  • Here we go with the start of a 4 part mini series to have a look at some of the superb mowers Worx have available on the market right now! starting with the wg730, 20v - you may laugh at its small size at just 30cm, but with a brushless motor it really throws its weight around more like a 40v performance and run time that is equal to it too! in fact although Worx state a recommended size of 200 square meters of area for this, though I found it covers 100 square meters without depleting even 20% of the included 4ah pro battery meaning 500+ square meters is not out of the question from this tiny compact machine! though that said its fairly small collection box and narrow cut width may prohibit that from being recommended! its incredibly light weight at just a smidge over 10kg (22lbs) including the battery. being compact means just that and it can fold down to a tiny footprint of less than 350mm x 400mm! 3 height settings are available with a slightly awkward independent front and rear height adjustment - though this is built to a price point of just £200 so some compromise is expected - that said a typical user has "their setting" and rarely adjusts from it, I dare say on the max height of 70mm it could tackle the primary spring cut with very little issue too, all round a very nice compact lightweight machine set to give good reliable basic service with a no compromise stance, it even looks good too!!

Well done review. I've got the US cousin of that mower, the WG779. It's 40 volt and brushed, but very close in dimensions. I have a long and very steep ditch easement, and use this light little guy to make it less of a pain in the ass to mow. You can basically throw it around with one hand to get it in some tight quarters.

We also have the wg779e 40v brushed "silent assasin" (6db less noise makes it seem half as loud due to the weird way sound works) on test and the video will be going up this coming weekend. We also then have the wg749 40v brushless self propelled and the beast that is the wg761 80v self propelled metal deck behemoth with headlight on test too!

It feels like it is unnecessarily loud.

Yeah I think most of the noise comes from its small size and rigid design, it creates a sound box effect along with its rigid collector box doesn't do it much favours, but then again it is brushless and features a flat blade so very inefficient relatively.

I bought it yesterday and Used it today the first time. When turning the blade manually it feels very rough. Almost like it is broken. I have tried Einhell and Stihl mowers from my neighbors, they are considerably more silent. Thankfully i will only use it very rarely as my Landroid will do the job normally and I got a Worx powerdrill in addition with two Batteries. I was just very happy to hear that this noise profile seems to be stock and it is not broken.

@Mobimanie it's direct drive i.e the motor shaft is the bit that attaches to the blade, the wg730 is designed as a cheap mower hence the rather god awful height adjustment but most will set it once and never reset so it kind of makes it OK, and it does only use one battery...... its kinda cool when you consider the price and its brushless too, but if you want more mower you have to part with more cash for it, the wg173 I recently reviewed makes a great strimmer, edger and mini mower with the wheel acting as a single height non adjustable pivot that with a bit of skill brings variation in the cut height.
