A game that kinda gets lost in the shuffle -- doesn't get nearly enough credit for being the first great WWF game post-Acclaim. Also a *great* create mode.
Me and my brother had an epic journey scouring stores in NYC pre internet for this game; we stopped at any electronics store we saw from 125th to 56th coming up empty handed. Two weeks later at the Bradlee’s on 14th street.
2000 and No Mercy were and remain the gold standard. Shame they never made Backlash. These games hold up because of gameplay and of course the awesome roster. Good old days right here.
N64 was dying at the time and the 6th gen was already underway with the Dreamcast out and the ps2 just coming out when no mercy was released. I believe the sales would’ve been low for the game since it would’ve most likely been released mid 2001
That cover is iconic AF. The amount of hours i spent on this game in the CAW mode alone. Setting moves on my CAW is how i learned the name of every wrestling move
What's funny is how almost every wrestler on the cover of the WWF WrestleMania 2000 game (except for The Undertaker), participated in the same match at the real WrestleMania 2000 pay per view : The Rock, Mick Foley, Big Show, and Triple H.
I remember when my uncle got this game when it came out, We were marking out when we were playing it. I still have this game and play it from time to time. Wrestlemania 2000 was way ahead of it's time.
Bro, so good to see WM2000 getting some love... I've always called it the forgotten classic, because, well... No Mercy, but in 99 this was my jam. Still play my original cart to this day
Road To Wrestlemania mode was nuts if you pay attention to how long matches sometimes ran, like episodes of Heat were like 5 hours overall. like Droz vs Road Dogg goes 57 minutes and ends in a double countout, Steve Blackman beats Test in 52 minutes by submission, Stone Cold vs Undertaker vs The Rock goes 1 hour time limit draw....its crazy. I never took note of that before and then recently did a play through of the mode again and noticed ALOT of matches going at least 50 minutes.
I was one of the unfortunate kids to receive the bugged WWF No Mercy cartridge that occasionally erased all of my save data, so WWF 2000 was my go-to wrestling game up until Day of Reckoning on GameCube.
I adore the intro videos that play in the AKI wcw/wwf games. They capture so many iconic wrestling images in 64 bit graphics. The clip of Stone Cold stunnering The Undertaker is my favourite bit.
I got this game at a flea market back in 2013 or 14 where I also got my Nintendo 64 which was $30 what a steal, I also got other games like Super Smash Bros, Super Mario 64, and WCW Mayhem but with WWF Wrestlemania 2000 I never gave it a chance. Until 2019 I decided to play it and I fell in love with the game. I played as a created Goldberg against Triple H in a steel cage match and that lasted almost an hour since I was having a blast playing the game. The controls were incredible, then I saw people talk about WCW/NWO World Tour, Revenge and WWF No Mercy which I found out they were also developed by AKI so I just had to get them. I got both WCW/NWO World Tour, also Revenge on Ebay for $15 again what a steal and then got WWF No Mercy at a retro video game store for about $20 although I wish I got the version that was patched but it's still an amazing game just like all the wrestling games AKI made they never made one bad wrestling game.
Let’s go! The legend is back! Man, this game is super fun! The AKI games are always endless fun no matter what. I feel like this game is underrated as more people talk about WCW/nWo Revenge and No Mercy more, but this is just as fun too. I also love hearing your stories on how you were introduced to these gems as a kid. I hope you never forget these memories. Glad you’re back, homie, and I hope you can revisit No Mercy soon. Peace.✌️❤️
Mate, I was JUST thinking about hooking up my N64 for a session of this game! I have loved it for over 20 years and honestly think it is my favourite game from the 64 era (Zeldas and Mario's included). Thanks for putting this together!
I prefer this game over No Mercy for these reasons: full entrances, better faces, no slowdown during matches, all wrestlers have their entrance music, and better roster.
As much as everyone loves No Mercy I was always drawn back to this game mostly for ministry Undertaker and this being the middle of the attitude era where as no mercy was closer to the end
I just recently brought out my Nintendo 64 from storage and started playing this game again. Such great memories. Such amazing games. Great video as always!

I was also a Freshman in high school when WWF WrestleMania 2000 was released in late 1999 but I was playing WWF Attitude PSX and I brought WWF Attitude PSX again after not owning it in over 20 years
I actually preferred this one to no mercy. A huge jump from revenge, adding the entrances music and titantrons, other match types and create a wrestler and ppv. Def an under appreciated game!
Me too. I dont know why. I guess I just love the roster of 99 corporation, corporate ministry, Dx. Rock with side burns. I like no mercy. But the feel of this game just feels good to me
One of my favourite aspects of the Road to WrestleMania mode was that not only could you use it with a CAW, when you completed it you were given the option of continuing for another year as a different character. Choose a new CAW and your original one stays on the roster (replacing one of the actual WWE wrestlers). Continue doing this and you can (eventually) have a roster packed with your own CAW characters.
Dude, I appreciate all this time and dedication you've put in wrestling games. Just watching some of the older games that I've played in my childhood and teens brings back memories, especially since I've hardly played any wrestling games from 2009 up to 2022.
Fantastic recap of one of my all-time sentimental favorites. I was about 10 when this one dropped and have so many fond memories of playing for hours on end at my friend's house. This game actually got me into wrestling which is a love I still have to this day. Keep up the great work man, your videos are such top quality.
Fun fact before Mania 2000 if you create a wrestling in previous games before 2000 the create an entrances had few to no entrance parts that referenced other wrestlers both non-featured/none WWF roster wrestlers
@@PETEYTHECLOWN most or all wrestling games before Wrestlemania 2000, create an entrance was generic. Whereas in this game, it has everyone's mannerisms, taunts, music, etc.
This is my favorite wrestling game of all time it came out at the beginning of my senior year. And I’m a huge street fighter fan and they had create a wrestler options and moves to create Ryu, Ken, & Akuma even down to Akuma’s hair prayer beads and rope belt. I @40 still plays this game to this day. Hell they had the shoryuken as a move and hadoken movement as a taunt.
The animated in these games is nothing short of an incredible feat. The animations are better than a lot of video games in our present day. It almost doesn't even make sense how far ahead of its time the animations actually were.
My childhood friends and I used to play this game all the time, even after No Mercy came out. Our belt info is still saved and though we dont see each other as much since we moved around, we always bust this game out when we meet up and defends our belts.
I would have loved to see what this game would look like if it were ported onto the PlayStation One. Hell, someone made a sick looking PS1 fan port of Bloodborne and released that a few weeks ago. Add a few exclusive modes like Hell in a Cell, the wrestlers that were cut out from the game, CD quality entrance themes, and full FMV titantrons into it and you pretty much got it going on.
Word Up! The Bloodborne DMake is great too! The sane guy & a couple others have "D-makes" of a few games! Some are just technical demos but some are fully functional! This def would be great to DMake!
20:16 had such an occurrence in No Mercy. Had a First Blood match as part of whatever storyline I was following, and the first thing I did once the bell rang was to go and look for a weapon to try to do the deed quickly. Match was over in 52 seconds after connecting the first blow... 🤷♂
I remember when I bought this game! I would play it until 6 a.m. almost every day. Recreating my favorite wrestlers that weren't included in the roster and even coming up with my own original wrestlers. I think I still have a replay recorded on one of my old VHS tape of the ending of one of my matches somewhere :p This game and the follow up WWF No Mercy are without a shadow of a doubt the greatest wrestling games ever created. Those years were amazing for wrestling fans! What a great time to be alive :)
Just heard the news about Scott Hall and wanted to come here and give my condolences, I know you're not family to him or anything but I know he was your favorite wrestler of all time and this news must hit you pretty hard. Maybe do a top 10 Scott Hall matches as a tribute? Take care bud..
I remember when this wm2000 came out it played well and looked cool and was a blast to play royal rumble and other modes with friends. It remains a fixture on my RetroPie setup.
I was so excited for this game as a kid. I remember going to toys r us with my dad to buy it when it came out and I played so many hours on it. I played all the wrestling games on n64 favorite console ever. Great vid.
Oh yeah, great to see your reviews back on YT. The video has a really great editing compared to your older reviews, keep up the good work and dedication.
Loved the inclusion of Steiner math - the numbers don't lie! For real though, this is a great review. I especially liked learning about the background of the development and how WWE came to be developed by THQ. Hard to believe WCW would've moved away from a literal award winning formula.
Thanks! Yea, it’s a trip to think that they would walk away from THQ who signed with them before they were hot, just to join up with EA based on their status as a mega power in the gaming industry. All to backfire in their face and send one of the best wrestling game developers running to the competition.
So thankful you decided to revisit these undeniable classics... I tell ya brother I still remember the hours of playing this one at the afterschool youth Christian center with friends...In that gritty dingey sports room with the TV on the stand with the n64 man and having so much fun and that was in like 2004-2005!!
Right on! I was in a after school church program back in the early 90s in 3rd grade and they had a Genesis with Green Dog, Strider, and Streets of Rage 2. Great memories!
I love the fact that there was never a wait for load time on a cartridge. It’s pretty annoying to wait for loading all the time. N64 was and is still an awesome console. Loved it. Still love it. I feel like overall game quality was better back then. In my opinion N64 probably had the lowest percentage of lousy games of all the consoles.
ROM cartridges usually loaded fast because most of the assets could be accessed directly from the cartridge, unlike more modern mass storage devices. They did still load though: Banjo Tooie N64's infamous frame rate is due to it constantly loading.
Yes Nikateen has done it again with WrestleMania 2000 I actually got my copy of WrestleMania 2000 on the N64 last Christmas and I also have a Game Boy Colour copy of the game also hey are u ever going to be doing a ReReview of WWF No Mercy by any chance as well as a review of WWF Games from the NES SNES and Sega Genesis by any chance as well as WCW games on the NES and SNES and will there be more content later on next time
This game was very special to me, have amazing memories playing it! When I found out that iconic main menu theme was heavily inspired by Pantera's Psycho Holiday I was like "no wonder I liked it so much" (during that time I started to notice I loved guitar based music, mainly rock and metal) and the fact you could create wrestlers in the AKI engine, man I always ended up doing many headcanon stories with my creations! To me this game is part of the holy tetralogy of AKI engine games alongside No Mercy, Revenge and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2
I got this on launch day and my friend didnt believe me so i called him over my house phone and played The Big Show theme song on command......still remember that like it was yesterday
One of the main things that I love about this game going back to it, & what makes it really stand out when compared to the Smackdown games, is that certain wrestlers that you fight will actually wrestle you like the person that they're playing as. I wrestled some of the lower card in RTW mode & I usually managed to squash them in 1-2 minutes. However when going into the mid card where I was being put against guys like Ken Shamrock, he was way harder to beat & I had to change my momentum strategy to counter the way he wrestles. Yes, Ken Shamrock will actually fight you like he is Ken Shamrock. Every time he had me on the floor, he kept trying to put me in the ankle lock & had a way more aggressive striking strategy to take advantage. Going against the Hardy Boyz found me having to counter a lot of faster high flying moves as well. The developers definitely did their research when programming the AI for this game. Just because you're on a certain difficulty, doesn't mean that it will remain consistent against multiple wrestlers. It's one of the reasons why I always went off the Smackdown games when I took off my nostalgia goggles. Take HCTP for example. If you play on the hardest difficulty, every single wrestler will have the same AI strategy against you (besides move sets & attributes) no matter who you're facing & their reversals against you will just be down to a role of the dice, rather than momentum. You could be kicking a guys butt & he'll still manage to reverse almost all of your moves in HCTP. In the AKI games, having higher momentum or a higher attitude meter will give an advantage & vice versa, giving the player a decent wrestling strategy to achieve when facing different opponents. The AKI games are amazing & I always go back to them haha. It's amazing to see people give the credit they deserve when reviewing them & seeing younger people experience them.
Great video on WrestleMania 2000. WCW NWO World Tour was the first game i got for N64 for Christmas as a kid. I loved it and enjoyed how much better each wrestling game from Aki got. I was baffled at first when they dropped WCW, considering how excellent WCW/NWO Revenge was (and i was still more a wcw fan at the time). But i gave WrestleMania 2000 a chance and was blown away. I loved the deep customization and Road to Wrestlemania mode. It also made me appreciate how much more interesting the WWF attitude era wrestlers were than what i was seeing on wcw.
Although the WCW games did feature a better roster. The game play evolved with each new THQ release. I remember playing WCW VS NWO World Tour, for the first time too. I was blown away and spent countless hours on the game. It was light years ahead of any wrestling game I had owned or played before. Which were mostly on the 16 bit consoles.
Running grapples debuted in Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 which came out January 2000. No Mercy came out November 2000 as Nik mentioned in his recent VPW2 review.
Of all of the N64 wrestling games, my fondest memories are still of Wrestlemania 2000. Thank you for this review. I really enjoyed your inclusion of the THQ/AKI history, as they are an integral element of pro wrestling's popularity for the following decades.
WWF No Mercy built on every great aspect of WM2000, but it was also slower. Because of this, I tend to play WM2000 more often. This, and I prefer the weekly structure for the season mode
This game was a dream come true. Revenge was the best wrestling game at the time. Warzone & attitude didn’t come close to revenge. Getting a wwf game with the aki engine was everything we could’ve asked for. The first great wwf game was born with this entry
This game was a huge part of my childhood, it was my first ever wrestling game and to this day still 1 of my top three favorites, the other being wwf no mercy tied with smack down: here comes the pain. All absolute gems in my opinion
Man I remember when I first got this game Christmas of 99, me and my older cousin played it for hours every weekend. Spending hours creating a wrestler, and playing the Royal Rumble match, this was my favorite game over no mercy because of the Undertaker had his ministry of darkness gimmick. It’s a shame that No Mercy stole its thunder because this was a great that doesn’t get mentioned a lot.
The homie with another upload! I've been playing this recently too along with Day Of Reckoning 2. Both dope games. Idk if it's cause I'm old af now, but the Wrestlemania 2000 story mode is hard as hell. I get reversed every other move. It's still a damn good game.
This was the first game I bought with my own money when it first came out. I always loved making WCW wrestlers and some old school one to. Watching this video brings back a lot of memories.
Ken Shamrock is like the wrestling equivalent of Johan Cruyff. He may not have won the biggest prize in his respective sport, but he did something way more important: he completely changed the way it was played for years to come.
I definitely got caught in that as well and while I never sold my N64, it did sit in a box in the closet for about 10 years before I started playing it again.
I only had a PlayStation at the time, and was enjoying WWF Warzone and Attitude, but Mania 2000 was almost the perfect wrestling game! That game was the only reason I regretted not getting an N64. Luckily my best friend/Sisters Boyfriend had one and I was able to borrow his to play it!Another good video bro!
Thanks a lot! We didn’t have a lot of money at the time but thanks to some well off family members of mine I was lucky enough to have all 3 consoles from this generation, with the N64 and PS1 being absolutely game changing regarding wrestling games.
Totally. My cousin had N64 and I had PS1 back then. I had fun with the Acclaim games and later Smackdown 1 and 2, but clearly the N64 ones were better as a whole. I eventually bought an N64 only for the wrestling games. We would play Revenge for hours, and later the Smackdown games on PS2. Great times from my childhood. Glad I still have all these old games.
Dude.. I legitimately still play this game nightly on a handheld device... I play this, wcw revenge and vpw2 as if it's a 1998 universe. I'm pushing 40 and still living the dream that it's 1998! 😳
Thanks for an updated, more in depth look at MY favorite wrestling game of all time! The one edge it had over "Revenge" (for an entrance mark like me) was the entrance music! I was 18 when it came out, so I got about a year out of it before my daughter was born. Then I didn't get to play any games for a while...
I always dug the 1999 era of WM 2000 vs the 2000 era of No Mercy. I wasn't watching the WWF in 99 so I was really intrigued by characters like Ministry Taker, the Blue Meanie, Gangrel and the Brood, Prince Albert, Al Snow and Droz. Going back, I love that shortlived stables like the Union and the Corporate Ministry have their theme and titantrons.
This game & NO MERCY I think hit the perfect sweet spot for how to successfully have a CAW system that's both pretty expansive but also not overwhelming. Yeah, there aren't a 1,001 options for how your superstar climbs into the ring or individually paint each fingernail a custom color, but IMO the absurd amount of customization becomes a slog when it takes an entire day to create your guy before even starting a career mode. That ridiculous amount of customization is also an excuse by publishers to make the high-end suplexes/superkicks/top rope moves/taunts/etc pay to play with microtransactions or loot boxes, it just sucks compared to the simplicity of WRESTLEMANIA 2K or NO MERCY.
Hey guys, I wanted to give a quick shout out to everybody that is watching, has watched, and even going to be watching this video. THE, you hear me.......THE BEST n64 wrestling game on the console.....seeing that this is a re-skin of the 2nd best wrestling game of all time......
I had all 4 games
I enjoyed the championship mode because the story changed on whether you won or lost

20:16 had such an occurrence in No Mercy. Had a First Blood match as part of whatever storyline I was following, and the first thing I did once the bell rang was to go and look for a weapon to try to do the deed quickly. Match was over in 52 seconds after connecting the first blow... 🤷♂
This game is my childhood. Hints my name. So many memories tied with this. Thanks for the video fam
I love that game man! Still would play it to this day.
One of my favorite games I had so much fun with all four of my friends playing simultaneously
Just heard the news about Scott Hall and wanted to come here and give my condolences, I know you're not family to him or anything but I know he was your favorite wrestler of all time and this news must hit you pretty hard. Maybe do a top 10 Scott Hall matches as a tribute? Take care bud..
Dude, I just commented basicaly the same thing. I just remembered about Nik right away. RIP the greatest bad guy ever
I still play this game to this very day.
if no mercy never existed then this would be a contender for the GOAT
I remember when this wm2000 came out it played well and looked cool and was a blast to play royal rumble and other modes with friends. It remains a fixture on my RetroPie setup.
WCW/NWO Revenge,
WWF WrestleMania 2000 and
WWF No Mercy are goated.
I was so excited for this game as a kid. I remember going to toys r us with my dad to buy it when it came out and I played so many hours on it. I played all the wrestling games on n64 favorite console ever. Great vid.
Thanks! I remember buying so many games at Toys R Us and KayBee Toys. Both gone, but many memories remain.

Am I listening to a fevered dream? Also,Al Snow really seems to love head.
Oh yeah, great to see your reviews back on YT. The video has a really great editing compared to your older reviews, keep up the good work and dedication.
I remember getting this game for Christmas 🎄 back in 1999 I was so excited that year
Loved the inclusion of Steiner math - the numbers don't lie!
Harry Cox was always my favorite wrestler. He is a for sure future Hall of famer.
I got this on launch day and my friend didnt believe me so i called him over my house phone and played The Big Show theme song on command......still remember that like it was yesterday
Haha, that’s awesome!
R.I.P. Scott Hall.
Good video! Always loved this game so much. You’re very handsome by the way!
Well done video! It was a great trip down memory lane for such a splendid game which from world tour to no mercy I spent far to much time on.
This has my favourite roster of any wrestling game.
Bro love this new revisiting series, keep ‘em coming!
Thanks! Will do!
I played this before No Mercy so it was more special to me
Man I remember when I first got this game Christmas of 99, me and my older cousin played it for hours every weekend. Spending hours creating a wrestler, and playing the Royal Rumble match, this was my favorite game over no mercy because of the Undertaker had his ministry of darkness gimmick. It’s a shame that No Mercy stole its thunder because this was a great that doesn’t get mentioned a lot.
Agreed! This game was straight up epic.
The homie with another upload! I've been playing this recently too along with Day Of Reckoning 2. Both dope games. Idk if it's cause I'm old af now, but the Wrestlemania 2000 story mode is hard as hell. I get reversed every other move. It's still a damn good game.
The Road to WrestleMania mode definitely amps up the difficulty when it comes to the AI countering. Sometimes it’s borderline ridiculous!
@NikateeN Aight, I thought I was bugging 🤣 I know my reflexes went down over the years, but damn I was getting my ass kicked.
This was the first game I bought with my own money when it first came out. I always loved making WCW wrestlers and some old school one to. Watching this video brings back a lot of memories.
Back again with another classic
Ken Shamrock is like the wrestling equivalent of Johan Cruyff. He may not have won the biggest prize in his respective sport, but he did something way more important: he completely changed the way it was played for years to come.
I’ve been binge watching your reviews. These are awesome! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!
this was my favorite! hours upon hours ...I still remember winning the Royal Rumble to finally unlock HBK!
Hell yeah 🔥🔥 thanks man 😎 one of my favorite games of all time!!
Great taste my dude!
This channel is the best of the best thanks again NikateeN!
Thanks!
This game was goated. Took it to school for show and tell in kindergarten
This game is yet another reason why I hate that I sold my N64… Got caught in the modern wave.
I definitely got caught in that as well and while I never sold my N64, it did sit in a box in the closet for about 10 years before I started playing it again.
We would get along as friends. Awesome video. 😎✌️
Thanks a lot!
Crazy. I just got this game for the first time in almost 20 years and was playing it today. Same day you put this video out.
When I finally got my own I was on it all night. My first wrestling game that I didn't have to share. I loved it
The characters twitching after finishers was so dope
I love this ERA , so many memories makes me😢😊
I feel it!
My dream would be an ECW version
Kane's "burnt" face 🤣 NEVER gets old
Wrestling games are the only game I own on N64
Your videos and content creation overall has seen drastic improvements. Bravo 👍
Thanks a lot!
Dude.. I legitimately still play this game nightly on a handheld device... I play this, wcw revenge and vpw2 as if it's a 1998 universe.
I'm pushing 40 and still living the dream that it's 1998! 😳
More power to you man! Keep the dream alive!
@@NikateeN nWo 4 life 🤘
Thanks for an updated, more in depth look at MY favorite wrestling game of all time!
