The fact the R6 oversamples in every mode (including 1080p) whereas the R5 only does in 4k "fine" and APS-C crop modes, is huge. I still prefer shooting/delivering in 1080 for most of what I do, and I'm SO eager to see the 1080p quality differences between the two bodies. Hope you guys can release footage soon!

glad someone agrees with me on 1080p...all the other are waste of resources. I would be more interested in comparison with sony a7iii that I suspect might still be better in some ways, but sony falls short in one particular area : no flippable screen which was a deal breaker for me
Canon needs to add firmware update for 4k60 alli-i, and 1080 all-i, please contact your contacts and express the concern of the lack of all-i
I think it can not have 4k60 alli-i due to the SD card speed limit
源代码inNote SD cards should be able to do that without a doubt, I know that the panasonic eva-1 has got all-i and also uses SD cards. It depends more or less on which SD card regarding the mb/ps
Someone asked that question during the Q&A and they said they might add it in a firmware if alot of people want it

question. with the R we have a mode button that gives us an awesome screen for video. These option are, A+, Program AE, Tv, Av, M, C1, C2, and C3. C3 is linked to the Record button when in photo mode. This is valuable to me with the R. The RP does not have a mode button, it has a dial. When the Dial is in video mode I only get movie auto exposure, Manual, and HDR without being able to program anything to the record button when in photo mode. Do the RP and R6 have that in common? Or does the R6 share the same video options as the R. Cheers from LA Nuclearfrank!!!
Does the R6 oversamples from the 5.5k sensor in 1080 ? Can’t find any information about that and great video by the way!

Thanks for subbing! No limits externally you can record as long as you want. The max frame rate is 4K60 4:2:2 10bit over the HDMI. Jake

Great summary!. I pre-ordered the R5. Any idea why the camera won't shoot at resolutions less than 8k in RAW? (ie - 4k RAW) Also no 120p in HD for the R5? (vs the R6 does) I'm guessing they can [potentially] add all this later in firmware updates, as it can't be hardware limitations, right?

I think that the Canon R 6 makes a great B or C Cam in a multi camera shoot maybe even combined with the C 70. Bc of the lighter weight the R 6 would lend itself to be your over head camera which is directed down towards you. Whereas the C 200/500 will lend then-selves more for shooting a short movie, Music Video or the more and more popular production videos of certain popular Rock/Metal or Pop bands which was kind of started by Linkin Park with their Cinema style making of every album videos which kind of set the standard for everybody else.
Be nice to see a side by side comparison.....
I was all up for the R6 - then starred watching more and more reviews stating how it wasn't good at switching settings easily, especially from stills to video.
Can you confirm that the 10bit modes are h265 not h264 right?

I would easily buy an r6 for $3200 with the magnesium alloy body but I guess that’s canons thing. They find a way to box you into one or the other. I wanna by the r5 but as an event photographer I’m used to my 5d with the weather sealing and hard body but I don’t need 8k and other features. But I’m my experience with the Sony a7iii I’ve dropped the camera in a subway in Rome and have walked through the rain in a parking lot to get into the venue I worked at and it still worked fine so I’m expecting the same durability from canon.
Imma get the r6 probably, since I actually do need good low light performance than 8k, plus I don’t need to pay more and bit expensive cfexpress card

I'm a stills shooter for the last 30 years... and my Canon 5Dii still rocks with the right glass on the body!!!!

Do we really need bigger/better to this extent? Of course Canon wants to convince us purchasing yet another new camera with more processing power than the PC taking humanity to the moon in the 1960s... AND it cost as much as a second-hand car!!!! I admit that the "true silent mode" is very useful during weddings, nature shots etc, but is it worth the money for a semi-pro?
In the old days (pre-digital) photographers used what today is sneered at, a mechanical metal box with a piece of glass in front + 36 negatives and no "auto" anything what so ever... still they produced fantastic images that still stands the test of time.
OK, if I had a million on the bank I might buy one of these R5/R6 toys... but as long as I live in the real world I will keep to the great second-hand gear that flooding the markets.... most of this type of gear cover 98% of what us semi-pro and/or amateurs need. If I ever need an R5/R6 these for a job which I doubt... then I will not buy one, I just rent it for a day.
it's mostly about videos nowadays. they sell majority of cameras to youtubers and other social videos. stills only cameras are limited to a few people, that's why there was huge need for canon equivalent to sony a7iii which was the most popular/sold for a reason of its great video. also canon R was pretty limited with no stabilization, so there was a gap to finally release "do it all" camera without compromises for modern shooters where it's all in social media, so yes, there was a need for "better camera" and both R5/R6 fit the bill
what about dynamic range and high Iso performance of R5/R6?

May I ask where is the cable release port in the R5?
It has a flashsync port & 3pin intervalometer port.

Yes, 4K 60 no crop = 30 mins, 4K 60 cropped = 45 Minutes, 4K 30 no crop = 40 mins, FHD 120 = TBC (but none) Jake

It's absolutely ridiculous that canon haven't given is 120fps in 1080p in the R5

No All-i on the R6 is like a dealbreaker for me! They should've at least allowed it on 4K mode darnit 😰
The R5 has 4K recording limitations, No 4k Raw , mini HDMI port and overheats in hot weather. Not very professional. Other than that it’s a great camera.

looking for comparison with a7iii and R6. R5 is overkill. If I ever lay my hands on R6. max I would shoot is 1080p. not even need for 4k. waste of space and bandwidth especially when youtube data centres must consume vast amount of energy resources, plus unnecessary bandwidth as well.
You left A LOT of info out. You didn't mention overheating issues for R5 or the redundancy when recording.
I didn't mention the overheating of the R5 or the R6 in this as they both have restrictions. However I did mention overheating in the R5 video which is also on our channel.

The R6 would have been perfect video camera, 422 10bit with DualPixel 2 and IBIS. I would use the R6 in 1080p 422 10bit more than 4k, but no ALL-I is a dealbreaker. So many great features, so close Canon, so close.

Agreed. In fact, there should be an R6+ edition that has the same body as the R5, at the same price with just the 8k aspects missing.

Since it’s oversampling the HD and 4K modes from the 5K sensor, doesn’t that sort of replaces the compression of the IPB bitrate compared to ALL-I?
I’d also love all-i but i think IPB should do just fine otherwise they wouldn’t make it available in the first place.
I would look at the GH5 or g90. My Gh5 holds up against the R6 even now!
The difference is one is grossly overpriced compared to the competition with similar specs and the other is just overpriced.
Many of us DO NOT CARE about VIDEO!!!!!!
Our pimary audience and market is video, hence the focus on video over stills! Thanks for watching though :)
