Damn these new ones look really good in an evolutionary way. Good job Subaru!
Its got REALLY GREAT VISIBILITY, due to a low beltline, large windows, and narrow A-pillars. Something a lot of other cars just don't have anymore. But I'm going to order a set of four 2" spacers for the springs to raise the ground clearance up for better snow clearance in the winter. Think of that as a 'cheaper' alternative to the Forester.
Hey did you ever raise that impreza? was thinking of doing the same
Seems subtlety Volvo-like. I think it is handsome.
Him or the car lol
Elliott Manning both, actually.
From how the rear styling looks on the Impreza hatchback, he looks better. Overall, the car does nothing for me and is forgettable. The problem with the Impreza is the new Civic. It's too good.
Elliott Manning and more horsepower
you it is the new civic , it isn't 4wd. you can't drive in snow in civic or have to change to snow tires. Just keep same tires all the time with subaru.
really liked the camera work / editing
Cheers Mate , Thank You.. so glad I saw this .I have my eye on the 2017 imprezza hatch and had issues with CVT, ignorance of basically, as well as start stop tech. Still am researching.
WOW what a great looking exterior car. LOVED IT
Mine gets 30 mpg City
I actually really like it! The tailights on the hatch back could look a LITTLE better, but other than that, I love the front and the rims look awesome. Would easily have this as a competitor to the Civic/Mazda3 hatchback.
This inside looks nice, but the outside looks totally generic. I really am digging the civic hatch right now
I wouldn't buy one just cuz I think the rear looks ugly. I'd buy one cuz it comes with a cheap reliable awd though. Living in Ontario, awd is a must for our winters unfortunately.
I may be picking one of these up soon. Low milage and I want AWD for road trips. Never owned a Subie but have wanted to forever, though I am still a sucker for the old bug eyed WRX hatch. But this will do. Has all the features I could want.
how were you able to get a sport model with fog lights? our local Subaru dealers say the sport isn't available with fogs.
Mazda3, civic and impreza awd, which is the best in Winter Canada?
Is there dual zone climate? I've seen a few US models and I don't see it how it is in this video
we want a wrx sti hatchback please
Simple Skyline yeah they need to bring the subaru leforg sti to the states !
Just please don't call it the Levorg over here XD
Same - so bummed they ditched it
Or another impreza sti
Buy a civic type r
Just curious how this compares to a legacy 3.6r not as far as engine obviously but in quietness and handling etc?
I love Canada
My car feels like it's wobbling around on certain parts of the freeway. Is it because of the sport tune suspention/18in tires on the SPORT trim. Has anybody experiance something similar. Just wondering if it's normal.
Looks like this gen Impreza is more competitive than the previous iteration. All this model needs is an optional engine upgrade to compete with the likes of the Mazda 3. Either fitting the BRZ 2.0 into this (if possible) a larger 2.5 or downsized turbo 1.8? Something to put it into the 180-200hp/180lbs-ft range. Due to it's AWD drain on the engine, the Impreza will need higher specs than the comparable Mazda 3/Jetta to match their performance.
that interior looks soooo much better
This is a nice car. Will the US ever get Subaru's 1.6 DIT boxer motor? When a mid cycle refresh comes in 3 years this better get a manual and a 2.5L or 1.6 Turbo motor as an option. It seems like such a no brained to bring back the 2.5RS with 200hp.
TBH If you put a Buick logo on the front end it wouldn't look out of place. Looks just like many new Buick/Opal/Vauxhall models.
how is this 80% new with the same engine/transmission
Agreed. With over 170 HP and 6-speed manuals available in both the Mazda 3 and Civic hatches, this car does not compete unless you absolutely need AWD.
sssmeee that's the left over 20%
jjuhring1 wrong, mazda 3 2.0 has 155hp, and no awd, if you are talking about the 2,5 engine, thats other game
God dam exactly, bs its 80% new!!! Huh???
The engine is not the same it has direct injection and some other tweeks. Also the majority of Civic's and Mazda's are sold with the low HP engines
Nice seats! Good improvement.
Where is this filmed
I like this a lot. Great for canadien weather
MrBury74 *Canadian
+Alex Niznik - If MrBury74 is from Quebec, or otherwise French Canadian, "Canadien" is correct, I believe. He should have capitalized it though.
OMGWTFLOL I believe in French you don’t usually capitalize a country, languge
It's nice, but kind of boring looking. The platform change its nice, but the 2.0 engine feels weak. The Civic with the 1.5 turbo around 170hp seems to be a sweet spot between response & fuel economy.
Still I cannot see myself in a vanilla Impreza, even a sport model. However I await anxiously for the WRX & STI (especially with the 2.0 FA turbo) models which hopefully builds upon this improved platform in the future.
What is the name of those rims
The new Subaru platform is a huge success.
They should really make a WRX version for this however... I still like the 2015+ Sedan. Lots of room...still handles nice on good summer tires. I got some INVOs on there.... in rain... so good.... and on dry...great as well. They are quiet too. And yikes.... I didn't know the new Impreza's only have 152 HP... That WRX turbo really adds alot of juice I guess.
How does it drive vs civic hatch
Curious to see how you folks think this new Impreza stacks up to the Mazda 3.Ideally I would like to have AWD where I live but I recently test-drove a '17 Mazda3 hatchback 2.5 6spd Grand Touring and walked away THOROUGHLY impressed; it really did feel like I was driving a compact BMW. The new Impreza has a lot to live up to.
LoveMyZJ the impreza drives no where as good as the Mazda 3.
he didn,t even touch on the safety this thing has with adaptive cruise , blind spot monitoring , crash avoidance , passenger compartment safety structure best in class . I,ve just spent the best part of a week at car dealership,s looking for a new car and this new impreza beat every thing hand,s down ,ordered mine .
Yeah, it does have all of those but it's not standard equipment on all their vehicles, I guess that's why he didn't mention it. LOL
I wonder how it is against the Mazda 3? To me being a WRX owner from years back. Will the Impreza still impress.
Hey President you are the reason UA-cam is a great place to laugh at. Your lack of critical thought. Ever drive these Cars? Or do you just insult by I.P.? Loser.
Did not talk about the AWD??
It was mentioned and some time was spent talking about the torque vectoring. It's a good thing that the AWD is unobtrusive.
I love Subarus but I really wished that they would lower their prices. Here in Mexico they are not often seen on the roads. For a country with mostly sun, makes people wonder why they would even consider AWD. Subaru Mexico needs to make their cars competitive. I want to see an Impreza the same price as a Nissan Sentra
Looks great! Thanks to the Mazda 3!
solid car. i am driving my legacy. love it
The HB versions back desing looks like the new Focus' one
Nice improvements! Would have been a great car if they had given it a six-speed manual trans with a strong first gear; will have to drive a Sport version to see whether it is powerful enough with its five-speed, i.e., the jury still out as far as I am concerned.
or just dump the Mazda 3 6 spd auto and be done with it. The CVT faxing 7 speeds is a joke...too cheap to be the best
Looks great... especially in red
Is Cruise control standard it isn't on my 2013.
Yes.
Probably the only subaru I would buy is a 92 legacy with boxer engine. That was a Subaru.
What other engine was available in a 92 Legacy?
Can any one do a manual transmission review
¿Is this guy Canadian?
Wish they could transfer that styling to the Outback!
BeeeHonest I
can't wait how would the WRX STi look in this new platform.
Nice video, especially outside shots on the road.
NICE!
Subaru thankfully started making stylish cars
So whens the Review happen,or is it all smiley face, every thing is awesome time?
love the model subaru impreza
We purchased the 2018 base trim hatchback with the CVT. This was our first experience with Subaru. I have 3 major zonks for this car. My advice, DO NOT PURCHASE A BASE TRIM IMPREZA. Our 2018 base trim impreza comes with steel wheels and hubcaps. In 68,000 miles, we have lost 12 hubcaps. When it came time to replace the tires, we had to shell out a bunch of coin to replace those steel wheels and hubcaps. To the point that we could not afford the need to spend $800 dollars to have the spark plugs replaced. The other zonk is a biggee. That very weak 2.0 engine, does not produce enough power. It has a weak 152 hp. Subaru at minimum, should at least offer the 2.5 engine. That would give the Impreza another 30 hp at 182hp. 30 more horses would do wonders with this car. I now own another Impreza. Through my knowledge of purchasing the 2018 Impreza, I purchased a 2022 PREMIUM trim sedan. The sedan, because it is $500 cheaper than the hatchback. Snd still owning the 2018 hatchback, I do not require the extra room. And with the PREMIUM trim, we have aluminum wheels. Don’t have to worry about losing the hubcaps. However, Subaru still earns the zonk on that same gutless 2.0 engine. Now, the good news. We own another Subaru that we purchased new. It is a 2020 Subaru PREMIUM trim Forester. Congratulations SUBARU. You finally did something right. We have a very nice 2.5 engine. And we purchased the package 15 with this vehicle. Do we have the power lift gate. This vehicle, is perfect. Not a single zonk. Now. GET BUSY AND FIX THE SHORT COMINGS IF THE IMPREZA
mazda3 very close in ride with VW jetta but Mazda3 with less problems. I will buy Subaru impreza for AWD drive and space interior
5 door version is good looking, nice car.
" as good, if not better? " I couldn't' see anything else better than a Subaru compact at this price range.
looks like a little bit of Nissan Altima and Volvo put together nice styling though. but you have a lot of Maintenance with those Motors timing belt water pump can add up quickly
Please a new WRX STI from the 5-door !
So that's where all the extra cash has been going. Good for Subaru, they've been on a roll selling well for a couple of years!
well subie fans, you wanted a hatch, here is your hatch, it's not the hatch your been asking for but it's a start now they just need to make it a manual with a turbo
I really like the new design here., more Euro inspired.
Have been a fan of Subys "All Wheel Drive" systems for years but the Price Point / Power / & MPG's are severely lacking, for this segment.
@sherlock tang...You are right, CVT is outdated ...Mazda is slowing dominating this car segment with it's 40MPG and 185HP.....and their price point for their options...When Subaru can measure up I'll consider buying one..hopefully soon..
No, you can either get 185 hp or 40 mpg, but not both. The 2.0 that delivers 40 mpg puts out 155 hp, which is only more than this, and this car can get up to 38 mpg, which is not that far off.
Naturally Aspirated : thanks for the update, greatly appreciated!!
excellent I love this result hearvily transaction
nice car i like it
Subaru FTW!!!
the front lights and grill look like a 18 insignia/regal
The Best car money can buy
Are you guys gonna do the mean comments video this year?
Maybe if we can find actual funny ones. Last year they basically just got racist and sexist. It was bad, even for UA-cam.
AutoGuide.com people are awful. You guys are great.
please no more lisp guy as well
Buck Futter such a lot of fuss over a few extra s's.
i think the term youre looking for to fit that description would be "himbo"
👍👍👍👍👍👍 baby legacy
Awesome! It's not the guy with the lisp!
Time to redesign the Forester Subaru!
I literally thought it was a volvo b4 reading the title
What's the trim of this Subaru?
Infinite Lui, looks like a sport 5 door to me.
Will not consider this car with that little power. Get it up to 170-180 HP, I'll buy without a second thought.
Could Subaru share Toyota platforms ?
This is one of the great automotive mysteries because Toyota owns 20% of Subaru. With the exception of the BRZ / 86 they do very little sharing at all.
suspension is really nice.... camera shakes like crazy
eskil1u LOOOL
Then buy a Camry with like 80s Buick styled suspension. Good suspension doesn't necessarily mean cushioned ride; it can mean good body control & roll resistance.
I have a 2014 Impreza Hatch and its nice, but it's also not really the most impressive thing I've ever driven. My brother has a Mazda 3 and I do prefer how it feels on the road compared to the Impreza.
hi, I am confused on whether to purchase Subaru Impreza or Mazda 3. Kindly advice me now that you have the experience of both cars. Thank you
Me too. I'm looking at 2017 Impreza 2.0i-S and 2014-2017 Mazda 3 Touring. Not sure which one should I get.
Finally a normal interior in a Subaru! OK, Legacy was passable but not even close to competitive.
The little soo-bar-oooo. Wow
I don't mind getting one.
I don’t think so I bought a new one 2017 Impreza sport I tried to sell it with 52,000 miles now and it has a r unrepairable Recall
Hey Subaru how about the 205hp engine from the BRZ ? Then you would have a "Sport" model.
MPGT - resorts to name calling then blocks people:) Wow, you're tough
Jury audience shock involved jump bond soil.
not sure why the joke with a CVT faking 7 speeds when Subaru could have put the Mazda3 superb 6 spd auto and have a top notch powerplant combo. How cheap is cheap?
Whoever is handling the camera really needs to learn how to focus the lens. My eyes!
Subaru has to drop the WRX motor this new platform.. And bring back the hatch!!!
M1MyRifle they will
mac and more!
This is the Canadian version of the Subaru Impreza
So, it passes everything but the donut shop?
And the review covers the Sport trim only. The other trims don't have active torque vectoring, 18" wheels, the red instrument gauges, or the aluminum pedals.
looks a lot like a lot of Opel products.
The hatch looks so much better and is so much more practical. Idk why anyone buys the sedan version
So how does this compare to the civic hatchback?
The segment leaders are not the corolla or civic at all, corolla's sell a lot more but they are not better cars.
Corollas are not better handling, have less cargo, not sporty, no turbo, boring looks. BUT Corollas have reliable CVT, no oil leaks, no oil burning, no gas diluting oil, no leaky valve seals and head gaskets, no expensive repairs just after warranty expiration. I guess the buyer has to prioritize whether the driving experience is worth the sacrificing of reliability.
Subaru has replaced my Imprezza engine twice .now has 77,000 miles and they are going to work on it again ...it gets 500-1000 miles per gallon.....of oil !
Marktuyet Try using better brands of oil. Rotella, Amsoil, etc. Cheap ones like Mobil 1, Supertech, etc. are known to burn and cause ring damage in Subaru's.
Marktuyet get a hold of a lemon law lawyer.
+FCFordLord tell that to my dealer and Subaru ..they are the only ones who have ever touched the car .
What's the music at the end of the video?
The review is informative and sufficient, but why do all the reviewers on this channel speak in the same artificial manner? It's so strange.
everything is good about subaru, and i would have got one, if not for all the BLOWN HEAD GASKETS
California is just full of Canadians. (You just can't usually spot us so quickly.)
CVT Transmission is a no go!
Looks GREAT, no POWER
you didnt mention its too underpowered, servicing costs way more than its competition ie corolla and resale is not as good neither is mileage, this engine is thirsty but its not butt ugly at least like most recent subarus ie tribeca (looked like a hamster) or last outback before the present model, but AWD is cool but still overpriced. corolla will slaughter it in sales. butch ladies with angry haircuts will love it however
It's hard to offer AWD while keeping the price at a minimum. People want 300hp, AWD and great interior quality for 20k brand new. Unfortunately that's not possible.
Who else is looking for an impreza because STI is out of their league?? same.
5-DOOR WRX BETTER BE IN THE PIPELINE.
It has more Windows than an airplane.
Idonteatdog how is it a problem?
