Robert Plant should be given tremendous credit for not living in the past and resting on his laurels.Instead he chose to grow as a musician and forge a new individual path and form of expression. He has aged so of course he isn't the same person or performer that he was during Zep's heyday and yet he is still a powerful artist. I , for one, applaud him and wish him well.
***** They had a reunion concert last year with Jason Bonham and they rocked out!!! I loved Robert Plant's solo stuff and The Firm with Page back in the 80's so they have both done different styles which makes them true musicians IMO.
kafrenchable where was this show? as far I know the last time Zep played was in 2007 at O2 in London- I saw Led zeppelin 11 times back in their prime and although Plant has grown as an artist and his vocal style is much more subtle and mature even he would agree that he couldn't pull off what he did back in the late sixties and 70's-he was a vocal powerhouse back then-one look at the Celebration Day video will show you that he doesn't have the same range-which is understandable considering the time that has gone by-I am sure that if they played again they would Rock out as you said but it wouldn't be the same as it was back when the original band was together-some things are better left to memory and I think Plant gets that-everyone in that band was and is a great musician
I think it's important to keep in mind that when he joined Led Zeppelin he was a kid. The first album came out when he was 19! And by the time 1975 rolled around he was already getting tired of it at the ripe old age of 25. I imagine that from his perspective Led Zeppelin is like most people's college days. You got rowdy, you enjoyed yourself but afterwards you moved on and settled down. By comparison Jimmy Page was a seasoned professional when he put the band together, four years older than Robert, and was the culmination of his learnings as a session musician and live artist. The two have different perspectives on it and I imagine thats why Jimmy wants to reunite and Robert doesn't. It's Jimmy's baby while Robert WAS a baby when he was in the band.
James Fielding Uh Robert was born in august 1948 so he was about 21 when the first album came out but still young. I love his 80's solo stuff and saw him with Stevie Ray in 1988-awesome concert. I also saw him when he and Jimmy toured in 1996 and that was awesome too. I heard Page is getting sued for Stairway to Heaven now. I know they stole some blues riffs but they made it their own sound and are still the best Hard Rock Band of all time IMO.
My nephew commited suicide about 4 years ago... I remember driving a few months later and this song came on... first my heart stared beating very fast but somehow i was calm... then the guitar started playing I remember having this sensation of floating... When the lyrics started I just look for the skies and said "Love you Jos"... i just had to pull over and stared crying. The voice of Robert got me in this sea of calm and "it hurts... but everything will be alright, he always be here". He was 19. Love you Jos and this is our song.
So much respect for what he does. The general public would want a Zep reunion with Jason. And truth is, I would too. But kudos to Robert for never wanting to tread on what has been. In fact, he hasn't fronted a true hard rock band since the 90's. After his and Page's ill-fated Walking Into Clarksdale LP. (I didn't mind it) He went a whole other direction musically. I mean, when you were in the biggest rock band in the world, where do you go? He went, I believe, in the right direction. No one says how old he looks and how he shouldn't be trying to sing like he's 20 again. He's done it gracefully and with pride.
I think Robert Plant should be KNIGHTED for his songs of peace, beauty and hope. He is an outstanding positive role model to all. Quite exceptional musician/song writer and unique pleasant soft music of peace and love.
He should be, he has been overlooked by the Establishment. This guy has been a torch bearer for British music for more than 50 years. He and Jimmy should have statues in Trafalgar Square.
@@mickeblue please do some research, Led Zeppelin would not be where they were if not for John Paul Jones who corroborated a significant portion of their songs.
Oh my gosh. Few people have their prime years go from their teens to their 70's, but Robert, you have done just that. Your best songs now are as good as your best songs then. I hope you feel deep satisfaction with all that you have accomplished. (And I hope you aren't done accomplishing.)
In two words ---- "He Rocks !". He's never lost "it". Always had "it". Met him once in early 90's in Dallas. He knew my sis and sat and had a drink with us. Super cool guy. The real thing. And a gentleman I must say !
My mom just passed away, and the first song I heard after was this. I cranked it up as loud as it would go, and felt my heart fill up with joy. What a beautiful gift. Thank you for this.... :)
Kristin Thompson sincerely sorry of the passing away of your mom. It is difficult, this is a great song which hopefully gives you some comfort. He is great - you've chosen a great song to turn up, you sound like me, that's exactly what I do when I have a feeling I need something to make me feel anything but sad, or bad, or angry. Great choice. God Bless You.
Kristin Thompson my father was killed riding his bicycle last November and while not having him around anymore is tough to deal with, I know he's at peace now. Dad loved Kashmir- fave Zep tune.
Yes I found Robert in my seventies 😳 yes amazing.....I didn't know his music when in Zepplin.......but he carries me through some sometimes no one else can........Music ........we all need .....Music.....Thank you Robert X
It takes a special talent to engage the entire crowd, they're not simply watching Percy, they're enthralled by what they're seeing and listening to, amazing!
As someone who was alive for the genius of Led Zeppelin, I'm ashamed to say I was very late to the party. I've only come to truly love LZ and the solo Robert in the last couple of years. I'm dazzled by his looks, then and now, but mostly his charm and personality in interviews. The voice of that 20, 30 year old Robert was extraordinary, but the voice of this beautiful 73 year old is just as incredible. I cant tell you how grateful I am that at age 64 I was finally awakened to the genius of Led Zeppelin, and Rock's Golden god before it was too late.
Amazing! Saw him perfoming this a year ago alive. Still feels like yesterday. What a performer he is. It was amazinf standing in the third row waiting for him to show up on the stage and when he did I felt so much alive, I felt so much love!
And my soul can only travel with this song and the chilling voice of this man! Mr. Plant is a force of nature, a musical rainbow that time only improves.
Я впервые услышал его голос и музыку. Это верх музыкального и вокального таланта. Вот так может только он. Слушая его репертуар, можно реально отдохнуть.
Greatest singer ever in my opinion. Still rockin, still sings awesome, such a wide vocal range... power, compression, passion, sings through the passagios with ease and makes it look easy , the way all pros do. Robert Plant is the greatest singer of all time.
Me encanta.
:) I was looking for the right words to express what I feel listening to this on replay for the 6th time today ... And I found your comment: "... when age defines beauty ...". So, all I can do is to sing: "Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh, yeah! " :)

i can not say it better! I have been a follower since he went solo. Robert has done well!
Well said dude. He is a true rock god and shall forever ho down in history as the greatest frontman.... and yet continues to follow his musical heart.
sabiancrusher1 Passion, heart and soul. Good words, mate. Good on you for expressing, truly, what we would all have said!
