Best educational video. Gonna attempt this tomorrow . Thanks a bunch
Thanks buddy! I truly appreciate that.
This video is a life saver. I just picked up an 08 Si from my mother in law who purchased it brand new back in the day. Only maintenence its had is oil changes and a clutch. Bone stock and neglected.
God bless man! I adjusted my valves about 5k miles ago and still noticed a small ticking noise , especially when it was cold. On a whim I walked into honda and just started ordering parts. Luckily ordered everything you did and now I can confidentially replace them tomorrow!
Thanks 🙏!
thanks for the tips man your video helped out a lot, glad to see someone else in the 8th gen community making videos.
Dude, that duct tape trick saved me. Thanks!
Hey I just finished the job, it went great! I removed the new tensioner pulley BEFORE installing the bracket. I crazy glued the nut to the inside of the bracket, it kept it in place while installing everything. I still kept one finger back there just in case, but it never broke loose on me. Thanks again!
If you are still experiencing a noise I can almost guarantee that its the crank pulley you didnt replace, you pointed at it at 4:10 pretty much everyone first replaces their tensioner, idler pulleys and belt then realizes it didnt really solve the problem. The crank pulley is actually called a harmonic balancer because it reduces the vibration and noise from the crankshaft it usually dry rots after all the years.
Thks for the swivel tip... u expert grade bro!
Thanks Terry! Smash that subscribe button 😅. Road to 1000!!!
excellent tutorial. Probably need to do this for my CSX soon.
Same make and model and problem here, I'm about to do it. I agree, watched a few others, you brought up issues I'd have had to figure out on the fly. Thank you!
Thanks again Gerb for the SI tech support
Thanks so much man, just marked my car this morning to this weird belt noise, gonna do this and hopefully fix it
Great work my friend. This helped me a lot with my FN2 Civic Type R.
Thanks!
Really appreciate the video, makes everything very clear and thanks for the tip I'll be doing the same pulleys, that sound clip you instead is exactly the same as my 07 as well. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words buddy!! Consider subscribing! I'm going to do a quarter mile time on my car and a video on how to easily repair faded plastic trim!
Great vid - I love to work on my cars, but only video's like yours make it possible. Thanks for that.
Question though - could you have just changed the tensioner pulley without doing the entire tensioner?
Yes I believe you can!
Thanks bro. Your video was helpful and well explained. 👍
Much help man thanks
Thank you great video 💯💪
Is it just the hex nut for the idler puller or with a washer too?
Good video well detailed
hi! I enjoyed your clear explanations and visuals.
I have two Qs:
1.
What 14mm tool did you use to remove tensioner pulley, and ?
I have a 14mm 12pt combination wrench and 14mm 6pt socket. I don't want to round bolt but socket is hard to fit b/c of ac lines.
2.
which direction did you turn to remove tensioner pulley bolt?
Towards you like how belt tension is released or away from you towards windshield?
Advice is appreciated.
Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I used a pivot extension that angles me away from the AC line. Also I did use the 12 point socket but was just very careful. Maybe hit the bolt with some wd40 or PB blaster to help you out.
For the second question you are turning the bolt towards the windshield.
Hope this helps! Thanks.
Hi, great video! I changed the tensioner pulley on my Civic FN2 yesterday and lost the nut which sits in the back of the tensioner in the engine bay. After one hour if searching I still couldn't find it. Did you find yours somewhere?
Best regards from Austria
Tip. Next time you need to hold a bolt or nut in a socket just tear off a small piece of paper and put it on the end of the bolt or nut then shove it into the socket. No more need to tape the bolt and socket together anymore.
I've used paper but been using a blade of grass for ages - since it's most easily avail. when working outside in the yard
Is it normal for the tensioner pulley to become over torqued wile removing or replacing the serpentine belt?
Whenver I set the tension to 41 ft lbs, I have to disturb that torque value buy pulling the tensioner toward the front of the vehicle.
I assume the solution is simple; anytime the tensioner is pulled forward (for the belts positioning) the pully most be rechecked for proper torque.
...am I rigg??
What size bolt is middle bolt of the idle tensioner I lost mine lol
Big help! Do you mind where you bought these OEM parts?
Straight from Honda!
Def helped
👍
I just replaced my idler & tensioner pulley. not the whole tensioner and it’s still making noise
Did you find the problem?
@@rhs865 yes bro it was my ac compressor pulley
Did the sound go away bro? im having the same one gets louder as you rev the car
Yup! Sound is gone now
What exhaust do you have on that si? Sounds deep.
How long did that take?
Do you necessarily need to replace the tensioner if the pulley was just bad?
I mean nobody had a gun to my head just figured it would be a good idea.
@@Enthusiast416 I was just asking
@@yerrrrrr I didn't mean it like that man I was just joking around. Just figured while I was in there I'd do it just incase that was making the noise I was trying to get rid of.
hey where do you get these genuine honda parts?
From Honda!
@@Enthusiast416 ok bro online or at a store?
@@Dweeno I went to my local dealer.
@@Enthusiast416 thank you
My fg2 steering wheel got really stiff all of a sudden and pulley/belt makes noise. Do i have to replace the same parts you did?
To be honest man I'm really not sure. Don't want to give you bad advice!
@@Enthusiast416 the noise went away after a few dags
Was the tensioner you used Honda OEM or Gates?
OEM Honda. At the beginning I show the part with the box and the part number.
Can be just Tensioner pulley replaced or need whole assembly?
Not to sure about that. I don't think you can buy just the pulley.
@@Enthusiast416 I did change just polley but noice still was there so I change whole assembly and it better but sounds like ultirnator still make little noise buy it's much better now
dude, prop your bonnet up the other side and get that prop out the way!
