I get a lot of questions about my gear. You can read about it on the website here: www.shutupandplay.ca/gear.html
Thanks for watching. Cheers
OMG man, you have such a perfect control of the pitch while bending/vibrato Jesus, So perfect
Leonardo Anchieta Thanks Leonardo.
+Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials
I've been playing for a while and I never realized how slightly off I am with my bends. This solo has REALLY exposed that fact.
... and envious vibrato technique...maybe u could do session on vibrato skills? Can’t seem to master no matter what I try
Who needs tabs when you got a great teacher, this is hands down one of the best solo tutorials I've seen so far. Thanks for the lesson :)
+xxcatherinengn98xx i can no longer read tabs. and i use to read them like music sheets. yeah, with the teacher you get it, then u practice everyday and you wont forget. it becomes second nature. awesome comment. you give me hope also.

You never fail to nail the intricacies of the parts that make these lessons so valuable to anyone interested in playing the right way, or developing skills necessary to be more than just competent. I am more than competent and impressed somebody is teaching excellence.
I was always so scared from learning that solo because it seems so intimidating but you really made it easy and simple and not scary so thank you!
Wow! Love all your stuff, the advice, playing etc, but something about this video is really special.
I'm always amazed at how well you pick up and demonstrate all the little nuances on songs I thought I already knew like the back of my hand.
You have brought back the joy to my playing, kind of feels like it did when I was a teenager in '78 and couldn't wait to get home and pickup my guitar.
Thank you!
Mike Oriente Hey Mike, wow thanks so much for the really nice comment bro! I really have a good time making the videos. Mostly because I really love the music and I have a lot of respect for the guitarists who wrote and played the parts. It's great to know that folks are getting something out of the lessons though so thanks again and good luck with your playing. cheers
I love your style of playing in all your videos, you have a controlled/patient approach and make it look very easy! I know from my own playing that none of these licks are easy, my playing feels so rushed at times but watching you I feel like I need to relax and get more feel in to my playing - thanks for the videos!
Simon Rourke Hey Simon, thanks so much for the kind words bud. You're right about relaxing! I think that rushing is pretty common with a lot of musicians, especially drummers. IMHO, the better musicians tend to play behind the beat and the less experienced ones play ahead of the beat. Sometimes it's good to make a conscious effort to play a little bit back, like putting on the brakes right? That's what makes guys like John Bonham SO great. He was way back of the beat. Thanks for watching and good luck with your guitar playing. cheers
Absolutely right, I tend to rush and play ahead of the beat, just got to relax and be more patient! Thanks for your efforts on the videos, cheers.
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials I couldn't agree with you more on the point about drummers getting ahead of the beat! The drummer in the current band I'm with speeds up the beat on almost every song. Trying to point that out to him gives him the feeling that he's being personally criticized. However, revisiting the the original recording of songs REALLY opens our eyes and makes us realize we all get ahead of the beat from time to time. And playing live emphasizes the need to watch out for the "adrenaline rush" that typically causes drummers to speed up the beat unnecessarily.
Amp settings?
I reckon your gonna have a lot more hits on this given the release of the movie Bohemian Rhapsody.
I, for one am going to learn this PERFECT lesson just because it's such an iconic solo.
Keep up the fantastic effort you put into your lessons. (The best on the net bar none)
Cheers, Ray from Australia
This is, by far, the most accurate version I've found. Thank you!
Wow. Yet again another incredible lesson. Your tone is amazing and you really demonstrate how the sustain is in your fingers. It's so easy to watch an amazing player like you and get discouraged, but your lessons make better playing and great sound seem accessible. Your lessons are really helping me. Thank you.
Noah Clements Hey Noah, thanks a lot! It's really great to hear that the vids are helping you bro! Good luck with your playing, and don't be discouraged, it really all comes down to how much time you put in. We're all just "works in progress" right? cheers
Brian May is da man. Go Brian, ishhhh yo birfday.
Thank you man! you are truly amazing!!
Really great lesson on this solo! You are absolutely correct, the speed lick is the easy part. The struggle is nailing the bends with vibrato (I sound like crap, but you nailed it!). Appreciate your dedication to providing great lessons. I'll now hop over and make a donation via PayPal (cheers!) - Steve
sham609 Thanks again for your generous contribution! I really appreciate it. cheers
You have great lessons! Perfect pace and the right amount of verbal instruction.
Thanks!
I'm sort of a beginner and can't play most of your lessons I still watch and enjoy your videos it seems you pick the best selection of songs
Ethannnn Thanks a lot Ethan! Everyone was a beginner at first! Just stick with it and you'll get there, it all comes down to how much time you put in. cheers bro
Oh man, awesome licks at 9:27! And a great lesson overall :)
The part you are explaining at around 11:10. A lot of tabs/lessons I've looked at have that as a regular bend, and I have been convinced that it is in fact a pre-bend, which your video confirms. It just sounds better that way to my ears. Thanks for the great videos!
thank you very much for your special lessons!!!!!! Greetings from cloudy Athens,Greece!!!!!!!
VasilisGeo72 Thanks a lot bro! Nice to hear from Greece. cheers
Thanks man! Best UA-cam channel for accurate lessons.
You play everything so well.
Ellio1862 Thanks a lot Ellio, I really appreciate it! cheers
Thank you so much for all your hard work, creating and posting these videos. It's very much appreciated. This version was perfect and I've watched a number of videos on this solo!
Thank you Paul. If you're getting something from my videos, please consider supporting what I do. www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
Cheers, Andy
Always high quality tutorials from you!
Another belter of a lesson, thanks brother.
also helps if you have Vox amps, set with diff millisecond delays,
Wow, I had no idea...
You nailed it.
Thanks for the lesson! 8)
Arachnoscribe Thanks bud.
Great lesson, Thank you
Steven Browne Thanks a lot Stephen. cheers
Wow, you captured the feel of the solo really well with those bends. Would love to hear you cover Van Halen's "Panama" or maybe just the guitar solo. Again, well done.
I’m currently working on “Hitch a Ride “ by Boston,30 min. + and this one, short and sweet!😂 a little over 1/2 way on the Boston one & already want to start this. Great lesson, yet again & the tone on this is impeccable, don’t know how much you work on the different tones for different tunes but , impressive!
CooooooL
That attack...beautiful.
Great tutorial. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Awesome tutorial and guitarist.totally inspiring.great teaching.thank you!
Awesome!
You sir, are awesome! Really great video!
Brilliant lesson, as always.
Great tuition, lovely playing.
The sound is tasty too.
Yohai Shelef Thanks a lot Yohai!
Well done.Perfect pitch in your bendings and perfect playing.
Congrats
Pablo Cabrera Thanks Pablo, this is one of the hardest solos to get sounding right for me. I appreciate your comment a lot bro. cheers
Genial!!
Oh my God this is just perfection correct sound and the best teacher on youtube👏👏👏
Thank you for the advice. I'll work on it.
as a begginer i lost you at the lick part couldn't do it to save my life, wish i could read tab :) but as that has been said your really good and teaching. :D
Gareth edwards Thanks a lot Gareth, this isn't a really good beginner type of song, but you will be able to play this down the road. IMHO, anyone can play anything, it just comes down to how much time you can put in, and that comes down to how badly you want to be able to play! Good luck with your guitar playing bro. cheers
Appreciate the video very much, you sometimes don't realize how much a teacher helps after you learn by tabs/ear. I couldn't figure out the timing properly :)
By far the best video for this great solo. thx :)
Dude you are always my go to when stuck thank thank thank you so much for all your hard work !!!!!!!!!!!
I realize that you did this lesson 7 years ago, and as usual, a great education --- I saw a video where Brian May was showing a close up of this solo and he started on the Aflat at 6th Fret on D string where your lesson and others start on the 8th fret. Did Brian tune his guitar to account for this?
Awesome! Thank you!!!
Roger Jr. You're welcome Roger. Thanks for watching.
Gracias amigo i living in tijuana
You nailed it, just like the last video :) I just had a Wayne's World moment with this one! Awesome stuff.
Guitar God Secrets Hahaha, Wayne's world is SO funny! Thanks for watching! cheers
Just what i needed when i needed it! Thanks man
MARiA Thanks for watching Maria!
Great video... can you do a vid on the skynyrd version of call me the breeze
Phil Dail Hey Phil, well, while I admire the guitarists in the band I'm not a big fan of their music, sorry ! cheers
Wow! Just Wow. The Best Guitar Tutorial channel in UA-cam.👍❤
Superb Lesson!!!
Thank you!!!
Mark Love Thanks a lot Mark, I really appreciate all your positive support bro!
LeaL wonderful lesson. Thank You for that!
Uwe Schramm Thanks a lot Uwe. cheers
Best teacher ever!!!😊🔥
Awesome tutorial and your pitch on the bends is great, but I wasn't really clear on which notes you were hitting after the vibrato on g15 and I was hoping you could clarify that for me
+Rush2112 Thanks bud. Once I make a lesson I really don't think about the tune anymore haha! So really the best thing is to just watch it a bunch of times. You'll get it, don't just listen for frets, use your ears to figure it out too right. cheers
Hey - I have never tried this, but wanted to see if you have or know if it would conceivably work : I have read a few times that to get close to the Brian May & Tom Scholz multi-tracked "thick" guitar "sound", you need like at least 2 delays (maybe 3 ?) and have them all off set by a milisecond or so - all working in unison - so the guitar signal (as it passes through) has a slight delay on each, creating a "chorus" of guitars (and it probably compresses a bit as well). Your thoughts...?
***** Sounds reasonable, most guys use a delay of some kind on their rig because it adds depth and is almost like a kind of doubler effect so by using 2 or more I could see that really fattening things up. cheers
I always struggle with the vibrato on a bent string, end up losing the pitch of the note, so I tend not to express the note as much and it loses the feel...great lesson thx!
THE CHARLIE POUND Hey bud, yeah bent string vibrato has always been my Achilles heel too! It's something that I work on every time I pick up the guitar. Some days it's great and other days it just sucks! cheers bro
good job thx
Daaaaamn
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! Thank You for SHARING
Theodore Alvis Thanks a lot Theodore.
You're vibrato is perfect.. reminds me of Zakk Wylde-Aggressive but controlled very well
Damn, dude you are so good!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly your take on the solo, is easily comparable to Brian's may's. I love your sound.
Nice job love it.
reso1349 Thanks a lot Reso.
May I pls know, what's the guitar effect used? heavy metal or distortion?
OD (OVERDRIVE)
Would you mind listing your effects and settings?
(Please pardon if I missed it in the comments...)
Arachnoscribe Hey bud, I list all my gear in the description box of the videos. cheers
Hi, you r a great player n teacher. I improve every time I visit .
This is a great tutorial. Thanks! I even like your "Don't be intimidated by (8:00)" part. I'm working on this song now. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Michael Schenker, but his solo from U.F.O.'s (live) version of "Only You Can Rock Me" reminds me of this song: emotional with a few fast licks that aren't as difficult
as you think.
spicykimchi1 Thanks! MS is a phenomenal player.
Anyone have a link to a how to for the solo ish guitar part after the Super high 'for me' part
Another fantastic lesson!!!!! Thanks also for the information on what gear you are using.
BookofIsaiah Thanks a lot bro!
❤
nice song with the guitar.....thanks for the lesson
Horst574 Hey Horst, you're welcome bro. Thanks for watching! cheers
wowza!!!! awesome playing!!
your such a great player thx
David Rivers Thanks a lot David!
I'm more comfortable playing with my fingers, would you recommend I start learning with a pick? (been playing ~4 months)
+danielek Hey Daniel, well, some songs are better with a pick, some are better with the fingers. Ideally, it's good to be able to do both, especially when you're learning. As you progress, you'll figure out what works for you. Jeff Beck and Lindsey Buckingham don't use picks, just their fingers. cheers
Robby Krieger is another great finger picker! If you can master finger picking that's the one I would go for, I personally play with a pick because I consider it's easier when playing fast parts, but being able to do it with your fingers is a beautiful way to play. I'd say the only downside is there are certain plucking sounds that can only be achieved with a pick
....and Mark Knopfler
To think I posted this comment a year ago, time really flies. That being said I have made some significant improvement to my guitar playing. Both with and without a pick.
Yea! it´s incredible how much you can achieve in that time with some passion for the instrument, keep rocking!
Awesome video sir and very good lesson about bending.👌 I guess I'm sharp or flat most of the time...
"It's Wayne's world, it's party time, it's excellent!"
Hi everyone , great lesson man !!!! Just wanted to ask all the guitarists out there for a little help , I've been playing a lot of gypsy jazz classical and a bit of country but starting to get in the rock kind of style and buying a guitar soon , just wanted to know if I can get that kind of sound with a semi hollow Ibanez ? (Artcore as83) Thanks guys !
nah not really if u only gonna play rock a les paul or a epiphone
good lesson
what did you tune your stings to?
Joey Adams Just standard tuning Joey.
What model of a Les Paul are you using? Or if anyone can tell me!
Jesse Gonzales Hey Jesse, if you look in the description box I list all my gear. Thanks for watching. cheers
What guitar strings do you use
Army Of Tekkerz I list my gear in the description box of the videos. cheers
Perfect cover, exactly like even studio versions! The same eg. about solo of Whole lotta love by the same Author. Having such lessons and some degree of personal profficiency it is possibe to play these solos without tabs and listening records 100 times, very good teacher not only player! BTW: I wonder why switch is on 2 humbuckers on (often I see switched only 1 of them) and why the humbuckers have no cover, is it newest, better version of Gibson pickups?
+Marek Wilczkowski Hey Marek, I list my gear in the description box of the videos. Hope that helps. cheers
Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials
Thank you, I didn't read it. Cheers
Very good........Italy
Im new on your channel but Its one of the best i've ever seen
What guitar model is that?

There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. Cheers
How do u get that tone? I'm guessing that's a Gisbson
I love Ittttt
Adrian Cubilla Thanks a lot Adrian!
Hi man! I really enjoyed your lesson! I owe you a beer (and will donate it on your paypal);) is there a chance of getting the tab? i really would like to have this part written down... cheers
+plup289 Thanks bud. I'm not a tab guy though. cheers
5nminutes in and i already give up omg
Do a cover of the whole song pls thx
You reply to viewer comments? I think you got a new sub my good sir.
mY guiTaR dOeSnT sOuNd LiKe ThAt
yO nEeD a LeS pAuL mAn! lol
Wow, amazing video. Really liked the explanation of how bends take the guitar from being like a piano to a violin, as bending requires you to find the right pitch.
That tone...
Michael DeGrassi Thanks a lot Michael!
10:00
Every time I bend I get so much string noise from the other strings. Don't know what I'm doing wrong!
+Bowhead31 Try muting the tonally low strings with the palm of the right hand and the high strings with fingers of either the right or left. Learning to mute well is a lot of work so dont worry. and get a guitar teacher
BANG. FRIGGIN. ON.
Allen May Haha, thanks Allen!
I love to play and teach guitar but when I post videos like this I get copyright strikes. Did you get nailed for this one?
you can do the fandango
I broke my strings during the lesson bc I tried to bend and 2 strings broke😭😭😭😭😭 but I tuned my guitar are u using a special tuning i cat do vibrato on my guitar
