EJ was one of my Fav lakers after the Magic era. KOBE played with EJ in Philly at Temple pickup games, they knew each other before the Lakers, Kobe was EJ Lil Brother - it would have been nice to See them both a 1 -2 punch for the Lakers but what got Eddie shipped out of LA to Hornets was he Chocked in the Playoff in 96' 97' & 98' The regulars he season he was a beast, but didn't show up in playoff, and LA was on the cusp of getting to the Finals but had to go through Utah Jazz that met Bulls in Final 97' & 98' even in Miami when wade came I'm sure Shaq had Eddie shipped out because of LA days
Eddie Jones was a great player but the analysis that he got "overshadowed" by Kobe Bryant or that he was similar to Kobe Bryant I disagree with. He left for a team of his own in 99 and 2000 (Charlotte then Miami). Eddie Jones started out fast, good (not great) shooter, very good defender, quick, athletic. He didn't have the handle or ability to create his own shot like Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Allen Iverson (when he transitioned from pg to sg) or other super shooting guards of the era (even Allan Houston when Houston was healthy with the knicks even though he was known as a shooter). He had a respectable career but going into 98 it was expected that he'd be a top 20 league player, 6 or 7 time all star but that just didn't happen. Even though from 97-2000 he was a very impressive shooting guard, he didn't have the killer instinct of the 3 other shooting guards I mentioned and as a result, he just kind of became a respectable starting shooting guard instead of a perennial all star.
So he underachieved a little, but not a lot. He didn't have a near-Jordanesque ceiling like Kobe, but it actually wasn't his choice to go from LA to Charlotte. The Lakers traded him & Elden Campbell midseason for Glen Rice & JR Reid, right when the team began to play its best ball of the yr. It was a stupid trade, everything went downhill for the Lake Show after that till they hired Phil Jackson in the offseason, and rest was history. I thought of him as the new era's Michael Cooper when he burst onto the season for purple & gold. I think that Shaq & Kobe would've had a few yrs. longer championship window post-Phil w/o that trade, or they may have even won it in 99 for how well they started to play, and wouldn't have needed Phil. Or at least not till later if they couldn't keep it up w/ Kurt Rambis.
@@Vanexelfan3137 Damn... can you imagine? Nick the quick, EJ, Kobe, and Shaq... Kobe said it a bunch of times that he would have played really well with TMAC. Eddie is just not 6'9 like TMAC was. LIke Del Harris, how do you mess that up. 4 All-Stars and Elden Campbell was no slouch. Much better than Travis Knight or Kwame Brown
@@hotran4394 I agree with everything except for Jones at SF. He basically showed he could in Miami with Dwayne Wade. They made the conference finals and that was Eddie on the way down. Could you imagine Prime Kobe with Prime Eddie? It would have been ridunkulous. But much props to everything else you said. Especially about Campbell. Dude had low key serious game.
Him and Kobe was suppose to stay together. I believe his biggest stunt was lack of organizational trust. Imagine him Kobe and Shaq being coached by Phil. They wouldve ran the league.
True,,the triangle was based on back picks and cuts and passing, Eddie Jones was a decent passer throughout his career and a good shooter a great slasher which the triangle offense would have been a easy transition for eddie Jones to trive in and it would have masked his only weakness which was his 1on1 ballhandles under pressure. Which was kobe's strength especially away from a passing offensive set. Kobes athleticism, iso skills alone kinda made Eddie Jones look like a Blackberry phone .but Eddie Jones still blended well with kobe
I'm Jamaica and I grew up watching Eddie Jones, he got mad skills, shoots well, can create his own shot, good one n one player and can defend. Even though I love the bulls I always like him. He wasn't A hyped up player but he had game.
One of the coldest point guards of the 90s and fun to watch with his clutch shooting and deceptive passing he didn't get enough credit for because he was breaking so many ankles along with his antics and his attitude overshadowed his greatness .
I remember Eddie from a graduation party at my aunties house when he and my cousin had graduated from Ely High in Pompano FL. I didn't know he even played ball at the time. Cool dude then Cool dude now.
Cool🏀Blanch Ely, Dillard and BA were 6A State Championship🏆 dynasties on the hardwood during the 90s and early late 00s. He always had game including that backcourt run with timmy hardaway and the heat🔥. Those games at the old arena when Ewing and the Knicks came to town were fantastic memories. Anthony Mason, Charles Oakley, John Starks, X-Man McDaniels, Larry Johnson played tough ball and hearing those names at the Arena was legendary.
Eddie is one of my favorite players from the 90s, but I never considered him the next Jordan because of his quiet demeanor. He came into the league at age 23, which was older than other stars from the 94 draft like J Kidd, Grant Hill, and Glenn Robinson. Plus he was never the best player when he was with the Lakers. In in his first 2 years, Cedric Ceballos was the best player and some would say Nick Van Exel was second. Yes, he would have won more if he had stayed in Charlotte because that team was pretty stacked with guys like Anthony Mason, Elden Campbell, Derrick Coleman, David Wesley, Bobby Phills (RIP) and a young Baron Davis. When he went to Miami he was playing with an aging Tim Hardaway and an oft injured Alonzo Mourning. All in all, Eddie had a solid career.
I remember Eddie. Great player for sure. I don’t know if he ever would have become Jordan-esque under different circumstances but he was a solid player. Rotten luck for him to miss out on 2 titles by a year. He was traded for James Posey, Jason Williams right? A shame, I think he would have been a better contributor than Posey to that 06 Heat team.
Did Eddie Jones have enough of a killer mentality? Salute Wale for the Follow! 💯💪🏾

He was so dope.......he just didn't have that next next level hunger
As a Lifetime Laker fan, this was definitely something that I needed to see. #Salute
Eddie was my guy, I hated Kobe for years after the Lakers traded him
Same.
Same
I was just about to comment this I swear 🤣
Me too!!!
Same
EJ was one of my Fav lakers after the Magic era.
I loved watching him play with Nick Van Axle , Cedric Ceballos. The most games we ever attended. It was so much fun watching them play.
He got traded for Glen Rice
@@andyraphael exactly...he got traded and was told that he wouldn’t be traded when he asked.
Eddie Jones was also very fortunate to have Top 75 teammates in Kobe, Shaq, Wade, Gasol, and let’s not forget even Magic in the 96 season.
If Phil Jackson came in before they got rid off Van Excel and Eddie Jones.
Things would have been different.
Good point
I couldn’t agree more.
@@hotran4394
I agree with everything except for Jones at SF.
It's like a butterfly effect say if they kept all 4 kobe wouldn't have the same exact career and developed like he did
You made me feel 9yrs old again Eddie Jones was my boy I would copy his moves at school ✊🏾
Him and Kobe was suppose to stay together. I believe his biggest stunt was lack of organizational trust. Imagine him Kobe and Shaq being coached by Phil. They wouldve ran the league.
@Leo theChibowow they both wouldve been starting. Interchangeable from the 1 to the 3
@Leo theChibowow kobe and eddie in the triangle. Wit Shaq in the paint. Man.
@Leo theChibowow that def wouldve been a discussion.
@@carlwallace1129 agreed but Jones was probably more athletic than Kobe.
Eddie Jones one of my favorite players alltime
Surprised u didn’t show his layup where he took off from the 3
More like free throw line but it was dope. Forgot that just like the JR Rider side shot
Eddie Jones had a huge ceiling. Kobe started to creep up on him in less minutes played tho but he was solid asf
I’m a die hard lakers fan since birth hella respect for this vid I had his shoes and met him in Palm Springs ca
I found out about Eddie Jones on NBA Street. He was a beast!
Eddie jones is a nba player i look up to..when everybody likes iverson jordan malone kobe reggie miller ...me eddie jones..
Classy Player for sure. Eddie Jones.
I'm Jamaica and I grew up watching Eddie Jones, he got mad skills, shoots well, can create his own shot, good one n one player and can defend. Even though I love the bulls I always like him. He wasn't A hyped up player but he had game.
Peeped Nick Van Exel in the video, Bro was cold. People in my generation don't know who he is
One of the coldest point guards of the 90s and fun to watch with his clutch shooting and deceptive passing he didn't get enough credit for because he was breaking so many ankles along with his antics and his attitude overshadowed his greatness .
Loved Eddie on the Heat, with Zo and Tim Hardaway. That Heat squad was awesome.
They barely played together. That team was awesome on paper but critically injured.
@@MrPriest24 injuries occurred for them and yet they had a 50 win season. Just imagine that team at full strength.
Eddie Jones was dope...
This guy was one of my favorite players in the 90s and on that lakers squad if u did do a video nick van axel was a baller too, great video
Eddie Jones was a damn good player Kobe was one of the all-time greatest players
@@biglawllc1551 Yeah I remember that old arena. A lot of memories I have for that part of town in Miami.
Eddie Jones was a Beast
I remember Eddie. Great player for sure. I don’t know if he ever would have become Jordan-esque under different circumstances but he was a solid player. Rotten luck for him to miss out on 2 titles by a year.
He was traded for James Posey, Jason Williams right? A shame, I think he would have been a better contributor than Posey to that 06 Heat team.
