    This channel is I think my favorite for the SP404 and music production. Very upbeat personality and even more so, he has a real ear for producing unique music that not many producers are able to create. Love this guy. And, the pure passion he has. His videos take time and effort to produce. This is him giving out of that passion, the love of music, the appreciation he has, a teacher. A huge thank you.

      WHY DO YOU WANT TO SEE ME CRY?
      man, I was legit moved by this. honestly, it's not super easy at my age with a full time job and a family, finding the time to make videos, while away for work, or at 5AM while everybody is asleep.
      comments like this make it all worth! I genuinely don't know what to say. man thank you, I hope to keep giving you the content you enjoy!

      @@BIGUMAMI I've really enjoyed watching you for a long time now. And when life gets in the way for you, I do feel your absence. And it's not just the music that captures my imagination, but it also takes a hold of me and it helps to shed everything else around me and for those few blissful moments, I get to enjoy your music and energy, or, if I want to be educated and learn, I can. If I really want to pay close attention and go deeper, then maybe some of your music theory will plant seeds within me, only to sprout later in some unexpected, but useful and rewarding way. There is so much that you offer to your audience, driven by love and passion, that maybe even yourself might not realize how much positive energy and love flows out of your videos. I hate to bring up the amount of subscribers your channel has but I only do so to remind you not only of your modesty but of one very simple fact about you, and that is, it's in your nature to give more than you receive. So I wanted to stop, sincerely thank you for all of the love, time and effort you put into the videos. The production is also great, lighting, editing, mixing, everything. I know it's a struggle many times for you to put these videos out, 15 minute turns into 2 hours, or, an hour turns into 6 hours. I am sure I speak for other here, when I tell you that we all really appreciate your efforts here and I can a absolutely promise you something, those seeds you hope to plant, are indeed being planted.

      @@all.day.day-dreamer yo this is deep... damn. NO WAY I'M EVER GONNA STOP NOW! thank you for this. really! honestly though, I don't believe I'm giving more than I am receiving. making videos on youtube has honestly given me a direction with my music life and career, after many attempts and failures including being signed on a major label etc. this channel is my excuse to keep making music, buying gear, and just generally stay motivated. I'm usually a very slothy person.
      so again... thank you so much. I hope I'll keep inspiring you and many others for years to come!

    I still don’t see why Roland couldn’t implement the ability to hold down a step and change the parameters instead of having to change the parameters and then re-enter the step. Obviously the way the software is written would prevent this, but it’s common to have such a feature these days, so I can’t see why it couldn’t be added in a future update.

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  Рік тому +4

      that'd be the dream, wouldn't it... very elektron-esque, and maybe that's the reason they won't do it... up until this very product, Roland was a very "set in their ways" type company, like Nintendo. they've done a much better job at actually listening to the customers but I don't see them riding the bandwagon on this one (although I'd love to see it)

    Roland is ought to eventually bring the firmware version to v4.0.4😉:
    - stem export as you mention🤩🤌
    - condensed notes in the 16 pads as you mention🤩👉
    - bigger octave range🤩👍
    - arp/note repeat input mode🤩🤩🥳
    - a side-chaining capable compressor FX🤩🤩🤯🔥🚒
    - ability to set how many repeats for the pattern in a chain🤩🔄
    - A wavetable sound generator/OSC + filter envelope🤩
    - DJ mode : key lock when in DJ mode 🤩🔒
    - DJ mode :: force assign of Bus 1/2 to CH1/2 🤩👌
    Wouldn't that be a sick product ? As industry shaking as the original🚀🚀🚀

    Waiting for the playhead in tr REC is a gripe I have as well... I asked around and if you adjust the start and stop point of the loop, you can preview that specific section, but you have to come out of REC mode to do it, so it's a clunky work around

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  Рік тому +1

      I actually recorded this very method in the making of this video but then decided to edit it out because, as you say, it is SOOOO clunky and really doesn't make much sense!

    • @shifteleven
      @shifteleven Рік тому +1

      Man. This is my big gripe. I would love to be able to at least do one pattern, one bar like with a pocket operator - chain things and then recombine into one overall pattern. For that last one, the best I got is to resample the pattern chain to a pad

    • @blkrbbt
      @blkrbbt Рік тому +1

      @@shifteleven You know... I'm getting better at keeping things small and then chaining patterns... What I do is crop longer samples into smaller patterns, then chain those together, which gets the functionality closer to the PO style your talking about. And I use the resampling the pattern chain to a pad trick to layer as well.
      Now I dont know if i want it to change, since I have a good workflow with it. For longer arrangements, I picked up a Maschine mk3, and will keep the 404 as my portable couch setup

    • @shifteleven
      @shifteleven Рік тому +1

      @@blkrbbt yeah. Chain and resample is what I got too. Just can solo out parts later on unless I stem from each resample. Still - trying not to expect DAW levels of control is something I keep working on. And the more I give into it not being perfect, the more I’m just having fun

    • @blkrbbt
      @blkrbbt Рік тому +1

      @@shifteleven It seems like the 404 will force you on that path... and because of those limitations, an surrendering DAW level of control, I have had to make compromises that actually serve the music. I am actually arranging stuff in limited ways that help keep things from getting overcomplicated. I mean, I still produce 95% sh!t, but I am hosting Beat battles on Elektronauts, and submitting tracks made entirely on the 404.

    Big ups for doing this! A lot of great, informative stuff.
    The day Roland implements pads/stems export, I'll buy it.

    so helpful 🙏 quick question... when in chromatic mode is it locked to a specific key and if so is there a way to change it?

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  Рік тому +1

      well, the key entirely depends on your sample! If your sample is a C note then it's gonna be a C scale, and there are different scales, major, minor etc.
      if you change the pitch, say to D, and activate chromatic mode, the sp404 is gonna override your pitch change and switch it back to a C. so if you want a D scale the only way is to change the pitch, resample and then activate chromatic mode (and select the scale you want)
      hope it makes sense!
