  • Today we take a look at Conservative Party Conference 2022, The International Convention Centre, 0 Broad St, Birmingham B1 2EA.
We have a cycle / walk around and get a feel for how heightened security is with many VIP's inside the building.
We speak to many people and see 2 police convoys, one of which steered to the left to block my way along the road.
    Enjoy!

Or, stay away from the close protection escort and make way for emergency vehicles. its in their training, and within the law. if they let a guy with a rucksack get close and blow up a VIP there would be outcry. looks like they were doing their job to me, and the guy was not hurt. I'm sure he quite enjoyed the drama and the attention.

@@mdmoore100 Come on... DJ wasnt gonna catch the convoy driving off at speed - the VIPs had already passed - if DJ was gonna make his move he had already long missed his chance - and they could have easily got in front of him and cut him off at the signs blocking the left lane up ahead (even so by which time the VIPs would have been long gone). I get where you are coming from but that move wasn't necessary. Operational police are trained to use their discretion correct? If it was that big of a deal why wasn't DJ informed or prevented from cycling after the convoy prior to doing so? Either way DJ was carrying out a lawful activity in a lawful place and should not expect to be nearly rammed by a police vehicle - the onus is on the police to prevent him being in that situation in the first place OR to use their discretion a little more effectively - it's on the police one way or another. Bully boy move that was unnecessary.

    • @Nigfis

@@charlesdarwen3683 Such as letting him go on his way as the convoy accelerated away. Opening the window (I know, gasp, right?) and asking him to slow down or just to get his attention. A blast on the horn would have had the stupid old Sergent doing what he was paid to do and slowing you down. Now lets not be a drama queen. And yes, before you ask, I served during the 70's when the ira were doing their thing. I also did a little close protection thing. SO, if I had opened the window and tried to get his attention, possibly backed up by a blast from the horn/blues and twos, and he still didn't show any response, THEN I would consider other, more physical routes. Even the passenger could literally have opened his window and took a hold of him if it was that urgent to slow him. There was absolutely no need to try to run him off the road. If it were me, a claim would already be on its way from my legalizer.

I remember reading in a diving magazine many years ago about a dive club that used a disused flooded quarry for practice, they placed several items in the quarry so when diving you would have something to look at and explore.
The police got involved and sent police divers down to retrieve the items for some reason but the club found out that police health and safety would only allow their divers down to a certain depth so the club took more items to the quarry and put them just a few metres deeper than the police were allowed to dive. 🤪👍❤️🇬🇧

Some other stories I heard aswell is there was atleast 1 death a year there whilst dive training since it opened.
& the pub/restaurant/club on the site also used too have a glass dancefloor suspended above the actual water of the quarry. & it did have one when I visited but that's over 20years now since I last went there.

Great video, one of your best so far! I enjoyed your flat refusals for probing questions and the the odd awkward pauses intimating you to 'jog on', even better was you breezing past coppers after the convoy, and... I dunno... 'forcefully being unobstructed': just 'nope, I'm doing what I'm allowed to do, leave me alone!'. Honestly, my favourite part was your genuinely interesting interaction with the not-marine-police. It was clear that everyone was on their best behaviour for the occasion, but that guy really interacted and gave you the time of day. Really nice to see.
I thought that squirrel might be a hybrid of red and grey, given the colouration and both occurring in the same habitat, but it turns out they cannot interbreed! Interesting. I thought they might at least be able to have infertile offspring (like mules), but I guess they're too genetically divergent.

Of course they will claim some sort of threat, but I'm sure a suicide nutcase would be just as capable of doing damage with a vest as with a bicycle.

Good insight near the end of this vid, you chat to another news gatherer( full marks to him for his friendly helping manner ). This highlights the challenge faced by all media news gatherers. It is mostly not all pre arranged press calls but instead its hanging around and reacting quickly, you need to be a bit pushy ,polite and willing to jostle for a comment and or picture. When we see the finished item broadcast or printed its far to easy to think that everybody just gets spoken to in turn.If you miss the sound bite you will be bitten by the editor ! Another point is that although security was tight no one hustled DJ as the cordon team had been briefed to expect press.

I’m by no means a fan of this Government but the reason that marked car pushed you off the road is you cycled into a secure convoy. If you had been slightly later the rear car would have a sign saying keep back. They have no idea of you intentions and are paid to keep the principles safe.

I wonder how many well intentioned individuals chipping in here have:
Had to search underneath their car on a daily basis before driving to work.
Had to search every vehicle that approaches them for an IED whilst knowing you could unwitting trigger it whilst doing so.
Been at work when news comes through of a fellow serviceman being shot through the windscreen whilst waiting a stop light from less than 6ft away.
Remembers the day when colleague was murdered in his car along with his 6 month old daughter on the back seat by people with AK47s.
Remembers when an IED was hidden in the frame of a bicycle left against a fence at a barracks in Dusseldorf.
I would imagine those haven't, might not appreciate the concept of maintaining a security perimeter around an asset who is your primary job to protect, as it is to protect your colleagues and very importantly members of the public nearby who unfortunately have a tendency end up being acceptable collateral damage if some nasty individual has a go and it all goes pear-shaped. The big difference these days is that perpetrators of these events are prepared to be martyrs (unlike the good old days with the Provos bless em) for their cause which means the rules of engagement are modified accordingly, like not having to maintain 1.5m distance from passing a cyclist whose intent is clearly to get too close for some bizarre reason.
I think very little of the current crop of political leaders, regardless of the colour of the rosette they wear. That said, the office they hold as result of democratic process rather than the individual is what is being protected here against those who would use violence to subvert it, no matter what their persuasion, policies or popularity. To willingly approach a convoy bristling with a load of tooled-up coppers is just plain barking mad. I'm all for holding public servants to account for their actions and applaud those who do, I just wouldn't put my safety or that of others at risk in doing so these days.
