    Hello,
Jacques Brel is a Belgian singer, but he sings in French (French is one of Belgium's official languages).
He was very famous and a very important representative of the French-speaking world.
He sold over 25 million records (not as many as Michael Jackson, but in Europe that's a lot).
He was very fond of France, and named one of his daughters "France" like "France Gal".
He died of lung cancer, probably because he smoked a lot.
    See you soon.

Brel was an unbelievable singer, but he was ever more of a master poet. Sometimes people forget the all the songs he wrote are poem! In French if you look the sentences you see the rhyme and meter. To me, he was truly a troubadour, a poet singing his poetry

the way he sang was the ancentor of the slam or the rap, very slow, then very rapid rythm while still pronoucing every word. it was his spécialité

Thanks. 🫶 I have a few cd's by him. All beautiful ..I especially love "il neige sur Liege", "La chanson des vieux amants" , " voir un ami pleurer" and " ne me quitte pas" . When he sang you almost got hypnotised. He died too young, 😢

The building of that song "crescendo" is a speciality of Jacques Brel's songs... ❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Bonjour from Paris worldwide friends. Jacques Brel had a ten-year career, he stopped in 1966. Before entering the stage he vomited because the stage fright was strong for him, he sweated a lot. But let's not forget the actor. Since 1978, the year of his death, he has left a void. Jacques Brel was Belgian of Flemish family and French speaking.

    Thanks a lot. Peace out.

Quand on a que l'amour is a song written, composed and performed by Jacques Brel in 1956. Brel's first big success. the song has been taken up by a number of French and French-speaking performers, like Céine Dion, .....,In 2012, Johnny Hallyday performed it at the end of his new singing tour.

I have to say that your choices with Brel are sometimes. I think that Jacques Brel's greatest performance in terms of rhythm is the waltz of a thousand times..

the way he speaks about love is, I think, the reason why foreigners see french people as romantic people. As you said: in french language, we know how to speak about love. A lot of french speaking autors, singers, artists, etc... do know how to speak about love.
And for your last question: yes he was very famous. Actually every belgian and french people knows at least "ne me quitte pas" and "le port d'Amsterdam" even if he's dead a long time ago

This song is not so much about love between two people specifically, but about the concept entire, like using it to prevent or deal with war (parler aux canons, convaincre un tambour (convince a war drum to fall silent)) or poverty or all the maladies of the world.

  • @antoine1915
    @antoine1915 Місяць тому +1

its a bit complex to translate because he speaks about oamantic love (it's obvisouly the case in the beggining) or chiristian love (to poor people, to speak to canons)

I may remember that you once reacted to "Formidable" by Stromae (which is the reverse syllabes of Maestro). His song is a kind of hommage to Jacques Brel.
