If you want to read his book, he looks at the evidence in detail about the effectiveness of anti-depressant medication. GP's generally don't seem to inform people of this, which to be fair may be due to lack of time. He's not telling everyone to stop suddenly, just to consider their usefulness more long term.

i sincerely appreciate your concern for those on antidepressants. however i believe your argument is misguided. he’s a medical anthropologist with a phd from oxford, as well as a licensed psychotherapist, he has business looking out for those taking antidepressants with growing research showing how they do not help those with mild to moderate depression - research conducted and promoted by medical professionals. He is asking you to discuss with your prescribing and is not giving out medical advice as you are implying, he is giving a much needed counter narrative in the face of the pharmaceutical companies’ narrative which make them 100s of billions & a narrative that is very much actively pushed and pushed.
Most 'medical professionals' don't have a clue about the seriousness of withdrawal from antidepressants and suggest patients come off them far too quickly (typically within 4 weeks) that can in some cases lead patients to suicide. If I had followed what psychiatrists had recommended for me when coming off Effexor instead of what the online peer community recommended I wouldn't be here today.
