- Hey guys, in this video I show you how to change your whole house Kinetico prefilter with as little mess as possible. I have changed literally thousands of these filters and this is the best method I have found to change these filters. I will be uploading more Kinetico-related videos so subscribe so you do not miss them.

Thank you for making a direct "how-to" video. You're the guy!
thank you so much for posting these videos! I am doing maintenance on my water softener and filters by myself since I can't afford the technician to come out and these videos have been amazing!
Your videos are outstanding and I can't thank you enough for posting them.
I would agree.
😂 every time I’ve changed I’ve come to this video. I forget every time! I live alone, just filter hardly dirty I’ll check later.
After having to use huge force (including a rubber mallet and heat gun) to get the filter housing off, I now use food grade silicone on the top and top side edge of the housing to help ensure easy removal. It makes a big difference.
Where can I purchase this filter? Is there a part number?
Do you have any tips if the sytsem won't depressurize? I've changed the filter several times and this time it won't depressurize and the prefilter container won't drain. Any idea?
Outstanding brother, works well 😊
Thanks for making this video...
It was Perfection!
Thanks for making this video.
Excellent video thanks for sharing!!
Perfect video. Thx
Thank you for your guidance - the best video lesson I could find. A quick question - where can I buy disposable filters compatible with Kinetico system?
Thank you so much for the explanation please where can I get the disposable filter?
Great video. Will the disposable filter fit any Kinetico system? If so, where can I get them?
Where do you order the disposal filters from thanks?
No kidding
Same. Two year old system that I cannot find replacements for that filter.
I use Iron Out on my reusable filter and it gets it back to brand new white. Same filter for 5 years now.
When I googled Iron out it says this "WARNING: May be fatal if swallowed. Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through skin." I don't think you want this in your drinking water!!
Please, what is the name of the part? We have the same system but cannot find the part number on the filter.
Thanks for the awesome video. You didn’t show where to put the silicone on?
How often we should change this filter. It's there anything that that needs to checked or changed?
I also have a separate drinking water filter after this main water treatment system.
Are these proprietary filters? Please post a link for generic style
Thanks for the video. Is the packet of silicone supposed to be applied somewhere? Thanks.
I have the wrench and it fits right..I can't get that damn thing to twist off for the life of me to change the filter 😭😭
I had the same issue as last time the water company tightened too much I think, so I decided to use a hammer with the wrench hoping it won't break, and I was able to remove the old filter
Hi Kasey thanks for these video's they are very helpfull. I had a question on the disposible filters do you have a location that sells these or is the Kinetico dealer the best and only place to find these filters.
Can you tell me the size of this cartridge and where to buy it besides the dealer? Tha ks
Hi, Great videos. Is there supposed to be a o-ring in the groove where the filter element screws on? thanks keep up the good work.
I was wondering same thing. Mine doesn’t have one. But like in the video has like a hard plastic built in ring on the sump.
After closer inspection I do have a o-ring but when there's grease on there it can be really hard to see unless you look close with a flash light.
where can I find/buy this same type of filter?
Thanks for posting. Looks like u also have a chlorine reduction tank?
Yup a CRS1100
Should sediment prefilter go before or after CRS 1100? I added a CRS recently after softener install last year. My flow is city chloramine water to CRS then sediment filter then to softener. Can I expect a reduced life expectancy to my CRS by having the sediment prefilter come after CRS and before the softener?
Hi Kasey, How do you lower the softener setting on Q850 quad with 2 year old head unit with blue softener setting cap? It is currently set to M and I would like to move it one or two settings lower.
Like many comments, it seems difficult to find the famous disposable filter model. I have two filters and I clean them with hat. Usually a kinetico filter lasts two three years easily taking into account the rotation with another filter.
Where do you find these filters?
Kinetico sells them.
I don’t have that blue water line on my one can help me find or size of that line I can get from Home Depot
Is it normal that when I do this , I don't have soft water. I have a new unit and every time I do it I end up without soft water
I'm realize this video is over a year old, but I've just been charged with looking after my nephew's widow's Kinetico system. For the life of me I can not find a part number for the pre-filter replacement cartridges. I simple can't find anything on line the "looks" correct. The one in her system looks identical to the one you installed in this video. Thanks
If you call up your local Kinetico dealer and ask for a "10 inch 20 micron Mach Prefilter" they should know exactly what you are looking for.
My valve is in bypass mode but the water won’t stop. It’s continually a full stream with no end in sight. Any thoughts why this would be?
Me too. Did you figure out what to do?
@@SuperSinger63 nope. I had to shut off the water main and then change the kinetico filter. I’ll have to schedule an appt eventually for them to come look at the softener
I’m having the same issue. Did you ever find out why?
@@TheGoswitzTeamRealtors the reseller came out for a routine service check and it turns out it was a faulty bypass valve. They replaced it for free with the service charge
Whats part number for the disposable fiter
Hi can you give me a link to buy filter
Mine is stuck. You twisting the casing clockwise or counterclockwise when you say toward the wall?
Just like removing a light bulb from an overhead fixture.
I can't get my filter cartridge loose. I don't want to break anything. Would you recommend using a heat gun to warm the cartridge head so it expands a bit?
Mine is stuck as well, did you end up getting it off?
@@jakerussell7720 I used a Harbor Freight heat gun I've had for years on low heat setting. I applied heat around the perimeter at the top as evenly as possible, then tapped in the same area with a rubber mallet, and did this process for about 15 minutes, and it finally came loose. Before reinstalling, I applied generous amounts of silicone grease to the o-ring to help prevent this sticking situation in the future.
Water doesn’t stop coming out of the valve even in bypass mode…what do i do?
I am very tempted to buy a Kinetico whole house system for my house which is fed by my well. I have a decent sulfur smell emanating from my Artesian well at times, but by and large my water is clean and consumable for drinking. That said, my local Kinetico dealer wants close to double the cost of the next best system from another manufacturer. I think it is in part because I live in an affluent part of town. I'd like to get a whole home system (to eliminate sulfur smell for bathing and brushing teeth in the bathrooms), and with the highly filtered drinking water system in the kitchen.
Trouble is, if my local dealer refuses to reduce their price, how do I know I am getting a fair price if they are the only dealer of Kinetico in the area?
For that matter, is Kinetico that much better than competing whole home filtration systems like Springwell, Aquqafina Rhino, Pentair Pelican, etc.?
Ask about re-furbished models. That's what we installed. Yes, a little more expensive but I can tell you that it was well worth it for us! Just the savings from using less salt, it will pay for itself in 5-7 years.
01:36 what if it doesnt stop? mine just keeps draining & keeps draining & wont stop :(
I hope it stopped now 😂
What if the system is set up so the wrench can't go around the filter housing? How can you remove it then?
Look into oil filter wrenches the bigger oil filter wrenches will work
I use a strap wrench on mine.
I turned to yellow and red, water never stopped flowing. What does that mean?
Your mach bypass could be shot. You can just use a different valve in line to shut off all water to the house.
I have turned to the yellow bypass but the water never stops. Any suggestions?
Same here
@@nickpoppa999 same here
Just turn it to red
Same thing happens to me
Why a 20 micon filter ? Use 5 make ur system work less
A water softener doesn't filter the water. The pre-filter is just that, a filter before the softener to keep any particulate out of the small orifices in the softener head. In certain instances it is beneficial to use a 5-micron filter but not in my case.
Where do you purchased the pre filter?
aquarius kinetico
That's a company that intsall in my area that sells the filter
