  • In this video I test the EXPED synmat UL MW. I took it on the West Highland way and enjoyed them a lot.

NICE! Thank you for the excellent review. It appears that you have found a quality item that is rugged enough to endure the test of time. I think the "mattress" will be a good compromise for use at the higher elevations in our Philippine tropical environment. It is often hot and wickedly humid at sea level. A bit over 100 Klicks north in the mountains of Baguio, you can wake up to a light frost. We will check on availability.

They are great, I would suggest a higher R value for sub zero temperatures. But as an all round matras it is great. Hope you find some. Or just buy the new version. Thanks for your reaction! What is your favorite matras?

@@traveler5898 We currently use no-name-brand pads, which my Brother-in-law found at a local auction house where he purchases stock for his re-selling business. Supposing the translation on the original packaging is correct. In that case, the pads are simply high-density foam with a reflective layer on one side and covered by a protective type of stain-resistant fabric. We are not sure of the country of origin, but the lot came from Japan. There has been an influx of Japanese gear recently at these auctions. Some are manufactured in Japan and some in other countries. I have noticed that many products are apparently made to a higher standard than similar items imported directly to the Philippines from various other countries. My guess, the Japanese will not accept sub-standard products. Many auction house finds from Japan have worked out well at a bargain price. My sixty-eight-year-old bones desire a bit more comfort these days. That is why a family upgrade is in order.

Nice, I don't think we have an auction like that. But if it works then it's a good deal. I also switched from foamy pads to air matras because of comfort. I'm not the youngest anymore. Air-matras seems the best weight to comfort ratio. One disadvantage is air-matrases can leak. It's not as bombproof as foam. I hope you find what you're looking for. All the best from Amsterdam.
