  • Finally got the chance to put the big brands next to each other, this is the 30m (33 yard) test with the 50m (55y) test to follow soon. I was actually surprised with the initial results. I had to be very picky to choose a winner on the day... a 2mm variance between them is nothing on 30m.

    Pellets are fun and inexpensive to shoot and can be very accurate. As you said from gun to gun results may vary.

    16gr (sub 12) and they are fantastic. JSB, Daystate and Crosman all shoot very well in my barrel. New sub and bell rung

    Brilliant comparison as always and as a UK shooter who is sub12 most of the time i find the 18gr always better than the 16gr. On the hight power side though the JSB 18.13 are designed for higher speed and if you run them at 880-910 you will find that out to 50m they keyhole I am not sure what the recommended speed is for the others. I have also found that on the 500mm Crown the harmonic nodes with the JSB are about 60fps apart so if you tried 890 that would be about right as your best group was at 830

    Gert, I love what you are doing with your pellet tests. It’s obvious that you are shooting very authentically, and what the results are, what they are. Keep it going!

      I have lost two 3 potential sponsors due to my honesty... I post what I experience, I try not to sugar coat anything. Yes I am sometimes undiplomatic, but I don't have time to fiddle around. Sincere thanks for the compliment. I will try and stay authentic as long as I can shoot.

    Hey Gert, super informative video once again. Apologies for my late view of this, I'm still playing catch up on all your uploads :) I am using the JSB 18.13 in my Benjamin Akela, I'm running it flat taps for hunting purposes and they seem to be working well trough a variety of speeds from 700 to 900 FPS (I think). Maybe I should look into the AA 18.gr. That said, I may be splitting hairs....... soos hulle se, draai eers die moer agter die gun vas. LOL.
    Well done and thanks for doing what you are doing!

      No difference between AA and JSB, except quality control. Same lead and same factory... but different dies used. Rather look for a batch that shoots well (doesn't matter if it is AA or JSB), and then buy lots of them.

    few questions, did you clean the barrel between each pellet tested? Did you relead the barrel with each pellet before you shot targets and groups?
    If you just shot 3 sighters and then targets imo you wasted your time, it can take 50 pellets to season a barrel from one pellet to another and then another 30 pellets or so for the accuracy to come in.
    So how did you do the testing?

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  3 роки тому +3

      No cleaning of barrel in-between as there was no evidence of lead staying behind, only some small amount of lube, thus all the H&N's use the same lube so no need to change there. I do shoot cleaning pellets through the barrel in-between tests to make sure I get most of the lube as well. The 3 sighters are part of the "leading" process. I haven't found the same POI shift between these pellets as I experienced with the slugs. With the slugs I need to shoot about 20 shots before it settles. With all the big brand pellet tests the gun settles within 3 shots to the new make. I also did extensive testing on .177 at much lower speed to see if there is a huge difference - couldn't find any, 3 to 5 pellets to lead the barrel quickly. Remember the Smooth Twist barrels aren't aggressively grooved, thus much more forgiving between pellets. If I do the same exercise with my Steyr LG100 - I need to clean the barrel and shoot at least 25 shots to re-lead the barrel for optimal accuracy. I try and make the tests as clinically accurate as possible. It will never be laboratory 100%. Then you will have to remove the shooter behind the gun as well. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I try and keep the videos short and to the point so I can't add all the other stuff surrounding the testing.

      @@AimSmall I would redo th whole test, making sure that hat barrel is seasoned only for the pellets you are testing. I used to laugh at lads shooting like you at the club going round and round trying to find what pellets worker best. The ultimate way is shoot a whole tin, 100 to season the barrel and the rest on targets, then swap to the next pellet. Not back and forth like you and they were doing.

    Hi
    Maybe you should throw in a not so popular brand in the mix every time just to compare if these popular brands
    are really that good , or maybe even the 19gr NSA slugs.
    Keep up the good videos , love them.

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Andre, the NSA slugs are super expensive in South Africa, at R4.50 per slug there is no chance I can afford them, I shoot at least 200 shots per testing = R900 (or 3 tins 15,89gn x 500)

    The Air arms 18.13 are made at the JSB factory, they are exactly the same pellets as the JSB 18.13's the difference is the air arms are cleaned more than the jsb

      Thank Ian, I have heard so many different versions of AA and JSB, from different lead used to different quality control. At this stage I don't know what to believe anymore, all I can say is that they do vary from batch to batch... I spoke to a couple of guys that visited the factory themselves, and each of them has a different story, even Matt Dubber replied to me after he visited the factory...
