I used to fly with a charitable organization providing medical services in Baja California, Mexico, from Southern California. It's interesting to see the differences in international procedures. One thing I noticed tho is that you're flying from an area with less radio control of traffic into more radio ATC; when we'd fly to Mexico it would get real quiet on the radio south of the border and for us coming from the LA area, that was downright spooky (we're used to always being in touch with ATC and sharing the skies with lots of "heavy metal". The other thing that I suspect you don't deal with landing in Cairns is being met by Federales with machine guns when you land! We'd fly into very remote strips to serve those remote areas of Baja, and they would have platoons of Mexican Marines stationed nearby to interdict drug smuggling planes trying to operate through there. They would usually come out of the brush when we landed and inspect paperwork and our cargo. Despite the way it sounds, they were always pretty friendly with us.
Welcome to Cairns, my home town.. I would have loved to have seen your plane fly in.
Welcome to our beautiful country.
Next time bring some coffee please. LOL. From what I could see you don't ship down here.
HEY, that is an S-Tec autopilot, Superior Technology!!!!
yup S-Tec. I'm not super thrilled with it. It's lacking some functionality I would like to have like VNV
Never get bored of watching this guy, the most informative and structured pilot I've ever watched. Very nice and entertaining to watch. I learn something new everytime I watch. Keep up the great content Ryan. Cheers from New Zealand!
I really like your international flight videos, not sure why, maybe because they are more technical. Great vid!
Very interesting flight. Shows all the radio work required for an international flying.
That's the first time I've seen a Kodiak that empty. :)
The proverbial flying gas can! 🤣
Enjoyed this video ! Thanks for taking us along.
Flying an ILS in VFR is fun, although the radio can be distracting for amateurs. Nicely done! I'd like to see others similar to this.
I'm doing my instrument training right now so it was interesting to see all the approach and ATC stuff. Thanks Ryan!
That was great! I very nearly learned to fly at Cairns, but ended up going elsewhere. My only internationals have been very short by comparison, England to France, and Florida to Bahamas. I really enjoyed all the radio and paperwork details in this video. You still have the best job in the world.
Don't think I've ever seen someone put out flaps at 10,000+ feet before but I guess there's a case for everything.
Much respect Sir! A lot going on. I'd probably screw something up. Keep up the vids.
PPL UK, many cross border trips over the years. Brings it back. Being an island the only way out is over sea. Longest crossing for me was 30 mins out of sight of land, with an O200 as the donkey. I didn't notice if you explained the need also for aflight plan and the horrors of filling them in correctly. Love the channel. My homebase for years is featured on Nayland Flyers channel. I'dhave little trouble with PNG sloping runways. Thanks
Need to get clearance Clarence, Rodger Victor, always liked that movie
Outstanding work, Ryan. You mention radio work not being your favorite, As a retired aviation guy (avionics, engines maintenance) all that you do is a familiar thing, but I have always had an issue with the shorthand and rapid pace of airborne radio comms, sometimes evolving into a Peanuts Teacher Monologue (Wop, Wop, Wop, Wop). I would still like to do the pilot side of the job, but alas, I'm too old at this point. Thank You!!!!
Never too old!
Take a few lessons, you don't have to go the full licence course. Taste the taste of flying, you'll never regret it. Then tick it off your bucket list.
(15:30) the declaration re: food, animals etc is "Req. for Pratique" run by Dep't Agriculture. "Declare it, Dump it or Pay the Fine".
Used to do a few lighties in my time with them at AUBNE.
We gave PNG a shocking legacy in bureaucracy.......
another good video Ryan love it when you fly to Australia adds something extra then the mountain flying Keep up the vids man
Very interesting! Most surprising thing to me was that you have to track the serial numbers of the _pesticide_ cans. That was a detail I never would have thought of. 😂
not really sure why either
@@MissionaryBushPilot Because if there was an issue, it could be tracked, like if you died LOL. It's normal these days. Even the cows i bread need a serial number so they can be tracked.
nice flight! Standard Baro (QNE) is 1013 hPa which is equal to 29.92 in of mercury.
I have an idea…make copy of this video where you are commenting, pausing, explaining everything that is happening. I am somewhat familiar with flying but no pilot and know nothing about turbo props, ITT and sequencing. It would be really cool to hear your commentary while you have no workload.
I would try anything .but I could not do this...very enjoyable...
Mate you could almost be a Queenslander ;)
Standard pressure setting above transition level= 1013 hPa, I guess.
Ryan, a thoroughly beaut flight down to Oz. Thanks for showing the paperwork. I miss the Aussie accents as I used to live in Mebourne 18 years ago. Kinda makes me homesick... Cheers from NZCH in New Zealand, just a bit further (2100nm) to the South East! David
Transition level in Australia is FL110 mate, normal set QNH passing the transition level…
“So that I can get cancerrr” 😂
Very interesting flight! Top video! 🤩✈️👍👍👍
Not disappointed at all to see how you managed your flight into Cains. Good work and God Bless!
Love these vids and dream of flying the kodiak soon. Quick tip for inserting those mileage points - highlight the waypoint, press ATK OFST, and the g1000 will give the option to select mileage and insert an ‘new’ wpt. I have found this to be a great tool - especially when configuring vnav. Obviously there are multiple ways to do this. Keep up the glorious content!
Excellent flight, one of our favourite places is Cairns. Have holidayed there many times when in PNG and the Northern Territory. Enjoy your couple of days there……..Roger
Such a well rounded, competent, professional pilot - really envious of all that glass!
Hey Ryan u just missed cyclone jasper closing in on Cairns will hit sometime this avo or Wednesday 👍
Yes the paper work for Australia is ridiculous
Thanks again for ur brilliant videos
All the Best !
Jo-Anne & Winnie GC
Yeah I see that
Just spent a few weeks up in there diving on the reef … what a beautiful spot in the world
thanks for taking me home for a bit , Cheers
11:43 no wonder planes dissappear in the bermuda. 15:39😂😂 stay organic! That was a beautiful flight!
Excellent journey, thank you for taking us with you!
Awesome video Ryan thanks for sharing. I bet you like flying down under gives you a different flight path gets ya out of the jungle Bush for a bit Mattie. 😊😎
That was really awesome.
I did enjoy your video, cheers a bunch
all the best from Glesno, Poland
I always enjoy your over the water flights
300+K subs. Way to go!

Flying is engineering. This is great!
Fascinating!

Thoroughly enjoyed this!
Loved the video as always 😄👍
Smooth landing😊 hope you hold your breath and where gloves when spraying that stuff!💖🌞👑✝️😃
HECTIC!!! Well done Ryan!!
Nice!
Nice flight. Wouldn’t worry about the radio. It’s not gonna make you fall out of the sky.
Great episode!
Love watching your videos
Too good bro,God bless you🙏
Nice.
Great video! You rock at radio calls
Cool....
The paper work you have to do is insane mate hope you enjoyed carins mate
Thanks Ryan. Awesome video. :-)
Wow, great video. Seems like a lot of hard work.
Hello sir, I would appreciate it if you could tell me where you place the 360 camera, so that I can identify it, both on the ground and in flight. Thank you very much in advance and a cordial greeting from the other side of the world. All the best !!!
That was an outrageously fun flight to follow along with.
Used to fly into Cairns a lot, always inbound from the Australian side though👍
Now that whole approach is under water
Superb content and presentation much appreciated.
One interesting flight.
Thanks for the Flight. Entertaining and Informative. Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your family.
bloody beauty mate your welcome to Aussie
nice TY 🙂
So what did you do in Cairns for a couple of days? Nice place
Thanks....
This was a great video and so much different from any of your other flights!
Good morning from Minnesota USA! Great episode
another great video! eAPIS was a huge improvement to get into/out of Canada DHS, TSA, CBP, etc don't really talk to each other - pay attention to time zones!
Great video Ryan, thanks for "something a little different". Definitely a further insight after your previously shared Cairns trips.
God Bless, how's the family settling in "back home" :) ?
Settled back into life here well, thank you
Gday Ryan, Welcome to Australia mate.
Awesome video. New subscriber and CFI. Enjoy your videos very much. Saw a lot of things that I will incorporate into my future flights. Greetings from Las Vegas, NV.
Great flight. Im from Queensland, welcome!
Nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
That was awesome!!! Did you happen to film the return flight??
Thank you!!
I'm one of those weird ones, I love watching a lot of flight videos of all sorts but hate flying myself - I wish I wasn't such a chicken because I know I would love it! Like everytime I do go on a flight out of necessity, as I come off the plane I think how fantastic that was! I'm no pilot but I know a lot about flying, you know the controls and procedures etc.
It's so bad that even when I'm watching a video I struggle to even take a sip of tea or coffee - like I want to choke.... Hate it!
But I love the scenary of you flights - it must be amazing landing at those airstrips! Thanks.
I really enjoyed this. Your skills are amazing. God bless you Ryan
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting video, and content. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would like to express to you how much the change of pace was appreciated. Not to imply your previous content was becoming dated ,but a breathe of fresh air is great for everyone!
In closing, would you please explain at the beginning of your flights when checking fuel,ie,you refer to "harnesses " , what does that mean?
Keep up the good work and God bless.
harnesses, is seat belt harness lock. Black lever on the ceiling
Do a walk around the city and video it too, super interesting...
Always my favourite videos when you've flying down to Australia. Is it easy to fly into Indonesia from png?
Really enjoyed the flight! Very different from the normal flights as you said. How long did the flight last? 🙏
Welcome to STRAYA
Yep just saw it in the descriptions, missionary Bush pilot...
Hi Ryan, Great as always! What app are you using at about 4:50 to calculate portions of your flight?
make sure its a 150 vest
Standard baro is 1013 ;)
140 knots would have been about the speed of the QANTAS flying boats in that general area back in the late 1930s.
That amount of paperwork is crazy. I would have thought much or most documentation would be electronic but I am not a pilot so what do I know.
I could probably Google this but you seem to always mention the ITT when starting and so I wondered why that seems to be the most important and what it even is and maybe you could explain it which you’ve probably done before but I’ve only seen 20 or 30 of your videos, but I watch them fairly regularly And I don’t know how many other viewers have not seen or heard what that is why it’s important
It's the temperature in the interstage turbine. Basically, it if gets too hot, it starts to damage the engine
Cairns Is where I live. I hope you had a good Stay here 😀
I did!
Fantastic 🎉 God Bless You
06:13 Fokker 70
Does the Kodiak have a warning for if the oxygen isn't flowing?
Hi i like your videos, . Why you always fly without copilot.?
