The 2017 Subaru Impreza rides an all-new, much stiffer platform, but maintains the strengths that have made it successful for more than two decades as a practical, safe, all-wheel-drive car. Whether those strengths will be enough to keep the Impreza selling in the face of America’s current crossover onslaught or not, this is a terrific car that starts at well under $20K, includes all-wheel drive and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and offers EyeSight, a very strong active safety package.
All Imprezas get Subaru’s 2-liter, 152-hp “boxer” 4-cylinder, which offers a compact, low-vibration setup, mated to a continuously variable transmission, with estimates of 38 mpg highway, 28 city. The 2017 version of the CVT shifts more quickly between Reverse and Drive, which will ease parallel parking, but the powertrain sounds unrefined overall. The Impreza’s interior is simple and features well-marked controls as well as slightly more cargo volume than most of its competitors. Read on CarGurus: cargur.us/hJTvC

I think failed to be mentioned was that the "base" model has quite a bit more than just four cloth seats and manual climate controls. It has full power everything, keyless entry, the 7" infotainment system including android auto/ apple car play compatibility. There are actually few differences from the loaded model, except for the absence of the eyesight system. Honestly, the only way to buy this car IS the base model. This car brand new under 20k is a great deal. In the sub 20k car market it is hard to get this technology package, this gas mileage WITH all-wheel drive. If one gets this car for 18 or 19k which is possible, then one is getting a lot of car for the money. Now on the on hand, a loaded one pushing 30k seems much less impressive...

Another bad review- I have a the sport model and- It's not underpowered, it is quiet and rides better than my new outback and is built like a tank. In sport trim it is a good looking car. I compared to a Civic and chose the Impreza because it had a- better ride , better safety system(eyesight) and handled better plus it has AWD for the same price as a civic

Did you find the seats to be "too small" for an adult male or woman of "average size?" I measured a 2019 Toyota Corolla seat cushion against a 2018 Subaru Impreza (the sedan version of a Crosstrek) and found the seat cushion of the Subaru Impreza to be one inch (1") shorter on all sides than the Toyota Corolla. The width of the Impreza seat was about 19" across versus 20" for the Corolla, likewise the depth of the seat didn't stretch long enough to be close to an adult's behind the knee bend area.

VW makes a Golf SportWagen S with 4Motion all wheel drive. And the AllTrack version is not really a “crossover”.

I just test drove two 2018 Imprezas and they both behaved exactly as described in this video. About 2-3 seconds after coming to a full stop, the car beeps and active cruise control is automatically canceled. The car starts creeping forward and you have to put your foot on the brake. You can sort of work around this by hitting the resume button immediately after it disengages, and it will keep holding the brake, but only for about 2-3 more seconds until the whole process repeats itself. Perhaps other Subaru models behave differently.

I think its dangerously underpowered. I know they have the WRX but that is not offered in a hatchback.
