Dude - outstanding first look! I’m glad I had already subbed to your channel. I have to watch all of this again to be sure I absorbed it all. I think the R5 was worth waiting for. Really happy that I can use all of my existing glass too. I think I might sell off most of my dslrs now.
Thanks for watching and good to hear! I don't think you will be disappointed! Jake
great job! Definitely one level above other previews that just keep repeating the same specs without adding much real info
Pretty darn professional/ detailed video! Great job!
Thanks for watching! Jake
One of the best reviews on UA-cam. Thankyou.
Thank you, & thank you for watching! Jake
One thing I really wish this camera allowed is recording to SSD through USB-C
can it not?!?!?
It would kill cine line if they did that
BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k & 6K are so awesome to used thanks to that feature coupled with its compressed RAW.
That would have solved there overheating problem as well
@@mariap6271 agreed and would eliminate overheating
Is there a limit to recording time for R5? Pro Res Raw for 4k? Dual card recording for 4k ?
These are awesome videos. I admire your work great job!
Thank you! Jake
Some things you've touched on in this video are points I thought I was going to have to wait for, so thank you so much for that. Namely, I was curious about how powering the camera while it's turned on works/if it's possible, whether zebras and focus peaking can be used at the same time, and what's shown in the menu structures in general. So THANK YOU
Pre-ordered last night! Can't wait.
good job
You explained very well
It was very, very great
informative thanks CVp!
Thanks for the solid review.
pre-ordered.
Thank you for watching it & enjoy!! Jake
Thank a lot! CPV you are the best!
Still excited to get my hands on an R5 and get shooting with it. Thank you for taking the time for a fantastic and informative review!
Thanks for watching!
Kick-ass review! Thanks so much for sharing. Head and shoulders above the rest; and trust me, I've damn near heard them all. Exceptional!
Thank you for the feedback and for watching! Jake
I don't see the R5 battery grip in the links or on your website. Is it available ?
So regular 4k 60p isn't oversampled? How is it reading the sensor, binning?
I've asked Canon and they are yet to tell me. As soon as I know I'll add it into the comments!! Jake
@@CVPTV but compared to the 4k HQ it's softer right?
Yeah it should be softer we will have an image & sensor performance video out soon.
So if I'm interpreting you guys correctly, there's no overheating when shooting the regular 23, 24, 25 or 30p 4K - even when downsampling from 8K? And when you're not shooting the higher quality 4K, is the camera pixel binning? And how is the rolling shutter in the various 4K modes? I hope it's better than the atrocious one found in the 1dxiii
no it looks like it overhears if you're oversampling.
I think it said most modes will be fine on heat, but not the 8k modes or the 4k oversampling. I'd assume the 4k 120 fps would be an issue too, but I don't think they made reference to it.
I've had zero issues with heating or video quality while shooting in the highest quality video settings with my 1DX iii. The one thing I would make aware to those thinking about entering the high resolution video arena is there will be the essential need for a computer that can properly handle these files during post production processing.
Bravo!!!! Amazing video....👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for watching! Jake
Hi! What is the make/model of lens hood/barn doors you have affixed to the RF lens when you showed stills of your camera rig?
Is it possible to copy your camera's settings to a Card like on all the EOS 1 series,? If you think about it this is important and nobody ever gives this info, think about it. Many thanks for the video
Will there be waveform?
Awesome job man..may god bless u
Does it overheat?
- 8K30 unlimited to dual memory without overheating?
- 4K60 unlimited (downscaled from 8K) to dual memory without overheating?
I wish both memory slots were same, I prefer dual SD UHS-2, I guess that's on R6, but does the R6 also downscale some kind of oversampled 4K60 and unlimited without overheating?
It does overheat. According to canon you get a warning and you need to have a break. Watch PeterMc kinnons Video about it.
Great review.
Thank you!
Thanks for the great in-depth look for the Canon EOS R5.
Thanks for watching! Jake
What’s that USB port inside the battery port?
How was your battery life experience? Was it better than the published number for stills?
Does the R5 has the ability to record to external SSD? Because with such large files of 8kRAW i think external SSD would be the most cost effective way to do it.
4K 30p has a high quality mode that over samples off of the full 8K sensor and that's cool; however what does the 4K 60p mode do? Is that line skipping on the 8K sensor?
I think it might be pixel binned but don't quote me on this
22:09 I wish there was a version of the focus guide that displayed distance information for a grid of af points across the screen
Interesting idea!
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Very cool camera indeed. Personally I am definitely more keen for the R6 though as a main stills camera to replace my R and backup for my bmpcc6K.
Definitely keeping my BMPCC6K as my cam though.
And if you could have only 1 cam which one would you it be?
Marc Morera depends what you’re using it for
Depends on what you are doing I would not go for the R6
You lose 10mp
I think it is a joke in 2020 to release a camera with only 20mp
@@sebastianjo752 erm no it not the R6 will be more sensitive to low light and produce less noise
thanks a lot for sharing , just wonder if 4k 120 p have audio recording available , classic canon would cut it off . plz tell many thanks
No it doesn't record audio in 120. Jake
Great video on the R5! Best one I have watched so far. Are there any overheating issues in 4k 24p 10 bit or 8bit? I see the high quality modes are listed with recovery times but just wondering about the rest. I know you touched on it briefly in the video but wondering about specifics. I just pre-ordered one earlier this morning and will likely pre-order another one soon or maybe go with the R6 as a B camera to use along with the R5. Great work on the video! Liked, subbed, bell :)
Hey Paul, Thanks for watching! So the info in this video was given to me last week by Canon and they have just updated it again. When in regular 4K not over-sampled you shouldn't experience any overheating issues! In our upcoming image & sensor performance video we will update these numbers! Jake
@@CVPTV Awesome! Thanks for the reply! Can't wait until mine ships. I have been holding out on upgrading since the 5DIII just waiting for Canon to decide to compete with the other camera companies. They have finally done it! Thanks again :)
Thank you so much for this highly detailed review of all the video features! It's too bad Canon will not allow to record Raw over HDMI out to a recorder. I guess the best quality over a recorder is 4k 422 10bit ProResHQ? If you want to bypass the record limit with a recorder, can the R5 record internally at the same time (as a backup in case the HDMI cable is bumped)?
I look forward to the full review with actual footage!
Thank you for watching! It is a shame, however you can still record 4K 60 422 10bit out of the HDMI to a recorder and yeah you could record in ProRes. The R5 can record internally & externally at the same time where as the R6 cannot! Jake
How about the rolling shutter performance for both?
Will show this in our image & sensor performance video! Jake
13:58 The level of details, clarity and the color fidelity is simply awesome!
Are we able to shoot in APSC mode on this camera? Wondering if Sigma 18-35mm can be used or other Apsc canon. lenses
Yes there is an APS-C mode, I mention it in the video! Jake
Does this came have a clean HDMI output for connection to a ATMOS 5? If so this would allow shooting to solid state drive.
Yes it does! It will output up to 4K60 4:2:2 10bit. Jake
When recording 8K internally, can we still output an image via hdmi for monitoring? I would assume it would be downscaled to 4K or 1080p?
Yeah you can output 4K 422 10bit still, and you can record internally at the same time as recording externally! Jake
@@CVPTV
That is 👍👍
Just wish it was not a MICRO HDMI port, d@mmit! :/
Did I understand you correctly? There is no sound recorded when you are filming at high frame rates? Is this at 120fps or does it start at lower frame rates like 60fps?? Looking for clarity.
Yeah there is no audio recorded at 4K 120. But there will be when your not in HFR mode. So you will have sound in 60. Jake
I know that this camera can overheat, but is there a 3rd-party solution to it? Like for example, add an external fan to help cool it or even better, add liquid metal as a thermal paste between the processor/sensor and a heatsink so that it can cool a lot better?
What about the dynamic range for the still shot? Does it have more than 14 stops now?
Canon stated last night on the Q&A that the R5 is 13.5 and the R6/1DXIII is 14.5 stops. Jake
@@CVPTV for the still photography it is disappointed..Hope they can release one and only mirrorless camera with better DR and high resolution for still photography like 5Dsr before, very soon..
@@charliebingaman571 serious professionals always want more, not less. it must be at least a happy end in this price range:)
Great video guys, thanks for all the detail. This is looking to be a killer b-cam for C300mk3/C500mk2 shooters. I’m very tempted to switch out my 1DXmk2 for this...it has everything that camera does but in a much smaller size AND has IBIS, swivel screen, 4k120, 8K etc etc
Thanks Sam! Yeah as a B or C to the Cinema EOS cams I think this cam or the R6 could work really well! And you get a killer stills camera as well! Jake
best walkthrough I've watched today! and I have washed them all. lol. can't wait till mine comes!
I hope it's weather sealed then!
Totally agree!
Thank you for the kind words guys and enjoy!
with or without suds..
Post a review when you get it. I’m hearing over heating and large file sizes are problematic.
I’m should already! I hust want one!
nice detailed preview. can u pair it with a sundisk external m2 via usb
No you cannot shoot with an external USB-C drive, would be good for Canon to add though! Jake
If you overheat after 20-some minutes of filming in 8K, can you then switch to one of the lesser resolutions and continue recording immediately without a cooldown? Thanks for this vid, great info!
Not many people would record for 20 min so it shouldn't be an issue for 99%of users but overall this camera has brought Canon back in the game and is indeed a gamechanger for most professionals
I'm sure that depends on how fast the camera can cool down from that shut off threshold temperature because if it's still at that limit where it can damage itself then the setting doesn't matter.
@@keithrjoseph9528 That's not entirely true. It's quite common when shooting actuality, B-roll, interviews, vlog content to be shooting back-to-back clips over a longer period. Even with shorter clips that heat is going to add up, and (looking at Canon's published cool-down times), you have to spend quite a bit more time with the camera off (not on standby, but off) than actually recording. I often shoot recipe videos. For each 3 min video, we shoot the recipe through once with the presenter "to-camera". That's maybe 15-20 mins of continuous shooting. Then we go back and do another 30-40 minutes of back-to-back pick-ups and close-ups. That is going to work with this camera. I'm not saying it's a bad camera. I'm just saying that the 20-minute limit IS an issue for more than just people who might be shooting long clips!
@@peaceisnice You missed the point. You don't do all you spoke of in 8K.
@@peaceisnice are you going to be shooting 8k for 40min? then the only other 8k camera out there is the RED 8k for $60k, 4k24 pixel binning has no heat limit only the downsample from the 8k and 4k60fps and 120fps...also if you use an external recorder there's no heat limit but HDMI only supports 4k60fps which probably the only way to go if you plan to use 4k High quality mode
🔥 Great thorough review, quite impressive compared to my S1H
Thanks for watching!
Same here recording out to SSD would be an amazing feature. At least could do 4k@60fps out to atomos. I would love to see the samples of 8k and 4k120 video. and also compare the image stabilizer with Sony. Thanks for sharing, great review
When using an external monitor via hdmi, does the touch screen remain active for touch AF? And internal recording is still active?
The AF should stay active but will ask Canon tomorrow & yeah you can record internally & externally with the R5 but not the R6. Jake
@@CVPTV R6 cant record externally ? really?
@@adhi_atma You can record externally with the R6 just not internally & externally at the same time which you can with the R6.
It will be interesting to see if more extreme log curves will be added in mid-life firmware updates. Does the raw drop down to 10-bit in 60p?
Edit: it's not crm, so 8k 30 only
Yeah limited to 30 and it's 12bit. Yeah would be awesome if they could! Jake
I see at the end of your video, it overheats 4K60 at 35 minutes or so? and needs 10-20min to cool down then, sorry I can't be doing that. I can't afford to buy two R5 and lenses and swap them to let the other one cool off..
This is disappointing alongside the battery life. Hope the DR and rolling shutter is better
Well done!
23:56 is the hq oversampled mode only available in 30p?
24, 25 & 30p. Jake
I thought the R5 EVF refresh rate is 120fps?
Is 4K 30p recovery time the same as 4K 60p? It’s on the overheat record limit sheet but not on the recovery sheet. Challenging as an A Cam is well said.
Hey Norm, I haven't got that info currently but recovery times are on my list of tests for our follow up video! Jake
can you record 4k60P pro-res via HDMI to ninja V?
Yeah it does do 4K60 external! Jake
Keep at it
The overheating issues make me wonder how practical the camera is versus say the Panasonic S1H, which also records raw prores to the Atomos Ninja V.
Yeah it's definitely more a flex than an actual real world use I think. Most people aren't going to get much out of the 8k RAW mode especially with only 20 mins. Also because the dynamic range is 'fairly low' considering, I'm not sure how much benefit there is to raw when the Canon C200 is only another £800. If RAW is important to you, I don't think the R5 makes sense. But obviously it has other advantages that the S1H doesn't have, and it's way bigger and heavier, especially once you add a Atomos, so again, the C200 is actually a similar price and may be more useful.
I think it's a great companion camera to anyone with a C-Series that shoots raw. You can run around and get supporting B-roll, or stick with the 10-bit and avoid overheating altogether. If I'm shooting a project in raw on my C200, having a miniature version will obviously have some great uses! Have it live on a Ronin, throw it on a drone, grab it, turn IS on, and get some tight supporting shots! That's sort of its sweet spot - a miniature version of the other cinema series cameras, but it is also weatherproof and a fantastic photo camera. Having something like that in your bag is always going to find use on a lot of the types of productions smaller companies are doing these days. Of course, if I was invested in Panasonic cinema cameras, I'd consider the S1H instead. The record limit to avoid overheating is not really a huge deal. It's not like I'm going to have a card that can handle 20 minutes of Raw anyway, lol.
James Travis what’s the dynamic range?
Steven Bailey - I just find it a shame, as I'd love to buy in to Canon colour science and use all my EF glass... but I find it hard to believe that Canon couldn't design a camera that didn't overheat, if they wanted to. And personally I don't need 8K, but I do want 4K raw (and maybe even 6K) and improved dynamic range. As I understand it, the R5 doesn't shoot 4K raw or 6K raw, only 8K. I would imagine the majority of potential customers probably don't want the hassle of an 8K workflow, and might even be willing to trade resolution for better dynamic range. It just seems a shame: Canon have a lot of ground to make up, after neglecting the mirrorless video/hybrid market for so long, and I fear for them that this is not going to revive their fortunes against such strong competition.
So many competitors can shoot raw 4K or 6K - with increasingly good (if not AS good) colour science - like the Z-cam range (that includes an 8K camera), Sigma FP, Panasonic S1H and at least 6K raw coming in the upcoming GH5 successor and probably the new Sony A7S successor, it's just hard to believe that Canon will not lose sales. I think if I were already invested in a Canon C200, for the price difference I'd get another C200. I'll be waiting for the 'real' post-launch reviews, and hoping EOSHD's fears are wrong.
I think ultimately the S1H will have a more pleasant image. It has much greater dynamic range and much much greater sensitivity. RAW is not the magic bullet people think it is and 8K is a ridiculous, pointless format.
I subbed 😁
Great video! However MBps and Mbps are different so it's a little confusing when you get to datarates
Totally agree I didn't notice that the slides where in all caps, just to clear it up all the data rates are Mbps. Jake
This is the greatest hybrid release. I think people are upset it isn't a cinema camera loaded into a DSLR body, but what it offers in its size, at its price, is second to none.
Agree, they've packed so much into such a tiny form factor! Jake
The only downfalls is the lack of log2 and the unnability to do lower res raw, for me
please make a test video sony vs R5 8K, 4K 120P and 4K 60P with color grading
5:04 what's that port in the battery compartment?
It's for the battery grip. Jake
How long should I keep waiting for the Sony a7s III before I switch back??
There's always going to be another better camera around the corner. But, if you are heavily invested in Sony glass, I would wait to see what they have to offer.
Sony have confirmed an announcement for the successor to the a7s II in August!
How does 28-70 Lens all of the sudden get 8 stops of stabilization with no IS in-lens?
Lenses with larger image circles can make better use of the sensor stabilisation in the camera. Jake
I'm I missing something here? at the 16:48 mark you can choose FHD RAW, but I can't find that in the specs??
Nope RAW is just 8K DCI. Jake
CVP but it really looks like you chose FHD raw at the 16:48 mark ?
@@Mintyseden Yeah but it is greyed out, meaning you cant do it.
Where’s the pdf that discloses the overheat time limits?
What is this media you are recording? I mean the ssd? Is samsung m5 or m7 suitable?
Thanks
Nice Review , i see a SONY LENS on the Back ground
I’m a bit confused - is 4K 24p 10 bit IPB mode oversampled 8k? Will this overheat? This is my bread and butter interview mode. Considering the R6 to just avoid overheating worries all together
The R6 will have overheating limitations too. I will ask Canon tomorrow if the oversampled mode in IPB has a limitation too. Jake
CVP thanks Jake! Looking forward to what they say. I’ve been referencing your video on Newsshooter comments al day :) thanks!!
Just asked your question to Canon and even in IPB it's limited to 30 mins when oversampling, however when not in HQ at 4K you will be fine! Jake
CVP thanks Jake!! That makes sense - good to know. One other random question - when you hit the record limit of 29:59 does the camera stop recording, or does it roll into another clip like a GH4 would?
we def need a cf express dummy card to m.2 more than ever i know the have cfast ones but its now even more important with 1.8gb per min bit rates.
Does anyone know what thing below the lens release button is?
I say in the video! It's a 3pin intervalometer port! Jake
@@CVPTV Sorry, I'm multi-tasking. Thank you!
if...possible use Digital IS enhanced mode (70% frame) instead of Crop mode? it can release all video limitation for the Crop mode..
Don't see why not! Jake
11:23 nice, properly doubled datarates for 4k60!
Wouldn't it be cool if Canon were to add two small weather sealed opening plugs that could be removed to enable external cooling through a vent hose. One would have to be filtered, but shouldn't add a real premium to the price. It solves some of the overheating issues (but I'm not sure all), while negating the need for a noisy on-body fan. The vent hose could easily be managed at about an arms length and connected to an simple 40mm PC fan. The housing could be worn by the shooter or attached somewhere away from the camera.
I wonder how long does one battery last for recording 8K footages.
I think they stated 80minutes or so. Dunno if that includes the cooldown timing.
I'm a C300 Mark II owner and considering an upgrade to the C500 Mark II -- this still seems like a great b-cam for that. However, I agree with the lack of Log2, or rather Log3 which would be more appropriate for this camera, is a bit frustrating. I don't understand why Canon offers 10bit, but then limits the Log curve to 8-bit. Original C-Log is an 8bit curve designed for the 1D-C and original C300 (mark 1), which were 8bit cameras. Log2 and Log3 are the 10bit curves made for the C500 Mark I, C300 Mark II and C700. I think the 20 min recording limit is a non-issue though, in narrative filmmaking you rarely will have takes longer than 10mins, and in the commercial/digital media world its even less likely. In corporate and doc filmmaking you might run into the issue with long interviews -- but who would recording talking heads in 8K...4K is more than enough with lots of punch-in power, and as a B-cam or gimbal cam its not a concern at all (don't forget most cinema drones that can handle the R5's weight cannot fly for more than 20mins anyway, i.e. DJI Inspire 2). All in all, if I upgrade my C300 Mark II to the C500 Mark II, I'll definitely replace my 5D Mark IV with the R5 as a b-cam, and add the ND adaptor and stick with EF glass. I'm pretty much sold.
Cool camera
Can R5 shoot stills during recording?
Dude, you look cute when you SMILE - I like it and then... I want it 😅😉
Why do DSLR cameras have limited recording time and you have to press record again to continue shooting. Why dont they have continuous recording to the maximum allowed by the media?
Once it's considered a 'video recorder' instead of a 'digital camera', the tax rates go higher and will therefore make the kit more expensive. By limiting the internal recording times to less than 30mins, they are considered as 'digital cameras' and will avoid the extra customs duty :)
This would be just an issue for professional filmmakers. But they usually use broadcast equipment and might switch to a R5 to create few creative and flexible fill in scenes. They will know the restrictions. No hobby filmer or video blogger will ever need to run 8K or 4k120 for 20-30 minutes without breaks.
it's being marketed for professional filmmakers....
The new canon handwarmer!
Does not really answer any of my questions and really just reading of a spec sheet . Does it over heat and how long does it take to cool down if so ? Is there rolling shutter problems? Has the EVF black out been fixed ? What about the dynamic range of the sensor compared to Sony ? How does the battery life stack up in real world shooting ? Non of these questions have been addressed.
1. Watch from 23:43 for Canon specs. But we will be running our own tests when we get a production camera. 2. Rolling shutter looked ok but the unit we had was early pre-production so we couldn't show tests. 3, The EVF is new and improved and I didn't experience any. 4. Dynamic range was announced after the release of the video. R5 = 13.5 & R6 = 14.5. Those are Canons numbers. 6. Didn't test battery life as it was a pre-pro camera and we couldn't shoot with it. Hit subscribe as our follow up video will answer what I haven't. Jake
Such a shame about the overheating problems: that would make the camera a non-starter for me. I love Canon colour, and I love the adapters (especially EF mount with ND filters). I just don't understand why they didn't put a fan in, like Panasonic S1H (which also records externally to Atomos NInja V in ProRes Raw). For me the S1H has this beat already, and 6K is plenty resolution. And that's before the new Sony comes out, and probably a new Panasonic GH6 not far behind it. I guess they want serious videographers to drop 10k (in money that is) on the C300 Mk 3 instead! And no raw, with 12 stops dynamic range versus the S1H's 14 stops... this seems a wasted opportunity for Canon IMO.
A fan/airflow system would compromise the weather sealing. This a pro camera that is meant to be used in harsh environmental conditions. Imagine shooting at a sandy/high humidity environment with a camera such as S1H.. Based on the processing power required for 8K, I don't think that any mirrorless camera that will come out in the near future will be able to avoid overheating issues.
@@vasiliss3597 The S1H is completely weather sealed. The vents from the fan are external, there's no opening between the fan chamber and the body itself, so dust or moisture can't get in. The S1H has been so thoughtfully designed it's insane, such a breeze to work with on set too.
When denoting recording rates, you really should not capitalize the "B" in Mbps, as Megabytes (MB) and Megabits are not the same thing. 1MB = 8Mb
Yeah this is something I noticed once it was already uploaded and will make sure in future they are formatted correctly. In this I am talking Gb or Mb. Jake
The different cards in the R5 and the heat issues on both mirrorless cameras is an issue. Interesting to see what Nikon and Sony mirrorless cameras will be like
What's wrong with the two different card slots? Surely it's better to have options? Agreed overheating is a limitation. Jake
CVP will you do a side by side comparison with the s1h when you get your r5?
I look forward to Sony's new releases , after seeing this I expect they'll sell a ton of equipment. Digital photography brought the price of taking photos down but clearly Canon want to push it back up. I am sure this will appeal to professionals but the masses will look at Sony and say it's more than good enough for what I do and at a faction of the cost plus lots of lenses are available for all budgets.
So you're one of those typical cheapskates who wants $20,000 value for $2,000. Buy what you can afford and stop criticising what you can't afford. These new cameras are excellent value for money, assuming the IQ is what we expect.
So what CF card read and write speeds can I get away with for 8k 25p and 4k 100? The prices are pretty terrifying!
They are all pretty much the same.price right now. I would never suggest cheaping out on media as it's pretty crucial. Canon have a recommended list now that should have been translated into our recommend accessories on the site, but the Sony tough CFexpress Type B series is a good option. Jake
@@CVPTV how about those WISE cards?
I haven't tested them and neither have Canon so I wouldn't recommend them without testing them! Jake
Someone needs to do some tests, as I think many will perhaps not want to bother with a camera that can record a maximum of ~40 seconds of 8k raw onto £700 of sandisk media haha, blimey!
It's not quite the be all and end all that we were hoping for, the heat issues will preclude it from a lot of scenarios and battery life mean you may have think twice before throwing it in your bag.. We desperately need a full test, the speed looks good so shooting stills should be great.
It is crazy to me that people are so hung up on the over-heating issue. The R5 is NOT intended to be a full-cinema camera replacement! Let’s focus on what it CAN do. 8k uncropped video for 20 minutes. What other mirror less can do that? While I admittedly focus much more on stills than video it seems that video recording is much more about a minutes here, 30 seconds there, 15 seconds there. 20 minutes of continuous recording is an insane accomplishment for a mirrorless camera. Kudos to Canon. I’ve already put in my order.
If Ken ran for president I would vote for him without question!
10:50 I wouldn't invest in CFE card yet as its price will drop sooner or later and the that of V90 sd card is quite affordable right now.
The recording limits is a huge deal breaker
Agreed, credit to Canon with being open about it. I should have a camera I can test this with next week. Will include tests in our follow up video. Jake
Underneath, where the battery goes - what's that? Another usb-c port??
It's a port the battery grip uses. Jake
30min limit? Why? The EU ended the 30+ minute tax like January 1st 2019, what's the 30 minute limit for?
That's a question for canon I'm afraid :(
Goodluck recording over 30 minutes in 8K raw on a CF card
@@frostybe3r It's not just 8k RAW, it's using the stupid thing on a long form interview. Infuriating! Most people need a hybrid type camera for weddings, interviews, talks, gigs etc and to think that you have to worry about it hitting that time and syncing up blah blah. So stupid.
30 min has to be to protect their cinema line. It's the only logical explanation. I wouldn't buy this camera for that one thing because it's too frustrating when doing long form content. It makes it sometimes unusable. I've used my hacked a7s instead of an A7iii, despite being an inferior camera in every way, because I can leave it for well over an hour without worrying about it. Why does Canon have to cripple everything even with this seemingly holy grail of a camera 😅
@@jambononi not only is the 30min limit bad, but even without the limit, this R5 and it seems the R6 too they both overheat at anything from 4K60 after about 35 minutes (restarting a 5min second clip at 30min limit) 8K at 20 minutes or so. Then it requires 10-20 minutes of cooling down period before you can film again for that limited time.
