- I've finally made it. Now you can 3D print my hidden blade out of PLA!
Print settings are the same as for PETG (except for printing temperatures, of course).

Thank you for making this PLA version, I almost got the original printed with PLA working, but I just couldn't do it, and I don't have any PETG, so this is great to see, although I do like the thought of all the parts being 3D printed except the nylon cord, so I'll eventually get some PETG and try out the original again, your designs are awesome!
How did you make the incision to hook the rubber band to the base?
I tried to purchase the files so I could 3d print my own but cults is being stupid and refusing my payment.

For any of you that are having trouble making the print move smoother, here’s one solution, clean off the piston. Now it’s working almost every time for me. Let me know if you have any problems and/or questions.

I printed only spring by petg and other by pla before, but the petg spring have not enough elasticity to pop out the blade(in my case). Also it was broken after operating few times.
This time, rubber band works smoothly! I'm using 2 strings of rubber band.
I think my rubber bands lack elasticity, so I tied 2 bands to strengthen. then works!
Thank you for adding a PLA version, next to the PETG version. And a very clever solution for the PLA problem 👍🏻.
Great idea, the mechanism reminds of the main spring of a watch, I too thought I could use it to make a hidden blade, but never went through with it, I’m jealous, great concept!!

I am quite anxious because printing all these parts are quite time consuming, currently trying to get a crankshaft that works alittle better. Also trying to sand down my current blade cover hoping that will help with its free movement when fully assembled

The crack is not rotating properly and the connecting rod keeps disconnecting. Can you please help me to solve the problem . There is a tight at crank shaft

It’s really cool. A good starter one is the Ender 3 (in my opinion) because it works well, isn’t super expensive, and is overall good for beginners (like myself)

i had some issues with the petg version and tried to modify it to also use a rubberband, i also had a problem with the pulley lifting up, but it looks like the pla update solves all my problems :D trying to print it now

Good job. Got to admit - smart design. Have a question though. I have the petg version and it was great. However after 5000 opening and closing sequences(so much fun btw) the petg spring weakened(expected) and it no longer rotates itself enough in order to catch the crankshaft pins. I could just print the pieces over and over again but this takes some time. My question is: Can't I print an entire new PLA version body(with the rubber band notch modification), PLA version crankshaft and PLA version piece that rotates and comes back thanks to the rubber band and on this put the PETG Blade and gears. Maybe I will have to print also the part that connects the sliding part with the crankshaft.
Edit: Ofc in case that the blade module is the same as the petg version. If there are any changes it won't work. And also if the rubber band breaks it is easier to replace it compared to printing and sanding a nee spring

I've managed to complete the assembly, but everytime i try to use it, the connecting rod always disconnects from the crankshaft. Any fixes for this?
Hi! The files were successfully tested over 100 times so if something goes wrong it’s just a matter of appropriate settings (usually the reason is a “flow” percentage). Please read a troubleshooting PDF guide which is included in the folder with STL files, probably you’ll find a solution you need. If not please contact me via Instagram (sonndersmith) and describe your issue more specifically. UA-cam comment section is the worst place to ask me a technical question because I rarely check it.

Question, are you gonna make one that has a safety lock on it? So that in cosplays, I don't accidentally stab myself or someone?
Hey there, I recently finished printing this, and assembled it, but im experiencing an issue when I have the cover on, were it becomes difficult to pull the ring and wont fully extend the blade, which doesnt happen when the cover is off. Do you have any ways or ideas of how to fix it?

Question: how durable/ tuff is the blade? If I try poking a hole in a cardboard box will the blade be damaged or would it be fine?

So im guessing apart from the Rubberband everything else is EXACTLY the same?
Hi! The other parts look the same, but they have different tolerances and thickness of flexible elements (because PLA is more rigid than PETG).
This has been the only hidden blade I have printed that has been consistently functional. I was wondering do you intend on improving more on this? I would love a slimmer or smaller version.
I’m glad to hear that, thank you! I’m going to make a mechanism for single blade HB versions, like Black Flag or Phantom. It’s going to be very different from the two-linked mechanics, but it will be even simpler to print and assemble. Then I would like to stylize the mechanisms for different game series appearances.

Hey just bought it and printed it. Mechanism working great until i close everything. Looks like the small moving bar inside get stuck against the upper case and dont have the room to go through the hole. Any solution ?

I bought the folder, print with pla, but it’s not the hidden blade, there’s some piece of it, but it’s absolutely not what you show. Do you know why??

your sonndersmith logo kept messing the print up so i just erased the text. sorry 🤷
Okay, but this issue is a sign of an adhesion problem, printing some other parts (like a blade carriage cover) could also be problematic in this case. I described this problem and the way to fix it in a PDF guide included in a folder with printable files.

I have a question about where's the locking system to prevent the blade slide back when you thrust it into object??

That’s the great question I’ve been waiting for! Trying to reduce the number of parts of the mechanism I managed to imbed a locking system without adding extra parts, just by modifying existing ones. If you turn a connecting rod upside down you’ll see a sloping ledge close to the back end, it enters into engagement with a similar ledge of a base part when the blade reaches forward position. When you poke the blade into something, the connecting rod starts to bend upward, but the hooks prevent it. That’s how the locking system works. It’s an important but almost invisible part of the mechanism. Thank you for the question!

Tried making this with the same printer settings but every part isnt going even remotely as smooth as yours. The crankshaft just does not work at all. Cool blade tho
Hi! Sorry for the delay, I rarely check comments on UA-cam. A sad fact about 3D printing is that different 3D printers can give different results at the same settings. Difference is very minor and usually it’s not critical, but for precise mechanisms like that it’s crucial.

How much does it weigh after printing?
Hi! It weighs about 85 grams after printing, if you use recommended settings.
Haveing problems with both versions. Can't get it to operate correctly. The dial doesn't want to spin all the way around or the first gear part doesn't move much bc it's stuck and i just don't know. Any help would be appreciated
same problem here basically. the mechanism spins ok when the blade and crankshaft etc arent in place but when its half assembled like around 2:20 then it just seems to jam up

How would this work printing it with ABS?
Hi! I haven’t tested it with ABS but if you are going to do that I recommend using a file set which was made for PLA (the folder named “Syndicate_Hidden_Blade_PLA”). I can give you the files for free if you want, just contact me via Instagram (sonndersmith).
