This is so untrue I have a burner LE and I traveled to Dallas ft Worth and TSA went into my checked baggage and took it out. The Byrna company should be responsible for replacing my Byrna I took every precaution and put it in the case that it came in with the notice saying that it is TSA safe to travel and they still confiscated it.
Just for awareness - the FAA approves CO2 BUT THE TSA DOES NOT. The most restrictive rules are the only rules that matter. You cannot fly with CO2 in any size or shape rendering a Byrna useless. I like the weapon but saying that it’s FAA and TSA approved is kinda deceptive since it doesn’t matter you can’t use it at your destination
We have to jump through frickin hoops to get my child's life saving INSULIN through the airport.....I can't believe someone wasn't freaking out and screaming for TSA and ATF. I've asked my husband to let me buy one because carjackings here in New Orleans are beyond the pale and I always have 2 kids in the car. A coworker saw your billboard in Slidell, LA, and told me about the product. Can't wait to get it!
I traveled with my ByrnaSD in the OEM case in my checked bag, domestic, N. Calif to S. Calif and back with no problems. I took the CO2 cap off and with me in my carry on bag so TSA could see that the CO2 well was empty. I also had the Byrna "Ungun" flyer in the case, in case the agent wasn't familiar and shipped 5 cartridges to my destination, friend's house, ahead of time. I imagine that you could send CO2s to the hotel your staying at as well or possibly find a Byrna dealer or restaurant supply store that sells 8g soda cartridges like the Mr. Fizz Seltzer chargers. Lots of preplanning and still a chance you'll come up short though.
I found out about Byrna from Theresa Roemer(UA-camr) and I'm so glad she made a video about this. I'll definitely buy one because I love the idea that it's not a real gun but still powerful enough and effective to send the message to whoever wants to try mess with you.
That's what I wanna know, too. Can't bring pepper spray. Would like to have some form of protection when I'm in a foreign city (although most European cities are actually safer than the US!)
so it looks like the rules on co2 cartridges have changed and you can no longer fly with them. and due to the special shape and size of the byrna co2 cartridges.. you wont be able to find them in a store like you would a bb gun co2 cartridge.
I checked on this also , it is definitely not allowed in checked baggage. I read a comment where the person said that his gun was confiscated, perhaps he had an air cartridge loaded.

I contacted the TSA directly about this. Co2 cartridges are not allowed on domestic airplanes. They also recommend placing the airsoft gun in a hard locked case. If not the TSA agent may be call law enforcement without even opening the bag.
OMG! If you'd not videoed it, I'd not believed it! I can't even get through security with less than 100 ml of water in my carryon, 'cause TSA folks don't know their own rules/regulations! They also gave me a hard time about food in my bag (even tho permitted), and they confiscated a swiss army pocket knife, despite my begging and pleading (it was a gift!), and even though the blade on it was shorter than the blade of the scissors they did let through! In sum, I'm incredulous you were able to fly with your Byrna! Incredulous! Can you please try the same experiment flying out of BWI? I place mace and knives in checked luggage; it gets inspected, but so far, no problems....but something that looks like a handgun? Yikes!
The TSA ban on CO2 cartridges is a major obstacle. I travel for work a lot and coordinating shipping can compressed air every few weeks, just to throw it away or ship it back before I fly back home is a nuisance. Love the idea of Byrna, but current laws make them impractical for air travel
Of course TSA inspectors looked at it. You have something that looks like a gun in your baggage. Best not to put anything you want to keep private in the same bag. This goes for those of you with more unique and or revealing under garments.
All it takes is for a person that works airport security to use terrible discretion, because they are not educated on laws or they don’t know the difference between an actual gun and something non-lethal for you to be detained.
@@alfreddunn5325 I guess you can declare it ahead of time. Get something in writing that states you can put your pepper ball gun in luggage that would be stowed in the baggage compartment. (disassembled of course)

In the USA, different state have different rules. Such as in MN, Byrne falls under air-gun which in turns falls under BB gun laws (all air guns follow under the same law as BB-guns), which means you cannot carry an airgun to public places without a permit. What permit? The same carry-permit for a firearm gun. You don’t need to register or permit to own one, but you need a permit to carry one in MN.

Hmm, how do TSA know that the Byrna is not a real firearm to begin with? If I’ve never a byrna or know what a real gun supposed to look like outside of TV and movies (because I’ve never handled a real one), how am I (they) supposed to know the difference? Isn’t it possible they - out of ignorance - consider it a firearm and confiscate it because it looks like one? They may even be too afraid to inspect it more closely if they are anti-gun.
It's probably better to buy one with a high-visibility safety color to indicate it's a non-lethal device. If you purchase the black model, then it can be mistaken for a real gun. At the end of the video, he clearly says to check with your airline and airport on the check-in procedures before traveling. It's probably better to declare ahead of time at the check-in desk what you have in the bag to avoid issues. I have a compressed air gun or launcher ...

There is a difference between what's legal and what they (Law enforcement or TSA) believe is legal. Secondly, it depends on who is carrying it as well. Seems like a great product. I will do further research and will probably buy it.
Awesome. And great that YSA Baggers didn't STEAL YOUR BRYNA. Now, can you actually carry this on board with you? What's the Airline Regulation on that? Thanks in advance.

As far as any regulations I know of being these are not considered handgun firearms there is no regulations per carry or concealed carry. I have done a bit of research to fact check even states or areas this is not allowed and or where there is any regulations against such.. there are none I have come across. There may be a regulation on purchase, shipping and or use of certain chemical use rounds.. but that depends on the state. Most allow such or allow such with passing and getting certified to have and use such, (like California). One thing to note however.. open carry still requires some etiquettes and courtesies to respect the situation as not to provoke situations intentionally. That should be common sense, right?.
Based on TSA's website under the category of "compressed air guns," the answer is NO. The most important thing to understand is airport terminology. What is the difference between carry-on baggage versus checked-in baggage. The average person confuses the two.
