  • Alright welcome back everyone for part 2 of my how to install a gas heater in a shop series. In part one I got the heater hung and all the electrical ran. So in this video I will be running all the 1” gas pipe from where it connects outside to the back of my shop where it connects to my heater. After the pipe was installed I used my air compressor to put 15-20psi on the whole system to check for any leaks. My original plan was along with getting all the pipe ran was to also get the 4” vent pipe installed, and get it inspected so I could get it fired off, but half way through covid made its way through my household which delayed my process forcing me to end this video with just installing the gas pipe. So stayed tuned for part 3 where I’ll be getting my air leak inspection, installing the vent pipe, firing this heater off, and giving an overall review of this heater.
    In the video I used a pipe threader to thread some of my custom cut pieces, but with careful planning you could do this whole install with store bought nipples, and I actually used some in a few areas so don’t let not having access to a pipe threader slow you down. Although i’m certain you could rent one. For all my connections I used blue monster brand pipe dope and teflon tape to make all the connections air tight. It’s important when selecting teflon tape and pipe dope to insure it is rated for gas connection.

    MINIMUM test pressure should be 50psi and soap test every joint. In BC a street elbow in not allowed either. (where you added a union outside)

      I followed my local code, pulled permits, and had it inspected. I’m sure different areas require different things, and you could spend all day chasing your tail on it, but at the end of the day I checked all the boxes I needed to, and 3 years later it hasn’t blown up.😂😜

    Pretty good job up here in SASKATCHEWAN CANADA no one can do gas fitting unless your a plumber with a gas license. A suggestion what we do up here is a valve on the riser then we have to have a ten inch swing consisting of two 90’s on the horizontal. None the less pretty good job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      Thanks for the feedback Brent! I installed a shut off valve on the riser where it connects to my house. I think I showed that in my final video. Yeah I was really surprised that the only thing I was unable to buy without having a license was the vent pipe.

      Thanks man! I should have been sitting in a warm shop tonight, but one step closer though!

      @@brewbuilds Yeah definitely one step closer. And then with a heated shop you could do a sweet foldable picnic table for my new patio 😜😜😜😜

    I like the hole saw guide idea. So your a plumber or a jack of all trades?

      That little trick has saved me so many times! 😂 I’m actually an electrical mechanic, I build and maintain high volt electrical substation, and a hobbyist woodworker. 😃

      @@brewbuilds You do good work. That door you made looks great. When you were assembling it Did you put glue on each board? Or just the outer ones?

      Thanks a lot I really appreciate it! So I glued the rails and stiles, but not the inner panels. My intent was to glue the inner panel pieces together then have them free float as a whole in the frame, but I got rushed in my glue up and forgot to glue them. Hope that makes sense. And again I really appreciate the positive feedback.

    I'll be surprised if they okay it being in the wall, but codes are different everywhere. Personally I wouldn't want any gas joints inside of a wall. I'm not giving you crap, just telling you what I'm comfortable with (Steamfitter since '91). I do, however, want to remind you to put a sediment trap (dirt leg) in the drop before it connects to the gas valve. It'll help keep dirt, cutting oil, and little bits of teflon tape from getting into the tiny orifices of the gas valve. It's looking good!

    • @brewbuilds
      @brewbuilds  3 роки тому +1

      yeah everything passed without issues. I’ve never lived in a home where the gas pipe wasn’t ran inside the walls. Although it wasn’t in the video I did install a sediment trap (I didn’t I have all the parts at the time) I threaded on the temporary stub and capped it so I could pressure test the line ensuring all my joints in the attic were good before moving on to the rest. Thanks for your feedback! 👍🏻

      @@delswanson3593 yeah sorry about that! I accidentally hit publish before the high definition version had finished processing. So it was only displaying in 360p. So I made it private until it finished! I was worried people would get notified had posted it and not have it be available. Hopefully only a few more minutes. Thanks for letting me know! 👍🏻

      Don't like fitting within a wall cavity either. Been doing propane for over 20 years in the US.
