Huge selling point for someone like me is I can use those Milwaukee batteries on my power tools. And those batteries are great for table saws miter saws rear handle 7 1/4 etc. plus I have loads of Milwaukee batteries and in a pinch I could throw a couple 8.0Ho right?
Easily. The 8.0’s are great and can handle a yard on their own. With my 12’s I can cut my yard twice depending how much high lift I run. With the 8’s I doubt you could cut twice.
Absolutely. I use 6's and 8's on mine. However, they do not perform as well as 12's. I get less than half performance with 6's. But I have about 0.3 acres of actual grass, so the 12's can generally finish the job. If I mow every week, no problems. My daughter will actually jog behind the mower and it keeps up with her.

That makes a huge difference especially if you’re already on the platform which I assume a majority of people that buy a Milwaukee mower would already be on that platform. You can’t use your Ryobi 18 V batteries on that mower or vice versa mower battery on your tools. With the door rapid charger and two batteries that makes that more five $600
I bought my Milwaukee mower this Spring and I really like it, but I'm disappointed in the battery life. I live in Indiana and have found that one charge can get me through about 1/3 acre before requiring recharge. Then it's a 2 hour charge time (the review is incorrect in saying they recharge in the double charge in 1 hour) before I can finish. If we have a week of rain and I haven't been able to mow in that time, then the situation is even worse. i've just resigned myself to purchasing an additional set of batteries for next year. Great mower overall - fantastic power, the non-powered rolling resistance is truly a benefit, and a very good ergonomics. And, as you say, the batteries are part of the system and were the reason I replaced my other gas-powered lawn tools (trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, ...).
Yeah, I have a craftsman cordless mower and use their tools so I have quite a few batteries. Not saying Craftsman is amazing but for the price it does great.
Not a fan of the discharge on the Milwaukee being on the back. There are times with my Toro personal pays, where I push with my right hand and stand on the left side as I walk it due to some obstructions. That wouldn't work out well with the Milwaukee. That being said, my Toro personal pace is over 20 years old and still working fine, so I don't see an electric one in my future. Not to mention, my father gave me a brand new Toro personal pace a few years ago that still goes unused. LoL
2 months ago , I was in a really bad car accident. The surgeon said I was dead for 42 minutes. When I saw Heaven there were Milwaukee Tools there, and ONLY Milwaukee Tools. But there was a KFC there. 😀
I just bought the Ryobi cross cut, but it is not the whisper one. It will be delivered tomorrow. It has 5 years on the mower and I think 3 years on the battery.
The ugly Ryobi seemed over engineered to me so I went with the Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is a simple reinterpretation of a classic mower. Its a beast that eats with all the power you'll need!
I am a big Milwaukee guy but I just can’t see spending that cash, it is priced correctly I feel but there next gen will have to be cheaper, maybe have a plastic deck like the Egos. I thank you though, that Ryobi is a nice unit and might change me from a Ego.
I used to hate the idea of a plastic deck on electric mowers. But it's not the crap plastic that's brittle and weak that you typically think of. The weight savings you get makes the mowers a lot easier to maneuver. It also will never rust. I have an older Ryobi 40v mower for about 5 years now and the thing still looks brand new. I don't baby it either, and I like that I can throw it around because it's so light.
I would not want the discharge configuration on the Milwaukee, there are times when you make a turn that that type of discharge would be pointing directly at you.
neither. i have a Toro 21386 and i can cut 3 average yards on 1 tank of gas. its gonna be a loooong time before electric can match gas in terms of stored energy. stop pushing this electric garbage. its currently only a drain on our poorly designed electrical infrastructure.
Good luck “putting your hands on both mowers” at the stores. They are typically bolted at chest height and no floor models to actually feel the ergonomics or test the features. I guess the theory is you have to buy it to test it…which means many returns in all likelihood.
I love the ryobi as I bought self propelled and love the speed switch . I’m a Milwaukee guy 100 percent and have lots of tools but two batteries at once ? In the future I don’t think 18 volts are going to cut it ?
I'll keep my Ryobi mower just for the price of the Milwaukee. The Ryobi does the job for me. One thing I don't like is the weight but stuff like how fast or slow it takes for the blade to get to full speed doesn't matter. I'm already in the platform and I love it. Also I can switch one battery to the next I love that

I have a different ryobi model but still a 21" self propelled 40v. I also have the multi trimmer tool and the whisper leaf blower. I already invested in Milwaukee m12 tool line. If the m18 had come out earlier I would have gone the m18 route. My ryobi has been pretty good. It's not as powerful as my old mower so I have to mow once a week instead of every 2 weeks. I can get 2 uses each charge on the 6mah battery. It's been a great system this season and I highly recommend it. Every tool is lightweight and super easy just to grab and use. No maintenance and no cranking required. I just use the blower to clean the mower after each use.
The "best" mower depends on the purchaser's specific situation. If you live in an upper upper class neighborhood and still wish to do your own lawn care, you'll be fine with the Milwaukee. Your neighbors won't be jealous and some might even feel sorry for you that you're still cutting your own grass. However, if you live in an average neighborhood in the United States, your super expensive mower marks your home as one with expensive belongings. Proceed with caution. Solution: Replace the Milwaukee logos with black and red paint and install Black and Decker or Worx logos! Remember: You purchased your mower to cut grass--Not to be a tool snob. Pride go-ith before a fall. If you're using the Milwaukee mower professionally, this mower could serve you well. Painting the mower yellow may discourage potential thieves. A red and black mower is easier to steal! Rebrand the Milwaukee with green-yellow paint and Ryobi badges! Now we're talking! Thanks, for another great video!
I always spray paint my lawn equipment with pink and orange paint to make them look like junk. My EGO mower has 3 pink painted wheels, 1 painted black. hahahaha But I like the idea of different stickers. Will have to fire up the Cricut and make some new logos.
Saw the Milwaukee at 990 in home Depot, it comes with 2×12amp batteries that are 250US each if bought separately. Those batteries will also be handy for my M18 chain saw, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, battery inverter, trimmer, etc, etc.
@Shop Tool Reviews that's the one major point you didn't touch on. The batteries for the Milwaukee can be used in your other Milwaukee tools of you're in that line. And many of us do own other Milwaukee tools that can use either the 12ah batteries or the 8ah batteries. So that is one major plus to the Milwaukee mower. The Ryobi 40 volt system batteries are really only good for other Ryobi 40 volt OPE. Which really limits what else you can use them for. That one factor alone might be worth the extra price of the Milwaukee. Great review otherwise.
@@El_Diablo_LI I mean, Ryobi makes a lot of 40v tools as well. Not the exact same as Ryobi makes even more 18v tools, but I don't think it's a huge upside or downside to either line, just depends on what ecosystem you are already in or want to be in.
@@BrettBreeden Not the same, the Milwaukee M18 line is crazy, Shop vacs, chain saw, pole saw, hammer drill, impact, flood lamps, everything works with M18. The M18 batteries are really 20 volt batteries when you get XC and HD versions, but work on all 18 volt equipment.
Both tools appear to be quite impressive. In my opinion, it may be more practical to opt for the Ryobi tool, considering the significant price difference of approximately $400 to $500 compared to the Milwaukee tool, which is priced at around $1100. Nevertheless, both tools seem capable of fulfilling their intended purposes effectively.
I'm really amazed at these battery operated mowers by top brands. I remember vividly mowing my yard 20 years ago with a small gas operated noise maker. I hope battery operated mowers are the future but prices need to come down A LOT before mass adaptation. Thanks for another phenomenal review! Cheers!
I had the same opinion before I got into the electric mowers, but about 1.5 years ago a week before Christmas, we were gearing up for the first big snow in NY. I walked into a Lowe's for some snow removal items, and sure enough, their 80 volt Kobalt self propelled mower was on sale for $169 with a 6ah battery and charger. They had 2 left. I purchase one of them. I also was able to get their 80 volt string trimmer as a kit with a battery and charger for about $100 a week later. The batteries are interchangeable. I was so tempted to go back and get the 2nd mower for that price because the battery alone would normally cost around $225. 3 months later, when EGO switched from Home Depot to Lowe's, Home Depot was blowing out those mowers. This was in February of that year. I was able to get the EGO Select Cut Self Propelled mower with the 7.5ah battery for $350. They had the non self propelled for only $300. My point is, you can find some fantastic deals on battery operated mowers if you look for them at the right time. Obviously YMMV but if you are in the north east or north Midwest and look around for them in December, January or February, there's a good chance you'll find a great deal on one as long as you do your homework and jump on one when you see a great deal. You can always return it in a week or two if you have buyer's remorse, but great deals typically don't last and supplies will be limited. So if you think you've found a great deal, grab it, take it home, do your research, and then if you have 2nd thoughts you typically have 90 days to return it for a full refund. But there are definitely deals out there on battery mowers if you know how, when and where to look for them. Good luck!
Yeah, I went 6 years ago for a new petrol mower, ended up with a siga 80v mower, its a German £680 machine. Its a beast, easily as powerful as the petrol but with no fuel or service to mess with. It is a 80v 5amp and I can cut my grass, 70 ft by 40 and the front at 30 x10, and use the battery in the strimmer, twice before it needs a change. I won't be going back to petrol.
Thank you for the excellent review. Only thing that I think was missing was using both mowers to cut slightly (for testing purposes) longer than normal grass to see how fine the mowers cut up the clippings. My present Ryobi (single blade) mower does a very mediocre job on mulching. Keep up the good work.
I'm drawn to the Milwaukee for the platform, its performance, and that they made clear design decisions, not a roomful of mower models. Not sure I could necessarily ever go back to a steel deck again, however. I've banged those up pretty easily.
I have always liked my Ryobi tools. I am leaning towards that mower heavily. I have looked at Ego mowers because people say they are very good but at $750 and the replacement battery costing $400 I am choking on that.
Ego are expensive, but for a good reason. They are basically the Tesla of electric yard tool brands; hands down among the most reliable which makes sense because Ego was strictly a battery company before they got into battery operated yard tools.
I’m deep into the Ryobi line. And I’m perfectly content with them. This is a huge reason for me to switch to M18 line if I want to upgrade my power tools, being that it is the same batteries as this mower. Btw, the older maybe four year old 20” Ryobi lawn mower is faster than the newer ones. I made the mistake of selling it, without testing the newer one first. The old one can push you to speed walking speed, whereas the newer ones are are just short of the speed I want them to go.
This is one of the main reasons I'm considering getting this Milwaukee mower. I have the Milwaukee electric chainsaw which uses the same batteries. Was looking into getting one or two extra batteries for it then also saw this mower. In some ways this is sort of a downside with electric, in that with any brand you're going to somewhat get locked into their system.
My coworkers clown on me for my ryobi tools, even though they’ve save our behinds quite a few times. But then I clown on them when their stuff gets stolen. I’m a Makita guy. But when it comes to American tools. At least ones advertised as American, I’m ryobi all the ways!! Nothing makes me prouder than when a Milwaukee coworker comes over asking to borrow one of my ryobi tools still talking smack! 😂 they brag about the heavy price of their tools, and I brag about the quality of my work.
I have thousands of dollars of Ryobi stuff. - I'm not sure I'll spend another dime with them. Recently I purchased a crosscut whipser mower. Loved every moment of it. Unfortunately, it broke within weeks of having it. some type of controller electrical issue (manufacturing defect.) Because it was outside of the Home Depot warranty period, I had to get Ryobi involved. This means that TTI is involved not so much Ryobi because Ryobi will say "sorry, once TTI the RLC has it, its up to them" ---- That is problem number one by the way. It spent one month at Home Depot and they figured they couldn't fix it. It then spent 6 days short of 90 days at the RCL with parts that were back ordered not to show up until March which would be 5 months after the RCL got the mower and 6 months since I sent it to Home Depot for repair. I spent days arguing with TTI. This was absolutely abhorrent. Ryobi was hands off, said they can't do anything about it. After battling for days, finally getting Home Depot to share some data, it forced TTI to recognize they will be outside their 90 day window. They are sending a new mower. Long and short: The brand new lawn mower failed. It took 3 months to get answers and if I didn't push would have been over 5 months. Ryobi themselves couldn't care less what their repair side was doing. Because of this, as my Ryobi eqt. fails, I will be switching to something else. I will never again spend a dime on Ryobi stuff. Cheap tools, breaking tools and customer service that couldnt care less, repair houes that couldnt care less.... this is a common "death rattle" of a company. If this place isn't turned around soon, Ryobi will be the new Harbor Freight of tools and they'll slowly be gone.
I just got the same mower. I've had issues with older RYOBI mowers too but already had a battery so three batteries keeps me going for several hours while one is always on charge. I'm giving them one more shot. If this thing acts up I'm going with Ego going forward. It's a solid mower so far but I cant stand the plastic push lever and it's driving me nuts for some reason. It feels flimsy...
Ryobi Mowers are built in Anderson, SC and their decks have a lifetime guarantee. I've had mine since the beginning of Spring last year and have had no issues.
Sadly lifetime guarantee means as little as the lawyers decide to let it mean. Maybe if you hit a rock, it was misuse. Maybe lifetime means as long as the life of the batteries that came with it. I don't know, just that a blanket guarantee means nothing.
Pleasantly surprised Ryobi is sending me a new mower 3 years into my warranty due to issues I'm having with mine. Although it does seem that the batteries are crapping out right at the warranty period.
Not necessarily. Both of these require using large Ah High Output batteries. Just because you have M18 5Ah batteries for your drill or impact wrench doesn’t mean they’re going to perform well in the mower. Same with the RYOBI
@@Shoptoolreviews Well, with the Ryobi as long as the battery will physically fit it will work because their 40v HP platform is yard tool specific, they don't share batteries with normal lower power power tools like drills or saws. You can technically use the 2ah battery in that mower, it won't last long at all, but it will work.
my problem is this, I don't need a self propelled mower. Other than that these units do the same job as my 14 yr old gas mower. What justifys spending 3 to 4 times more?
The non self propelled are way cheaper and a lot, lot lighter. Our ryobi was $140 on sale (we already have batteries as we have several of the 40v line like the power auger and weed whacker). No fiddling with repairs or maintenance whatsoever. But if you’ve still got a working one no reason to replace it.
I used to work at TTI (the owners of Milwaukee and Ryobi brands). The amount of 'cross-pollination' between the engineering teams was HUGE. Both brands benefit from each other, and I'm sure you'll be happy with either. Different target audiences, but both mowers share a lot of, not just components, but design language.

Excellent review. Since the RY401021 is now $899, the 2823-20 is "only' $200 (22.25%) more. For that increase in cost, I'd expect the Milwaukee mower to be a whole lot better than just a few seconds quicker start, clutched FWD motor (but no AWD), a light switch and a metal (heavier, but not necessarily rust proof) deck, and a probably unnecessary front handle. And it doesn't have the cross-cut blade. BTW-the Ryobi warranty on the mower is 5 years. Since I was already VERY invested in the Ryobi ecosystem (including about 9 batteries, and multiple chargers, before getting the mower-including 2 6AH batteries), it was a very easy decision for me (as I just ordered the RY401021). And for power tools I went with Ridgid a long time ago, which might not always be as good as Milwaukee, but it has a lifetime warranty on everything including batteries (assuming you register them timely)--because my predecessor cordless tools had been Milwaukee, but after the 3rd set of replacement batteries at my expense, I saw the light. BTW--I'm curious about the Ryobi 8AH and 12AH batteries: how long does it take for them to cool down after a complete rundown before you can start recharging them? Plus if it takes 50% or 100% longer to recharge, the use one/charge one option might not work if there's a significant cool down time. BTW-you said that the Milwaukee did .5 acres of mowing vs. the Ryobi's "almost the same" 5/8th of an acre, but in fact 5/8ths of an acre is a whopping 25% increase over .5 acres.
Been running an old 3.5HP briggs lawn mower from 1990's for years now, paid 60$. Didnt even change the oil for 3 years lol. This year i added some used engine oil from my car. No way ill pay 500 for a mower that wont last 5 years

These brands are owned by the same company. Ryobi is braded towards the home diyer, Milwaukee for the pro who will be using it for heavy duty applications. Milwaukee will come out with more mowers next year with more options and have more powerful machines

I"m slowly replacing my many gas powered yard tools with battery powered machines, and would like to eventually also replace my Honda gas powered lawn mower, but even though it's 12 years old it refused to die. I wonder if these two electric mowers will still be going strong in 12 years.
brushless electric motors can run that long if they're not abused, but these motors start getting clogged up with dirt, dust, grass particulate etc very quickly. they aren't well shielded enough. same goes for the ESC you want to keep it in mint condition. I've taken apart lots of electric mowers, that seems like it will be a failure point if you want your mower to last a decade+. Other issues are switches, and funny enough when lead acid batteries fail in other electric mowers most people just trash them - so much for being green lmao.
I liked this comparison review. A bit longer than I'd personally like, but this was good. I got the Ryobi HP 21" Self-propelled non-cross-cut non-AWD about a year ago or so and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't use it much because I have a lawn service, but when I do need to touch up, like when expecting guests or something, it is great. I looked at Ryobi mower specifically because I heard fair things about them, and I am already invested in the Ryobi ecosystem. This was honestly the biggest thing for me. Works well, but also works with my existing pile of batteries. If I had Milwaukee tools already, I'd probably have gone for the Milwaukee mower.
The nice thing about the 40V batteries is that you can use them in the power station as emergency power in their 3000w/1600w system. retails for $850+ depending on if you want two batteries to start with or not. I'm currently using the ONE+ inverter for my sump pump(s).
Why does the Ryobi 40 volt battery lower to 36 at nominal voltage but the Milwaukee voltage stays the same at 36? Does the Milwaukee batteries not lower from 18 to a slightly lower nominal voltage as well ?
I can not see a pro using these yet. The problems with charging on the road and the number of batteies needed would be issues. I have my doubts about durability in a commercial setting. I suspect that at some point they will be mandated by some state governments and we will find out.
Maybe not for commercial settings but for residential settings these electric mowers could work. Give them a little more time for the technology to mature and I bet you'll be seeing a lot more electric mowers in residential areas.
Blades of Grass is using a milwaukee commercially and Dependable Lawn and Garden as well. Lawn care business success uses the Milwaukee hedge trimmer and quik lok commercially too.
@@mefferso04 Cool! I have neither since I live on 10 acres and cut about 4 of them. I have a 60” zero turn and 50” riding mower. But I was curious what you bought. If I was to purchase either of these I’d DEFINITELY go Milwaukee. First reason is because I’m a Milwaukee fanboy with probably 25 batteries, and second is because it’s obviously built much better. Plastic deck on Ryobi? Ridiculous. Rocks or a piece of the blade would destroy that junk. Good choice bro.
I saw another Ryobi video on UA-cam that demonstrated that pressing the blade start button after the blade is already spinning causes the the blade to speed up to max. Can you confirm that it works this way?
Electric's, the one thing no one wants to discus, RPM / proper Blade design for max blade lift on your lawn, The cheapest mower made, will can perform 98 % of the so called best of mowers, if it has the power / RPM / properly designed blade for grass lift, it will out cut & manicure just as good or better as the commercial mowers for golf courses Don't get rid of your gas mower
I have a number of M18 tools, if I was in the market for a new mower I would go with the Milwaukee. But for now my 15 year old Toro personal pace will just have to stick around a little longer. Would one of these electric mowers even last that long?
I've got the milwaukee and it seems really solid, some plastic, but its metal where it counts(high quality thick metal with excellent powder coating) I would be shocked if it didn't last 10-15 years.
I prefer plastic/composite decks, lighter and grass sticks less. Both are nice, but I'm very disappointed with Milwaukee's latch system for the handles and that's why I got the Ego select cut XP
Difference between a homeowner designed tool and landscaper designed tool. I will never fold the middle half of the handle down on mine, both my Honda hrx217 and Milwaukee fold the same way
I have been using Ryobi for a couple years now after being sick of gas powered mowers for many years. I have since been thru I think three Ryobi mowers by now because either the batteries stopped working or the self prepared function slowly gave out over time. Also the blade hit and damaged the deck pretty bad on a older metal deck model I had years before. I wasn't even aware of Ego or Milwaukee mowers before until recently doing some research compassions. I live in Hawaii and Home Depot really try to sell Ryobi mowers primarily. I only recently found out Ace carries Ego mowers now and another local hardware store carries Milwaukee mowers now as well. I had a spare battery from my old Ryobi so I went for the new Ryobi Whisper recently with two batteries included with it. I have three batteries now total so that kept me to stick with Ryobi. I'm gonna run this new one and hope for the best and then switch to Ego or Milwaukee someday. I wanted to have faith and stay loyal to Ryobi but I just dont like how slow it is and plastic push lever annoys the hell out of me. It feels flimsy like you said and I just can't stand the feel. Otherwise, it works like a beast and I can live with it but this is the last Ryobi mower I will buy. It really came down to the perk of having extra battery and always having one on charge as it's annoying to have to stop mowing for an hour or two while your in the flow and have a lot of grass to cut like I do on our six acres. My Dad has an expensive John Deere Mower he uses but I like to use the push mowers because it gives me a reason to get a little workout while also cutting the grass. I almost wanted to return this Ryobi mower but I think I'm gonna stick with it as the Ryobi rep in the store gave us a free hat and gave my Dad a free set of drill bits for his Ryobi Drill he owns. I mean how I can go back and return it after they gave us that and not feel bad lol. I can live with it... I will say I know Ryobi is trying to evolve and listen to it's customers because I like not having a mulch plug anymore and the battery light indicator on the back now is a very nice new addition. They just need to get them running a little faster and ditch the plastic push lever and it would be really tough to beat in comparison to any other electric mower. Great comparison video btw!
Just be warned Ego is basically the top of the line in terms of battery operated yard tools and as such you're going to be paying top of the line prices for anything Ego. For example an Ego 12AH battery is going to run you $550-$600 whereas a 12AH Ryobi battery can be had from DTO for $360, oftentimes much less on sale. Ego doesn't seem to have an equivalent factory outlet either so outside of Ego putting things on sale themselves you're paying MSRP 100% of the time.
good review except preformance as you said they are not brush cutters so why not do the prefromance on a normal lawn and show how they cut. what keeps me from giving up gas is mulching almost every review I've watched on battery mowers no one shows mulching. they use bag and side discharge and mention they also mulch that sayys a great deal to me on how they do mulching. side note during the preformance you let the Ryobi do the work on the Milwaukee you were working the mower through those weeds so I give Ryobi the nod on preformance..
I sold lawn equipment for over 15 years, during that time we sold walk behind mowers with cast Aluminum decks, Plastic decks and of course steel decks. Of those steel was the only one without any failures that compromised safety related to the deck. People were always concerned about the weight of the steel and whether it would rust out. It was lighter than the cast Aluminum. It lasted much longer than the Plastic and was safer. The training literature and the owners manual stated to ensure not to hit items hidden in the grass because it may result in damage or injury. Good luck with that idea
This is what I needed to know, was curious how the bigger 36v (we dont have the 40v in Australia it seems) would do with longer tougher grass. And it seems quite well. Also I already have a ton of ryobi stuff and here its a replacement warranty if it breaks lol. I should add, that your start up test actually favours ryobi. The Milwaukee, is surging its motor and batteries to get the quick start. Which is great from a user point of view, bad for the equipment. The slower start on the ryobi is better for the batteries and motor. Although they should both last a while.
The Ryobi battery is 40V not 36 volt and only takes one battery to use not 2 like the Milwaukee , get your facts together, I have had a Ryobi for 5 years and still going strong
I would never purchase either of these mowers, due to the poor quality chines made rubbish, not built to last, only to look ok at point of sale. Pay a little more, get a quality mower to start with. A lot less stress.
That does happen from time to time. It seems to do that when it's really hot outside and the plastic deck gets a little flimsy. We couldn't get it to do that the first several times using it, but then we finally noticed it after a long use during the summer sun. Thanks for watching.
We've got lots of vehicles, trailers, tractors etc on our three acres. The Millwaukee wins because it has the low snout. You can mow underneath these obstacles. The other mowers are too short and tall in the front.
A big reason for the M18 Mower is. Each 12amp battery cost $240-$250 each. That right there is almost $500 in battery you get. So if you have tools like I do M18 Chainsaw, Table saw, etc. Having two more 12amp batteries is a must. It’s no brainer to get the M18 mower. Yes $1000 bucks, but if need some extra 12 amp batteries and going buy some anyways your paying $500 for the mower now.
I love the lights on the Milwaukee. It’s about time a mower comes with decent lights from the factory. Although my yard is way out of the realm of these battery mowers at 3 1/2 acres, I’m glad companies are listening to customer needs. I’m like you in the heat of summer I mow at night, much cooler and I love mowing under the stars. Excellent and through review good job.
I e got the Ryobi and have been wanting to grab the Milwaukee but the wife would kill me. Lol I should of waited for the Milwaukee. I e joy the Ryobi don't get me wrong it does a great job but the Milwaukee is just better quality
I personally would have just gone with a 10amp EGO (no frills) mower and called it even....it will have a 5 yr battery and has been around many years longer than either of the above electric mowers. It's the top selling electric mower in the US. That said Ryobi is now giving Ego a pretty good run for its money in 2024.
My 10yr old Troy-Bilt just stopped, will try to get it repaired and will sell it. Time for a replacement, I ordered the RYOBI RY410210, there is a promo for a free tool, I picked the 17in carbon fiber shaft string timmer, both for $799. If I return the string trimmer, the mower will be $597. But I think I will keep both. Good video, I'm already invested in RYOBI, just a couple 40v batteries but several (15) 18v batteries.

Huge selling point for someone like me is I can use those Milwaukee batteries on my power tools. And those batteries are great for table saws miter saws rear handle 7 1/4 etc. plus I have loads of Milwaukee batteries and in a pinch I could throw a couple 8.0Ho right?
Easily. The 8.0’s are great and can handle a yard on their own. With my 12’s I can cut my yard twice depending how much high lift I run. With the 8’s I doubt you could cut twice.
Absolutely. I use 6's and 8's on mine. However, they do not perform as well as 12's. I get less than half performance with 6's. But I have about 0.3 acres of actual grass, so the 12's can generally finish the job. If I mow every week, no problems. My daughter will actually jog behind the mower and it keeps up with her.

That makes a huge difference especially if you’re already on the platform which I assume a majority of people that buy a Milwaukee mower would already be on that platform. You can’t use your Ryobi 18 V batteries on that mower or vice versa mower battery on your tools. With the door rapid charger and two batteries that makes that more five $600
I bought my Milwaukee mower this Spring and I really like it, but I'm disappointed in the battery life. I live in Indiana and have found that one charge can get me through about 1/3 acre before requiring recharge. Then it's a 2 hour charge time (the review is incorrect in saying they recharge in the double charge in 1 hour) before I can finish. If we have a week of rain and I haven't been able to mow in that time, then the situation is even worse. i've just resigned myself to purchasing an additional set of batteries for next year. Great mower overall - fantastic power, the non-powered rolling resistance is truly a benefit, and a very good ergonomics. And, as you say, the batteries are part of the system and were the reason I replaced my other gas-powered lawn tools (trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, ...).
Yeah, I have a craftsman cordless mower and use their tools so I have quite a few batteries. Not saying Craftsman is amazing but for the price it does great.
Not a fan of the discharge on the Milwaukee being on the back. There are times with my Toro personal pays, where I push with my right hand and stand on the left side as I walk it due to some obstructions. That wouldn't work out well with the Milwaukee. That being said, my Toro personal pace is over 20 years old and still working fine, so I don't see an electric one in my future. Not to mention, my father gave me a brand new Toro personal pace a few years ago that still goes unused. LoL
2 months ago , I was in a really bad car accident. The surgeon said I was dead for 42 minutes. When I saw Heaven there were Milwaukee Tools there, and ONLY Milwaukee Tools. But there was a KFC there. 😀

I just bought the Ryobi cross cut, but it is not the whisper one. It will be delivered tomorrow. It has 5 years on the mower and I think 3 years on the battery.
The ugly Ryobi seemed over engineered to me so I went with the Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is a simple reinterpretation of a classic mower. Its a beast that eats with all the power you'll need!

I am a big Milwaukee guy but I just can’t see spending that cash, it is priced correctly I feel but there next gen will have to be cheaper, maybe have a plastic deck like the Egos. I thank you though, that Ryobi is a nice unit and might change me from a Ego.
I used to hate the idea of a plastic deck on electric mowers. But it's not the crap plastic that's brittle and weak that you typically think of. The weight savings you get makes the mowers a lot easier to maneuver. It also will never rust. I have an older Ryobi 40v mower for about 5 years now and the thing still looks brand new. I don't baby it either, and I like that I can throw it around because it's so light.

Besides no rust, the plastic is much easier to clean the grass residue off.

I would not want the discharge configuration on the Milwaukee, there are times when you make a turn that that type of discharge would be pointing directly at you.

neither. i have a Toro 21386 and i can cut 3 average yards on 1 tank of gas. its gonna be a loooong time before electric can match gas in terms of stored energy. stop pushing this electric garbage. its currently only a drain on our poorly designed electrical infrastructure.
Good luck “putting your hands on both mowers” at the stores. They are typically bolted at chest height and no floor models to actually feel the ergonomics or test the features.
I guess the theory is you have to buy it to test it…which means many returns in all likelihood.
I love the ryobi as I bought self propelled and love the speed switch . I’m a Milwaukee guy 100 percent and have lots of tools but two batteries at once ? In the future I don’t think 18 volts are going to cut it ?
We have the Ryobi Whisper 21" and are mowing a pretty standard New England lawn... The thing is an absolute champ.

One thing I don't like is the weight but stuff like how fast or slow it takes for the blade to get to full speed doesn't matter. I'm already in the platform and I love it. Also I can switch one battery to the next I love that

I'm a milwaukee fan and have plenty of their tools but not sure it's worth double the Ryobi in price. The Ryobi for $500 on sale is the way to go.
I have a different ryobi model but still a 21" self propelled 40v. I also have the multi trimmer tool and the whisper leaf blower. I already invested in Milwaukee m12 tool line. If the m18 had come out earlier I would have gone the m18 route.
My ryobi has been pretty good. It's not as powerful as my old mower so I have to mow once a week instead of every 2 weeks. I can get 2 uses each charge on the 6mah battery.
It's been a great system this season and I highly recommend it. Every tool is lightweight and super easy just to grab and use. No maintenance and no cranking required. I just use the blower to clean the mower after each use.
The "best" mower depends on the purchaser's specific situation. If you live in an upper upper class neighborhood and still wish to do your own lawn care, you'll be fine with the Milwaukee. Your neighbors won't be jealous and some might even feel sorry for you that you're still cutting your own grass. However, if you live in an average neighborhood in the United States, your super expensive mower marks your home as one with expensive belongings. Proceed with caution. Solution: Replace the Milwaukee logos with black and red paint and install Black and Decker or Worx logos! Remember: You purchased your mower to cut grass--Not to be a tool snob. Pride go-ith before a fall.
If you're using the Milwaukee mower professionally, this mower could serve you well. Painting the mower yellow may discourage potential thieves. A red and black mower is easier to steal! Rebrand the Milwaukee with green-yellow paint and Ryobi badges! Now we're talking!

I always spray paint my lawn equipment with pink and orange paint to make them look like junk. My EGO mower has 3 pink painted wheels, 1 painted black. hahahaha But I like the idea of different stickers. Will have to fire up the Cricut and make some new logos.
Saw the Milwaukee at 990 in home Depot, it comes with 2×12amp batteries that are 250US each if bought separately.
Those batteries will also be handy for my M18 chain saw, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, battery inverter, trimmer, etc, etc.
That's a great price for the mower kit. You're exactly right, those are great batteries for all those tools.
@Shop Tool Reviews that's the one major point you didn't touch on. The batteries for the Milwaukee can be used in your other Milwaukee tools of you're in that line. And many of us do own other Milwaukee tools that can use either the 12ah batteries or the 8ah batteries. So that is one major plus to the Milwaukee mower.
The Ryobi 40 volt system batteries are really only good for other Ryobi 40 volt OPE. Which really limits what else you can use them for.
That one factor alone might be worth the extra price of the Milwaukee.

@@BrettBreeden Not the same, the Milwaukee M18 line is crazy, Shop vacs, chain saw, pole saw, hammer drill, impact, flood lamps, everything works with M18. The M18 batteries are really 20 volt batteries when you get XC and HD versions, but work on all 18 volt equipment.

Both tools appear to be quite impressive. In my opinion, it may be more practical to opt for the Ryobi tool, considering the significant price difference of approximately $400 to $500 compared to the Milwaukee tool, which is priced at around $1100. Nevertheless, both tools seem capable of fulfilling their intended purposes effectively.
I'm really amazed at these battery operated mowers by top brands. I remember vividly mowing my yard 20 years ago with a small gas operated noise maker. I hope battery operated mowers are the future but prices need to come down A LOT before mass adaptation. Thanks for another phenomenal review! Cheers!

Look at the price of a high end gas mower of similar type to these. You might be surprised at the 800 USD mowers in the gas realm.
I had the same opinion before I got into the electric mowers, but about 1.5 years ago a week before Christmas, we were gearing up for the first big snow in NY. I walked into a Lowe's for some snow removal items, and sure enough, their 80 volt Kobalt self propelled mower was on sale for $169 with a 6ah battery and charger. They had 2 left. I purchase one of them. I also was able to get their 80 volt string trimmer as a kit with a battery and charger for about $100 a week later. The batteries are interchangeable. I was so tempted to go back and get the 2nd mower for that price because the battery alone would normally cost around $225.
3 months later, when EGO switched from Home Depot to Lowe's, Home Depot was blowing out those mowers. This was in February of that year.
I was able to get the EGO Select Cut Self Propelled mower with the 7.5ah battery for $350. They had the non self propelled for only $300.
My point is, you can find some fantastic deals on battery operated mowers if you look for them at the right time. Obviously YMMV but if you are in the north east or north Midwest and look around for them in December, January or February, there's a good chance you'll find a great deal on one as long as you do your homework and jump on one when you see a great deal. You can always return it in a week or two if you have buyer's remorse, but great deals typically don't last and supplies will be limited. So if you think you've found a great deal, grab it, take it home, do your research, and then if you have 2nd thoughts you typically have 90 days to return it for a full refund.
But there are definitely deals out there on battery mowers if you know how, when and where to look for them.

Yeah, I went 6 years ago for a new petrol mower, ended up with a siga 80v mower, its a German £680 machine. Its a beast, easily as powerful as the petrol but with no fuel or service to mess with. It is a 80v 5amp and I can cut my grass, 70 ft by 40 and the front at 30 x10, and use the battery in the strimmer, twice before it needs a change. I won't be going back to petrol.

Only thing that I think was missing was using both mowers to cut slightly (for testing purposes) longer than normal grass to see how fine the mowers cut up the clippings. My present Ryobi (single blade) mower does a very mediocre job on mulching. Keep up the good work.
I'm drawn to the Milwaukee for the platform, its performance, and that they made clear design decisions, not a roomful of mower models. Not sure I could necessarily ever go back to a steel deck again, however. I've banged those up pretty easily.
I have always liked my Ryobi tools. I am leaning towards that mower heavily. I have looked at Ego mowers because people say they are very good but at $750 and the replacement battery costing $400 I am choking on that.
Ego are expensive, but for a good reason. They are basically the Tesla of electric yard tool brands; hands down among the most reliable which makes sense because Ego was strictly a battery company before they got into battery operated yard tools.

I’m deep into the Ryobi line. And I’m perfectly content with them. This is a huge reason for me to switch to M18 line if I want to upgrade my power tools, being that it is the same batteries as this mower. Btw, the older maybe four year old 20” Ryobi lawn mower is faster than the newer ones. I made the mistake of selling it, without testing the newer one first. The old one can push you to speed walking speed, whereas the newer ones are are just short of the speed I want them to go.
This is one of the main reasons I'm considering getting this Milwaukee mower. I have the Milwaukee electric chainsaw which uses the same batteries. Was looking into getting one or two extra batteries for it then also saw this mower. In some ways this is sort of a downside with electric, in that with any brand you're going to somewhat get locked into their system.

My coworkers clown on me for my ryobi tools, even though they’ve save our behinds quite a few times. But then I clown on them when their stuff gets stolen. I’m a Makita guy. But when it comes to American tools. At least ones advertised as American, I’m ryobi all the ways!! Nothing makes me prouder than when a Milwaukee coworker comes over asking to borrow one of my ryobi tools still talking smack! 😂 they brag about the heavy price of their tools, and I brag about the quality of my work.

I have thousands of dollars of Ryobi stuff. - I'm not sure I'll spend another dime with them.
Recently I purchased a crosscut whipser mower. Loved every moment of it. Unfortunately, it broke within weeks of having it. some type of controller electrical issue (manufacturing defect.)
Because it was outside of the Home Depot warranty period, I had to get Ryobi involved. This means that TTI is involved not so much Ryobi because Ryobi will say "sorry, once TTI the RLC has it, its up to them" ---- That is problem number one by the way.
It spent one month at Home Depot and they figured they couldn't fix it. It then spent 6 days short of 90 days at the RCL with parts that were back ordered not to show up until March which would be 5 months after the RCL got the mower and 6 months since I sent it to Home Depot for repair.
I spent days arguing with TTI. This was absolutely abhorrent. Ryobi was hands off, said they can't do anything about it. After battling for days, finally getting Home Depot to share some data, it forced TTI to recognize they will be outside their 90 day window. They are sending a new mower.
Long and short: The brand new lawn mower failed. It took 3 months to get answers and if I didn't push would have been over 5 months. Ryobi themselves couldn't care less what their repair side was doing.
Because of this, as my Ryobi eqt. fails, I will be switching to something else. I will never again spend a dime on Ryobi stuff.
Cheap tools, breaking tools and customer service that couldnt care less, repair houes that couldnt care less.... this is a common "death rattle" of a company. If this place isn't turned around soon, Ryobi will be the new Harbor Freight of tools and they'll slowly be gone.
I wouldn't get Milwaukee either then if you don't want to deal with TTI anymore. They're both owned by them.
I just got the same mower. I've had issues with older RYOBI mowers too but already had a battery so three batteries keeps me going for several hours while one is always on charge. I'm giving them one more shot. If this thing acts up I'm going with Ego going forward. It's a solid mower so far but I cant stand the plastic push lever and it's driving me nuts for some reason. It feels flimsy...

Ryobi Mowers are built in Anderson, SC and their decks have a lifetime guarantee. I've had mine since the beginning of Spring last year and have had no issues.
Sadly lifetime guarantee means as little as the lawyers decide to let it mean.
Maybe if you hit a rock, it was misuse. Maybe lifetime means as long as the life of the batteries that came with it. I don't know, just that a blanket guarantee means nothing.
Pleasantly surprised Ryobi is sending me a new mower 3 years into my warranty due to issues I'm having with mine. Although it does seem that the batteries are crapping out right at the warranty period.
Basically if you own Ryobi stuff already get the Ryobi. If Milwaukee get Milwaukee.
Not necessarily. Both of these require using large Ah High Output batteries. Just because you have M18 5Ah batteries for your drill or impact wrench doesn’t mean they’re going to perform well in the mower. Same with the RYOBI
@@Shoptoolreviews Well, with the Ryobi as long as the battery will physically fit it will work because their 40v HP platform is yard tool specific, they don't share batteries with normal lower power power tools like drills or saws. You can technically use the 2ah battery in that mower, it won't last long at all, but it will work.
my problem is this, I don't need a self propelled mower. Other than that these units do the same job as my 14 yr old gas mower. What justifys spending 3 to 4 times more?
The non self propelled are way cheaper and a lot, lot lighter. Our ryobi was $140 on sale (we already have batteries as we have several of the 40v line like the power auger and weed whacker).
No fiddling with repairs or maintenance whatsoever. But if you’ve still got a working one no reason to replace it.
I used to work at TTI (the owners of Milwaukee and Ryobi brands). The amount of 'cross-pollination' between the engineering teams was HUGE.
Both brands benefit from each other, and I'm sure you'll be happy with either.
Different target audiences, but both mowers share a lot of, not just components, but design language.

Do not bother with Milwaukee. The mower is garbage. If you are going to pay that much then just go with Ego. You will get a much better mower.

Excellent review. Since the RY401021 is now $899, the 2823-20 is "only' $200 (22.25%) more. For that increase in cost, I'd expect the Milwaukee mower to be a whole lot better than just a few seconds quicker start, clutched FWD motor (but no AWD), a light switch and a metal (heavier, but not necessarily rust proof) deck, and a probably unnecessary front handle. And it doesn't have the cross-cut blade. BTW-the Ryobi warranty on the mower is 5 years. Since I was already VERY invested in the Ryobi ecosystem (including about 9 batteries, and multiple chargers, before getting the mower-including 2 6AH batteries), it was a very easy decision for me (as I just ordered the RY401021). And for power tools I went with Ridgid a long time ago, which might not always be as good as Milwaukee, but it has a lifetime warranty on everything including batteries (assuming you register them timely)--because my predecessor cordless tools had been Milwaukee, but after the 3rd set of replacement batteries at my expense, I saw the light. BTW--I'm curious about the Ryobi 8AH and 12AH batteries: how long does it take for them to cool down after a complete rundown before you can start recharging them? Plus if it takes 50% or 100% longer to recharge, the use one/charge one option might not work if there's a significant cool down time. BTW-you said that the Milwaukee did .5 acres of mowing vs. the Ryobi's "almost the same" 5/8th of an acre, but in fact 5/8ths of an acre is a whopping 25% increase over .5 acres.

These brands are owned by the same company. Ryobi is braded towards the home diyer, Milwaukee for the pro who will be using it for heavy duty applications. Milwaukee will come out with more mowers next year with more options and have more powerful machines

I wired an old Yardworks mower using two Black N Decker 20 volt batteries the same way as the Milwaukee.
I"m slowly replacing my many gas powered yard tools with battery powered machines, and would like to eventually also replace my Honda gas powered lawn mower, but even though it's 12 years old it refused to die. I wonder if these two electric mowers will still be going strong in 12 years.
brushless electric motors can run that long if they're not abused, but these motors start getting clogged up with dirt, dust, grass particulate etc very quickly. they aren't well shielded enough. same goes for the ESC you want to keep it in mint condition. I've taken apart lots of electric mowers, that seems like it will be a failure point if you want your mower to last a decade+. Other issues are switches, and funny enough when lead acid batteries fail in other electric mowers most people just trash them - so much for being green lmao.

I liked this comparison review. A bit longer than I'd personally like, but this was good.
I got the Ryobi HP 21" Self-propelled non-cross-cut non-AWD about a year ago or so and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't use it much because I have a lawn service, but when I do need to touch up, like when expecting guests or something, it is great. I looked at Ryobi mower specifically because I heard fair things about them, and I am already invested in the Ryobi ecosystem. This was honestly the biggest thing for me. Works well, but also works with my existing pile of batteries. If I had Milwaukee tools already, I'd probably have gone for the Milwaukee mower.
The nice thing about the 40V batteries is that you can use them in the power station as emergency power in their 3000w/1600w system. retails for $850+ depending on if you want two batteries to start with or not. I'm currently using the ONE+ inverter for my sump pump(s).
Why does the Ryobi 40 volt battery lower to 36 at nominal voltage but the Milwaukee voltage stays the same at 36? Does the Milwaukee batteries not lower from 18 to a slightly lower nominal voltage as well ?
Because most 18v batteries are 20v max Milwaukee just doesn't make it part of the branding like the bullshit from dewalt
I can not see a pro using these yet. The problems with charging on the road and the number of batteies needed would be issues. I have my doubts about durability in a commercial setting. I suspect that at some point they will be mandated by some state governments and we will find out.
Maybe not for commercial settings but for residential settings these electric mowers could work. Give them a little more time for the technology to mature and I bet you'll be seeing a lot more electric mowers in residential areas.
Blades of Grass is using a milwaukee commercially and Dependable Lawn and Garden as well. Lawn care business success uses the Milwaukee hedge trimmer and quik lok commercially too.

@@mefferso04 Cool! I have neither since I live on 10 acres and cut about 4 of them. I have a 60” zero turn and 50” riding mower. But I was curious what you bought. If I was to purchase either of these I’d DEFINITELY go Milwaukee. First reason is because I’m a Milwaukee fanboy with probably 25 batteries, and second is because it’s obviously built much better. Plastic deck on Ryobi? Ridiculous. Rocks or a piece of the blade would destroy that junk. Good choice bro.

I saw another Ryobi video on UA-cam that demonstrated that pressing the blade start button after the blade is already spinning causes the the blade to speed up to max. Can you confirm that it works this way?
Electric's, the one thing no one wants to discus, RPM / proper Blade design for max blade lift on your lawn, The cheapest mower made, will can perform 98 % of the so called best of mowers, if it has the power / RPM / properly designed blade for grass lift, it will out cut &
manicure just as good or better as the commercial mowers for golf courses

I have a number of M18 tools, if I was in the market for a new mower I would go with the Milwaukee. But for now my 15 year old Toro personal pace will just have to stick around a little longer. Would one of these electric mowers even last that long?
I've got the milwaukee and it seems really solid, some plastic, but its metal where it counts(high quality thick metal with excellent powder coating) I would be shocked if it didn't last 10-15 years.
I prefer plastic/composite decks, lighter and grass sticks less.
Both are nice, but I'm very disappointed with Milwaukee's latch system for the handles and that's why I got the Ego select cut XP

Difference between a homeowner designed tool and landscaper designed tool. I will never fold the middle half of the handle down on mine, both my Honda hrx217 and Milwaukee fold the same way
I have been using Ryobi for a couple years now after being sick of gas powered mowers for many years. I have since been thru I think three Ryobi mowers by now because either the batteries stopped working or the self prepared function slowly gave out over time. Also the blade hit and damaged the deck pretty bad on a older metal deck model I had years before. I wasn't even aware of Ego or Milwaukee mowers before until recently doing some research compassions. I live in Hawaii and Home Depot really try to sell Ryobi mowers primarily. I only recently found out Ace carries Ego mowers now and another local hardware store carries Milwaukee mowers now as well. I had a spare battery from my old Ryobi so I went for the new Ryobi Whisper recently with two batteries included with it. I have three batteries now total so that kept me to stick with Ryobi. I'm gonna run this new one and hope for the best and then switch to Ego or Milwaukee someday. I wanted to have faith and stay loyal to Ryobi but I just dont like how slow it is and plastic push lever annoys the hell out of me. It feels flimsy like you said and I just can't stand the feel. Otherwise, it works like a beast and I can live with it but this is the last Ryobi mower I will buy. It really came down to the perk of having extra battery and always having one on charge as it's annoying to have to stop mowing for an hour or two while your in the flow and have a lot of grass to cut like I do on our six acres. My Dad has an expensive John Deere Mower he uses but I like to use the push mowers because it gives me a reason to get a little workout while also cutting the grass. I almost wanted to return this Ryobi mower but I think I'm gonna stick with it as the Ryobi rep in the store gave us a free hat and gave my Dad a free set of drill bits for his Ryobi Drill he owns. I mean how I can go back and return it after they gave us that and not feel bad lol. I can live with it... I will say I know Ryobi is trying to evolve and listen to it's customers because I like not having a mulch plug anymore and the battery light indicator on the back now is a very nice new addition. They just need to get them running a little faster and ditch the plastic push lever and it would be really tough to beat in comparison to any other electric mower. Great comparison video btw!
Just be warned Ego is basically the top of the line in terms of battery operated yard tools and as such you're going to be paying top of the line prices for anything Ego. For example an Ego 12AH battery is going to run you $550-$600 whereas a 12AH Ryobi battery can be had from DTO for $360, oftentimes much less on sale. Ego doesn't seem to have an equivalent factory outlet either so outside of Ego putting things on sale themselves you're paying MSRP 100% of the time.

good review except preformance as you said they are not brush cutters so why not do the prefromance on a normal lawn and show how they cut. what keeps me from giving up gas is mulching almost every review I've watched on battery mowers no one shows mulching. they use bag and side discharge and mention they also mulch that sayys a great deal to me on how they do mulching. side note during the preformance you let the Ryobi do the work on the Milwaukee you were working the mower through those weeds so I give Ryobi the nod on preformance..

Why is everything Ryobi so hideous? I know looks aren’t important but damn. They take my breath away and not in a good way.
I sold lawn equipment for over 15 years, during that time we sold walk behind mowers with cast Aluminum decks, Plastic decks and of course steel decks. Of those steel was the only one without any failures that compromised safety related to the deck. People were always concerned about the weight of the steel and whether it would rust out. It was lighter than the cast Aluminum. It lasted much longer than the Plastic and was safer. The training literature and the owners manual stated to ensure not to hit items hidden in the grass because it may result in damage or injury. Good luck with that idea
I wonder if you can you the aftermarket x blade adapter kits on the Milwaukee to get even better mulching and bagging. Please let me know !!!!
The Milwaukee was obviously designed with the professional in mind. Pushing a mower against the wheel drive motor for 10 hours a day is a 100% no go.
Don't understand. You can use self propelled without the blades turning.

This is what I needed to know, was curious how the bigger 36v (we dont have the 40v in Australia it seems) would do with longer tougher grass. And it seems quite well. Also I already have a ton of ryobi stuff and here its a replacement warranty if it breaks lol.
I should add, that your start up test actually favours ryobi. The Milwaukee, is surging its motor and batteries to get the quick start. Which is great from a user point of view, bad for the equipment. The slower start on the ryobi is better for the batteries and motor. Although they should both last a while.

The Ryobi battery is 40V not 36 volt and only takes one battery to use not 2 like the Milwaukee , get your facts together, I have had a Ryobi for 5 years and still going strong

I would never purchase either of these mowers, due to the poor quality chines made rubbish, not built to last, only to look ok at point of sale. Pay a little more, get a quality mower to start with. A lot less stress.
really upset that Ryobi has a plastic deck. I already have damage on it because of it with a gash after just 1 month in.
That does happen from time to time. It seems to do that when it's really hot outside and the plastic deck gets a little flimsy. We couldn't get it to do that the first several times using it, but then we finally noticed it after a long use during the summer sun. Thanks for watching.
Better than a metal deck and it rusting... I've had Honda and Toro decks get hit by blade and cut the metal. I'll take plastic.
That price difference shrinks quick when the Ryobi 40v batteries takes a dump on you.
We've got lots of vehicles, trailers, tractors etc on our three acres. The Millwaukee wins because it has the low snout. You can mow underneath these obstacles. The other mowers are too short and tall in the front.
A big reason for the M18 Mower is. Each 12amp battery cost $240-$250 each. That right there is almost $500 in battery you get. So if you have tools like I do M18 Chainsaw, Table saw, etc. Having two more 12amp batteries is a must. It’s no brainer to get the M18 mower. Yes $1000 bucks, but if need some extra 12 amp batteries and going buy some anyways your paying $500 for the mower now.

I love the lights on the Milwaukee. It’s about time a mower comes with decent lights from the factory. Although my yard is way out of the realm of these battery mowers at 3 1/2 acres, I’m glad companies are listening to customer needs. I’m like you in the heat of summer I mow at night, much cooler and I love mowing under the stars. Excellent and through review good job.
Do you mow all 3½ acres or do omyou just let it grow and only mow part of it? Curious as I'm planning to buy property too

I e got the Ryobi and have been wanting to grab the Milwaukee but the wife would kill me. Lol I should of waited for the Milwaukee. I e joy the Ryobi don't get me wrong it does a great job but the Milwaukee is just better quality
Milwaukee is TTI's higher tier brand. Ryobi is sort of middle tier to budget tier.
I wonder if the Milwaukee would mulch better with a gator blade.
I personally would have just gone with a 10amp EGO (no frills) mower and called it even....it will have a 5 yr battery and has been around many years longer than either of the above electric mowers. It's the top selling electric mower in the US. That said Ryobi is now giving Ego a pretty good run for its money in 2024.
My 10yr old Troy-Bilt just stopped, will try to get it repaired and will sell it. Time for a replacement, I ordered the RYOBI RY410210, there is a promo for a free tool, I picked the 17in carbon fiber shaft string timmer, both for $799. If I return the string trimmer, the mower will be $597. But I think I will keep both. Good video, I'm already invested in RYOBI, just a couple 40v batteries but several (15) 18v batteries.
