but if you're not used to listening to a specific genre it's gonna be hard to understand the words. The message in these types of songs are so deep.
Facts man these kids are lost Tho lol. They are stuck in a small circle of music. Need to broaden their horizons. I mean they said they had barley heard of Nas, basically said Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was trash, and had no clue who Nirvana was. The dude in the pink is lowkey the exception but just barely.
Right! I was like stop pausing it, it's the best part! But the first time I actually spoke out loud during this video when dude said something about it being screamo. Metallica is definitely not screamo!
I'm not gonna sit here and tell other people how to react to a song, but after all these years, I still can't listen to this song without crying. It really gets inside my heart and squeezes it hard. 😢😭💔😓 Guys- I love your reactions. But for this song, I would suggest perhaps another listen while looking at the lyrics. If not on the channel, just for yourselves, off of UA-cam.
In the movie a soldier was hit by an explosive and it took his sight and hearing and ability to talk along with his arms and legs. He knows he's alive but can't really live and wants to die.
That’s the deal with many very well written metal songs…the whole song tells a story and each part feeds into or off of the parts that precede it or follows. Pausing in the middle of this song in particular causes them to lose the story line. Because these guys are very insightful and observant, I would love to hear what they would have to say about this video the second time through. They probably would have been better after off watching it all the way through with no interruptions first and then reacting to it.
Hahahah ok Im not the only one... When the excited guy stopped the video at 9:03min (one of the best part!) I have to admit that he lost a bit of my respect
@@baijan8050 You think that's FUNNY ?!? Hum, not me. There's absolutely NOTHING funny in pausing a song right in the middle. AT ALL. 🤬 PwaaaHahhaha I got you!!! ...you thought I was serious eh? 😉 Hihihih!
This is one of the best metal music videos of all time yet I think the mistake that reactors make when watching this is that they get distracted by the movie scenes and don’t truly listen to the song.
The reason you don't know whats going on is because you all are talking over the song. It's about a troop that got blown up and he ended up deaf, blind, mute, no arms, and no legs. He is alone in the dark, can't move arms or legs, can't talk or even hear them. It's like a dream but he knows he's not asleep and its real. He shakes his head in Morse Code "SOS" for help and "Kill me" over and over again.
The fact that you guys are giving it a shot right now is enough for me 👏. It's hard to hear any lyrics alone especially metal music for the first time for me. I usually do it separately. My brother's introduced me to metal music as a kid and this was one of the first songs. And yes just like old school rap lyrics are very deep.
I love you guys and love the reaction to the instruments, bit you have to do another reaction to this song and really listen to the lyrics. It's an anti war song and the movie clips are taken from the movie Johnny Got his Gun. The lyrics describe a soldier who lost all his limbs, sight, hearing, and ability to talk. The song rocks, but it's heavy. And the dude you called Uncle Sam was the soldier's dad who taught him Morse Code who ends up showing him off like a circus freak. Heavy song on may levels, but would love to see another reaction from you guys after listening to the lyrics and movie clips
Oh god, the soldier's dad really did that in the movie? I was thinking of watching it, and I heard it's a movie you can only watch once...much like Schindler's List was for me. Fantastic movie, can only handle it once.
This song is based off of the book “Johnny Got His Gun”, which is about a WWI soldier who lost his arms, jaw, legs, and external features and senses. It gets to the point where he wants to kill himself because he is imprisoned within himself.
In all fairness, these guys didn't get what the song was based on and what it is about. That is why we, as elder statesmen, to enlightening these guys because I love the delight they have with hearing our generations music. And once they understand what the song is about, they will appreciate it even more. Keep up the good work!
Hey, I know this was 6 months plus but appreciate you guys taken the time to listen to this. This was when Metallica was still respected as true metal. Even if you didn't get it from the first time listening you still gave it a chance. Music in my opinion is the glue that links all of us together. We all enjoy it and can find commonality in music no matter what category. I love metal but I also grew up on the Suger Hill Gang, public Enemy and discovered Robert Cray later. I think music has a little bit of everything for everyone no matter for the most part what it is.
metallica is one of “the big four” thrash metal bands (them, megadeth, slayer, and anthrax). they’re pretty much *the* metal band, tbh. every album they’ve put out has gone at least platinum, one is diamond and another is close to diamond. they’re legit legends. and this is one of their softer songs. edited to add: they’re 100% *not* screamo 😬
The movie in the video is called "Johnny got his gun". The clips show that he has lost all his limbs, his ability to speak, or do anything for that matter. He can't fight to live or die. He's at the mercy of everyone around him. His father taught him Morse code as a boy and thats the only way he can communicate, and begins asking for them to kill him, over and over again. Love the song and always thought the video with it was so haunting. Chills every time
Guys you need to listen to the song don't just hear it this song is extremely deep LISTEN to the words the man was blown up by a landmine wakes up and can't move or speak all he can do is blink "kill me"
Not in a literal sense, many combat veterans feel this because of PTSD. Yeah...It's a movie soundtrack, but we completely feel it, not a physical sense, but in a mental capacity. You need to listen to Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, The Unforgiven, Enter the Sandman, Fade to Black, and Nothing Else Matters. The guy was blown apart. He can't communicate except Morris code. He's begging to die.
@@sharonburcham66 It's in the lyrics: landmine has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul Left me with life in Hell.
Um.....listen to the lyrics. Listen to the voice in the video and look at the images. Put them all together. Also, need to get a speaker you can plug into your laptop or whatever you're using. You'll be able to hear more and understand more with rock music.
This is a video about the morality of euthenasia for a soldier coming back from war with no quality of life. He has no arms, legs, face or senses and asks to be put out of his misery.
Love seeing you dude's experience this shit. The song is speaking of a Veteran. A soldier who has lost more then most. Metallica - Lyrics: I can't remember anything Can't tell if this is true or dream Deep down inside I feel to scream This terrible silence stops me Now that the war is through with me I'm waking up, I cannot see That there's not much left of me Nothing is real but pain now Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, wake me Back in the womb it's much too real In pumps life that I must feel But can't look forward to reveal Look to the time when I'll live Fed through the tube that sticks in me Just like a wartime novelty Tied to machines that make me be Cut this life off from me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, wake me Now the world is gone, I'm just one Oh God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, help me Darkness Imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell Landmine Has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell
Yes, they did. I watched their videos on MTV in elementary school. The Unforgiven video was played constantly, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, etc.
I love what y'all are doing, being open to hearing & experiencing new music... I think this song needed subtitles to understand the meaning of the lyrics.
y'all need to listen to the lyrics for context - aint gonna get 10k if you just talking about the 'vibe' and not the actual lyrics. its about an injured soldier who has lost his ability to speak and see and also lost his arms and legs. he's in a mental prison and wants to die. he's about as helpless and isolated as a conscious person caould be
You all need earphones. I think 💭 you should look 👀 up what’s going on & the lyrics. YOU DO NOT PAUSE DURING A SOLO. That’s rule I and 2 show alittle respect to the artist.
Same. Out of all the music reaction videos I’ve seen, this one was just disrespectful and did no justice to the band. I understand sometimes that a pause is necessary to reflect on some lyric, ect, but you guys stopped and started this so many times it got frustrating. PLEASE listen to the song again, but do so in STFU mode.
It starts out "story of the video" the dad talking about honor and having to serve the country when he gets older but basically telling the kid "do you think you can be able to handle it", during the war in video near the solo the lyrics says "Landmine has taken my sight, speech, hearing, arms, legs, soul, and it's left him with a life in hell" the man is literally a torso and can't do anything, having doctors experiment on him, unable to communicate but only through Morse Code (...---...) means S.O.S and then telling them to "just kill me, I don't want to live" P.S. his father thought him Morse Code before he grew up and went to war. Also this was based off of a true story that's why they wrote the song since they really support the military and troops that fight for all of us 🤘❤🤘
This song was written after they lost their bassest Cliff Burton in a accident. This song to me is about being trapped within yourself and no one can help you. The clips in the video are actually from a movie that James likes.
I understand now that the most reserved of you and my favorite reactor of the group just Graduated with a Masters in Business. Congrats young man. Go out and get it!
That’s not screamo. That’s thrash. They are different styles of music and not really so closely related. Metallica is one of the pioneers of thrash metal.
I've watched a couple of your Metallica reaction vids now. When listening to any of their music, please for your own sakes google the meaning of behind each Metallica song and find their printed lyrics (especially for their 80's albums) so y'all won't be so confused and asking your audience to do the work for you. Respectfully, A lifetime Metallica fan
This song is based on the 1971 movie Johnny Got His Gun (based on a novel by Dalton Trumbo who was an award winning novelist). It is based on a VERY REAL Canadian soldier. He was seriously wounded during WW1. He lost all his senses and limbs. The only way he could communicate was nodding his head in Morse Code. He wanted them to kill him. He had no life whatsoever. Imagine!
So the whole song is about a soldier who stepped on this land mine and it blew up and he lost both his arms, both his legs, his sight, his hearing, his speech, and it makes his life a living hell so he just has to sit there and wait to die so his torture can be over
James Hetfield is considered by many the greatest rhythm guitar player who ever lived. He's the one writing and playing all the fingerstyle melodies and heavy riffs while singing the vocals. Kirk Hammett on lead is way lower on the list of guitar players, but he's perfect for this band and a legend in his own right. James plays many of the solos himself. He's a monster talent. One of the best ever to stand on a stage...
I've never seen any reaction to this song where the scenes and dialogue from the movie were completely ignored. You guys were not giving this song the attention it deserved. Less time talking and asking questions, more time listening and getting the point. This kid went to war and came back unable to see, missing all of his limbs. He was just a torso and a head. And the song is about his fear and pain. His one wish, to die. It's very powerful. I'm only halfway thru the video, Im sure you will eventually pick up on the POINT of the song. The doctors said he wasn't suffering but he was in torture. The nurse tried to put him out of his misery but the other doctor stopped her. And they just let the guy rot in a room. This is one of the best classic Metalica songs, and you guys completely talked over it. It's cool, but you should do this again and pay attention. This was based on a real movie. "Johnny Got His Gun" And anti war movie. Databyter
It's an anti-war song about a soldier waking up from being blown up by a mine during WWI. It's his prayer for death because his life was only suffering. The scenes are his care in hospital and flashbacks to before the injury. That said, ignore the video, it's a thrashing song that speaks for itself.
Metallica grabs the listener's attention with music, but they hold it with lyrics. They are unforgettable. Edit: From a former soldier's wife, if you give little thought to the military on Veteran's Day, let it be about those wounded.🙏 Also, Five Finger Death Punch has a song called, "Wrong Side Of Heaven" that is excellent.
So back in the 80's James was introduced by his brother to a book he read talking about a WWI Vet that servired a motor attract, losing all his limbs and face causing the man to be trapped in his own body. James was so touched that he wrote this song. Due to his childhood, he felt as this man being trapped in his own skin. This song was what pretty much introduces them to the younger GenX'ers like myself. Justice for All was their biggest hit before the Black album came out. Metallica is the biggest and most famous Metal band there is. Loved watching your reaction to this great song.
This song deals with the movie Johnny Got His Gun (book then movie) by Dalton Trumbo as a middle finger to the perils of war. It deals with a young man who gets hit by a shell, loses his eyes, ears, nose, arms and legs. He's basically a trunk but has all his memories. He's thinking back on his life.
They say what happened to him in the song quite clearly.. Land mine has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing, taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul, left me with life in hell.
Johnny got his gun, the movie made in 1971. Johnny is the guy laying there with no arms no legs and is a shell of a man.

"ill be a reactor" cant understand but ill keep going
Couple of things:
1) Boy came back from war.
Thank you!🧡🧡🧡

Guys, this is not “screamo”. This is Heavy Metal at its finest. The band at the time this video was made had James on vocals and rhythm guitar’ Lars on drums, Kirk on lead guitar and Jason on bass.
James is rhythm
James is rhythm
What bass? I don't think he's plugged in.

Fr they didn’t pay attention to a damn thing
I was just starting to enjoy them but I won't anymore. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
When you listen to any Metallica song you really have to pay attention to the lyrics too because they always have a deeper meaning.
I never catch the lyrics on the first listen of anything I listen to, especially if it sounds good. If anyone tells me they picked up the lyrics to this song on first listen rather than bobbing their heads, I assume they are lying.
@@RamRod13 lol same , people just too focus on lyrics and missing out the rhythm, solos

caleb they have no clue
They’ll grow. Give’em time. They don’t know about metal that starts with melody before intensity
Ditto
Yup
Honestly, I don't think the music video is the best way to experience this song for the first time. The sound quality from the movie sampling is not great and hard to understand. At least subtitles are needed.
The over zealous attitude in the video. I'd just like. Are you actually listening?
True, they hardly actually listened to it
I will explain the nature of metal music - and this speaks to a lot of your comments:
"I feel like the guitar has a voice and has something to say"
"I feel the anger"
"This makes me want to throw a chair"
etc.
There's plenty of modern hip hop that carries all the merit of the old-school. Kendrick Lamar.
The guy said: "what's that?"
the other one said: "that is a guitar"
They constantly ask "what's going on?" while they refuse to stop talking and listen for 5 seconds.
And one of them fixes his nonexistent hair every half a minute.
This is their IQ, do you honestly think they understood what you just said?
@Dragon Ball fans can't read Okay big guy
And THAT is why I like old school rap!!
Excellent explanation!
This was like watching The Godfather and talking loudly about the cars and suits over the "settle all family business" baptism scene. Soak this in and pay attention. Deep song.
. You guys reactions are priceless! You’ll feel bad when you understand what the video is about. But you didn’t know so go easy on yourself.
More importantly - imagine it happening to someone else because they fought so you didn't have to.
Totally agree bro
Well said !!!!!!!
in my country we don't have armed conflicts, but you being a country that takes soldiers to conflicts all the time, you should listen to this with more respect
How he kept asking, “What is going on?!?”while repeatedly talking over the lyrics and movie clips that explained literally everything…
This was really hard to watch.
The soldier is injured, fighting to live, but in so much pain, he's ready to die. That's what the lyrics reflect.
He has almost no senses left, no arms, legs, eyes, ears... all he can do is move his head in Morse code saying please kill me.
@@banyarling Thanks for that jolt of memory. I remember watching and learning this in the 90's by my grandfather. That's exactly it!

This is one of Metallica's best songs, Hands down...
One of? This could arguably be the best heavy metal song of the entire genre
One of? This prolly the best metal song of all time and it’s not even close😂
Further eroding your ability to cope to or with and comprehend the world around you
They would be less confused if they talked less during the song

Johnny's Got His Gun is one of the best anti-war stories. That is one of the most depressing stories and Metallica describes the pain of this soldier like no other. The emotion you can feel in their music is magical!
13:33 "I can play the guitar a little like that" bruh that shit almost made me throw up my cereal lmao

Taken my legs
Taken my hearing ...

I feel like some of these reactions require a follow up video after y'all read the comments or after y'all do more research on the song history. I know that some people think that having the lyrics up is cheating but if you're not used to listening to a specific genre it's gonna be hard to understand the words. The message in these types of songs are so deep.
Maybe NOT TALKING the whole video could also help to understand 🙃
@@LussiaNéron That's the case with reaction channels that have more than 1 person.

I'm not gonna sit here and tell other people how to react to a song, but after all these years, I still can't listen to this song without crying. It really gets inside my heart and squeezes it hard. 😢😭💔😓
Guys- I love your reactions.
That’s a song you can’t pause or you lose the energy completely!

This is one of the best metal music videos of all time yet I think the mistake that reactors make when watching this is that they get distracted by the movie scenes and don’t truly listen to the song.
Best metal song ever. You don't hear the song as much as you feel it.
Thank you, I couldn't remember the name of the movie
Oh god, the soldier's dad really did that in the movie? I was thinking of watching it, and I heard it's a movie you can only watch once...much like Schindler's List was for me.
Fantastic movie, can only handle it once.
11:02 That's not screamo. That's singing with a lot of vocal fray, it's singing taken to the very edge, but it's still singing. It's not screamo.
This song is based off of the book “Johnny Got His Gun”, which is about a WWI soldier who lost his arms, jaw, legs, and external features and senses. It gets to the point where he wants to kill himself because he is imprisoned within himself.
It’s cool to see you guys grow and expand your minds with different kinds of music. You guys are very intelligent and I respect you.
I wouldn’t say Intelligent lol
If you quit talking over the music you'd know what was going on
In all fairness, these guys didn't get what the song was based on and what it is about. That is why we, as elder statesmen, to enlightening these guys because I love the delight they have with hearing our generations music. And once they understand what the song is about, they will appreciate it even more. Keep up the good work!
12:45 that’s the appropriate reaction to a Metallica solo

Metallica - Lyrics:
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, help me
Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine
Has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

"I can play the guitar like that" run off-reaction: gold
13:06 “you could really feel the anger” 😂😭

This is not screamo! This is Metal!
Imagine!
You guys really should look up what the song is really about and review it again. It’s a really powerful statement
Yes; the mosh pits can be crazy. I saw them in ‘18 at ACL and got dropped on my neck crowd surfing when the breakdown of this song happened🤦♂️
Databyter
There is a much much deeper meaning in this song than you guys were prepared for.
Edit: From a former soldier's wife, if you give little thought to the military on Veteran's Day, let it be about those wounded.🙏
Also, Five Finger Death Punch has a song called, "Wrong Side Of Heaven" that is excellent.
They explained it but you kept taking over it.
Cocaines a hell of a drug
Check it out live!!! They play it even faster live, it's amazing!
I heard it was. I remember Korn did a rendition for MTV Icons.
