1:41 that screen is the most pleasant looking I have every see, its nice and flush and works with the air vents! 5/5
One of the better reviews. The CVT is good and takes a couple of thousand milestones smooth out. The totally revised 2.0 with DI makes a big difference IMO and is smooth and quiet. Vet nice solid car especially in Sport trim
Great review! Thank you from States!
Plenty of info in few minutes, love it!
Very informational and helpful video, thank you!
The previous Impreza was actually really good to drive. It had a very comfy ride, didn't expect that, the engine also sounded great even though not a lot of power it didn't feel slow because they rev so freely. This new version is a bargain now, not many for sale in UK in 2021. Most are the 1.6 engine, and although not quick, it does what it says on the tin. If its not quick enough for you, get a quicker car.
2015 Impreza, one of the best cars I’ve ever had.
What do you do with all the cars you guys review in Australia?
ill trade my lancer gts once Impreza gets more horsepower but I'm liking the redesign
I just picked up my Subaru Impreza five days ago on base model.I love the car very smooth run and comfortable but one thing I would like if Subaru can put more power for engine
Why buy it if you wanted more power ? I see so many people saying that on car videos. Are people stupid buying cars that are not right for them ? This Subaru has enough power for daily road use. If you think its underpowered, youre a bad driver.
I like this car for stability
"Does the new Impreza Imprezz...?"
Isnt the satnav system tomtom? This should be mentioned as it is far superior to garmin and all the other trash nav systems
as a 2012 impreza driver I can confirm the engine is the cars weak point. sure the fuel economy is fantastic but people dont want to drive a subaru impreza for the economy, the car is notorious for being a rally champion and the new models offend their history.
The engine is the least of its problems, there is not manual transmission available.
An Adorable Neko
I am talking about the Australian market, Canada gets the manual albeit a 5 speed, US doesnt, even though it is made in the US.
An Adorable Neko
In Australia it is only available in horrible CVT.
An Adorable Neko
I know, it's not just the impreza, Subaru is making everything Auto here, unless you get the WRX, STI or BRZ you have no choice. I just jumped ship and went to a different manufacturer.
Some people are never happy , i drive a 2016 3.6R liberty and it has plenty of power for me at pretty close to 200 kw flat 6 yet others say it is sluggish. I haven't noticed as it has no trouble keeping up with other cars such as 6 cylinder commodores and falcons and such. It is also just so effortlessly smooth even though it is a CVT it's a high torque model so not the same as the one in the new Imprezza.
no manual = no deal
Thanks for the review
It comes in manual
Jacob Eversole not in Australia apperently but it does in Canada and US.
Decline commitment retain course until return model
Hello CarAdvice, how tall is the reviewer to give me an idea of rear seat legroom? Any word on STI and WRX release dates?
at least a year for wrx version of this
The vehicle is great. Your car review is not that great but appreciated
He seems as if he would be happier in a Merc thats 3x the price for 1/2 the value. Simply because of branding
For some reason the front reminds me of a Tesla model S, what a sexy car
I'm guessing the car reviewer forgot it's a compact car so the back seats weren't meant to be spacious.
Very good car
Is the manual transmission top gear (5th?) still much shorter with higher engine RPM and fuel consumption than the final ratio in the CVT? If so, why?
I know that was a complaint of the previous Impreza/Crosstrek. Also do you know when and how much the new Crosstrek will be? Thanks.
Subaru should've offered the 1.6 turbo as an engine
If they offered the 1.6 turbo with a 6 speed manual I would have got one.
totally agree, small capacity turbo would have been ideal, lighter faster and better fuel economy, a no brainer and a win win..chassis is really good windscreen replacement sucks, $1000 with all that unnecessary shit stuck to it which must be totally recalibrated upon replacement!!!!!!!!!!
With any Subaru with eyesight it's essential to get glass coverage with your insurance provider tbh
dji zzah
Didn't know that, don't need a camera based system anyway, I would take a manual over that eyesight crap.
Why do subaru still charge you $1000 for parking sensors what a joke
elmin2323 there are many companies that come to your house and install parking sensors while your car is parked in your garage. I paid under $300 for rear parking sensors fully installed and I didn't have to leave my house.
THEAC83 joke tho man even the top of the range doesn't have it!
THEAC83 at least have front sensors and a camrta
Mate Subaru charge you $10000000 for bumper clips fucking hell
Most dealers charge $900 for window tint you can get someone to do it for $150. Have you compared it with any other cars, we don't want to hear your sob story.
Better than vw golf
I test drove one today, the styling and interior is fantastic! Pity it feels so so so underpowered compared to the competition.
Could anyone tell me how much can buy Impreza premium hatch please.thank you
kuroo 8 I've just got myself a brand new subaru Impreza, and I can not phrase it enough, I've just recently driven to Melbourne from the border, and to Sydney, it's comfortable, refined, economical, and a very strong high quality well put together car, that's also a pleasure and fun to drive, I've had many cars in my time, but this one, is one of the very best for this segment or category
Stan Weeks good post. Its not all about power. Too many fools on the road that think its a racetrack out there, or their ego gets hurt if they cant keep up with an M3. This Subaru should just be enjoyed for what it is. A solid reliable car that will make a good long term choice.
I took note of the reviewers comment about the CVT "being a bit of a mess" at times - I own a 2017 Forester with the supposedly "upgraded" CVT and he is right....the CVT is a mess and I am assuming the Forester CVT is similar if not identical in design as the Impreza....sometimes it works quite well but other times - slow driving particularly - - it lurches and shudders....its VERY annoying and makes what is otherwise an outstanding vehicle not fun to drive most of the time...I wish Subaru would take lessons from Honda...they have a very well sorted CVT - IF ONLY my Forester had a modern, well crafted 6 speed traditional automatic, it would be THE small SUV of the year every year! The mess of a CVT ruins it...
I have the 2016 Subaru liberty 3.6R and it uses a high torque version of the CVT. It is quite brilliant. Super quiet, ultra smooth and barely noticable to be honest. I did hear the ones in the 4 cylinder models are not so good though. Overall i have been very happy with the 3.6R liberty and would pick it over this new Imprezza with it's lack of power any day of the week.
Good to still see a small car offer so much though but it really needs a much better engine. This will fail in Australia due to the opposition offering far stronger engines for the same or less money.
Also not a fan of the horrible looking centre display screen and side mounted vents. it just looks stuck on and ugly. The integrated system in the Liberty just looks much classier even if it misses out on android Auto and apple car play. The 12 Speaker system still sounds great anyway. I think the max on the new imprezza is 8.
Tyre pressure monitors seem like a waste of time in an underpowered car like this. It's not a feature of the Liberty but i use Nitrogen in the tyres at 38 psi anyway and it drives and handles beautifully.
The CVT is choppy in lower creep speeds, like when creeping in traffic. it's a big down side for this vehicle.
i got used to it after a couple weeks, just gotta be real light and smooth on the throttle
Gearing is odd when cornering at lower speeds too. I’m not sure if it’s I’m still use to my previous car but I especially noticed it on my test drive
If this car is at least 5-6 speed auto and 170hp or above then I'll buy it for sure.
that's what my 2006 has and it's fun to drive. the fact that the newer cars have only 150hp is kinda sad. gotta improve those emissions somehow though, i guess.
So why watch the review if its not the car for you then ?
Does the new Impreza suffer from blown head gasket problems?
It depends on how you drive it ... so it odes not suffer from blown head gasket problems more than any other car ... However if you are referring to the 2001-2003 Forester problem it is time for you to get out of that rock you have been under for more than a decade
We had an 07 Liberty/Legacy 3.0 premium. So it was the H6. We had a head gasket leak, so no the problem did not only affect 01-03.
You should redo this video as the speed you took the speed hump at at 4.12 was illegal.
Why ? Speed humps are meant to be taken slow it is why they are there so as to slow down the traffic. Promoting a video by speeding over them is hardly a good idea. Perhaps you are a hoon and love the police tailing you but sensible people do not live their life that way.
If they are going to promote something in such a public way they should uphold an ethical standard is all.
Seeing you are into insulting people on a regular basis i have reported your conduct anyway. I was no disrespectful to you in any way shape or form so you have no right reply in such a manner. There should be the same ethical standard online as offline so you are the one with the problem not myself.
In any case good luck with your channel.
I've forwarded this to the police department to see what they think about speeding in inappropriate areas in any case so expect a follow up. They frown on people breaking the law so perhaps they will get you to see reason seeing you don't listen to common sense.
I liked it,
+louis shieh - we liked that you liked it
My old 2004 Mazda 3 SP23 had 115kw and 203nm. That was way back in 2004! This thing is severely underpowered for a 2016 car. It also looks already outdated compared to my 2014 SP25 Astina. I think Subaru try to sway buyers to purchase their WRX models.
That Mazda you are referring to has a 2.3L engine and your current Mazda has a 2.5L engine. You are talking about apples and oranges. why don't you compare the 2.0L Mazda engines with this Impreza engine?
i think he means the sport model which doesn't offer a sports engine though. It's a fair comment though i don't agree mazda 3 is better as i can't stand the car or the look of it but i see where they are coming from when it comes to power output.
Remember when the Impreza looked good? Need the 1st and 2nd generations back.
hm, I kinda disagree on this.
- you state the old cars wherent good, to be honest you say they wherent good driver cars handling and such, but this new one is an improvement..
-- I own an old impreza 2007 ( hawkeye - model - 1.5R ) and its sertantly a good drivers car with a impresive good feel for the car when you drive it... so, if you think the old once where worse than the new one, I presume the new one is great, and you just lack the skill to know a good drivers car when you test it.
These cars and mine are low budget cars with no sti / wrx upgrades, so they do amazing for the price, compared to most cars out there, they are way better "drivers cars" - and ive been driving alot of brands in the normal price ranges.
and then you use half of the video on camera´s and sunroof.. who actually cares about that when buying an Impreza,
awd - reliability - and driving pleasure are the point of this car..
The styling isnt great, but it will do, yet I prefere Sedans !
hello fellow NA GG driver( hawkeye 2006 2.0R MT here). Yeah but these randome car reviewers channels don't seem to cater to people who actually care about driving. Its more for people who care about gadgets.
Hey, funny, MT here to ;)
- Gadgets are what some brands use to try and sell a shitty car so people can brag about the "bling effect" of having things like ""mirrow egde anti sparkling features"" ( no, I have never heard of it just a random thing I made up) - but people will buy the car if the salesman says its the newest feature out on the market :D
And. yet, you are right those youtube car reviewers are probably only capable of reading the gadget list from the dealership rather than finding out of those things that makes a subaru "a subaru"
MY Hawk has 156000 Km ( 96.000 miles ) on the clock, and still going strong :)
We bought the 2018 Impreza base trim hatchback. 2 Major zonks. One being an ultra weak 2.0 engine. The 2.5 would have been a better choice. The 2.5, offers 30 more ho with virtually the same mpg. The second zonk. Put wheels on the base model. We have lost 12 hubcaps. A pain in the ass. We have since, purchased aftermarket wheels for our car. I suggest that if you are planning to purchase anew Impreza, stay away from the base. Get at least the premium trim. And shame on you Subaru for installing this weak little 2.0 engine. We also purchased a 2022 Impreza premium trim sedan. Got a zonk on it as well. It comes with heated seats. I would gladly give up the CD player, for a heated steering wheel. If it is so cold that you need to heat your tush, it would be Beni ficus lol to heat the steering wheel. It still has the super weak 2.0 engine. Subaru refuses to listen. We also own a 2020 premium trim forester. Not going to give Subaru a hard time with this vehicle. It gets a 10 out of a possible 10. We live this vehicle.
Love
so thats a xv
Looks like an xv with baby shoes
This thing is like a few centimeters away from being an MPV, a wagon or SUV.
And that's why it is called a HATCHBACK.
The hatch is slow, and uninspiring. Unfortunate, because great looks and amazing inside. Subaru, what happened to performance. You seem to be making meek family cars with boring engines.
Just purchased one! So excited. Totally irrelevant, what is your accent?
Aussie
I think new Impreza was designed for US.
You mean for the people who can't care less about hatchbacks
Elfish Coder
No ... Actually WOULDN'T care less
too underpowered and cvt is like a golfcart transmission, expensive too compared to a corolla which is what its trying to be. servicing costs will give you a nosebleed. $600 for the first year thats almost $20 a week. korean rivals slaughter this for warranty and capped price servicing. not quite as ugly as previous models and AWD is good
Where are you? Even in Australia European junk cars such as VW are more suitable to what you try to describe ... So stop whining and get real, Toyota does not have a hatchback in this class for Subaru to compete.
Fussinated the corolla in this country is a hatchback
dji zzah AWD too? I just checked ... Toyota Corolla E160 does not have a hatchback chassis but a wagon.
Fussinated www3.toyota.com.au/Corolla/offers?gclid=CjwKEAiAqJjDBRCG5KK6hq_juDwSJABRm03h99X0Fn8x8FpBoA3zU67qChJKTnReBJOKDtZVHq4v8xoCGbnw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CNaLyMrTm9ECFRARvQodP-gBXQ
dji zzah OK! Thanks
so boring not outrageous like old ones.
mts
I wish car testers would stop using the phrase "....big enough for a person like me". That has VERY LITTLE meaning if you don't tell us how tall you are.
Example? I am 6 ft 3 and wear a size 15 shoe.
In complete honesty, I've recently been an owner of a Toyota Corolla in the 07 base model 5 speed.
There are too many automatic bullshite cars.
If I had my Corolla, I could quite literally smoke out kost four bangers and still have a daily driver car.
Nothing g and I mean nothing can replace the standard transmission.
I've driven ten speed split shifts and geo metros as well as jus about everything in between.
You have no clue what driving truly means until you have to drop a clutch and find the right gear.
You lost me at CVT... Yuck!
The Mazda 3 is much much better.
Actually it's a whole lot worse and doesn't even have a kick arse stereo. You can get the new imprezza in manual form in canada .
Sucks when theres no manual transmission
Why is everyone assuming that! It comes in manual.
dude im in America I got an impreza sport with a 5 speed manaul!!
CVT = Completely Vulgar Transmission. We just bought a Mazda 6 after 2 Subarus. I'd sooner eat a box of moldy arseholes than have a car with a CVT
front of the car looks so DULL
typical subaru. bland.
Thats not an impreza wtf is that eugh disgusting...
It is an imprezza lol just not a WRX :) . Huge difference.
No I'm saying it's not good enough to be considered an Impreza.
DEVILTAZ35 seems like you failed comprehension lessons :/
Well! you failed grammar yourself as It should be ''It seems like''.
Yet strangely in the USA even people that own an STI said it handles very similarly apart from the lack of power. That is pretty impressive in that respect.
It looks outdated already
