Learning 'Paitsi' in Finnish | Meaning and Use (with Examples)

In this Finnish lesson I will go over the word "paitsi" in Finnish, what it means and go through a few sample sentences! Some of the sample sentences I got straight from recent news headlines!
What is "paitsi" in Finnish?

paitsi = except
(= Kaikki kukat ovat sinisiä, paitsi yksi / All the flowers are blue except one)
Less common (but still useful to know) uses:
paitsi = not only
(= Olet paitsi nätti myös rohkea / You're not only pretty but also brave)

As far as I know from Duolingo, "viisas" means "wise." But you used it as "smart" in your example. We learned that "vissas" has a second meaning. Paljon kiitos!

Yeah it means wise, but at least I sometimes use "viisas" to mean smart if I don't want to use the word fiksu xD I think "viisas" can be used for both meanings :)

Funny thing, the last sentence Hän on paitsi viisas myös komea could also mean Except for being smart he is also handsome. Relinking back to its original meaning. Thank you for the video. That last variant is really useful for me. Thank you!

I am finnish but think in either english or finnish depending on content I am reading, listening or watching. If I have just my thoughts it's a mix between english and finnish. When you teach finnish in these videos you use both languages while talking which is like my brain thinks. It's very soothing :) A bit like ASMR.
