    FINALLY! I found the right channel ❤ I have spent a few hours looking for a channel that starts at the VERY beginning on how to start embroidery. My mother made some beautiful things but I was never taught and to be truthful I didn't care. Now that I've lost my mother I inherited her things and I really want to connect with that part of my mother.

      Do check out our beginners playlist Doreen and we have a page on our website for beginners also that you might find useful. It's a wonderful way to remember your mother x

    I am totally new to embroidery, buying myself a basic set-up embroidery kit. I have stumbled across Sarah's UA-cam channell and web-site. Really looking forward to learning and progressing with my new hobby!

      That's great Linda! Make sure you are comfortable with all the basics (threading your needle, preparing your fabric, how to start your thread etc) then just pick a few stitches and go from there. Start small and don't be afraid to make mistakes, it's undoubtedly the best way to learn!

    THANK YOU!!! Many years ago I did cross stitch but now I want to make a wider range of stitches and in my own design (to say nothing of the fact that a cross stitch chart is now hard on the eyes!).
    Your teaching is so clear and easy to follow and generous in all the additional little gems of wisdom you give.

    Sarah thank you for putting this playlist together. UA-cam must have decided I needed to improve my embroidery skills as it suggested your channel yesterday. i haven't done any embroidery really since I was 9 years old in school. I can see that some stitches are going to need a lot of practice from me.

    Thanks for these how to videos. They're great, you're a wonderful teacher! I cross stitch but have always wanted to embroider too. Would linen be easier for a beginner to use to help get my stitches even looking because I could count threads?

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  4 роки тому +6

      Take the plunge Mari and go for a fabric where you can't count the threads! If you have done lots of cross stitch you will suprise yourself with how well you will manage without the safety of the holes! It might not be as neat at first but it will soon come I promise

    Hi. I am a beginner in hand embroidery. I really enjoy watching your videos. I have seen you put the thread knot on the top of the fabric and then cut the knot off. How do you ensure the thread doesn't unravel when you do that? Also, the back of my fabric is a hot mess. How do you ensure that the back looks decent and how do you know where to put the knot when you begin? Btw, the video showing how to do a split stitch has helped me a great deal. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

      I have videos on both your questions Antoinette, check out 'Starting and finishing your stitches' and 'The back, is it important?' in my video list on my UA-cam home page (just click on my logo)

    Hello Sarah. I have been loving your videos. So inspirational to make me start embroidering again. I have a few questions before getting started.
    1. Do you need to pre-wash the fabric you choose to embroider?
    2. You appear to be using a fixed/stable hoop/frame. Is this for the camera or is having it fixed better for embroidering?
    3. You mentioned using double fabric or backing fabric? Do you use the same fabric? Should you tack/sew the fabrics together before hooping and embroidering? Would using double fabric be better for larger ie. cushion covers projects?
    Thank you Sarah for your wonderful videos.

      1) I wash mine if it's going to be a loose hanging or will be washed in it's lifetime. If it's going to stay in a hoop I don't
      2) I use a Versatile Table Clamp: it's great to have your hands free! I use two for the videos but one is fine for normal use. See our video on them and buy from our shop
      3) Check out my video all about backing fabrics!
      We have a page on the website for beginners/refreshers, will useful info and videos that might help, do check that out Crochet sensei!

    Sarah, what marker do you use to outline your embroidery? Your outlines in other videos are always so fine and sharp, in your trellis video it’s metallic too. Are those erasable?

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  3 роки тому

      I use different pens depending on what I'm stitching on and for. The fine black lines are done with a permanent fine black drawing pen (make sure it is permanent/waterproof!). If you want to erase the lines use a water erasable pen (see the embroidery equipment section of my shop). The gold outlines in the trellis videos are actually screen printed on so they are permanent.

    Hi
    Where can we get good quality threads from in Uk?

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  4 роки тому +2

      Anchor and DMC make excellent quality inexpensive threads. Check for a haberdashery shop near you or ask Google where you can buy on line. We have lovely set of Madeira Lana threads in our shop which are the ones I've used in this video, you can see those here:
